TF3D Date/Time Stamp SMS Issue (2016?) - Touch Pro2 CDMA

First of all... Happy New Years Everyone!!! I have a Sprint TP2. It's Jan. 1, 2010. My TF3D, however, thinks it's 2016 when receiving text msgs on my SMS stamp dates. I tried messing around w/ some settings on my phone, (doing soft reset, messing w/ TF3D calendar settings, changing WinMo time zone, etc.), but for some reason I keep getting my text msgs showing up as "1/1/16" as the date/time stamp in TF3D on my phone. It is also in the WinMo Threaded SMS, which wouldn't make it a total TF3D issue. When I change the calendar settings in TF3D to that calendar date, it only shows the time and not the physical date since it's a current day in TF3D's judgement.
The reason it shows that 2016 is the year, I believe, is that Jan. 1st on the 2010 and 2016 calendars both start on a Friday. Does anyone know of an existing fix or if there's some way to fix this without hard resetting my phone?

Verizon here.. same problems all over PPCGeeks. I am running MM Impact rom 12.28.09 2.5 and have the same issue. Maybe a prize for the first person to resolve it???

Thank you. I'm not the only one. I have the EXACT same problem. 2016 SMS timestamp. Tried everything I can think of.

Mines to, the exact same year also... its stupid because this 300 dollar "high tech" phone cant keep time better then my last cheap Razor.

It seems this is not just affecting a small group of people.

I dont even think a hard reset will fix this problem. I believe its an issue built into several WM6.5 Rom's

Special Thanks To Ziggy!!!
I have to say that this is the quickest response to a sudden issue such as this. Didn't realize it could be solved that easily and within the same day. Nice touch putting this in a .cab format for those who aren't comfortable editing regristy files. Thanks again man.

x2, worked like a charm, may your online-name live in mobile device history ;D

Question about this. I don't have this issue BUT the SMS server on my provider is messed up. If I'm on 3G, it will date all my incoming SMS's one hour behind. If I'm on Edge or GSM, they are the correct time. Will this solve my problem aka use the device's time for the timestamp?
Will this work on GSM devices?

Hey all, while searching for a fix for these, I came across these links. They provide hot-fixes, by HTC. This has not only FIXED the problem of 2016, but also put the MMS/SMS separate thread issue to rest as well (if you are scratching your head, my phone, on top of the 2016 bug, was making separate threads for picture messaging, making it difficult to keep everything organized).
US Cellular Touch Pro 2: http://www.htc.com/us/support/touch-pro2-us-cellular/downloads/
Sprint Touch Pro 2: http://www.htc.com/us/support/touch-pro2-sprint/downloads/

Hope this Helps you all.

I know the link has been posted but short version is
If your rom cooked or OEM uses OEMDrivers (chances are is does)
then go to the link posted above
load the following on your phone and reboot when done loading BOTH to save time.
-Ziggy471 USCC Rilphone.cab
-CorrectSMSDate.zip
works for me
if you wanna know how read the post or simple version
first file patches/replaces a dll used when reviving sms to fix the issue rather than work around it like the reg edit "fix" file
second file fixes your screwed up times on the texts already on the device.
have fun hope that helps

Not sure I follow completely. The links I posted do both fixing whatever files needed fixing AND change the text messages already on the device. This was all on top of the fact that all the threads were together again (both SMS and MMS were in one thread, instead of two or more). AND, to boot, those links were to fixes made by HTC and for the Touch Pro 2 (for Both Sprint and US Cellular Versions). All other versions are work-arounds and third party (not made or authorized by HTC or the phone company), which can lead to extra charges if one were to have to bring it in for repair/replacement and they see non-standard Roms and so on.
Have a nice day.

Can anybody answer this question for me?

I'm looking for the download for the Official Sprint Hotfix for the 2016 timestamp. When Sprint/HTC released the patch, the HTC website and Sprint Website had different versions. My wife and I both have TP2's. I've updated to 6.5 and constantly flashing. I cannot convince my wife to leave the stock 6.1. I left the hotfix undone on hers in hopes of convincing her, but to no avail.
Now she really wants it fixed. HTC and Sprint have removed it from their websites and only have the 6.5 update. I have the one from the HTC website still (not sure how I lost the one from the Sprint website) and it gives invalid version. I have searched here, ppcgeeks and google, but only able to find the ones from the HTC website or non official fixes.
If anyone still has the one from the Sprint site laying around, an upload would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time in advance.

CHEFS: Disregard what I said below. I'm not convinced this is an issue in the ROMs after all. At least not yet. Mods, feel free to move this to the regular Raph forum or wherever's appropriate. Still investigating ...

