I think my factory ROM (XPERIA) added SMS/MMS to Outlook via an Arcsoft piece of software. I'm not sure though. I'm now using a lighter ROM which doesn't have MMS abilities at all, so I need to add them. I've been looking online for a while and have found a bunch of seemingly bloated applications.
My question is, does anyone know what I was using before (standard on HTCs?) and how to add that to this ROM? And how to configure it to use UK O2 MMS settings.
Or is there something better which I could be using?
Thanks
Solved. Kinda

This adds the functionality. Settings are another matter, but I'm sure it can't be too hard to put a .reg file together.

Ok, I've searched around, so sorry if this has been covered before, what exactly does 6.1 give us over 6?
The only stuff on the internets i have found is relating to Smartphone version not the bigboy Windows Mobile Pro version.
And you cant search for things less than 4chars on here (and most forums, very annoying)
cheers
For enterprise a lot!
You will be able to manage all your WM6 for System Center Mobile Device Manager...
Threaded SMS. Hopefully one that works with MMS without any of the issues of the ripped Palm Threaded one.

What's wrong with PocketCM?
I haven't played with any of the newer versions of pocketCM so I might not be the best to speak to it but from my limited and dated experience.
PocketCM is an add-on viewer of the SMS messages in your regular SMS inbox; it just reads them and groups them together. So you have to always launch PocketCM to read SMS threaded (versus reading it straight in messaging or pocketCM having its own SMS database like Palm). This is an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others.
PocketCM isn't just a threaded SMS client; it's really designed to be a replacement for contacts and such within WM. As such it's a larger program than just an SMS threader. If you don't want to use pocketCM for anything other than threaded SMS it's unnecessarily large and bloated for just that purpose.
Some people don't like the PocketCM interface (myself included on the old version I tried). Palm threaded is much nicer. Hopefully the WM6.1 will be better also.
I also had a lot of issues with PocketCM in terms of multiple SMSs or missing ones; but again that was quite a few versions back so it might be much better.
pardon my ignorance, what is threaded SMS?
Ref Pocket CM:
I have used only the recent versions and i have to say its a great program especially if your using a custom theme. Alot of new features have been added that make it a simple and fast program.
With regard to launching it... now you can set it to launch itself on recieving messages and you can dial / edit / contacts but also you can dial a new number too.
I would recommend it if you want a finger friendly app.

when ever i hear about 6.1 all i ever heard about is threaded SMS, and if thats all thats changed other than little bug fixes (which our chefs have probably over come anyway) IMO theres no point upgrading!
Well if the bug fixes create a more stable/useful/functional base to start with then it just means our cooks can come up with an even better final product.
Well as they've fixed it already, then its already what 6.1 is giving us. Aka its the same thing if you get what im saying?
IMO (and this is based on 6.1 just being bug fixes etc) then its for end users who dont know about XDA-Devs or similar in order to get the bugs fixed.
I hope im wrong, because like everyone i want some more things to play around with but ive just got this gut feeling its not going to be that impressive.
Yea, all i heard about was threaded sms & an updated PIE. that's all i got.
Ive heard that the Smartphone version has a tweaked UI so that its more simplified, but im get to see a single screenshot of 6.1 on a PPC or any news of anything new, obviously other than the bloody threaded sms that ill never use lol
If there is a new IE and Pocket Outlook I'd be more interested.
here's what i got from another thread
Here’s the full run-down of additions that you can expect to see in the WinMo6.1 update (from BGR):
* Copy / Paste
* Domain Enroll in Settings (Enrolling in a domain will connect your device with company resources.)
* New home screen (pan left and right to check out missed calls, notifications like email, sms, etc.)
* Change Master Security Code
* Added text input settings
* Recent Programs when pressing Start menu
* Threaded SMS
* When you compose an email, or SMS, and start typing the name of the contact in the “To:” field, the contact names finally pop up like Windows Mobile Professional!
* Internet Explorer now lets you define a homepage, and also zoom in and out using a nice and clean interface
i've tried the 6.1 rom on a hermes........it does seem a lot faster, although it may be just cause its a clean rom, but the PIE is still crap.......when you zoom out, scrolling is really slow. its a beta rom, hopefully it gets better in the final release.
i want the threaded sms thats all.. if someone could extract it so we could install it on our current roms that be fantastic

Everything on this list is already in WM Pro (except threaded sms)

You would need a different version of the SMS/MMS Arcsoft client.

