[How-To] Apply 10MB RAM Hack to CM 4.2.11.1 - G1 Android Development

This ram hack for CM 4.2.11.1 takes the 10MB away from the GPU for 3D games and makes the extra RAM available for use. Note that if ur a person who plays 3D games, this isnt for u but if not...Enjoy!! you can thank absolutelyandroid.com for this.
*goto http://www.4shared.com/file/183027387/927f7f50/boot42111.html and download the file, place it on the root of your sdcard and rename it ramhack.img
In Terminal Emulator..
1.) type "su" and press enter...when superuser requests root access, select "always accept"
2.) type "flash_image boot /sdcard/ramhack.img" and press enter
3.) type "reboot" and press enter.
4.) Enjoy...
* If you want to check and see if it worked. Go back into Terminal Emulator and..
1.) type "su" and press enter
2.) type "cat /proc/meminfo" and press enter
3.) if done correctly, instead of 97076kb, it should say 107076kb

could i do this for hero rom

i believe, you are incredibly wrong in typing ".../ramhack.img"
it should be ".../boot42111.img"
oh wait wait, you renamed it. my bad. ok so now my question is why would you rename it? such a pointless step! if your gonna copy and paste just copy and paste dont change things.
1. people already have trouble doing things even with the simplest stuff, so extra steps are dumb
2. even something as simple as renaming the file could cause problems.
be careful with what you post so you dont end up with people blaming you for screwing up there phones.

naw bruh, its only for CM 4.2.11.1. Cyanogen used Android 1.6 and pieces of 2.0/2.1 to build it. Hero/Sense ROMs that are stable enough for everyday use Android 1.5. Sorry. Remember to use the search button at the top right for questions like that.

Anyway that I can get a mirror on AndroidSpin or have this attached to the thread since 4Shared is blocked at my job?

I'm assuming to undo this you simply backup the boot.img from 4.2.11.1 and reflash it. Or is it not that simple?

negative effects?
i was just wondering, i know that it says that the 10mb hack will negatively effect 3d gaming... i'm fine with that, but before going ahead, is there anything else that anyone has noticed actually getting worse performance? any particular apps, widgets, non-3d games?
thanks

Mirror(1): Here (RapidShare)
Mirror(2): Here (Direct)
Just place boot.img in the root of your sdcard and run the following
Code:
su
flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
reboot
You can also test it by running
Code:
su
cat /proc/meminfo
At the very top you should see "MemTotal: 107076 kb (Thanks to boimarc89 for this)

The only other known side-effect is random reboots, but those don't happen too often

not bad... i've found my phone has random reboots once in a while anyway haha. as long as it's faster while it's workin, i suppose i'll be happy haha

you can also check if its installed correctly by opening terminal then typing (free) is ur lazy like me

well I dont know about g1, but on mytouch the virtual keyboard in the terminal emulator doesnt type numbers, so renaming the file to something without numbers like ramhack.img is required to do the hack without adb shell

Apps to SD card app

Hey all,
I know I just put up my tutorial on how to do this but hopefully this will make things easier for everyone. I'd still suggest doing a nandroid backup first just to make sure but I tested this on my phone so it should work. Just run the app and if this is the first time moving your apps to your sd card(and you want to keep the ones you have) leave the checkbox checked. Otherwise uncheck it. Then just press the buttons that correspond to what you want to do. Enjoy
In order to use this you MUST:
1: Have an apps-to-sd ROM
2: Have your sd card partitioned correctly with FAT32 first and ext2 second.
3: Have busybox already installed to /system/xbin
NOTE: I'll try to help as much as I can but I can't take responsibility for anything this does to your phone. I'm pretty sure nothing bad will happen and nothing irreparable can happen but gotta say these things just to be sure anytime I'm messing with root permissions.
ANOTHER NOTE: I'll put this up in the market for $1. It'll remain free here but people can donate to me that way.
YET ANOTHER NOTE: I've managed to get a new method working that's a lot more stable and flexible. I will keep this thread here but won't be maintaining it.
EDIT: Moving data is too unstable, I've removed the option. It doesn't force close anymore when you don't have the setup right, it just gives an error and wont let you do anything, so that's better.
Tried it this morning and worked great. You might add a pop up at the end of moving apps to restart the device. When less experienced people use it, they won't know to do that I'm afraid.