Hey Chefs -- Looks like at least some ROMs floating around are missing the latest Daylight Savings information. I discovered it using Proven, but since you guys build on one another's work, I'd be surprised if it's not in some of the other ROMs too.

WM6.1 roms have this build in. That fix was from wm 5 and 6.
This is the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6 (Pocket PC and Smartphone) update to address DST related issues in 2008 due to revised Daylight Saving Time laws in many countries.

That's what I thought, but the issue I described with my scheduling problem was indeed fixed by installing it.
Maybe something in my setup is an anomoly -- can any one else check on their post-March 8 events and see if they have a similar problem? And then see if this fixes it? It likely only comes up if you create an event in a system that knows the correct DST, then sync it to your phone.
It's possible that my DST information was overwritten somehow by some other software I've installed, but I can't think of what. I'll experiment after a hard reset and see if I get the same problem.

It is possible the fix was accidently removed from you rom. Or an older file was used for compatibility.
Stranger and stranger. The issue came back. Reinstalled the cab, it was fixed. Then it came back again (not sure if a soft reset triggered it, or possibly a sync with nuevasync). So probably not a ROM issue after all. I'd invite any mod to move this thread somewhere more appropriate. Still investigating ...
yupp i just looked at mine and it seems to have the same issue. I'm running RRE V4.4
edited
could have happened through outlook sync
I appear to have solved, or at least worked around, this issue by turnign off the option to change time zones and clocks in settings-personal-phone-time zones.
I imagine this is either: Something screwy with AT&T, or an unanticipated issue with AT&T's US settings and the ROM, since the ROM wasn't built specifically for the US (but certainly works on US devices).
I'd also guess that these events might correct themselves once we're actually in the DST period, but appear wrong until then. Probably because AT&T would compensate for the DST on its official clocks, as not all phones are smart enough to just work with the GMT behind the scenes and adjust appropriately.
However, just like before when I "fixed" it with the cab -- timed events have been corrected to their right times. Existing all-day events remain on the wrong day. New all-day events show up on the correct day.
If you believe something is missing from a rom, please post it in the thread for that rom so the chef would actually see it.
I -think- I finally found more on this:
It seems to come up if the phone is both:
1) Set to get Time Zones and clocks from the carrier
AND 2) If the registry setting to automatically change over for DST is turned off (this can be found in the misc. section of Advanced Config).
At least, this combo seems to cause it on AT&T.
If I'm not mistaken, these are both the default settings in the ROM I've been using.
It would come up if you create a time after the DST switchover (March 8) in something that syncs with the phone (in my case, my google calendar). You'd see the entry on the phone be one hour too early after it syncs.
Just a note: I'm still testing to make sure this is really the issue, but it seems to be bearing out so far.

Calling Anyone That Can Help: Let's Fix the Timestamp Issues!

