GelaSkins - Nexus One Accessories

I've used GelaSkins on my last two iPhones and had good experiences with them. Not as much protection as a case (not going to help with falls) but works really well for scratch protection. Just noticed that they now have cutouts to fit Nexus Ones. Can't post outside links as a new user, but just click on the "phones" section to find at gelaskins.com.
Thinking of getting one, though after seeing the scratch video, not sure if it's necessary anymore...

What is "the scratch video"?

Cases and Protection

I am a week from having the cash to pick up an N1. I know there have been a lot of threads about cases, but I wanted to outline some of my thoughts and get opinions before I make my purchase. In addition, it is a little scary to hear reports of the phone getting broken easily: truth or not.
My problem is that I am a pocket phone holder. I do not wear belts often and when I do I am loaded with badges and other junk. Although I could hostler it, I already feel like batman without the fancy costume, and when I am not at work the hostler would not be an option.
So my plan is:
1. Get one of the plastic skins. My first choice is Clear Coat (new user so I cannot provide link). Most of these products appear to be the same, and although Clear Coat skins appear to have gaps and not fit as well as other brands, they have an installation guarantee. This is mainly to help the screen, but I will get full body to avoid scratches elsewhere.
2. Get a thin Silicon Gel Case. My theory is the gel will assist with gripping the device and absorb the shock from falls should they happen. This should also assist the clear coat skin against scratches to the body.
3. Get some sort of hard case to slip it into when I put it in my pocket. Since I normally carry my phone there, I am worried about the mysterious screen crackings which could be related to stress applied to the device when you sit and such. Hopefully a hard case will protect against this.
So, this is probably a little overkill, but am I completely insane?
My current phone is the T-mobile Shadow, which is a very cheap HTC phone with a plastic screen. I have had it for almost 2 years and have kept it in pretty good condition. I have 1 ding from accidentally placing it in the same pocket as my keys, and some major scratches when I had the genus idea of putting it in a ziplock bag when I went to Seaworld (well it did stay dry).
This is the most expensive phone I will have ever owned with only an very old world PDA being the most expensive mobile device. My wife is not exactly happy with me for spending this kind of money, and just seeing phones for calling people. As such, I am trying to make sure she cannot point a finger at a precaution I did not take: in addition to my own paranoia from reading the "I am having problems" forum on Google's site.
So, from the view point of people who have had other devices like this, am I being too worried or do these sound like reasonable precautions for this kind of device?
The information on these forums have been wonderful. Thanks for all the help!
I'm not sure what skin the last poster has used that yellowed, but I've used InvisibleSHIELD and Clear Protector, and they were still crystal clear after almost a year.

I have looked at these, but did not see this one. How stiff is the case? The leather looks pliable, and I want to prevent any bending of the phone.
I was looking at the flip open ones, but those seem too bulky. Also many of the pictures of these seem to have the phone photoshopped in, which makes me nervious. Hate the white thread too, but I could deal with that.
As for the invisible shield skins, did you have them actually tint the phone, or just - when applied - appear to be yellow? I have seen many reviews of these even over months of time and never heard this mentioned. Although I would be nervous about it permanently tinting the phone, if it just appears yellow when on then its worth a try since they can be removed. I know they are a pain to install, but I hate static protectors and really want something on the screen.
Thanks, fujitsupalm.
I saw your post in another thread. I think I might be leaning toward the flip on you posted pics of. How bulky is that? Does it interfer with the use of the screen?
I will probably get the flip or book version (wish it would let me post links), and get an invisible shield for the screen. It is humid here too, so I might have the same issue. However, if I can just remove it then its worth a shot.

