MyTouch 3G 1.2??? - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

http://www.tmonews.com/?s=mytouch+1.2&x=8&y=14
It looks like the 32A revision is not limited to Fender, but rather its going to be a hardware refresh for all new MyTouch 3Gs!

Yeah but who is still going to buy Magic when the newer phones with faster CPUs are out? Milestone, Nexus One, etc...

people who dont want to pay 530$ or people who dont want the individual plan that your forced into getting if you want a N1 subsidized?

i think this is bs that tmobile did this... what about the early mt3g adopters.. there going to leave us in the dark... because there planing on updating the mt3g 1.2 to 2.1, but what about the original mt3g?? yes im rooted and it shouldnt matter.. but i got two more mt3g non rooted that will probly never see 2.1... and that really sucks!!

Why would people be angry? I understand if you bought the original mytouch... but by now most of those that have one and use it for music either got the usb adapter or bluetooth headphones. I just got the fender mytouch with the 3.5mm jack and I still use my bluetooth headphones because they cost me $90 lol.
I was also swaying towards the nexus 1 till I found ll the hoops you gota hop thorugh in order to get one.
GEtting mad this is like getting mad the laptop model made a year after yours has an extra USb port.

the main attraction of the new MT3G and fender MT3G is the huge increase in RAM because it uses a 32A board and not the crippled 32B.

Well, this actually makes me happy, because it gives more hope for a 2.1 update for 32A owners

yes.
but why can't we have the lovely 35mm little hole with a update? i hate HTC

why not just buy a new one, and sell your old one on, oh, lets say....ebay or something??

I can confirm its real not only by internets ies.. but I opened my Fender Mytouch case today and found a pamphlet for the "New mytouch" the picture inside is of a white mytouch specficly showing the 3.5mm jack as an addition. Also boasting the new double twist sync which ive yet to try.
Go intoa real tmobile store and they will have them near the demos to see for yourself.

I'm sorry, but does anyone else think the MT3G sucks?

I have had this phone for over 3 months now. Would not and have not recommended this phone to any of my friends. In fact I don't know anyone else in person who even has this phone.
The more i use this thing the more I realize what a piece of garbage it is. I don't know about you but I'm sick of paying to be T-Mobile's guinne pig.
Maybe if the MT had the RAM of the magic it would work... But no in T-Mobile's infinte wizdom they chose a phone with less RAM. Brilliant!
I've bought a magic 32b too,less ram,but a good rom does the trick.
Maybe you should buy an iphone?
I bought a htc magic 32A in Norway it is just getting better and better with the rooms that are available here on xda and alldroid.org. And Program Begin to be good.
I think if you get some good romĀ“s on your phone you change opinion
Try some of these http://www.alldroid.org/viewforum.php?f=130
Why did you buy a 32b and why did you post this here?
You can buy a fansy spansy nokia

I have to agree however after rooting, flashing cyanogen and the 10mb hack my MT3G is pretty fast. However normal customers shouldn't have to go though all that. I definetly wouldn't recommend the MT3G to anyone except tech savy friends who want a cheap android phone.
You can have my HTC Magic when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

Why didn't you get a hero or wait for the moto droid?

this comment is actually rather pretty spastic. First off, why does the MT3G suck? Lets first clear up a few things, you aren't a Tmo guinnea pig but an HTC guinnea pig if you look at production of the phone.
having cleared that up, i had my MT3G stock before falling in the world of rooting and loved it then and love it even more now that its rooted. With this type of hatred toward a phone i feel a few things should be looked at.
1) Did you get teh phone for xmas ROOTED it and realized you can't take it back now that its rooted?
2) Do you actually know WTF you are doing in the root process
3) Have you bricked your phone and are now pissed off?
something isn't right. i could care less about knowing someone personally with a MT3G. I didn't know anyone personally that had a motorola cliq but that didn't keep me from getting one for my wife for xmas. I didn't know anyone that personally had a bmw 7 series, but that didn't stop me from making that purchase either. seriously, grow up and quit this nonsense.
--------
Why would you buy a MT3G and not a G1?
They have the same RAM, both pretty much the same except one of them actually has a keyboard and the other is a bit smaller and has less bulk.
It's pretty pointless, unlike the 32A, why didn't you get a Hero?
Did you even check the G1 vs MyTouch specs?

