help me dude i want to flash RA-magic-v1.3.2

the point is not to waste space in the DEV forum by asking noob questions. there's an entire q&a section, not to mention VERY thorough directions in Amon Ra's thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
lock please.

This Worked for Me
First, they're right. You are in the wrong section. But, this worked for me. First, copy the recovery image to the root of your sd card and rename it recovery.img. Next, open up your terminal emulator (I use Better Terminal, it's worth the small fee if you don't have it.) now type...
cp /sdcard/recovery.img /data/recovery.img
Make sure you have a space betwee "cp" and "/sdcard/recovery.img" and "/data/recovery.img". After that, just hit enter. Wait a few seconds. Do a full reboot. Then reboot into recovery. You should see that you have the new recovery image. If that doesn't work, you may need to type "su", then hit enter and then type the command above. This has worked for me on Amon_RA's last couple of recovery images.

lol, now it's just kinda funny.
i guess it's not worth fighting anymore.
try this instead in terminal or better terminal or whatever:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.1G.img
reboot
that's what i do every time an update comes out.
to be fair, i use the regular terminal on my mt3g and switch between stock keyboard and htc_ime since the latter seems to be the only one which will enter numbers in terminal.
flameinthefire, pm me if you're still struggling.

[How-To] Apply 10MB RAM Hack to CM 4.2.11.1

This ram hack for CM 4.2.11.1 takes the 10MB away from the GPU for 3D games and makes the extra RAM available for use. Note that if ur a person who plays 3D games, this isnt for u but if not...Enjoy!! you can thank absolutelyandroid.com for this.
*goto http://www.4shared.com/file/183027387/927f7f50/boot42111.html and download the file, place it on the root of your sdcard and rename it ramhack.img
In Terminal Emulator..
1.) type "su" and press enter...when superuser requests root access, select "always accept"
2.) type "flash_image boot /sdcard/ramhack.img" and press enter
3.) type "reboot" and press enter.
4.) Enjoy...
* If you want to check and see if it worked. Go back into Terminal Emulator and..
1.) type "su" and press enter
2.) type "cat /proc/meminfo" and press enter
3.) if done correctly, instead of 97076kb, it should say 107076kb

1. people already have trouble doing things even with the simplest stuff, so extra steps are dumb
2. even something as simple as renaming the file could cause problems.

naw bruh, its only for CM 4.2.11.1. Cyanogen used Android 1.6 and pieces of 2.0/2.1 to build it. Hero/Sense ROMs that are stable enough for everyday use Android 1.5. Sorry. Remember to use the search button at the top right for questions like that.
Anyway that I can get a mirror on AndroidSpin or have this attached to the thread since 4Shared is blocked at my job?

negative effects?
i was just wondering, i know that it says that the 10mb hack will negatively effect 3d gaming... i'm fine with that, but before going ahead, is there anything else that anyone has noticed actually getting worse performance? any particular apps, widgets, non-3d games?
thanks
Mirror(1): Here (RapidShare)
Mirror(2): Here (Direct)
Just place boot.img in the root of your sdcard and run the following
Code:
su
flash_image boot /sdcard/boot.img
reboot
You can also test it by running
Code:
su
cat /proc/meminfo
At the very top you should see "MemTotal: 107076 kb (Thanks to boimarc89 for this)

You do not NEED to have your phone connected to your computer any more as long as you have the right programs on your phone. If you use z4Mod to root your phone, download the application Superuser to give applications SU permissions, install ROM Manager, and then use Root Explorer to move the files into their necessary locations and then use Terminal Emulator to execute the commands.
I have rooted, installed ROM Manager, backed up my ROM, installed the kernel in this thread all without knowing what ADB is.
All applications are available in the Market
z4Mod
Superuser
ROM Manager
Root Explorer ($4)
Terminal Emulator

I dident use adb to get it working. Found it faster to use root explorer to place files and then change permissions of the files on system and SD.
Then use terminal to run the command

[Boot Splash] "Inspired" by Light (w/Preview Pic)

I hope you enjoy this. These are pretty easy for me to make, so if you have a request... ... At any rate, "thank" me if you like it and use it. And if you screw anything up and your phone explodes, or breaks, or Smurfs attack from outer space, it's your fault. you have been warned!
How to flash:
1. Unzip the file so you have "splash1.img" and place this file in your "tools" folder of your SDK package.
2. Boot into your bootloader (fastboot mode)
3. From the command prompt: Change directories to your SDK "Tools" folder then type:
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img
4. Reboot and enjoy
Got a preview pic by chance. Also check your pm's.
Preview pic should be up... I see it on my end?? It's HUGE. lol..
Anyone else not see the pic?
EDIT: Just checked the OP on a different PC, and pic WAS NOT showing up. This has now been corrected. ...