I figure that as long as bugs are being ironed out, this one is worth a try.
As most people have noticed, Rogers networks seem to have SMS timestamping issues that have to do with the network and phone itself. These issues seem to be fixed by replacing the stock Rogers Mms.apk with the stock Google one (since this is what I think HotWeiss did with the HoFo community rom with some help from Nk02). I myself have noticed that the majority of ported Dream roms (such as Cyanogen's mods) also have this issue fixed with no additional tweaking. This leads to two important questions:
1) What makes the two Mms.apk different enough that one suffers from the timestamp issue and the other doesn't? Is is something that can be simply fixed by swapping a few files and resigning, or is it buried deeper in the code?
2) If it is as simple as swapping some files, can we use this knowledge to fix the 4 hour discrepancy that exists in the Hero ports? It seems to be one of the main bugs keeping people from using it.
I myself have been looking into various ways to fix it and have been coming up emptyhanded. Maybe we can use this space to bounce ideas and collaborate to come up with a solution. Please do not use this thread to complain about the timestamp issue. If you have a rom specific problem, post it in that thread. Try to use this space for coming up with ideas on the timestamp issue.
As usual, thanks for all the hard work, and hopefully we can find a solution!
I would really apreciate and suport this issue resolved.
I have a 32b from Vodafone Spain and using portuguese Vodafone but all the sms received are 1h behind.
It's the only thing stoping me from using a Hero rom.
I don't know if it's related, but when I turn on Location options (just wireless, not GPS) it boots my phone's system time back a couple of hours.
Although even when I do that, SMSes still come in stamped with GMT time, so instead of being 4 hours behind, they're six hours behind for that duration.
Is it always four hours? Or is it just GMT? Do people in Vancouver who have this problem have timestamps seven hours behind?
[Edit: System time is okay with location services on now. I'll keep an eye on it. Maybe it's related to the time glitches people were having on Rogers yesterday.]
[Edit the second: Nope. At lunch my time got thrown back by two hours. Fixed itself when I turned off wireless location again.]
I second that too.
I am staying away from all the Hero ROMs because of this issue as well. The only rom that works with no notible bugs is the HoFo ROM, but that's just not HERO. Sure, it's possible to push camera.apk to the Hero ROM, but it's not possible to do the same with the mms.apk file. All that really needs be done is compare the fixed mms.apk file with the Hero one, and find out where it was fixed.
Alright, I did some digging and found a few things. I dunno if this info is useful at all but at least it's a start.
After rooting around in the Android Developers guide, I found there was reference to getTimestampMillis in being used to return the service center timestamp. After dedexing the Hero Mms.odex (no classes.dex in the apk), I could not find any reference to the getTimestampMillis line, but instead found reference to a mTimeStamp in com/android/mms/dom/events/EventImpl.ddx. It also looked like there were references to the local time:
Code:
invoke-static {},java/lang/System/currentTimeMillis ; currentTimeMillis()J
and a reference to another timestamp related thing:
Code:
.method public getTimeStamp()J
.line 67
iget-wide-quick v0,v2,[obj+0x18]
return-wide v0
.end method
So that seems to be what I've found. I'm not saying it means anything, since I know squat about coding in Java, but at least its a start.
This isn't a fix but at least my texts aren't 4 hrs behind anymore. The clock widget shows my city and the current time with the texts stamped correctly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549291
hope it helps
Well, I dunno if anyone cares anymore, but here is a new update for Rogers Magics direct from HTC that supposedly addresses the original timestamp bug.
http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=2
I have no idea if this does anything for Hero roms. I suppose if there is someone more technical minded, they could extrapolate the fix and apply it to further roms.
Hmm
I have a HTC from Orange (PL) with a hero ROM and me and my half we trade sms's in almost in *realtime.. I'll test right a way again from the Orange website!
If something is going up, I never noticed!!
yes a fix would be nice for us canadians... i use the method origins81 uses but a real fix would be great
Seems to be a ROM update for Rogers on the HTC site. One fix is the timestamp issue.
http://www.htc.com/ca/SupportDownloadList.aspx?p_id=270&act=sd&cat=2
Could this ROM be examined for a fix?
Can anyone put up an alternate link elsewhere, rapidshare or megaupload? I keep getting "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device"
Thanks
*No need, you can pick it up from the Rogers website*
So I'm going to ask a dumb question, but does the published HTC source give any insight into fixing the timestamp issues? It's still pretty much the only annoying bug.

[APP] SMSTimestampFixer (Fixes SMS order problem) [v.1.3.1 - 28 April 2010]

Description:
This aims to fix the problem that occur when you use threaded messaging mode, that is sometimes the sms's appearing in the wrong order.
Background:
This problem is due to the fact that HTC Messaging app uses the device time to stamp on a send SMS and uses the server (service provider) time in received SMS and then uses that time to show and order the SMS in the thread mode (I'm not sure if native windows mobile app has this problem too). So if your device time is not in "perfect" sync with the server time sometimes, since the server could be late in comparison to your device, the messages will appear in a wrong order.
What this fix does:
When a new message arrives, this fix replaces the message time (that comes from the server time) with the device time and this way they will always show in the order they have arrived.
Also, every time that the device time is more than 1 minute different from the SMS original time, it will show the original SMS time between "[ ]" before the SMS text to let you know that it was sent some time ago.
This could be usefull if someone sends you a message and it does not arrive at that moment because your device was off (for example), you will see the time at when the sms arrived and not the one at when it was sent.
It will also show the date if the message was sent more than 24 hours ago.
Since this is a .dll that integrates with the winmo messaging process/service it will not eat your resources constantly.
I've been using this in my HD2 and having no problem so far.
Please report any problems that you find and fell free to suggest improvements.
A reboot after install may be necessary.
Procedure to test if it is working:
1 - Before installing you can increase the time in your device for 5 minutes;
2 - Send and SMS to yourself from the same device. You will see that the sent SMS will appear after the received one;
3 - Delete both SMS.
3 - Install this fix;
4 - With the time still 5 minutes ahead of the real time, send another SMS to yourself from the same device. This time it should appear in the right order and show the server time in the beggining of the SMS like: "[13:50:30] ....".
5 - Don't forget to put the time back to normal..
Version history:
1.1 [07 April 2010]
Launch version.
1.2 [08 April 2010]
Corrected the method used to find if it should show only time or also date in SMS text;
This new .cab ensures that the files are completely removed.
1.3 [26 April 2010]
Added configuration tool "SMSTimestampFixerCfg". Options:
Show/Hide original timestamp, the one between brackets;
Set the time difference that defines when to show the original timestamp;
Set the position where the original timestamp should appear.
The SMSTimestampFixerCfg application icon is not correct, I'll fix that in a next version.
1.3.1 [28 April 2010]
Fixed bug that was making version 1.3 useless (not reading the settings correctly).
1.3.2 [10 April 2011]
Removed extra space from "[ hh:mm:ss]".
SMSTimestampFixerCfg Settings:
"Show original timestamp": Enable or disable showing the original (service provider) timestamp between brackets in SMS text;
"Show if difference is bigger than": The original timestamp will only appear if the difference between your device's time and service provider's time is greater than the value specified here. This setting only takes effect if "Show original timestamp" is selected;
"Position": Defines if the original timestamp should appear before (beggining) or after (end) the SMS text. This setting only takes effect if "Show original timestamp" is selected.
You need to press the "Apply" button to apply settings. There should be a message box informing that the settings where applied. If the settings are not applied, do a soft reset.
ATTENTION: You should always remove the previous version and soft reset before installing a new one. When installing a version greater than 1.3 it should show a message with "SMSTimestampFixer XXX sucessfully registered" where XXX is the version number. If it does not show the correct version you should remove the application, soft reset and reinstall it.