As stated, you'd have to install a different version of the arcsoft software that does this. Microsoft (Arcsoft???) has decided that combined is better and all the newer versions have went this way (personally I like it combined myself, but it does catch me off guard when I get what I think is an SMS with no text then notice the tiny pic icon and realize its really an MMS). Just like the standard with WM6.1 is the threaded messaging (my opinion on that is still out. In some ways I like it, but other ways I hate it. So still trying to get used to it and not just turn it off (yet)).
Basically like back on WM5 where the left soft key in Arcsoft was to create a new message. Then WM6 changed that to be Delete and people screamed. But its still that way today and now most are used to it (or don't know any different).
Ive researched this topic quite a bit and have found that it cant be done unless the version of arcsoft mms is cooked into the rom. If it isnt, even after installing the older version over a new one, the combined messaging AND threading will still be in affect, it might also throw off your text and mms messaging entirely.
I may be wrong, but this is what Ive read in other threads and forums. If it can be done, Id love to know, because shortcuts to new mms wont work without this. and more importantly for, sms chat will stop intercepting my mms mesages

You are spot on! If you like it splitted up then you need a rom that does this for you, if I can make a small suggestion, give my rom a try (SMS & MMS are split up!) it's called DCSv1.7
the problem is PIM backup doesnt restore your MMS if you used a rom before with different sms and mms folders so now i dont have none of my MMS backed up on the tilt... sad
Separate!

MMS problems
I downloaded a sms threaded text cab for my att tilt- my problem is that i can't send or receive MMS messages anymore. i've been looking for days to find a way around this because i love the threaded text, but i NEED my MMS capabilities. can you point me in the right direction or do i just need to abandon my threaded txt and revert back to the original to get my MMS back?

You need to run connection wizard, or your connection settings cab again after installing the mms cab.
Dear All,
I searched for this, but couldn't find any reference to this particular issue. I tried all the latest 6.1 ROMs and it looks like a WM thing.
All ROMs, have this new "FEATURE" which let's you view the SMS as a thread of messages instead of one at a time.
This is great, the only drawback is, that I can no longer move threads or indvidual SMSs to different folders; even the option to manage folders is dimmed (also the move option).
The only work-around that I have found, is to delete the message, go to the trash, and move it from there. However, there is still no way to create a new folder.
Any Ideas/Suggestions/Solutions for this issue ?
I too miss the split SMS/MMS. I wonder if it is possible for our favorite chef to put ArcSoft MMS 4.2.8.1 in his latest ROM and have it work properly?
This would make it possible to run Vito SMS-Chat and receive MMS properly. If Dutty's latest did run so damn good I would revert back for this reason alone.
I remember communicating with a very talented individual named Shogunmark. I'm SURE that this individual could separate the SMS and MMS. I don't think it was via XDA though. Seems I met him through another site.
Check out this thread. Simple registry hack to disable threaded SMS in WM 6.1.
I've done a quick search that didn't really turn up any results, so I wonder if this is even possible. Is there a cab file available that will replace the regular sms with the wm6.1 sms on a wm6 device?

In order to run Threaded SMS on WM6, you need to install a 3rd party program such as PalmSMS.
I don't know if I am missing something here or is there no application freeware or commercial that can be used to backup/restore/save MMS messages in Windows Mobile?
This seems to be a huge gap if there is nothing out there?
I have used SpriteBackup to backup my phone but this seems unable to restore the MMS messages - I've logged a support call with SpriteSoftware but so far they have failled to respond.
Can anybody throw any light on the position re MMS backups?
Many thanks in advance,
Andy.
I know on my TD2 you can save the mms attachments onto your phone, so you could just do that
Hi, all.
I purchased a factory unlocked HTC Radar for my wife.
We happen to be using a carrier that requires specific MMS gateway settings, as well as certain user agent settings for the MMS client.
Autoconfigure seems to be working for things like voice and data, but I'm unsure if it is correctly pointing to the MMS gateway that is necessary. I'm wondering if there's a way to check what MMS settings the phone is using.
Furthermore, I'm trying to figure out a way to change the user agent. Apparently this carrier checks for user agents for sending (and maybe receiving? I can get MMS though...) MMS.
Any help or direction would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi,
I'm interesting to know how to change MMS User agent on mango too.
You could try HTC connection setup from the market (using my tmous hd7 on simple mobile and works fine). Or if the settings your looking to change is within registry try diagprovxml which can be downloaded on xda. Same thing basically except HTC connection setup has the settings built in to it. Just open connection setup and tap the "..." at the bottom and choose manual select.

htc connection did not resolve the problem. I have diagprovxml but i don't know what key put inside or change whit it. i need to change user agent of MMS to solve that.
Try to find out the reg edits needed for windows mobile... Alot of those registry parts are the same but use a registry editor on device to double check existance of those keys before changing registry with diagprovxml though.

I just got changed the MMS settings on my WP7.
Following my directions in thread 20634899 post #43. Make sure to read the whole thread as well as it gives some insight on the files you can use.
