UK Keyboard now WM6.5.5 friendly - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I've tweaked the qwerty keyboard a little bit so I don't have to hunt for the £ and € sign and \ on secondary pages. In landscape the arrow buttons have been moved to the left-hand side, which centres the letter keys better which think is easier for 2 thumb typing; the side-effect is that xT9 doesn't work correctly.

I've added the cab file below. It should uninstall correctly but it will need a soft reset afterwards.
21/01/2010 - New cab with some fixes to the layout, mainly affecting the xT9 toggle in portrait and landscape.
14/02/2010 - I've added an additional cab that works with WM6.5.5, it's almost identical to the other version but the button placement is correct.

Oooh, that's quite good. Must come in fairly useful. Now if someone could add ".co.uk" to the long press of the ".com" button, it would be perfect!

I've poked and prodded but the TLDs are not stored in the layout files, I think they are in the binary , I've not given up looking though!

I can see what you've done with the £ sign (nice!). But I cannot see any change to the location of the € and \ signs on the screenshots provided. Or have I misunderstood what you meant...?

I can't take a screen shot of it, but holding down the "f" key pops up "£ € $", likewise with the "/" key I've added "\".
The only problem I've got with the landscape keyboard is xT9 doesn't work properly as the keys are offset, that said I find in landscape xT9 isn't useful; in portrait I find it a necessity.

I dont suppose you know if its possible to disable or remove the xt9 button do you? It bugs me as I'm constantly catching it without noticing owing to its stupid placement and I find it pretty pointless - I always have t9 on and it automatically switches off in password input sections anyway

Could you do it for me? it would have been better I think if HTC had made that button smaller and had it as a toggle to pop up the up/down/left/right keys instead of them being constantly on show as they aren't used very often. I don't know about you but i actually haven't had a single need to turn xt9 off since I got the phone and I really can't understand why they put the button there in the first place.

Yeah, I'll do it this evening. I don't use xT9 all the time, it can be a bit awkward when you are trying to enter names and such or website logins etc, and I have no use for it in landscape (doesn't work properly now anyway).
I could make the toggle box much smaller, so it's harder to hit accidentally, which I think is a better idea. Do you want it shrinking in both portrait and landscape?

Could you do that? Maybe a tiny box right to the far left. The more fiddly to activate the better! I really never use the keyboard in landscape as I find it harder owing to the greater travel needed for the fingers.

Thanks for the offer but I had a go before I saw your message. If you could test it though, that would be great.
It's the same keyboard layout from the screenshots in my first post, and as mentioned xT9 is won't work properly in landscape (portrait is unaffected). I've been able to uninstall the cab (soft reset required) and go back to the defaults without any problems; but if anything goes wrong don't sue me!

I actually like landscape as my previous phone was a Touch Pro; I find I can be fairly quick typing with two thumbs.

Smoother screen rotation

how can i make the screen rotation smoother (by gsensor)when using opera, photo, my gsensor seems doesn't work well, i want it do the rotation once i make the movement, but it doesn't. like i need to shake it after the turn. sound stupid....
also, any application like the samsung i908 one? the animation rotation.
Thank you
kickmys - there is a program called "Gyrator 2" not too sure if that's the correct spelling, but yeah, there's that program, which not only makes it alot nicer to the eye, but also makes landscape and the g-sensor work together in every screen. ie you can have the portrait homescreen in landscape if you just turn the phone as with everything else.
oh wow i had no idea gyrator 2 lets TF3D work in landscape as well. damn i cant wait for the fuze. i already downloaded so much software in preparation

no no no. You misread. That is a hardcoded issue. TF3D is made to work in portrait. IT WILL NOT WORK IN LANDSCAPE. Only the shortcuts will. So it will not allow you to access tf3d in landscape. That is a manila issue, not software.

Um, I'm sorry. Do you know what you're talking about? And which youtube video are you referring to?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecvGg8qgq5o&feature=related
or
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2cju8y39CY
and even if you're talking about any of the above, when you switch to landscape in manilla it brings up the following screen:
{

So again it does not show TF3D IN LANDSCAPE like lbhocky19 thought and I hope that is what you meant. Because I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about since TF3D was hardcoded to be portrait only and
when in landscape. So again. If you have proof, I'm willing to believe you.
Is that when you open the keyboard that would be the screen that is displayed is it not?
If you leave the phone in portrait mode, turn on the Gyrator 2 program and then turn the phone 90 degrees clockwise or anti-clockwise it should just turn the screen to the landscape mode and not have the quick links buttons or whatever they're called.
I'm not arguing just trying to get my thoughts through the fingers and onto the keyboard.