OH SHOOT!!! I fixed this problem on the market one but forgot to put it back up on here. Umm... for now no1 should use the one posted here, until I can get home and post the updated one. OR if you still want to fix this and don't much just a bit of fiddling in the recovery terminal, after moving apps to sd, restart in recovery mode and do this:
Code:
mount data
ln -s /system/sd/app /data/app
For anyone who cares about such things, the problem is that it deletes the /data/app folder and then makes a symlink, which sounds ok, except that every super user command has to be run through the whitelist app... which no longer exists. So it's not able to set up the link and all hell breaks loose.
i did use the 1 from here
it says ln: /data/app: file exists
if i already had apps2sd, tried to upgrade my phone from 5.0 to 5.01G, so I wiped...then data.img wouldn't flash over...if i do this, will my apps show up again?

Yes, just uncheck the checkbox. But you might want to read the note that I just posted, there's a known problem with it that has a fix but requires going into the recovery terminal. I'll post the updated version of this app that doesn't have that bug tonight.

you had the "stale NFS handle" right? I'm not really sure what's going on but something in your phone's file system sounds like it went screwy. Maybe someone like JF or LucidREM could help? Your problem goes way over my head and I'm guessing the same is true of a lot of people on here unfortunately.
its cool imma jus stay with apps n caches to sd...n kep dalvik on the fone..i got passed the nfs error and get stuck at tmo g1 screen maybe ill try again l8ter
jf rom
Ok question I know it says apps to sd rom is needed does this mean only haykuro roms? I have a jfrc33 1.42 and I could do apps to sd using this rom (planning on doing it tonight my 8gig class 6 card arrived) so my question is can I just use this app or do I need to do all the steps manually

It should work on any apps to sd ROM. This includes LucidREM's modified JF ROMs. If you're gonna be manually changing it into an apps to sd, then I would think it would work but can't promise it. I wasn't able to figure that out when I tried so I'm not 100% sure that they work the same but I would imagine they would. Again, though, the one posted here has that known bug which will be fixed after I get home from work.
Short answer(s):
Haykuro's ROM: definitely works
LucidREM ROM: Don't have it to test it but almost assuredly works
Self-modified: probably works?
Sounds good I wasn't doing it till later tonight anyways (stuck at work also) also is it still a good idea to keep ext2 parititon less then 2gb like lucid reported on his tutorial

How and why do you people know all of this?