[Q] S6 non-wallet leather case (back only, brown, in US)

I think there used to be a thread on this, but I can't find it anymore. Here's my question:
I'm looking for a thin leather case for my S6. Not so much a wallet style case, sleeve, or one with a closure, just a protector for the back and sides of the device. My experience with PU or low-grade leather (<$20) isn't great, so I'm fine spending a little more money (>$50).
Ideally, it would be brown and available in the US. The options I've seen so far don't fit in with the color, price, or domestic availability. Any suggestions? If you're going to suggest these, I've already looked at them and they are a bust:
I'm an XDA noob, so I'm prevented from posting links, but I've looked at cases from Stilgut (can't order from Amazon US and potential returns to DE seem difficult), Sena (no back-only case for the S6), Vaja (not making a case for the S6), and Montblanc (if I'm gonna spend $110, I need one that is perfect, i.e., brown). None fit the bill.
Again, apologies if this is a duplicate thread. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
P.S. As an aside, I'd consider a wooden case, but none of those (Carved, Toast, etc.) seem to be what I'm looking for either.
I'm interested in this as well.
The official Apple leather case for the iPhone is perfection for what I want. Unfortunately, that's one area that Samsung doesn't seem willing to take design queues from. I wouldn't mind paying 40/50 bucks if its THE only case id want/need.

Currently choosing between Galaxy S6 and iPhone 6. As silly as it might sound, a good leather (shell) case is one of my highest priorities.
I broke 3 iPhone 5's until I put the official leather case on it (I always disliked plasticky cases).
It added more grip, and just enough protection from average falls.
Ridiculous really. Choosing a $1000 piece of tech based on a $50 accessory. But that's just how it is.
Hopefully someone knows of something.
They haven't announced the S6 case yet but I have always been happy with with Vajacases - if you are willing to drop some extra cash. Here's one of the options for the S5: http://www.vajacases.com/galaxy-s5-leather-cases/premium-leather-grip
Edit: I see you mentioned Vaja is not making an S6 case. What is your source? It usually takes them a few months before the new models are ready.
There actually was a thread on this subject until recently, but when trying to find it now, I just realized it has inexplicably been deleted. Had a few good examples in it, but they're obviously not reachable now. I'll post the link here below in case the thread turns up again.

I contacted Vaja through their website back in April and they told me that it was under development. When I checked in last week, they said that a case for the S6 "is not currently being planned for production. We planned to develop a line in the past but I am afraid right now the project has been cancelled."
Whether that means it may show up later, who knows, but for now we're out of luck. Boo.
Yeah, no clue either why the other thread disappeared. It led me to a couple of versions of Apple-esque leather Galaxy S6 cases on eBay.
This one without a plastic fill in the camera/HRM cutout is the one that I already bought in dark blue for my black S6. In short:
Top and bottom are left uncovered
Fit is pretty good, no looseness anywhere really
The power + volume down buttons are both properly clicky
The volume up is pretty mushy, but not too bad
No interference with headphone jack or bottom USB port
The width of the case means that the camera module no longer touches the surface when laid on its back
It does NOT, however, appear to have any lift on the front so your screen will touch the surface when laid facedown
The last item was probably so that swiping in from the edge of the screen is still quite comfortable
Overall I'm pleased enough with the quality and feel of the PU leather cases that I might end up also trying out this slightly different version with plastic fill for the camera/HRM cutout . I'm not sure if it's unclear photos but it looks like this version has full coverage around at least the top of the bottom?
Anyhow, the one that I have feels a lot like the Apple Leather case I've tried out on iPhone 6, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Wow, thank you so much. The "more expensive one" is exactly what I am looking for. No cutouts on the side or anything. Looks perfect. Out of curiosity, how long did shipping take? I have the worst luck with that kind of thing, and it looks like it ships out of China.
Also, since you have the dark blue/black S6, can you throw up a few images for me?
I just ordered one of each... hopefully they arrive before S7....
Looks like one of these would work. Thanks for the tip.

Yeah, the buttons on the second cases I linked in my post look like they'll have better buttons. On mine it's like... slits on each end of the button section.
Shipping was surprisingly fast for me. I think I wanted like... just under two weeks? I was quoted a shipment time like 30+ days from purchase (which is insane), so I was pleasantly surprised when it showed up in normal China --> US shipment time.
If I can get a few minutes to myself at home tonight I'll try and snap a few choice pics of the dark blue on my black S6.
Though it's not without its tradeoffs, I think you'll be more than pleased with your order

I found a high end solution for you guys as well. Reviews on Bouletta from the Sony forums talk about them being some of the highest quality leather cases on the market.