Hey sadams39, let's learn together. I am from NSW, and just last week got my hands on a 3 Mobile build of this brilliant phone. I jumped from Vodafone (with a Nokia N70) to this work of art on Optus, simply because Voda have totally ignored the Hunter Region and Newcastle for installation of HSDPA/EDGE. And, just in case you ask, Yes! the model you buy from 3 Mobile is capable of going on Telstra's Next-G; the Raph automatically sets itself up depending on what provider SIM card you put in.
First things first, get rid of the 3 Mobile ROM once you get it. I threw on the original HTC ROM the day after I got my hands on my Raph (links below to stuff you need) and it works beautifully. Only pain in the ass I'll say about the blokes on this site, though - when they post stuff it seems they forget there's an awful amount of no0bs reading the forums, and they subsequently let verbosity go out the window on a few occasions.
Ok, links to get you started.
1st, here's where you'll find the programs that update the phone to a state where you can update the 'firmware' (ROM). You have to do this first, or a ROM update won't work (they call it 'bricking' the phone)
HardSPL - Raphael Unlock thread
2nd, go here to find the original HTC ROM - as well as other people's designs:
Raphael ROM Developers thread
Success is assured if you follow the instructions posted by these guys to the letter - they've been mucking around with these things a lot longer than us, so they honestly do know what they're talking about. Search this Raphael thread thoroughly, be nice to others (and be helpful, if you find out something that you think may be worthwhile sharing) and you will find gold!

I apologize for coming off so rudely. I do that sometimes. Well it does, but it will still have the quick link buttons because that is manila's landscape. I mean it doesn't change the program's display. Just the orientation. So it would have the same effect as when the keyboard is slid out. Just to clarify. It would work in any program except for touchflo3d since it doesn't work in landscape. It will only show the quick links. That is because the program just access it's landscape orientation. Not fit it to screen.

Can someone PLEASE make a GOOD KEYBOARD!

I have tried just about all the on screen keyboards and they all fail in one are.
EASE of typing! Can someone make a keyboard that leavev out most of the side and bottom keys. Just make it qwerty with ABC key and NOTHING else!
If we need to use numbers make it when pressing and holding a key will switch to numbers and other needed keys. Make the space bar for space and double tap to make a piriod. Is that really that hard to make?
I know for me it is but for you guys out here that so so much in these forums, is it that hard?
I will GLADLY pay if anyone makes such a keyboard.
I'm about to get rid of the hd2 because its a paing to type.
The iphone's keyboard is what I somewhat want it to be.
Big keys with the alphabet only.
Any suggestions??

Yes. Try reading the numerous threads about typing issues and try all the suggestions. If you cannot type after doing everything that has been suggested in this forum then either one of the following...
You have a defective device and need to return it. It will never get better.
You need to practice typing more.
I have used many different types of input methods, with various phones, and I find the HD2 to be one of the best (I don't think there is a clear winner).
Just stick with it (and use the pads of your thumbs, not the tips).
as the above said
as the poster above said.
also try (pay) touchpal 4.0 i use it on all my winmo devices and it is very good
I had a TP2 and got me a HD2.
What a bloody pain in the you know what
But its what John says.
Learn to control the beast
It toke me some time to work the keys to.
But in the end it all worked out oke.
You simply have to get used to it.
So dont give up

Hi guys, well i somehow have to agree partially to what the TS has to say.
It is not really THAT bad, but I am really keen to see someone edit the layout of the keyboard. The main problem for me is the 4 arrow keys at the bottom of the screen. I tend to always hit that when I am actually trying to tap on my spacebar, and the consequence is bad, because by hitting the arrow key, T9 actually thinks that I want an alternative word.
So in conclusion, if anyone could just remove the 4 arrow keys at the bottom row, HD2 will be COMPLETE!
on top of that, without the 4 arrow keys, a lot more can be seen on the screen!
also can any1 here share their experience if they ever use the 4 arrow keys?
Thanks!

it's not true. hd2 has got a very poor keyboard ... just a nice way to say that it sucks.
his hd2 is like all the other one: it sports a bugged keyboard.
main problem, when pushin a button it types other buttons sorrounding. it was one of the reason I wanna get rid of my hd2. but I discoverd swype..so my suggestion: use SWYPE. simply the best keyboard ever maden for touchscreen
Its not about getting use to the keyboard. Its about making a keyboard that will use the SIZE of the screen!
Just picture a BIG KEYS keyboard with only the alphabet A-Z. Than just 1or2 small keys that by pressing once, press hold will pop out the numbers, the bottom arrow keys to scroll through words.... and whatever else.
THAT would be a killer keyboard, and when switched to landscape with that setup the keyboard would rule.
So, its not about having to get use to junky keybords, its baout making a real practical one. The more we ask devs to develope/make one the faster one will probably make one.
I would pay some good cash for such a keyboard. I'm sue others will too!

