Hi guys,
hopefully will be returning my I-Mate 9502 soon, and the only device I can imagine replacing it with is a Pro.
Are video drivers present? I read a few threads, but can't find a solid answer. Can the Pro at least play VGA video at full framerate? Can it do this through TV-out? I want to be able to play a divX video from my PC without having to convert.
Also, are there any other horiffic bugs/problems that I should know about that will stop me doing basic things?
Cheers,
Mike
I would also like to know answer for that question before purchasing touch pro. I learned from the mistake of buying kaiser without getting familiar to it's bugs before buying it.
Please someone run gxmark on your touch pro and tell me what score do you get! download gxmark here
edit. with kaiser i scored somewhere around 1550. So hopefully its at least that with touch pro.. and much better.
And please, someone with touch pro, run coreplayer benchmark and any D3D benchmark apps and keep us posted. Those numbers would tell us a lot how the device is managing. This would benefit all the users who are considering to swap their kaiser to TP.
Touchscreen Bug
Yes. I am also looking forward to touch pro. Only one thing interests me and hasn't been completely answered even in diamond forum: can anyone test if THE TOUCHSCREEN BUG from devices like tytn II still exist when playing a game that requires continuous stylus on screen (skyforce reloaded for ex, or call of duty 2). i saw some videos on youtube with a guy playing an emulator on the diamond and it was flawless. If that is the case, then I'm clear to buy this puppy.

I couldn't get gxmark to work, just got a plain white screen. I'll try something else later and test the video playing if nobody else does but I'm just having dinner right now
@ukdj78
If its not an issue can you try out this http://www.glbenchmark.com/GLBenchmark_Community_Full_1_02_WM5_CM.cab , you will need to register at www.glbenchmark.com to view the results. Can you post them here please?
Can you also try running this video as well
http://www.glbenchmark.com/videos/GLBenchmarkPro_High.wmv
Thanks.
Video playing is flawless using Coreplayer, and using the TV-Out cable has absolutely no effect on performance.
I'm not a big believer in benchmarks, but out of interest I ran benchmarks Coreplayer using DirectDraw, GDI, Raw FrameBuffer and QTV Display, just to see whether "QTV display" is still much better - it isn't - they all come out at roughly 140%. So there isn't the same sort of difference that I got when using "QTV Display" on the Kaiser, but the improvement isn't needed anyway (on the Kaiser the same videos would always return benchmarks under 100% unless I used the "QTV Display").
I've tried seven different 700Mb Xvid .avi movies, and they've all work perfectly. No page tearing or stuttering using CorePlayer. Haven't tried TCPMP, but I'm sure it'd work just as well.

Just ran the test, but I have no idea whether the results are any good. They're attached though...
Just tried a selection of video files from my PC in Windows Media Player on the Touch Pro and here are my findings (Video file info determined with GSpot v2.7):
.WMV file: 640x480 29.96fps 1257kps Audio: 44100Hz stereo 64Kps:
It didn't cope too well with it to be honest, sound was ok but the video only appeared to have about half the framerate of what it should be.
.AVI file: DivX 5/6 Codec 640x480 29.97fps 3164kps Audio: PCM 48000Hz 1536kps
Didn't play the video at all - got sound only (probably no video codec on device)
.AVI file: XVid Codex 720x438 29.97fps 1991kps Audio: MP3 44100Hz 128kps
Didn't play video or sound - came up with the message "Windows Media Player cannot play the file."
.MP4 file: 640x480 24fps 1601kps Audio: MP4 48000Hz Unknown kps
Played perfectly - Very smooth and not noticeably different from performance on my PC
.MPG files: Touch Pro does not recognise this format, wanted to try a PAL DVD quality MPEG 2 file
Looks like MP4 is the way to go for video files then
@sub69
Thanks mate. Its not great, almost identical to the Diamond in 3D performance, maybe the Diamond is a wee bit superior.
Any luck playing the video?
Thanks once again .
@ukdj
Try COrePlayer(which is 20USD) or TPCMP, supports a lot more codecs.
I'll try TCPMP then, used that a lot on my Vario II to play flv files but I originally didn't bother to install it on the touch pro cos I knew it could handle flv files since it had a youtube player built in!