BROWN: http://www.bouletta.com/index.php?i...xy_s6_ultimate_jacket_other_models-uj_rbt5_s6
Looks nice, but having the cut outs on the side just make it feel cheap to me...Even if it's of the highest quality

I know exactly what you mean. Originally I wanted an Xperia Z3, but there are literally no cases available without massive side cut-outs. The Z3 one is borderline ridiculous: http://www.bouletta.com/index.php?id_product=103&controller=product
The Galaxy S6 one isn't too bad. Not as good as the standard Apple one though unfortunately =\
I have the second case linked from ebay earlier. It is nowhere near leather feeling. I would say it feels more like a smoothed out velvet than anything. Also, the case does not really offer any protection for the front. It might stick out 1mm past the screen. Overall it is an okay case for the price, but if anyone wants a "leather" feel to a case, this is not the one for you. The buttons are not that great either. You lose most of the tactility from the keys with the case. I imagine over time they will break in and feel better, but after a week of use it doesn't feel great, but doesn't feel as bad as it did at first.

Am I missing something? I can't seem to find a price/how to buy? Is it a non-US site?. Also, the brown case looks grayish, no? (I'm legit color blind though, so that could just be my broken eyes)
Hey that bouletta case looks really nice. However, is the thickness of the back of the case enough so that the camera doesn't touch the surface the phone is placed on? I've seen many posts of people saying how they cracked the camera lenses after just putting the s6 on its back like on a table or something similar.
Thanks

ARRIVED!!
This one came in today : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Luxury-Orig...Domain_0&var=570673785727&hash=item3f4af29e66
Gotta say... i'm insanely impressed. I can't imagine getting much closer to the official Apple Leather case than this. Sure, there is virtually no drop protection, but that's not what I'm into. Just need to keep it scratch free and get that camera bump evened out. I have attached some pics.
Biggest problem for most people will be lack of lip around the screen. It's pretty much flush with the aluminum on the device. I actually prefer that since I never ever place my device face down... so i'm able to still feel the slight curve to the glass.
The buttons are a little stiff right now - but I'm going to chalk that up to material. It'd be awesome if they wear in over time, but not a big deal if they don't. I'm thrilled with this thing for 8 bucks... could easily sell for 30 in US retail stores.
I also got the 5 dollar version and it's not nearly as nice. That two dollars makes all the difference in the world apparently.

Thanks for the pictures. It looks to be a little off around the bottom of the phone. Is it just the angle of the picture or is that the case?
I had purchased something like this for an iPhone 6 plus that I had and it just slightly didn't fit the phone. The cut out for the camera was off were it wouldn't sit flush with the back of the phone. I ended up just biting the bullet and paying the 50 odd bucks for the apple one. It would be nice if there was a decent quality real leather option, even if the price was higher. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Again thanks for the picture.

DBrand Skins - any good?

I'm looking at getting a 6P in the new year and am buzzing having read the reviews. I am, however, considering protecting this one as it is a lot of money to cough up in one go (it will be the first time in a while I have bought a handset outright instead of as part of a contract).
Has anyone got any experience with the DBrand skins? I'm considering one as they look like a good compromise between having my phone completely exposed (and likely to become damaged knowing me) or hiding it away in a big leather / rubber case (why have a nice phone when its hidden away?).
The photos on their website look nice (IMO) but I don't know anyone with one or who has had one. Do they mark / wear much? Are they easy to install?
On a side note, do people still use screen protectors? I haven't done for years as I always struggled to find one which doesn't start peeling at the edges after a week of use. Problem is I always end up with small scratches (nothing major but can be annoying). Do people generally just put up with the tiny marks on screens or do you use decent screen protectors?
Thanks
There are pretty good threads on the topics you listed.
dbrand stuff LOTS of pictures in this thread.
Tempered glass screen protectors. Much more popular nowadays since they don't cost upwards of $20-40 USD like they used to a year or two ago. My 2 cents, people are raving about intelliarmor like they're the second coming of Jesus, but they are just like any other company using a Chinese manufacturer for their stuff. Customer service is on par with other vendors in my experience in providing replacements. I've have zero issues with Supershieldz and every install I've done for myself and others are fine. Prices are also similar if not the same. You can find a two pack of Supershieldz on Amazon for $7-8 USD, I think.
You can't go wrong with dbrand regarding quality and customer support. You'll love it.
I am currently rocking a dBrand skin and Intelliarmor TGSP and both products are amazing.
As for the customer service of Intelliarmor, I can say that they are way above average. I got 5 protectors for the price of one because they provided me with free upgrades to the new versions every time I asked. Though the new edge to edge is not truly edge to edge but it does come in a 2 pack also. The cutouts are perfect though.
As for dBrand, they're not kidding when they say precision cut. There is basically no wiggle room, but the quality has been top notch so far. The shipping takes a while though if you are not located in Canada.
There's whole threads on these 2 products already on this forum if you want to know more or get some more pics.
can't go wrong with dbrand or slickwraps. same quality IMO