Thanks for the feedback
I've uploaded a new version (1.2), check the first post.
This is just plain excellent. I'm pretty excited that someone has finally decided to CALL UPON such an issue... then FIX it.
This thread certainly NEEDS more attention... with that said, TELL YOUR FRIENDS FOLKS!

thanks
Thanks, just installed and tested, seems to work great !
I can't provide a point-of-reference in this case, as I haven't bothered to actually install the application JUST YET, but I have a feeling that eventually it will come in handy. Now having said that, IF there is anything else that can be done to further enhance this application, any improvement at all... continue to make it happen, and I'll be sure to bring more awareness to this sweet little fix.
ahhh finally, thanks for this
soo perfect... thank you, thank you!

[2 ISSUES]Phone Canvas Visual Glitch+Tasks[OP-6/23/10]

Hey there. First time I've started a thread in here in a while but these 2 issues have been plaguing me for quite some time... Ever since I've been using Comm5 builds as a matter of fact.
For my first issue - I have a visual glitch in my phone canvas(See screenshot below) that has really started to IRK me.
Facts:
WM Version:
Code:
WM6.5.5 Build 23563
Phone Canvas Build:
Code:
PACKAGE_LEO_TMOUS_Phone_Canvas_Enhancement_2G_4_2_62120113626_0
Device:
Code:
You guessed it.. T-Mobile HD2
I've also attached the phone canvas itself so you can look at the actual files I'm using.
Now for the second issue - When I go to add a new task that has to have a start/due date assigned to it, I can't select a new date. I click on the date box and it auto-fills but doesn't let me actually use the date picker or the WM Calendar Popup box. In essence, I can't actually set dates for my Tasks when I need to add them. This would be much less of an issue if there was a better 3rd party tasks application available but sadly as of right now there isn't one so I really need the WM tasks app fixed.
As I'm sure you might have already guessed from either my signature or the first half of this post, I'm using the 23563 build from Da_G's thread.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
DH
Bumping this. Still have the problems and still seeking an answer.
+1 on not being able to set start / due date for tasks.
the date entry looks like it is selected, and one expects a date picker to popup, but nothing.
Bumping again. Still seeking a fix for the phone canvas and tasks in WM6.5.5 build 23563.
Bumping this again... Please help. The Tasks issue isn't nearly as important as the phone canvas glitch but honestly they're both driving me crazy...
I'm really desperate to get this fixed... I've searched for almost a week now and exhausted all my resources to find what is causing this issue.
Hi there friend,
Try HTC's website for downloads on your phone they have tons of bug fixes available. Some reason they only have the downloads available on the backdoor europe side, but looks like same phone - so at least it can point you in right direction.

works with the built in tasks, so they sync as normal with outlook, and since i am using cookies home tab mod, i can alter the default program to open when i click on a task to be this rather than the built in tasks.
Not ideal, i would have preferred to fix it, (i tried by cooking in an older version of tasks.exe and tasks.dll, but no joy) but better than no start/due time for tasks!

Still seeking a fix for the phone canvas bug. Have exhausted all resources. REALLY need some help!!