I should declare that I had a few things minimised in the background (ActiveSync, Calendar, Messaging, File Explorer) and push mail was running, so it wasn't exactly a scientific test and I'm sure I could get marginally better results if I could be bothered!
We would expect it to be pretty much identical to the Diamond anyway, wouldn't we?
Video is very jerky if you just try to play it in CorePlayer, but if you run a CorePlayer benchmark on it, it's as smooth as you like. Odd. Much better in WMP, but still jerky.
@sub69 I'm having a little issue with text message notifications, could you do me a quick favour and try this on your touch pro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418089 If you want me to send you a text message to try it out Private message me with your mobile number and I'll send the word "test" to you!
The processor scores maybe higher although I doubt having minimized apps would have affected the 3D benchmarks. Since a lot of folks have mentioned that TF3D is smoother on the Pro than on the Diamond wondered if it was some changes to the 3D acceleration or better s/w optimisation of TF3D.
Did you try to play the video using QTv? Any benchmark values for the video from Coreplayer? btw, that video plays on the Kaiser at about 9-10fps.
Thanks again .
(just wanted to say this) You guys are the best! So much needed info about this, keep on going!

Don't really wanna pay $20 for testing purposes, sorry and TCPMP doesn't work either - another of the many programs I've found which don't seem to like VGA screens I'm using version 0.72RC1 is there a newer one which might work or is this the latest?
EDIT: just found another cab file for TCPMP on the Athena forum which has a different file name to mine, will give that a try!
2nd EDIT lol: No, that was no good either - it wouldn't even install!
You could try the TCPMP which was rebuilt using VS2008 (its in the dev and hacking forum i think)??
gimme a sec i'll get the URL...
EDIT: Here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387
youve probably already tried it but if not, do
EDIT 2: Im getting my Touch Pro soon after i get back from vacation (a week or so) so i will encode some vids into VGA and see how they perform, ive found coreplayer to be great so far with my Hermes so will have a straight comparison using the same files benchmarked both in QVGA and VGA versions on both devices.
Might be worth stating what kinda of formats people are using aswell (XVid/DivX, H261 etc....)
Try the one in this post, this is working on the diamond so high probability it will work on the touch pro.

Thanks,
I found changing the "Normal buffer size" to about 8000 kb improves video playback dramatically of an XVid file. This video was designed for the Tilt however with a 320x240 video size. I'll have to wait and see how it plays something at 640x480.

I guess that the smoother TF3D on the Raphael will be because it's a later build (later than any I ever saw in my Diamond ROM's, anyway).
Didn't get a percentage value for that video...I guess that because of the filetype, CorePlayer "benchmarks" it differently? CorePlayer just told me the bitrate and properties of that high-def file when I ran it's benchmark to the end. Again, QTV, DirectDraw, RawFrameBuffer, and GDI all looked pretty much identical to my untrained eye, but this time I didn't have percentage values to confirm that...
Can i play a 700MB 640x480 X-Vid (or wmv,...) file on a touch pro with coreplayer smoothly? or even a 2x700MB movie? (-->means double bitrate)
Sorry if the question is stupid, but i always read no concrete answer. (means YES or NO)
greetings

this is a very nice player which plays divx movies

For people having problems to download this file: Try another browser instead of Internet Explorer.
I could download it with Firefox, but when I tried to download it at a friends place with IE, it failed.
So I tried it at home with IE, also problems.
Tried it again with Firefox: No problem
have no problem downloading it with IE7..
you should ditch firefox. its the most sucky browser there is.. go check Opera if you insist on having a better browser as this is the only one better then IE7.

I hope you're joking! IE7 is terrible. Firefox is vastly superior and can be customised nicely! Opera is great on the PC (Not a huge fan of it on the PPC though); If you want speed, Safari is what you need!

I just tried this out and was very surprised to note that it played a full size 700 mb movie as well as Coreplayer with "QTV Display". I was only expecting it to be as good as "directdraw" on coreplayer, slow and jittery.
Has anyone tried this program with the TV Out cable? I wonder if it would still have the blue flicker reported when using Coreplayer and TV Out.

Great, I hope it works. Based on the reviews on Coreplayer and it's TV Out, I'd kind of lost hope on video performance for this phone.

Awesome. Can someone confirm the video quality over TV Out with this program? The two questions I have specifically are the following: Does the processor slow down any further when exporting via tv out - or does the tv out hardware take over? Also - when exporting to a widescreen tv, does the image stretch to the right aspect ratio, or does it only get wide making the image look fat?
Sorry P0ll0L0c0 unable to confirm TV Out performance as I don't have a cable, I can confirm that the app's not bad, it does however reset your backlight settings to 5 mins on battery and 10 mins on power but forgets to return them to original settings on exit.
Other than that, good work.
D.
got my pro and the tv-out cable today.
from what i can say is that the divx player sucks big time
coreplayer is the one to go for. but yes, i also have that blue flickering when using qtv. any fix for it already? still using the o2 stock rom if that matters.