Most likely my permanent case / tempered glass combo - ALMOST perfect!

At the time of this post, I'm running original day 1 US model firmware (1.15.617.4), and prices were $14 for Ringke case, $8 for 3-pack TGSP, and $7.50 for the other cheap TPU case I mention a few times).
Case: Ringke Fusion-X
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07F2ZNFKZ/
TGSP: Mr. Shield 3-Pack (out of stock. may try another later, but it's definitely good enough for me)
https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D3LGZ7P/
CASE:
Case is really rugged without adding much bulk. Surprisingly slim even compared to the cheapo clear TPU case I also bought to try (Coohasisee brand). I like the design, leaves a nice view of the back of the phone. Cutouts are super precise and the edges/angles/design are really clean and sharp. The clear part of the case even has protective film on both sides that you peel yourself, making sure it's in perfect condition when you get it.
100% honestly, I think the cheap TPU case's corners have better cushioning, but that's a non-issue for me since I never drop my phones. While the cheaper case seems to actually have some cushioning, the Ringke appears to, but IMHO the case seems too solid to actually cushion from drops on the corners.
Funnily enough, using a case actually seems to make using the digital volume/power buttons more reliable. Without a case (or with the official HTC free case that comes with the phone), I would often mistakenly hit the power button without actually touching it. If my thumb/finger was just below the power button while I was handling the phone, it could accidentally trigger a power button press. Doesn't happen whenever I have a case on though. Edge sense also works great. Strangely, without a case, edge sense would go nuts - sometimes the lightest squeeze would start triggering edge sense while death grips wouldn't be enough. I dunno, I think maybe it was registering part of my hand (palm or fingertips) touching the edges of the screen while squeezing? Honestly it makes no sense to me. With the case though, it's as reliable as my U11 (I have it set to short squeeze camera, long squeeze flashlight). Double tapping is just... different. I have to tap differently. But truthfully, I really don't use double tap actions at all (yet).
TGSP:
Good enough for me. No bubbles, and edges stick down perfectly. Not lifting up at all like with my U11. Has good oleophobic coating. Only problem is I think it's like a fraction of a millimeter too narrow. I have the right side stuck PERFECTLY in line, and a very tiny bit of the left side isn't covered (all in terms of viewable area). I'm talking the width of maybe 3-4 hairs. Shame, because if the right side is stuck this perfectly, they could afford making it a bit wider and still not worry about the edges lifting. It's good enough for me though that I don't think I'm even going to try another unless it gets scratched or chipped. I installed it with absolutely no dust and lined up perfectly, so I don't feel like doing it again. Plus, I have 2 more since it was a 3-pack lol.
PICTURES!! Pics are very high resolution. Last 4 pics show the TGSP.
https://imgur.com/a/23wpLKe
- Note, this isn't my permanent phone yet. Still using my U11 until TWRP and a nice ROM gets released. I still need to run Zelda A Link To The Past on an emulator and splice a new wallpaper with the new 1440x2880 resolution. My home screen normally looks much sweeter than the default Nova layout. =)
Attached some pics to the thread, but all pics I took are in the IMGUR link above.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I do search and the U12+ forums are pretty slow so far (but hopefully will get momentum soon, yay alpha TWRP builds!) and I felt like a new thread would be more fitting for a showing a decent case AND tempered glass setup that actually works pretty well. Your thread was a case compilation, which btw I have been following since before I even received the phone, but most people wouldn't glance at the topics expecting to see anything about TGSP's. I didn't see much on all the threads about decent tempered glass, especially one where the case doesn't wreck it, so I thought this post might help. I know the rules and do search. My post count is so low, despite being a member since 2006, because I usually search and find my answers instead of blindly asking, or I just tend to post what I think is useful stuff. Also, I lurk XDA much more than I post, and don't have much time to spend posting.
Speaking of which, I'll take this time to thank you for all your contributions too. Really, your firmware compilation threads and other contributions have been invaluable. I can see after what happened in your U11 firmware thread why you would be frustrated, but just believe me that I'm not as dumb as most ppl on the interwebs. q=D
PS: I copied/posted in your thread anyway, in case it might help anyone there. =)