I had a friend root my phone and I know if I want to flash a new build I rename the file update and drag it to my android folder then restart the phone a certain way and press alt s to load the build.
I love my g1 and the 1.5 build Im using but I cant get any further because Ive scoured the internet and these threads and I just cant figure out what all of this computer jargon means and I dont understand how anybody does know without taking classes in it.
I think I should make a nandroid backup and partition my sd card to run apps but good lord what does this mean (regarding nandroid)???---
"anyone who has root on their G1 and has the engineering/dev spl bootloader [1] (or has a dev phone) + a recovery image with busybox and adbd running as root [2"
and this (regarding sd partition)???---
pre-requisite "You created the FAT32 / EXT2 combo partitions" I mean this is a PRE-REQUISITE! I found a thread regarding the fat/ext deal and didnt understand it either.
I know nobody is here to babysit but is there some website somebody can direct me to to begin understanding what Im reading, I mean I read through the sd partition for dummies thread and I literally understood MAYBE 10% of the words, if thats for "dummies" im clearly the "dumbest"
I have the will I just dont have the way, ive typed the language i dont understand into every search engine I know of and Ive learned nothing. You guys are born geniuses
and what the hell's a "script"
No offense intended, but I don't think you should root your phone or carry out any of the procedures outlined in the developer forum. Following instructions to the letter is important when you are performing unauthorized and unsupported hacks, and most of those instructions assume an intermediate-to-advanced level of computing understanding.
As far as "where you learn it", I assume it varies from person to person. Although in nearly all cases, you learn it slowly by absorption when you are immersed in computing culture. Eventually if you lurk enough and see a word enough times in a particular context, you gain an understanding of what it means without being explicitly told.
You learn as you read through forums and threads and asking questions. If you're lucky, someone will explain it to you.
A script is like a programming language that controls a software application.
Nandroid is a tool or script you can use to backup your phone. It takes a bit of knowledge to restore from the backup though and requires a separate thread
You can read all about SPL's here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860
Can't help you with busybox/adb/recovery image right now.
FAT32 and EXT2 are just file type partitions. Think of a hard drive as a box. You put a divider cutting the box down the middle to split it into 2 compartments so each compartment can store something different. That's essentially what you do to a SD card when you create a FAT32 and EXT2 partition.
I learned all this by totally screwing things up, then reading, and reading some more. Then using the search function of the forum and of course more reading.
Now I understand a good deal about ADB, terminal, and the many, many other things that come with a rooted phone,,
I don't agree with the post that said if you don't get it don't try it.....
But that is cause I learn by doing...
As mentioned, doing this is a little complicated. The wrong step can temporarily brick your phone and then you'd have to know how to fix it, which in a way also requires a certain level of knowledge. It's best to learn and absorb the information first and to NOT be in a hurry to implement what you learn.

This will be invaluable to fixing a botched up hack. Although, many times you'll also have to wipe (alt-w) to clear out your personal settings and personal data.

Nandroid is a backup program build into the... "recovery mode" for lack of a better description. It's where you do the alt-s at. Alt-b creates a backup of your system. To restore it, you must read the thread sticky that walks you through it.

As mentioned, FAT32 and EXT2 are types of filesystems. Think of it as being told to store a box in a wearhouse. The filesystem, in a sense, would be like the isles, shelves, etc. that help you not just have a giant pile of stuff.
This is asking you to have an SD card that has been partitioned off into two partitions (a giant wall in the middle of the wearhouse) where on one side you have one way of storing things that is easily understandable by the average joe (windows, linux, apple) and one side that is much more complicated but much more efficient to store things that only the wearhouse manager understand (linux.)

No. We all started somewhere. Nobody here came here and understood everything over night. Most of us have YEARS of experience in the computer field, if not decades. As far as knowledge here, it takes months of READING to really start to understand things. Once you do, THEN things will make sense and then you're less likely to break your phone.

Read, read, read. That's my way.
And like mentioned, a script is just what it is in real life. Something you follow. If I gave you a movie script, you follow what it tells you to do while in the movie. In the computer world, it's the same. You write a script that tells the computer what to do.

I see you joined few days ago. I suggest you start from the begining. i.e. read all stickies. Every questions that you've asked here was asked before by someone else and answered multiple times.
To offer a glimpse of hope here: it's a lot easier for n00bs now as more and more people get comfortable with Android and Android tools and it's not just 2-3 guys who can answer a question. Also, at this point we have apps that will run a script for you, move your apps and caches to SD, overclock you CPU, etc etc etc.
Welcome to XDA and good luck
For the APPS2SD do this....