The majority of people can type with no issues, as a poll a while back proved. Most of the people that did have problems could solve them with tweaks to lower sensitivity.
If you read my original post I only suggested that if none of the other things worked then he had a defective device, which is what it turned out to be for an unfortunate but small number of people.
Get FingerKeyboard AND the following layout by nir36 - it has much larger keys compared to the standard Fingerkeyboard layout and takes advantage of the HD2's larger screen space with bigger keys.
Just got it two days ago and it's much better than the standard HTC keyboard. If you need arrow / d-pad keys, I modded nir36's digits layout to include them.

Swype has literally changed my texting life. LOL. I used to be lucky to get out 20 words a minute, and now I'm like a freakin' court stenographer, all with one thumb. It's brilliant!
to the Htc programmer who decided that the T9 toggle switch should be put right under the letter A and next to the letter Z. Your days are numbered.
Swype's best for me, quick on the go, don't have to bee too accurate, learns as you go along and there are some nice skin's floating about for it +++
Swype is a great novelty, but hopeless for passwords, numbers etc etc.
The standard keyboard, with XT9 on and a screen desensitizer = orsm sauce.
I've tried nearly every keyboard (even FB2) and keep coming back and perserveering with the standard one.
I came from a JasJam then an i780, so it's been a learning curve for me with a software keyboard. XT9 helps me heaps.

Swype Tips & Tricks - WOW Swype is complex!

No wonder I didn't like it. I wasn't using half of its functionality! There's a TON of hidden stuff.
http://www.swypeinc.com/tips-tricks.html
Check out the Swype Help and the Video Tips & Tricks.
I was also completely ignoring the Sym key!
A small excerpt:
Editing
It is often faster to ignore the Word Choice window and just keep entering text, checking the text after you have entered a paragraph or so.
If you spot an incorrect word, edit it by double-tapping the word. The Word Choice window will display, allowing you to select the intended word, which will automatically replace the highlighted word. The intended word will usually be the first word in the list, in which case you can touch anywhere in the window and glide up through the top of the window to correct the word. In addition, the text cursor will automatically return to where it was before you double-tapped the word, so that you can keep going with entering text where you were before you paused to review the last paragraph.
If you don't find the word you want anywhere in the Word Choice window, simply Swype the word again and the new word entered will replace the incorrect word (in this case, the text cursor will be left at the end of the word you enter, in case you wish to do further editing there).
Instead of double-tapping a word to correct it, you can also tap your finger once anywhere within the word, and then press the Swype key .
Once you tap the Swype key, the word containing (or next to) the cursor is highlighted and a Word Choice window appears that shows the alternate word choices from when the word was entered. You can select the intended word, or begin Swyping a new entry to replace the word.
Note that Swype only keeps this information (the list of alternate word choices associated with a word) for a few hundred words. If you attempt to edit a word that was entered prior to this history, or for which no other possible words were identified, Swype may simply "beep" to inform you that no alternate word choices are available, and no Word Choice window will be displayed.
To edit more than a few words, consider using the Editing keyboard.

I was also using it wrong; looking at each word after I swyped to see if it was correct. I'm going to test it out more by just going full-bore and only checking after paragraphs.
Any full-time Swype users out there?
I used it for about a month or so as my only kb and found it was a lot easier if you didn't think about it, but I didn't know about that functionality either. I have been using smart keyboard pro for about a month or so now and type just a little slower than I did with swype but with better accuracy on smaller words.
I may give it another go again after reading this information. Thank you.
Great info as always paul, thanks much didn't know about it either lol

Double tap works in landscape but in portrait I have to use swype key.
Are you using the beta version on these forums? I've got a feeling it might be out of date and that's a feature missing from the portrait keyboard in our version.
I can't remember which version I'm using lol. When I first got my Nexus I had to go through quite a few versions which didn't work and lost track of which ones I tried.
Re: WOW Swype is complex!
I cant be without swype now. The videos are very useful, I didn't take they added more, I'll have to check the new ones out. A big change for me was when I realized you could swype over things like ' and it knew what you needed making a word like hadn't much quicker. Also tyre swyping over the necessary keys for a smiley face it knows! Or swype z to space for an exclamation. Very fast way to type, I couldn't be without it.
The punctuation stuff use to bother me a lot in an earlier beta, but being able to swype to the spacebar is awesome.