Sounds like OP was cornered in a Starbucks by an iFanboy gang, couldn't hold his own.
How is this development related? Please...
As said, this is clearly the wrong section and the OP doesn't back up his argument (although, why you got a MT3G over a G1 is beyond me). And no offense to the1gladiator, but he did say he's had this phone for 3 months.
Only real difference in specs (other than the keyboard) is that the MT3G has A LOT more memory for apps and roms and such. I started out with the G1 a year ago, but moved on to the MyTouch mostly for the extra memory--that, and it looks better. I know that sounds dumb, but I like a phone I can show off. =)

Same with me. Bought it because of the more mem and less bulk. Didn't use the g1's keyboard after 1.6 went live anyway.

It's your phone, if you hate it, get rid of it, man. Problem solved. However, I gotta say, I've had iPhones, Blackberrys, what have you, and this is my favorite phone, eva! I love the Android platform and the My Touch itself. I'm not even with Tmo, so I gotta suck it up on AT&T's EDGE, but I still wouldn't give it up for twice what I paid for it. There's not even Tmo service in my area, so I am pretty much the only one I've seen with one, but, personally, I love it that way. I'm no longer one of the iPhone clone crowd! To each their own, though. If you don't like yours, root it, unlock it, and 'bay it.

I couldnt have said it any better myself.
Tmobile is just being cheap there. Less memory so less cost for them. Switch to AT&T or something then get a Rogers Magic from eBay. Then again only if you are a 3G user.

Help me decide what (android) phone to get!

So, I'm looking to get a new phone soon. I'm budgeted for $500$850 in mid-May for it, tho I'd be willing to wait as long as August or September if something really awesome is coming out.
I'm on T-mobile, so need a GSM phone that works on T-Mo, with T-Mo's 3g.
I'm hooked on Android, so whatever phone it is has to run Android (tho if I have to flash Android onto it, I'm cool with that, so long as there's a fully working ROM available!).
I've got a G1 now, and really like it, but I'd like a bigger/higher res screen (min 3.5 inches&800x400ish res), and a faster phone, so, faster CPU&more RAM. (I've got my g1 running cyanogen with the 10MB hack, and it's pretty decent, but I've got upgrade fever and want BETTER *grin*.)
I love the hardware keyboard, but have been using swype since they opened it to beta and could see myself living without a hardware keyboard. (Tho I'd rather not, as I've had phones with hardware qwerty keyboards since 2005 or so!)
I also want a good camera. The camera in the g1 is alright. I'd like a better one, but one about the same would be ok.
oh, and it definitely needs to used microsdhc. I'd prefer if the memory card slot was pretty accessible, as it is on the g1, but I can live with it being under the battery or somewhere stupid like that.
So, what phones should I be checking out?
I've only ever had 1 smart phone: HTC Desire. Can't fault it. I note you like the hard keyboard, but the Desire's soft keyboard is very good.
The Desire defintely meets most of my specs. On wikipedia it says 32Gb microsd. Did it come with a 32GB memory card, or is wiki just listing the max supported?
thats its max. it came with a 4gb, but i'd check that when you buy it. Mine was HTC branded (unlocked). The card was already in the phone, so when i was in the shop i thought it didn't come with one.
Good to know, thanks. I'll be buying it online if I get it, since I'm in the states, but I'll be sure to read the listing to see what size card it's got!
Do you have it rooted? I see it's been rooted but /system can't be accessed. Well, still, odds are that'll be done well before I'm looking to buy!
No i don't. At this stage I'm not too bothered, but almost certainly will mess with that soon.
Look at the Nexus One & it's resume' over at it's forum section
Nexus one is certainly a possibility, but after the 3g issues, I'm sorta hesitant.
I think that the Nexus 1 or the HTC Desire are the best android devices that are released. I would suggest the Xperia X10 but it's firmware is outdated and lacks multitouch and is super laggy regardless of the snapdragon processor. So, for now, and if you need 1 now, then get the Nexus 1 or the Desire.