Need someone to recommend me a ROM

I have been searching for recommendations on custom roms and since I am new I do not know if they are up to date.
I have heard of manial 2.5 and 2.1; but do not know what they are.
Also I heard there are custom roms of 6.1 and 6.5 but what is the difference?
To install a 6.5 rom do you need the 6.5 stock rom or can you do it from 6.1 stock rom?
I want performance, stability, speed, web browsing, and landscape slide out usable along with so it will work if I turn the phone and all sensors usable.
I am wishing to getting a head start since I am getting my Sprint CDMA TP2 in a few days. Any TP2 users here that think this phone is good and had it for a while?
NRG (aka EnergyRom) is probably the most popular ROM, i've been using it in various iterations since 12/09. It works well though Sprint picture mail can be problematic at times and I've been unable to disable HTC's texting/sms app (It can be ridiculously slow when you have a long conversation). 6.5 is a little more touch friendly than 6.1 but it's not a huge change. I use NRG's rom with sensity and CHT v2.0(cookie home tab which increases home screen flexibility). XDAndroid is also very nice (I'll switch permanently once they get the headphones working)
I have used nrg rom and have currently been using the superrom.
It's bare-bones and very fast. I had to add some of the .cab's that
i wanted but they are really easy to find. Phone has only frozen
on me like once and i have a large amount of text messages stored
on the phone.

I have tried about 15 already and have just decided 'Mighty Rom' will be sticking around. Very fast and stable it seems.

I hope it doesn't have the same flaws as energy rom. I think I will stick with the stock Rom first. Can you list me any internet, text, calling, landscape mode, sensors, physical keyboard etc. any other possible flaws it may have? Is it wm 6.1 or 6.5 layout?
Can you link me to the most up to date mighty rom thread and original maker?
The HTC messaging problem and sprint picture mail problems aren't ROM specific. HTC messaging can take 20+ seconds to load when you've got a ton of messages(it doesn't affect the web browser or email), you can bypass this by clicking all messages before replying to a new text (this opens the default text client rather than the HTC one). There are fixes that are supposed to bypass HTC messaging entirely but they don't seem to work.
The sprint picture mail problem is due to sprint picture mail not really sending pictures but instead links to pictures (you have to install arcsoft messaging and some other files to make it work). Sharky's rom may not have this problem (since it was developed specifically for sprint) but pretty much any other custom rom will.
Sounds like you already got your answer! Try my ROM Check my sig. for my PPC Geeks thread. Seeing as how that site is more geared to CDMA, that's where all my ROM action is.
Are there any other roms that are made for Sprint winmo 6.5?
How much memory RAM does your rom have on boot up sharky?
I just today noticed on stock I am unable to send/ receive text messages but can call and browse the internet. Problem happened after a few installs like flash lite, nfs shift, resco explorer, and maybe sktools cleanup has ran and broke it. So I plan on moving on to a custom rom.
Do any custom roms change radio? Because I HOPE NOT. I don't want an SAR change lol. SAR level change will be bad.
in refferance to sktools clean up.......you have to be carefull what you delete esspecially in the invalid registory entries and values mode......i usualy leave that alone unless i no for sure what i am deleting wont affect the phone.....and also just go to your file explorer/mydocuments/regsrybkp and restore what was deleted....
I couldn't find registry backup anywhere.
got your reply my friend..get back to you in a few hours...
ok...i am no expert...ther are a lot of smart guys in this forum when it comes to ppc's...thumbs up to them...what i no about this is experience because i have deleted 100 things before i learned...i no that if you use the registry cleaner in sktools it will tell you that things are invalid and so on....when they are actually valid....why, i dont no...but first check to see if back up deleted entries is selected to yes.....in your sktools program under tools menu go to settings...then scroll to invalid registry entries and at the bottom of that list you will find that option...the same for invalid registry values...if they both are yes then everything you deleted should be in your files program under 'registrybkp'....mine is under 'mydocuments'/'registrybkp'.....and if the deleted entries are there just tap on each one and they should automatically restore...and last, if for some reason you dont have any backups then a hard reset would be my advice to you.....i hope that helped .....good luck and just keep going by trial and error!
MR.X ROM! is super fast but you cant send picture mails

I'm not allowed yet to post outside links, so you'll have to search Howard forums for this:
Touch-Pro2-Tips-Tricks-amp-Registery-Modifications
I have maybe a dumb question. What does a cooked ROM give me, more functionality and features or just cosmetic modifications?
Thanks
All of the above. More stability as well. Phone rarely freezes to the point where it needs a hard reset and also no screen of deaths.

Is there any way I could get manual or at least a list of features for each ROM?
It's either on the rom forum page or you check the rom out yourself. Usually the original poster in the first post will list a list of features and give pictures for their rom. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and don't forget to thank me if I helped.