Is anyone using a newer version?
I'm in the beta, but haven't received any emails at all since I first signed up. I wonder if you have to manually go and get your updates, or there just haven't BEEN any updates period?

Hah! Yet another easter egg. I was wondering last night why double tap never worked! Just tested, and yep, looks like landscape only, unless they changed it in a newer beta version.
If you go into the Swype options (Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> Swype), you can see your version number at the bottom. Here's my version:

Wow, thanks for the videos. There's one I didn't see when I did the tutorial on the phone. I remember accidentally bringing up the "sym" layer and couldn't for the life of me figure out how I did it
I checked my version number and it's the same version as you. I was wondering about updates too, I'm also in the beta and atrackdog tells me theres newer versions available.
That was a great find with all in one page, it even worked watching from my Nexus. I never knew half the stuff it could do till now. Thanks for shring this info. Everthing worked perfect i'm using 1.25.5612.t100 Black and white themed!
Love the keyboard in portrait mode. Hate the keyboard in landscape mode. Though I never really use landscape to type things.
I'd recommend anyone who uses the keyboard to read through the help file included with the keyboard. I really really love this keyboard because I tend to use multi syllabic words, and it's incredibly faster than typing out with t9 or reg keyboard.
The only thing I wish I could configure is the "in between words" time. I usually have to intentionally stop swiping when doing two words that end and start with letters close together, otherwise it will interpret them as one word. (ex: time and react)
Plus it has a tab key. =P
edit:
Just foudn out about Hopping: All over my face, so awesome
I use it full time and I love it!!! Much faster than a regular HTC keyboard!
I honestly don't know how people don't use it. It's so easy and in my mind much quicker. Working for T-Mo I give demos of it at least 5-6 times a day and people are blown away. Especially the heavy texters who won't leave their hardware keyboard...
"Wanna Race?"
I love swype, specially the ability to type numbers by long-pressing, no need to shift modes, and long-pressing the Q to change language.
However the thing that annoys me the most is when my preferred word for something gets hidden by another one that I used only ONCE and I can't seem to restore it, no matter how many times I type it or click on the swype key...

One of the neat tricks I found out last night. Double tap a word so it's highlighted. Then press the Sym key and it will either add your word, or delete it.

First of all I would like to thank the users below for letting me to use their work
BT73 for his OP "Making Your Action screen like me",
lyriquidperfection for his great Touch tools for HTC apllication,
Marcdu81 for his very useful HD2connections cab and
Dinik for his great HD2 Iconset
makeveral for letting me integrate his very useful ram sweeper in my cab.
In "EndKey replacement" I used their work or some of their work, edited some things and I came up with this app as a result.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this app is to replace the EndKey function with a more useful and with more options one.
INSTALLING
Just install the cab and reset.
EDITING
You can change the functions of the buttons by editing the keys that reside in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen] with a registry editor.
1. Open HKLM\Software\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen\APP_0-11. Each number corresponds to a button
2. Change "Path" to point to your desired app.
3. Edit "Param" if you want to pass parameters to the app.
For more editing, like background and buttons please see BT73's OP
UPDATE
Now when you press a button you also have an icon showing up. Thanks to k8sh's idea
UPDATE 2
I replaced the camera button with Enter bootloader. Preview below.
UPDATE 3
I made the buttons to get pressed like k8sh suggested. see preview 3
UPDATE 4
Background changed to black.
Different key press, now the button gets smaller when you press it. (see preview 4)
Changed rotation.exe and now only changes clockwise and if you press again back to portrait.
UPDATE 4
I replaced some exe's that handled the connections with JMLcomm. Now it's smaller in size and flight mode and DATA on/off should work for everyone.
New GTX style
UPDATE 5
RAM Sweeper is now integrated to cab and replaces the rotation button
PREVIEW
GTX Style thanks to colossus_r
Looks good, will have to try this out.
Thanks!
This is so awesome. Thank you for sharing! And thanks to BT73, lyquidperfection, and Marcdu81 for making this simple but extremely useful add-on possible.
Very nice,good job !
I hate to bug you but nothing happened. I tried installing in SC and device but nothing happened. Should I be doing anything else? This should pop up when I perform a short press on the end key, right (the red hard button)?