I guess it must depend on the file. I've got a 700 mb copy of Hellboy that plays just as good on the divx player when compared to coreplayer using qtv. Since qtv doesn't work with tv out due to the blue flicker, the divx player has the advantage in my opinion.
I'm now tempted to buy a tv out cable to see how good output will be - but I think they're overpriced right now.
The Divx player stutters with every avi file I've tried on my device. Core player on QTV setting is by far the best (although you get the blue flicker on TV-Out). It's not too bad on the Direct Draw setting when using TV-Out, watchable.
Hopefully the next release of Core Player will solve this issue.

I've tried GDI and Direct draw it works but a/v is asyncron after a while.
I tried Divx Mpeg Mp4 and Mkv Files.
Works fine here, with GDI and RawBuffer settings.
Both performance and quality suck when playing MPEG-4 files though; haven't tried any other formats, but the videos I encode render much better in HTC Album and WMP than in CorePlayer.

Simply set output to GDI.
Hello all,
I don't know if there is already a post concerning that.
After many hours of search, i found a version of TCPMP which is operationnal on HD2 !!!!
URL : http://portegeclub.ru/file/multimedia/TCPMP-0.72RC1-GF5500Edition-Alpha4-CAB.rar
IF you are like me, the first video was completly green .... so open TCPMP, go to options/video and choose GDI instead of Directdraw
I hope that is going to help you, beacause personnally, i'm fed up about DIVX player (i have to big fingers ;-))
PS : sorry for Thierry Henry hand against Ireland .....
for me it also worked when in directdraw options I choose YV12 and with better performance than GDI
for it doesn't work with YU12 option but with YUY2 option
Thanks kheni - crashed my hd2 about 5 or 6 times trying to play video earlier today on loads of tcpmp hacks - this does the trick nicely
I've downloaded before the Alpha4.1 cab for this.. not sure whether it's the same. But I can't find the YUY2 thingy in any part of the setting. Care to elaborate further?
Edit: I've found the setting. Seems like there is no difference between the two cabs.
Request

It's in the "Setting", one of the last under 'Options'. Go to 'Direct Draw', choose it at the 'Select Page'. Then you can see the options to select YUY2.
Interestingly, the movie I encode for Touch HD now playable not only via the HTC Album media player, but also by TCPMP, but sometimes can see the lag. I think the processor is stronger now.
Thanks
Thanks Sian for your quick response.
Goin' to try now.
See you
Franky
You might want to try the "Raw Framebuffer" setting, see how it compares to DirectDraw. (On a TP2 it's faster). You could also try using DirectDraw, but with the "use blitting instead of overlays" box ticked in the DirectDraw settings page. There are lots of interesting combinations to try.
Thanks
Thanks, this version working fine on my HD2 but not read flv files (it crashes my HD2 everytime I test a flv file).
Maybe someone will find THE solution.
Thanks again

When using GDI rather than directdraw, there is video stuttering during playback

hello!i have TCPMP VERSION SUBTITLE EDITOR 0.81RC1 BETA and its working great with subs....try to update fellas....
Of the two TCPMP versions attached higher up, I haven't yet tried the version that is supposed to support subtitles, but have tried the first one. Comments on that:
1) While the default settings do certainly work they are not optimum (IMO). You will get better picture quality if you go into Options/Video and activate Dither, then "smooth zoom always" rather than "smooth zoom 50%". You will get substantially better performance if you then go into the DirectDraw settings page, choose "YUY2" as your overlay format, leave "use device stretching" checked, and uncheck the other two boxes.
2) The version of TCPMP I normally use is this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3275845&postcount=172. Compared to the first of the two versions attached to this thread (and, as I said, I haven't yet tested the second) it is a lot faster. On a sample 512x384 .avi clip, the version in this thread (with all of the quality and speed settings mentioned above) benchmarked at 209%. The version I just gave you a link to gives me 262%. I have never attempted to get subtitles working with it, so I don't know about that aspect.
Thanx so much, I had big problems with running this great application on my HD2. But according to this trick in settings:
1) While the default settings do certainly work they are not optimum (IMO). You will get better picture quality if you go into Options/Video and activate Dither, then "smooth zoom always" rather than "smooth zoom 50%". You will get substantially better performance if you then go into the DirectDraw settings page, choose "YUY2" as your overlay format, leave "use device stretching" checked, and uncheck the other two boxes.
everithing is fine right now.
Hi
Can anyone confirm whether this TCPMP will play MPEG2 files? I've been looking for something to play the MPEG2 video files exported from PlayTV on my PS3 for ages!
Cheers
Jim
Thank you! Works great and upscaling is ok
One question to any developer - will there ever be any possibilities of an upgraded UI? All my buttons are black on black backdrop and the sliders look very much PPC2002...
This is not in any way a display of me being ingrateful - just hoping for HD2-worthy eye candy

Hey, it seems this is working for most people, but I have never tried tcpmp before. Should my screen look like this ?
Thanks in advanced

Yes, it does look like that. I asked roughly the same question two posts up