OH, first backup EVERYTHING on your SD card to your desktop.
Open the terminal program... I always do this **** in adb cause you wont catch me dead trying to type and read a small screen when adb is copy and paste.
type
su
cd /data
wget http://64.105.21.209/bin/lib/droid/sdsplit
chmod 555 sdsplit
/data/sdsplit -nd -fs 7500M (thats for an 8 gig card. so adjust it depending on what side card you have 4 gig = 3500M etc...)
Now you need to make sure you have an APPS2SD rom... That makes /system/sd available. Now you have to copy and make "aliases" from the old spot to the new... Million threads on that one. Just wanted to give props to "MartinFick"s script (bunch of commands in a file I guess you can say. You can run any partitioning sw on windows 7 or I would of gone that route...
i appreciate the replies. Ive been on this forum for about month checking throughout the day (instead of paying attention to my professors) but only signed up recently to post.
I do understand the concept of nandroid and the sd partition, I just get lost in the processes very quickly. In my life Ive only learned by screwing things up so im ready for almost anything. I dont want to get stuck without a phone though so Ill definitely try to get a better understanding before trying anything dramatic. I guess Ill keep looking for some website that has a search where I can just type in all of the language I dont understand, surely this type of site exists I just havent found it yet...

I did it on the dudes. Any (i think) build that enables the ext partition to be mounted to /system/sd will work...
So can I partition while on this regular build and then flash the apps2sd build or do I need to first download an apps2sd build and then do the actual partition?
some help
When it says to use the jf build that's just the one he used and is familiar with the steps the root hack the phone are the same no matter what. Now the thing you want to do is learn one proccess and stick with it weather it be abd, fastboot, or the sdcard method for beginners or noobs I do not suggest adb or fastboot cause it require knowing how to use a comand line and if you don't know what that is then don't try it. But like everyone says read about it first before you take the plunge also since you have a friend who can do it have him show you how he does it sometime seeing it done on the fly or being told while doing it with someone there to take over if things go wrong is always good. Have fun flashing and once you figure it out do it a few time to get used to it

Remember to nandroid backup before you try and move all your files.

i see. im so much more confident attempting the partition after these posts im tempted to ask for the same help with nandroid since ive looked through the threads. But I guess i should head to one of them and start asking questions i know they run a pretty tight ship around here with duplicate threads and off-topic ones and what not...
nandroid was so much harder to read in the thread than it actually is
I'm hoping this thread may help other people.... and will try and help till I run out of beer.. anyway
restoring a backup when you are can connect with fastboot is so simple. Once you get adb working then dl and put fastboot in the tool dir. Then you go to your sd card /nadroid/randomcrap/whatever date/ and copy the 3 files below into the same tools directory.
from the command line on your computer type
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash data data.img
I flashed to one of the first cupcake roms and was like **** this! flashed right back to my old backup. ahhhhh!!!

the point is not to waste space in the DEV forum by asking noob questions. there's an entire q&a section, not to mention VERY thorough directions in Amon Ra's thread.

This Worked for Me
First, they're right. You are in the wrong section. But, this worked for me. First, copy the recovery image to the root of your sd card and rename it recovery.img. Next, open up your terminal emulator (I use Better Terminal, it's worth the small fee if you don't have it.) now type...
cp /sdcard/recovery.img /data/recovery.img
Make sure you have a space betwee "cp" and "/sdcard/recovery.img" and "/data/recovery.img". After that, just hit enter. Wait a few seconds. Do a full reboot. Then reboot into recovery. You should see that you have the new recovery image. If that doesn't work, you may need to type "su", then hit enter and then type the command above. This has worked for me on Amon_RA's last couple of recovery images.

try this instead in terminal or better terminal or whatever:

flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.1G.img
reboot
that's what i do every time an update comes out.
to be fair, i use the regular terminal on my mt3g and switch between stock keyboard and htc_ime since the latter seems to be the only one which will enter numbers in terminal.