You have to install it to the device and it pops up when you long press the end key.
please try it and give some some feedback because I see you have the TMOUS HD2 version and there might be some differences.

Got it. I was doing a short press only before. Long press definitely works as it should.
I also noticed that the window only pops up for a few seconds. Any reg tweak to make it longer or stay since the app can be exited by pressing any of the hard buttons?
Also when you press a button (icon), you can't really tell that you are pressing it right?
I forgot to add that data disconnect does not work for me. Is this the same issue as Marcdu81's HD2 Connexions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6074894&postcount=101
All in all I like it and I will be using it. If I follow BT73's steps I can substitute a few buttons with ease?
good job man
Thanks

1. For the window popping out for a few seconds I haven't seen any reg entries that could change that. Although I'll try to find if there's anything we can do.
2. For the buttons not showing what you press I did it on purpose because I didn't like the result when I putted some icons. The bmp format (used by the app) looses all the transparency from the icons I use. I have something in mind and when its ready I'll post an updated cab here.
3. No it's not this problem as launching DataOnOff.exe from the action screen does not involve any shortcuts. The only shortcut to the program is written in registry and it's correct there. DataOnOff.exe can take several parameters (try running it from \windows\actionscreen folder without any parameters to see a list of available options) I use "-gprstoggle" which should toggle on and off but it doesn't work correctly to my phone either. It's only disconnecting the GPRS and not connecting it. (that's not a problem for me though as I only want it to disconnect).
Thanks for your feedback and your thoughts.
I edited my post and added that the data on/off is actually just Data OFF. It does not work for data ON. This is the same for Touch X Data Disconnect (hence, the name). Does Marcdu's work as Data On/Off or is it one-way only?

I just realized that it is also not an issue for me since if I don't have wifi, gprs will be activated automatically by whatever app that accesses it, if off.
I have an idea for the icon when pressed, the icon must already have the background as that of the action screen because of the transparency then perhaps changed it to grayscale or whatever is best for an icon when pressed. (See attached figure).
However, a plain dark background must be used like the one you are using now.

Hey thanks for the acknowledgment! I installed the v2 and there are a few kinks, the pressed icons are a bit misplaced relative to the original colored icons. I took screen shots of all the icons (zip file) so maybe you can play around with the x y positions when you have time?

It's supposed to be missplaced so you can see them when you press them.
If you want I will try to make them seem larger when you press them.

Here is another suggestion. You can crop the pressed icon so that there is a little more on top (screen shot) and you can align the icon with a slight offset in the vertical direction (so it looks like it is moved downwards only when pressed, covering the icon label entirely). I attached another screen shot of what it will look like when pressed if my description does not make sense.
It's only a suggestion. You always have the option to ignore me.

Actually, I don't even know what the boot loader is for. Maybe if I do, I will choose that one since Scilor came out with this new tweak where you can use the volume key to take photos and it works for me. But it may or may not work in some phones so you probably should not include it even if you want to (and it is only version 0.1).

[App] Thumb Keyboard v1.5.1

Note (nov 30, 2010): By now there are two versions: a lite version, published here (free) and a full version (paid) on the market. The full version will be continuously updated with new features, layouts, styles and more. The lite version will get no more updates.
(feb. 16, 2011) New thread for the full (paid-for) version created here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948179 . Please post your requests, questions, comments etc in that thread. Thanks
------ initial announcement ----------
New thumb keyboard for easy thumb typing. The idea is simple. I've split the keyboard in two halfs, took them apart and placed them above each other (see screenshots). Result: much wider keys...

Somehow the brains does the remapping remarkably well. Left/right to up/down doesn't seem a problem. The result is that the keys can be defined with a greater width and that for thumb typing the phone can be hold in much more natural way.
Press-and-hold the keyboard icon for switching between layouts, settings and selecting another input method:
I'm very curious what other users think about this concept... Also I'm very interested in getting feedback on the usability of this concept.