What 3G issues? I & most N1 owners have none & are locked on 3G all the time. The only issues are T-Mobile's coverage & towers!
I meant the 3g issues it had when released. Doesn't make sense, I suppose, but it gave me a bad initial impression of the phone, which has persisted. And I can't even go by the T-mobile store and play with the phone to dispell my bad impression, cos it can only be bought online.
An Android phone for you?
Htc Desire or Htc Legend....I would prefer the legend for a lady..my girlfriend's got it ...I tried them both...they are fantastic, I have Hero so! we are very HAPPY...you are in the right way..Android is the future.
Which Android to get??
Htc Desire of course 100% you going to be fine!!
Legend doesn't meet my desired specs at all. 600mhz processor, 320x480 screen, EW! Desire looks spiffy, but from reading the specs, I don't think it'll work on T-mobile US, will it?
I'm leaning toward the nexus one. Roomie is getting the AT&T version, and I'm going to get to play with it while rooting&romming it for her, so that'll give me a chance to decide if the nexus one will work for me or not.
On the super nice side, I've got about $350 worth of unexpected overtime coming up (someone going out of town on short notice) so my budget changes, and I can afford to spend about $850 now! If I go with the nexus one, I'll probably get it from colorware.

All-Are there any especially awesome phones set to come out in the next few months? I just don't want to buy the nexus one and then 6 weeks from now see the 'Nexus one with a physical keyboard!' released.
you should go with the HD 2. I just read that there is a ROM so it can run 2.1 with sense. but look it up in case I read wrong or something. I'm sure you would double check anyway
Yeah, I'm in the same boat, kinda thinking about ditching tmo and going for the evo4g

The thought crossed my mind, but I'm on a family plan and switching companies would cost me too much.

HTC Incredible, EVO 4G or Nexus One ?

I am currently with tmobile and ordered a Nexus One without a contract... So now I got to thinking: I like the Incredible and EVO 4G...but is it worth getting a whole new contract on Verizon (1 Or 2 Years) or Sprint (2 Years only) ? I am kind of stressed out about this -it is a headache for me, I just want to get something I will be happy with...
I had the HD2 and returned it (not enough suitable games for the hardware...so I decided to move to android)....
So I think my two most reasonible options are to:
+ Stay with Tmobile and keep my Nexus One until something else comes along compatible with TMobile USA... (I am paying about 140.00 a month w/ 3 lines unlim texting for all...and unlim data for two lines... plus 1000 minutes, and free mobile to mobile)
+OR Sign up with a 1 Year verizon contract...
(now mind you, I will be paying @ least 90 to 109$ a month for an individual plan and keep the other two phones on tmobile until their contract expires...will be about 90 a month for Tmobile after this). So all in all costs = about 190 a month to get the incredible...
I know the pros and cons of the phones pretty much:
EVO 4G:
+ 4g, 4.3" LCD screen, front facing camera (nice but I dont think I may use it much), hdmi out, better multitouch hardware than N1
Incredible:
+ OLED 3.7" screen (same as N1?),8GB onboard + 2GB micro w/ verizon, optical 'track ball' ,also better multitouch hardware than N1
N1:
+ trackball ?(a neg for me actually), nothing else above the others that I can see....
sorry if this is a stupid thread...just asking for your advices/ideas/thoughts...please help me make a decision....Thanks for your time...
any ideas?
Stay with the Nexus & no contract...I think your going to really like it's performance! If not, then you can try the others not on GSM...
Well my .02 for what it is worth would be keep the N1, the Incredible while seemingly better is a slight upgrade from the N1 imo... I heard the onboard 8GB of memory cannot be used to install applications on, and one review (Engadget) said a lot of things couldn't even see the memory... The Nexus One is a great phone, and I just got mine for AT&T; give it a go first!
But the incredible doesn't seem too hot for me, I hear VZW is going to LTE and what-not soon! However the Evo 4G does look really cool, but it is on Sprint. It seems like keeping the N1 is economically feasible and you won't be disappointed, or at least I haven't!