[How-To]Remove Ads v.RootRequired

EDIT: We have NAND WRITE ACCESS NOW, NO NEED TO USE THIS ANYMORE! Do the NAND ROOT then Install AdFree from the Market!!!
Sadly we don't have access to write to the NAND on the Evo outside of the recovery console(yet). Some apps such as "AdFree" By BigTinCan do not work for us, as it doesn't have permission for this...
So we must do this manually...
Choose a hosts file!
You need to do is decide where to get your hosts file that will block them. I am attaching the one I am using, but you can find more all over the net
My hosts file (Which is both other options combined)
Another Option
Another option
Once you have one, put it into the tools Android Tools Directory (C:\AndroidSDK\tools for most people).
Copy the Hosts file to the device!
1. ) The phone must be rooted. (Thanks Toast)
2. ) Boot the phone into recovery (Where it says: RECOVERY INSTRUCTIONS).
3. ) Start up ADB Shell
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb shell
4. ) Mount the System Partition
Code:
# mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
5. ) Exit Adb Shell (Press Control+C)
6. ) Push the hosts.txt file to the device.
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb push hosts.txt /system/etc/hosts
7. ) Reboot Device
Code:
C:\AndroidSDK\tools>adb reboot
That's it, not hard at all. Sadly as time goes on, more ads will slip through the cracks, and you have to do this again.
Quick Q&A:
Q: How do I root the phone?
A: Read this thread.
Q: How do I boot into the recovery console?
A: Read this thread.
Q: How do I set up/what is ADB?
A: Read this thread.
Q: Is removing ads wrong?
A: Probably.
Q: What benefits do I get from removing ads?
A: Less distractions, faster load times, more of the actual app/game will be shown.
Q: I still have a question! How do I...?
A: Answer

my point being that
a) i've already posted this up. if tenny had searched, he would have found my thread and would have seen that his was not needed
b) i didn't post it in development, which is designed for kernels, ROMs, radios, etc
honestly, the evo forum is, hands down, the least organized forum that i've seen here at xda. so many people ran out and bought the evo and now come here, just post up without searching, ask the same questions over and over, etc. we end up with 75 threads all saying the same thing. it's ridiculous.

Well depends on what you consider development, some consider any writing to the system partition to be some form of development...
Still though I apologize for posting this after you, I did search but when I originally made this, just I got distracted and didn't submit the thread until later. Don't worry I never saw your thread and did all the research on my own.
But complaining about this thread in the wrong section TWICE does no good... the mods are moving threads and haven't moved this yet... honestly who cares quit *****ing and let's move on.

I do not think so. You need to boot into recovery for anything to stick, so if you can't then no.
hmmm...strange that when I push this hosts.txt file over to /system/etc/hosts, my entire device just hung. I have to revert back to original hosts file.
Any ideas?
I noticed it removed the ads from Jewels but it didn't remove them from chompSMS. Since I use text more than play games, I'd appreciate it if someone figures out how to remove the ads from chompSMS to let me know. O btw, I used the original hosts.txt file the OP uses.
i don't know about chompsms, but if you grab the hosts file from my thread, in q and a, it eliminated the ads from handcent (and everything else i run). the hosts file i posted was updated from adfree 3 days ago.
@vboy, do the push while in recovery mode and with /system mounted for write permissions. there shouldn't be any 'hang' because it's not done while the phone is in android.
Sorry I wanted to edit my post and let you know it works with chomp but as a new user I couldn't. The frame is there, but no more ad! Thanks

I'm pushing it in recovery mode and pushed over to evo as /system/etc/hosts. I think it caused some issue with my phone in routing for hosts. Whenever I start using apps with data, then it's start hanging. I removed and revert back to hosts file and all is good.

[Q] Step by Step?

Hey guys!
Noob here who has flashed other phones in the past, but never anything Android based. Is there a step by step guide anywhere for the Mesmerize? Something generic and simple to follow from post root to a fully flashed phone?
Thanks for any input.
Tyler
Well our moderator is nowhere to be seen.. we should have a step by step sticked.. but we don't.
1) Root your phone. Search the forums to figure out how to do that.
2) Install RomManager and the ClockworkMod Recovery. There's a thread for that as well.
3) Download and install the ROM of your choice. Roms are located in the Dev Forums.
The details can be found in the Mesmerize General and the Mesmerize Development Forums. Search is your friend.