Little FAQ
Q: I don't see the keyboard after installing it
A: The procedure of selecting the keyboard is described in the screen you see right after you have installed the keyboard. It's described in the section "Selecting the Keyboard". You can consult this info at any given time by tapping on the Thumb Keyboard app in your app drawer.
Basically the procedure is as follows: go to the Android keyboard settings menu by selecting "Settings" or "Preferences" in your app drawer and then "Keyboard ...". In this menu check "Thumb Keyboard". Now, when you want to edit something and your normal keyboard pops up, long tap in the edit field and select "Thumb Keyboard" from the "Input Method" menu.
Q: How can I switch to another layout or set up my preferences for the keyboard
A: Also described in the info screen under the header "Setting up the Keyboard". Anyway... long press on the keyboard icon in the left corner at the bottom of the keyboard to access the settings menu and to switch layouts.
Q: I can't download the file that is attached to this post.
If you try to download it from your Android phone keep in mind that not all browsers support downloading apk files directly. You can either try another browser, use a download helper or download it from your pc/mac
Q: Will this keyboard help me to find answers to some urgent existential questions?
A: No. But you can always read a good philosophy book and make notes with this keyboard.
Q: Huh?
A: kidding

Like the concept. It is almost like my left and right thumb knew which keyboard to use. Maybe you can try changing one of the space keys for special characters or hard press on letters for special characters. I like the idea although I have to trade it for screen real-estate. Not bad, indeed a lot of work need to be done but I'm definitly keeping my eyes on the this. Thank you.
I'm an idoit I just notice the special character key is next the "g".

thanks for your feedback. I've changed the layout a bit (concept remains the same). After some testing and some feedback from others I decided to place the spacebar, backspace key etc on the default location.. The result is much better.
this new version looks better!
i will try it very soon but is very unlikely for it to replace swype or swiftkey.
still, as soon as i try it i can give you some more feedback (will be about portuguese writing, i'm afraid)
Im testing this keyboard right now.
I just found a few bugs.
1. When starting writing caps lock is on and doesnt go off after the first letter.
2. Every time i use backspace it erases two lettrrs instead of one.
3. It may be me but im missing so much more lettrrs.
i believe most of my writting is done with one hand.
edit:
i gave up writing in my nexus. its too hard for me
i'm sorry and i hope you dont get mad at me but i'm not very confident in this keyboard. at least i tried it. hope you understand. stil... good luck

Don't get me wrong. I write this stuff because I need it myself and I share it because, you know, maybe others can use it too. So how can I be mad... I myself like and use this keyboard very much.
As for the bugs you reported. Yes, I can reproduce them and fix them asap.
BTW what makes this keyboard hard to use for you, the bugs or the layout
What does it look like in landscape orientation?
Edit fixed backspace bug. Shift key functionality is under review and reconstruction.
my biggest problem with the keyboard is that i'm missing too many letters. its like i was trying to say. i dont know why but i believe i dont miss as many with other keyboards, or they correct me, i dont know :\
the keyboard layout seamed like a really good idea but first i noticed i'm not using that much the two hands to write in my everyday writing. neither swiftkey, neither swype need two hands so i guess that may be my second problem. i dont get extra speed for using two hands with either of these two keyboards i'm used to.
Also, i believe you're taking too much of useful space for the keyboard. 2/3 of the screen is too much i think. maybe a solution with less used space? Another thing: at first i did understand the idea: get bigger and better letters. but now you have reduced the size of them again and they are just in a different position than the regular keyboards. why dont you try a little bigger than atm? you can remove the arrows and redistribute the numbers in the left overs. i will try to make a draw of my idea.
the two small bugs i reported are less of it
why dont you try to implement Dvorak keyboard. That keyboard was designed to increase the speed writing and the letters position was carefully selected. Also, it already has many languages configuration already selected so it would be only needed to change this configuration for each language.

You noticed that you don't thumb type, it that case I understand all of your points. I designed the keyboard for use with two hands. The keys are wider (maybe as wide as in portrait mode and the height is, I think enough. So yes there is a big difference: look at the first row (qwert) and the 4th (yuiop) and picture them as 1 row, then you see what I mean.
Nevertheless, thanks for your comments. I'll see if I can use it.
Dvorak is a great keyboard layout btw, but a solution to a different problem.
i understood in the process that in order to help you, or in order to try to help you i need to use both thumbs. i'm doing it now.
its indeed easy to see that your keyboard is wider than default by looking at the qwert-yuiop.
i still believe the arrows arent needed. we have a finger to select where we want the cursor or a trackball... so... its just space used in my opinion.
i also believe that the shift isnt at the best spot. why do you require shift at such a great position? It isnt used that much.
the "?" should be near the "enter key". maybe instead of the backspace? i would place backspace in the "3" area, in top the the "op". maybe a little bigger than the others?
isnt the "t" too fair away from the left thumb?