Thanks for BOTH of your responses...
I do like the N1...nice sleek and small...just makes me think when I hear about the EVO 4G and the Incredible having the better multi touch...
also that 8GB would be nice to have instead of just 4GB with the n1, also VZW will be giving a 2GB memory stick with it so that is 10GB of usable storage (somewhat usable)...
I guess the N1 is a better choice since I also still have the option to upgrade my phone at any time, hopefully Tmobile will come out with some better phones than the HD2 some time soon -I am sure there will always be better phones, but its just a matter of if they will support the TMobile USA bands...otherwise I may have to switch companies...
I also like the Optical trackball...I think it would have a longer life than the actual trackball...but on the EVO I do not like the LCD screen, the AMOLED screen is much nicer...
The N1 is also the first device to receive an official upgrade to Froyo (and let me guess also future versions). For the others you have to rely on HTC.

I don't see why the HTC Desire would get LESS support than N1. The N1 has just been around a bit longer so you probably find more support but I guess this soon changes. In the end both are HTC devices and will receive equal support, probably Desire with even more support thanks to Sense UI included....

Its OK, my bad, i meant out of the devices that were listed, Xda seems to be a GSM device forum (?), i expect the desire, legend and many other GSM phones to be supported here, by default i thought that you go to the PPC website for CDMA (Please, correct me if i'm wrong, i'm in the UK so we only have GSM here )

Please recommend a phone to me...

I have had the iphone 2g for a while now and would like to get a new phone... I am on USA Tmobile and would like a touch screen phone which has 3G capabilities (with Tmobile USA)...
I have tried the HD2, but I returned it because of its lack of quality games (especially with that nice Hardware you might think it has some games to work with it, but no -sadly).... I also tried the Nexus One, but I cannot seem to justify it is worth almost $600 especially when the Multitouch is not as good as my old beat up iPhone 2G (the N1 gets confused when you have two fingers on the same axis)....
so now I was thinking about getting a G1, but I cannot find one for under $100 in decent condition... I would like an android phone, or a WM phone capable of a nice android port.... I am not looking to spend too much because it will be a used phone (most likely) and I will probably get another phone next year (hopefully there will be some decent phones which live up to my expectations AND would be compatible with Tmobile USA...
I was thinking of getting a G1 with a cracked screen (but still working fine other than that) for around 60$....do any of you think that is worth it?...I see new screens for $35, and I know the whole LCD is not bad if it still works then it must just be the digitizer so maybe I can get that cheaper....I am pretty sure I can repair it myself, but then again it might be fine enough with the crack since I will change phones anyways....
Any suggestions or recommendations / advice ?
Thanks in advance....
I would say either the Nexus or the Incredible.
The nexus is going to be having a update that makes it run 450% faster (No thats not a typo)
But the incredible is also very very nice. Its really up to you.
EDIT: Do not buy that g1. =)

Uhhh the Incredible is out for the US. (Ive played with one, And i live in Hawaii.)
The nexus one is still fairly new and when Android 2.2 comes out it's probably gonna out perform any HTC phone hands down.
I have a g1 and I love it and i highly suggest. It has never let me down. But it does feel a bit outdated.

see the incredible is not available for GSM networks... so that is where it fails for me because I do not want to switch companies right now at least
now as for the nexus one -it is a hardware problem I am referring to...it has a synaptic multitouch sensor which limits it permanently (no software update will solve this)...therefore I am just waiting for a new iteration of one of those or something new all together (even wm 7 may do...we will see though)
Now so I guess that leaves me with options like the tilt(s), g1, mytouch (I prefer really not to get this though), or the touch pro 2 (overpriced)...
any ideas ? I guess the g1 is the way to go for me ... I may get one with a broken screen, change the screen and the housing and even get a new trackball...it would be clean and would also not be more than about 120 or so....which doesn't seem too bad considering it would be in like new condition (hopefully)....

Captivate or the HTC Desire?