When I began this process about 2 weeks ago, I was at the same experience level as you Tyler. This is what worked easiest for me for my US Cellular Mesmerize.
(I'm just going to elaborate a bit on what Dcow posted, hopefully he doesn't mind .
Also keep in mind there are many variations to each step, this is what worked for me the easiest as a newb, hoping it does for you too.
And last but not least. There is always the disclaimer that attempting any of this can and will make your phone dysfunctional and or possibly bricked beyond repair (but most likely just dysfunctional which is a pain in the arse to deal with) if you do not follow steps completely (and of a trustworthy source such as xda).
So take your time, read each step that these people have taken the time to carefully write up, and you'll be just fine. Be patient as things don't always move fast and you never want to freak out as you may screw things up bad, when it's actually just taking longer than you would expect. There is alot going on behind the scenes so just give it time, trust me!
1) Root your phone. - Basically all this means is gaining the ability to give programs/apps and yourself SuperUser access (equivalent of being admin in windows) and also the ability to flash roms via recovery, detailed below.
The easiest way to root is to acquire the z4root.apk.
Download Here
After download, put z4root.apk on your SD card root directory
Then make sure in Settings->Applications that the "Unknown sources" box is checked.
If you don't have a file manager, download a free one from the market, using the file manager navigate to the z4root.apk and select to install it.
Reboot your phone
After it boots, open the z4root app and press root. At this point it is going to hang, give it 2 minutes and pull the battery. Count to 10, put it back in and turn it on. - This is normal, trust me.
After it reboots open z4root again and run it, this time it will run no problems and phone will reboot.
Once you are rooted (you will see the superuser icon in your apps, it will show apps you've given that permission to eventually) you will need to make sure you have a file manager that can request root permissions (read/write) before you will be able to complete the next step. Search the market for "root file manager" and pick one to download and install.
Also at this step I would download and install RomManager and TerminalEmulator as you will need these later.
2) Install RomManager and the ClockworkMod Recovery. These will basically just give you the ability to boot into recovery where you can more easily flash kernel's/rom's and anything else you wish to push to your phone.
I was able to install the Clockwork Mod Recovery very easily just by simply using the root file manager app I downloaded with these instructions.
Download the two zip files located in the first post here
Place both files on your SD card root
Using the root file explorer app, move the Redbend_ua file from the SD card to /system/xbin/
Long press on the Redbend_ua file and click permissions, there should be one check missing, check that.
Now open the TerminalEmulator
NOTE:The spaces below are actual spaces and the bml8 is a lowercase "L" not a "1" there is also a space after cd, after redbend_ua, after restore, and after recovery.bin
TYPE THIS ALL EXACTLY AS SHOWN BETWEEN THE QUOTES
at the command line ($) type "su" (then hit enter)
Type "cd /system/xbin" (then hit enter, which changes directory)
Type "redbend_ua restore /sdcard/recovery.bin /dev/block/bml8" (then hit enter, It will now scroll a bunch of text and reboot.)
After phone boots, open RomManager
Click on Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
Select the Samsung Fascinate your phone will still be the mesmerize
At this point you're all stock and ready for new kernel/rom.
3) Install Voodoo lagfix kernel and new 5.0 sound
If you want speed and good battery life (and high standard marks) +unlocking the headphone amp and eq controls (it makes even the samsung headset sound killer) go here and follow those steps for using your now functional recovery mode to flash the new Voodoo 5.0 kernel.
Note: There are a few ways of getting into this recovery mode, the best way if all else fails is to hold phone from the back with left hand (thumb on volume button, in the middle holding both down and pointer on power button) hold these down until the mesmerize logo pops up then slide your thumb down a bit to volume down only (if you slip don't worry it might blink but it'll still go to recovery)
Note: If you are more code/computer oriented there is a method using a program called ADB, which I'm not familiar with and seemed more complicated than what I went with. Search for that on the forum if you wish to do the above process that way instead.
4) Download and install the ROM of your choice.
Just pick one from this list Here, read through the first post of each before you decide, some are plug and play some take a few steps first.
Credit goes to all of the OP's and many others included in my sig, these people are awesome show them some love!