Yep, very valid thoughts Like this feedback. I have to say that some of your points crossed my mind when designing the keyboard.
Some points I want to address:
First, I think the shift key and backspace key are on the wright position because one expect those keys there while typing. I did some tests with some fluent thumbtypers with a previous version in which I moved the backspace to another position and they all, without exception were a bit disoriented. I think the same will be the case with the shift key.
Concerning the postion keys: I don't think they are a waste of space, but I really like more feedback on this. To go to a exact position by touching the location is not that easy is my experience. (For example: misspelling the word imagene and then going back to the e is much easier by pressing 3 times the left key than to select that position with a finger)
Thanks for your feedback.
EDIT: your point about the "t" being too far from the edge is a very good point. But then again it's better than in the landscape scenario.
Pure genius ! I am surprised no one has thought of this before. Just a questions

(Press-and-hold the keyboard icon for settings and fast selecting another keyboard)
here you have the option to turn it off but actually the keys keep making the sound =P
@appelflap
have you noticed you have 5-4-3 letters in the top left and 5-5-4 letters in the right bottom? what if you removed one line and got that "shift-z-x-c" in the same line as "y-u-i-o-p"? to extra "help", you could change the color of the keys. This way it would be a suggestion of which thumb (left or right) to be used.
i keep my idea: the arrows arent that great =P by removing those you could try this, i believe.
I love the idea but I really don't understand the point of it in it's current configuration. The keys seem to be the exact same size to me except they've been moved around. I mean, the keyboard isn't THAT small to begin with so unless the new configuration makes them bigger the only thing that seems to be accomplish is making my hold my thumbs in staggered positions... I don't see the benefit in that. (Maybe because I'm on an evo with a larger screen and therefore with a larger keyboard to begin with?)
I'm not going to refund since I want to see where this goes but I don't think it'll be my every-day keyboard for now. Good job though!

So you like the concept but you don't like the way it is implemented in the current configuration. That is something you must elaborate on, because it looks you have a interesting, implicit (not tacit) intuition.

The keys are much wider. Just take the "qwert" of the first row and the "yuiop" of the fourth and picture them together in one row. The reason you think they aren't that much bigger is maybe because in comparisson to regular keyboard the height is smaller. The result is square keys with a simular height and width.
(I had to reduce the height because of the fact that I had to introduce more rows)
With regular keyboards I concluded that much of my typing errors were caused by hitting adjacent keys on a same row. That's what this layout is supposed to prevent and in my opinion it does a good job in that. The reducing of the height has no influence on the amount of errors I make. (I always thought that the extra height on regular keyboards was mere a suggestive thing)
In the end, what I'm trying to accomplish (and this is the most ambitious part), is to make blind thumb typing possible. I think with this layout that must be possible, only thing I have to introduce for this is a way to give thumbs some feedback so they can return to a fixed, initial position from where they can start of.. (like with a normal keyboard with markers on the "j" and "f")
I'm not going to refund since I want to see where this goes but I don't think it'll be my every-day keyboard for now. Good job though!

I hope you didn't feel obliged to donate. But thanks, also for your feedback. And please let me know if you have any suggestions, request etc. I hope with the comments and "thumb on" experience of users I can make this keyboard better.

****, you're right! In theory it worked remarkably well Expect a little bug fix real soon.
@appelflap
have you noticed you have 5-4-3 letters in the top left and 5-5-4 letters in the right bottom? what if you removed one line and got that "shift-z-x-c" in the same line as "y-u-i-o-p"? to extra "help", you could change the color of the keys. This way it would be a suggestion of which thumb (left or right) to be used.

I guess that everyone has his own preference in this respect. My plan is to make the non-qwerty characters configurable. (But maybe I sacrifice those keys when moving the upper keyblock one row down)

Pure genius ! I am surprised no one has thought of this before. Just a questions
Is there a way to turn off the clicking noises ? My phone is on silent and I don't see anything wrong in the Sounds menu but yet the noises are there

tapping-and-holding the keyboard icon will bring you to a setting menu in which you can not turn off the sounds (Kidding, It's a bug, but there you should have the possibility to turn off the sound)