Rogers said they are getting the captivate soon, and Telus announced that they are releasing the Desire tomorrow ($449 no contract)
Im debating on which i should get. I've wanted the HTC desire for ages, but i heard the captivate has a better processor?
Any ideas?
yeah captivate wins out on hardware wise, but desire already has good development going on if i'm not mistaken. Dev's are still working on the ins and outs of the galaxy s series.
If you're willing to learn a bit about android and change some settings, i recommend the captivate by far.
If you want a good out of the box experience i think the desire may be better for you?

Captivate
Pros
-Bigger, better SAMOLED screen. Better multitouch sensors = better multitouch experience.
-Arguably the fastest SOC (CPU + GPU combo) available on the market right now
-16gb on board storage, supports up to a 32gb storage card.
-Swype keyboard pre-installed
-Thinner, sleek form factor
Cons
-No camera flash
-Samsung TouchWiz vs HTC sense (subjective)
-No indicator LEDs
You can't go wrong either way, but with the exception of the camera flash, the Galaxy S/Captivate has superior hardware.
I sold my Nexus One to buy the Captivate and you couldn't pay me to go back. Sure the N1/Desire has better dev support but with CM and Froyo coming to the Galaxy series there isn't a huge need. Not to mention the fact that the Galaxy is going to sell FAR more units than the N1/Desire so the devs will come. The media support of the Captivate alone is worth the switch and the true multi-touch display is a godsend coming from the buggy N1 screen. I do miss the notification trackball on the N1 more than I thought. Let me know if you have any specific questions, I've owned both.
I posted this same topic on teh Desire board, and someone said that the cpu's are similar, but the gpu in the captivate is much better, which is pretty obvious in that quake 3 demo video that's been floating around alot.
But i dont really plan on playing any games.. i mean if i had the captivate, id definatly ahave an intence game on it just to show off to my friends, but i dont plan on sitting there playing a game.
Also, camera flash isnt a big con really, but its nice to have. The LED indicator on the other hand is a must have ever since i had my bb curve 8310. I got an htc magic now and i miss that blinking red light like crazy. I know the captivate has some app to use a random pixel buthaving teh real deal is always better imo.
custom interface (touchwiz vs htc sense) isnt a big deal sincei can probably just put a desire rom on the captivate and vice versa..
I dont know. I guess ill wait for the pricing from Rogers for the captivate. IF its something stupid (which it probably will be) then ill get the Desire.
Also, if i get the desire, ill ahve to worry about unlocking it, which i know nothing about..
Rogers will launch the Captivate at pretty much the same price as the Desire and Vibrant.

The camera on the Captivate takes some fantastic night shots without flash. Flash also has limited range. Its better to brighten up an entire image rather just focusing a spotlight (LED) on a certain area of the photograph.
so i guess its stupid for me to get teh desire? it's just simply out dated now?
The Captivate and Desire may seem similar on paper but processor speed being equal does not make the processors equal. Is an AMD processor running at 2ghz the same as an Intel processor running at 2ghz? The answer is no.
The Captivate processor is the same processor in the iPhone 4 with a better (but same type) GPU. This is why the other post stated that the Captivate has the best SOC (system-on-a-chip) currently being sold.
The Captivate is not without it's bugs but those will get worked out. I have always been the type to look for potential and not just out-of-the-box. Once we get Froyo on this device it is going to be incredibly "Captivating." LOL (yes, I know that was corny)
I'm having serious doubts about my Captivate. I have yet to hear anything from Samsung about when or IF they will fix the GPS issues. I never realized how much I relied on GPS and just took it for granted when I'm looking for shortcuts cutting through the city, etc. But this phone can't ever find me. And when you are driving down a road at 50 mph and need to decide where to turn next, you need a phone that can find you within seconds, not through up a blue area that you MIGHT be in.
I'm reading this topic over on HowardForums and i get the feeling like the Captivate is the better phone..

I already have major call dropping issues with my HTC magic and it's driving me nuts. I dont want a phone with problems
I just checked at a Telus store, if you are planning on buying the Desire to unlock and use on Rogers the price becomes $599. The $449 price is only the buy out price for using on an existing Telus plan.
I'll be waiting for Rogers to release the Captivate I guess...

That's BS. Goto BB or FS and buy it outright. I swear some cellphone dealers are worse than used car salesmen, either by choice or ignorance.