I few days ago I found an explanation here on how to do this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1694111-Installing-Clockwork-and-Voodoo-onto-the-Samsung-Mesmerize
(The same explanation bdemartino gave here today)
1. I used the files from there. How do I tell if I am running voodoo5?
2. If its not the same, I've read that I can install voodoo5 over another voodoo, correct?
3. Is anyone having trouble with 3g, vibrate, etc...on the mez? I saw in the voodoo5 thread that a few people were having trouble with these things. I couldn't tell if they were fascinate, mesmerize or captivate.

That is the old Voodoo kernel, you will need to go to the link I listed in my post for Voodoo 5, and yes you can simply disable lagfix and flash the new one over the old.
And no problems on the write up, I spent a good amount of time digging up the links and stuff but I'll spend a little more time polishing it and will post it in another thread for Scotsman to stickie.
And to answer your last question, no I'm having no problems with any functions of my phone after upgrading to voodoo 5.
Thanks for the write up and nice job on it too. It seems, sometimes when people try and tell others how to do something, they don't break it down enough. But you did and made it easy for us noobs. Thanks again.
My clockwork ( or voodoo, not sure) didn't come with a "disable lag-fix" button. I just have to create an empty file called "disable_lagfix". I'm just unclear where to put it. I saw it somewhere before I just have to find it

There isn't a button, per se. When you go in to recovery, there is a disable lagfix option under voodoo. You can put the file, disable_lagfix, in the voodoo folder on your sdcard to do the same thing.
He does write up a good how-to, though, doesn't he.
Haha thanks guys, and you're welcome!
I think the reason you don't usually see this much detail from others is because they are more developmentally enabled and therefore "forget" to break down the little steps that are second nature to them but foreign language to a non-developer.
Thanks. I found it. and disabled it aready. now i just download the file in the write-up and boot into recovery, install zip from sd card and select my file correct?
I always wipe dalvik cache (in advance settings within Recover) before flashing anything.
So it's;
Disable Lagfix
Reboot (you'll hear the chick reversing the process)
Clear Dalvik
Install voodoo 5.0 from zip
reboot
re-enable lagfix and reboot one last time.
Then you'll need to download the voodoo controller app from the market to control the amp gain and set a few other eq settings.
Man you guys are fast. Thanks for the quick replies. WOW
Ive done all that except re-enable lag-fix. Noone ever mentions that step. Do I just remove the "disable_lagfix" file from the voodoo file and reboot?
I just enable/disable it through the voodoo menu in recovery, much easier than pushing files around. In your case i think you should be able to delete the file and reboot, but if not you may just need to go into voodoo and enable it that way (after removing the disable file)
I guess if I edit a post and dont finish it, the post gets deleted. Oh well, I asked how to reenalbe lag fix but i figured it out. Like I said I had to put the disable lag_fix file in the voodoo folder. I just had to remove it from that folder.
Is there a way to tell (besides the quickness and the extended battery life) how do i tell if its voodoo5? just out of curiousity
Just a guess here but possibly under About Phone the kernel version might? Mine is listed as 2.6.29
I would also think that when trying to use the Voodoo app it would fail if you didn't have the kernel so that would be a sign too, if that's what you're looking for.
Well thanks alot. Thats what mine was listed as also. And the voodoo app did work, so I guess I've got it. And I think thats all for now.
Now I think I might wait to see the awesome developers come up with for 2.2. I dont mind the stock 2.1 for now. I just dont want to keep flashing ROM's, if they might be close to getting a version of 2.2 going. I can wait....I think.
Thanks Again