It really isn't that bulky, especially compared to a "slim TPU" case. Maybe these photos might help. I happened to have a portable battery pack within reach that can hopefully help kind of gauge the size difference between cases / no case. Also, I since stuck a spigen kickstand on the Ringke Fusion-X case, FYI, so that's not normally there.
If you like the design and still want to show the nice back of the phone, I can't recommend it more highly.

I just got this same Rinke case with the same Spigen kickstand setup and like it very much except double tap sides does not work good. Using Cleanslate kernel improves all sensitivity on edge sense and the buttons but not so much for double tap sides. Great set up otherwise. Thanks for sharing.
Have this. Volume up key is finicky, otherwise I love it. I use the Orzero glass screen protector and it is almost perfectly flush.
I have the Ringke case too.. My only concern is the double tap function that is hard to activate, everything else is good, even the short/long squeeze

Finally found the perfect case + TGSP combo

Since I initially purchased my OnePlus 6 at launch, I've gone through a few different screen protectors and cases, including the OEM Nylon Bumper Case. While the Nylon Bumper Case was my previous favorite, I'm finding that the Spigen Rugged Armor case, paired with the Orzly TGSP, is absolutely perfect. The overall size of the Spigen case is almost identical to the OEM Nylon Bumper, so it isn't adding any more noticeable bulk. The added bonus is that the Spigen case hugs the top, bottom and sides of the Orzly protector with no gaps anywhere. There was a bit of a gap between the Orzly protector and the Nylon Bumper Case.
In addition, the buttons on the Spigen case are just as 'clicky' as the OEM Nylon Bumper Case while providing just a tad more of a gap between the back camera and the outside of the case, thus providing a little more protection for the back camera.
Overall, I am extremely happy and would highly recommend this combo. Admittedly, my previous Orzly screen protector was installed slightly off center, causing it to lift when the Spigen case was installed. However, I uninstalled that protector, cleaned the screen and re-installed my spare Orzly protector with the Spigen case installed, for perfect guidance. The end result is even better than I expected.
Anyway, on to pics...

Looks good... Beside the fact that I can't see the desigm of the spigen cases anymore. Don't they have somekind of design department? I'm tired of the look.
Looks like there is not too much lip to protect the screen. I have original tg and bought few cases. Ended up with nylon op6 case. Still not pleased that the side of the screen are partially covered by original op6 TG.
I'm you like your combo.
lol i take some gap over the ugly ass case and screen protector that not covers the whole screen bro but thanks for sharing anyways and hope others find it useful

The lip of the case is only a few mm above the screen protector. So not a lot of protection there. I'd say the lip is about the same height as the OEM nylon case.

Yeah, the case could definitely use a revamp. They've used the same design for like the last 2 years on all the phones they make this case for.

LOL what? The screen protector is full coverage. There's no other TGSP that covers more of the screen. Also, learn how to use punctuation. Trying to read your odd comments is like trying to read letters from my 10 year old niece.

Spigen Rugged is a trash case with minimal protection, I'm using the same one while waiting my otterbox.
also, your screen protector is trash as well since it cover too much and can be easily pilled.

Well, this is the last time I try to provide a positive contribution to this forum, which is now seemingly overrun by whiny children.
My friend I didn't mean to offend anyone. Thx for sharing. Im still looking TG that doesnt cover the sides of the screen. I used spigen on all my phones. First time I didnt keep one for op6.
As long you are happy...

I really like my orzly screen protector as well. I'm using it with the orzly case atm. I tried putting on my spigen case but it lifted the tgsp. I guess you need to apply the protector while in the spigen case to get it perfectly aligned.

Oh don't worry, I wasnt referring to you. In fact, I actually agreed with what you said about the case.
My coments we're directed at these other clowns who only post negative comments and never contribute anything useful to the forum.

Dude, stop being this softy! I said this is a good post and even tho its not for me i said that some might find this information usefull but then you came back at me with your stupid punctuation answer so what did you expect?
Im happy for you that you found the perfect combo and i know from my own experience that it can be a long road to find the perfect combination so this is why i said its good that you shared this info for others to read.
Also i dont think you should get in this defense this easy because you know on internet you get a more realistic response if people like it or not so you should have a bit more respect for your self and not take the bad comments, in your eyes, that serious
I think the screen protector is **** because it doesn't cover the notch and i hated this on the official screen protector also that came with the phone so i bought the official glass protector but since im hearing stories about it covering the screen due to the black borders, i didn't even take the the trouble to install it and went straight for other protectors with a all transparant top.
I have tried many cheap glass protectors but they all where **** due to the fact that all had problems with the edges and this is why i went to try the soft TPU nano protectors that i also used on my galaxy s7..... and guess what? I think they still are 1 of the best protectors in general because they wont raise the screen and i love the feel when i swipe my finger over it!
They also dirty cheap and easy to replace and when you apply it wet then its so easy to install so these are my go to protectors from now one in combination with the Nylon case.

Also how do you know that the clowns never contribute anything good to the forum? Have you checked all their history on the forums or are you just stating something you didn't check?
You just proved my point that not everything said on a forum has to be kind BUT it has to be respectful and honest which most of us did..... But to get back at the subject
I think the case you got on now doesn't look that great and this is why i think the nylon is a much better option
Happy to see that, because i got that case from another brand, but it's the same one lol, and i'm waiting for the shippment of the orzly's

If you had just provided details like this from the beginning, your initial negative comments would have made a lot more sense and not sounded like you were just complaining to complain.

The "Thanks" meter is a d*** good indicator of positive contribution. When you've been around here for 7 years, posted 790 times and only have 124 instances where your post helped someone, that's a clear sign that most of your time here has not been used to contribute useful things for others. Maybe consider that next time, before coming into the thread that someone created to try and help others, simply to bash it with negative comments. It's not helpful and it quickly derails threads for no reason.
It's perfectly fine to disagree. And as I said just before, if you had provided the details you just did in your last post right from the beginning, it would have probably sparked a worthwhile conversation. But you chose not to and now here we are.

its not bashing at all but just my opinion and if you re-read my first comment you would know! 2nd, lots of people dont even know where the thanks meter can be found or dont even care about things like that, just like me.

LOL! You can't be serious. The "Thanks" button is literally 2 buttons away from the "Reply" button that you (and everyone else) use on a daily basis. So I find it very hard to believe that "lots of people" don't know where it is. People seem to have no trouble finding it when someone posts something useful.
Anyway, this is an endless hole of bickering for no reason. I appreciate your comments and hope you have a great weekend. Cheers! :highfive:
Hey don't worry about those rude folks, thanks for posting your experience. Doesn't this Orzly protector have a black border? Do you find it cuts any of the viewable screen off? I've got the same case, currently using a soft film protector but I'm not satisfied with it and am only using it to prevent damage.

Yes the protector does have a black border. It does cut off a tiny bit of screen but nothing to even notice. On mine I can still see the time on the top left and the battery icon on the right. People say it cuts of some writing while in fastboot mode but I haven't checked. I haven't noticed anything cut off from the border.

Yep. As yldlj said, it cuts off a very tiny portion of the left and right sides. In normal usage you'd never notice it though. Other than in Fastboot, I haven't found a single app that pushes text far enough out that the TGSP border cuts it off.

I can confirm that it cuts off the very far edge of text while in Fastboot mode. This is the only time I've ever noticed it actually cutting anything off. But that's mainly because the text in Fastboot goes way to far to the screen edges and doesn't wrap- around to the next line where it should.

I have to disagree. I used this very case for HTC 10, S7, P10, Pixel and now OP6.
It saved my phone and my wallet so many times.