Note: I will update the OP with the stock Boot splash as well, once I receive my phone.
OK, stupid question time (my specialty) I get into the Inspire bootloader OK, but then how do I call up or otherwise access "command prompt"? It's not like I have a menu button I can push, and command prompt doesn't seem to be one of the options displayed on the screen. I may be overlooking the obvious, and if so I apologize.

What T.A.G. was referring to was using the command prompt in Windows. This would also be used in conjunction with having the Android SDK installed in Windows.

HeroC Recovery Pack

For experienced users only.
First of all props to roebeet for coming up with this idea over at the gTablet thread here.
This 'Recovery Pack' will install AmonRA-v1.6.2 and ClockworkMod-2.5.0.7 binaries in a folder 'recovery' created in /system/etc and 2 shell scripts in /system/bin used to call flash_image and flash the recoveries from Terminal Emulator.
How to use:
1. Flash the Recovery Pack
2. In Terminal Emulator:
$su
#amonrecovery.sh ~ for AmonRa-v1.6.2 Recovery
#cwmrecovery.sh ~ for ClockworkMod-2.5.0.7 Recovery
As you can see there's minimal typing and easy to remember names.
If you like you can add/replace recovery images in the /system/etc/recovery folder and create/adjust the shell script.
HeroC-Recoveries-signed.zip ~ Just the 2 recovery images and 2 shell scripts.
md5: 7414ee444eea7bdbf1e85e2ac89d7b86
HeroC-Recovery-Pack-signed.zip ~ Same as above but also installs flash_image in /system/bin.

As always Nandroid and proceed at your own risk. (read first line)
cant you do the same thing through rom manager this seems kind of pointless rom managers actually better to because u dont have to mess with TE.
I don't use ROM Manager all that much myself (GTablet doesn't play nice with it), but I assume you'd need an active Wifi connection to get the download, in case you wanted it? And what if the download site itself was offline? The scripts are more convenient, imo - you know that it will work since it's local, and it's pretty fast to run them. Terminal Emulator is a pretty good app to have, anyway.
And, it will always be the same version each time - which could be a good or a bad thing, depending on your needs of course. But options are always a good thing.

I just had a shouting match on Facebook so I'm probably a bit grumpy, I should have said:
"Yes, you can do these things in ROM Manager, but if you can't boot into the rom or recovery, you can use these same scripts with ADB. I've had a hard time finding flash_image in the past so this whole pack is probably useful if you are in deep poo with your phone."

I agree with that and this tool. Rom manager isn't better than this just because the server could be down, you have to download the recovery for the first time, etc, etc. Not saying its bad because I used to use it but now I use this if i'm on mobile and adb shell if on computer. Thanks
Thanks for this to all involved. I doubt I'll ever need it since I'm s-off, but it's a pretty awesome tool! I'm sure it will be useful to other users, I will link them to your thread

Help for a total noob needed.

Hello everyone. It has been a year since i bought my Captivate and i just put my hands on this awesome device (Infuse 4G).
I feel a little retarded as i completely forgot who i donated to on this forum for helping me to unlock my captivate when there was no soft for it in the market yet. I would like to thank you again whoever it was.
Anyway, I would like to ask you to help me to get rid of At&T crapware and get a nice clean fast rom. I will also need instruction for a total retard. Flashing a phone is not an everyday business for me.
Thanks

Which zip have you downloaded and extracted?
Have you read any instructions that are all over this site and many others?
There are literally video tutorials that go step by step from stock out of the box, to rooted and installing a ROM.
Search is your friend. Your best bet is to do some reading before you attempt to install a custom ROM. It's actually quite simple to do, hell I have upgraded my ROM while driving from the hanger at work over to the airport terminal.
However, if you don't know what you are doing, and aren't familiar with the concepts, you can and most likely will end up with a nice shiny brick. (soft brick most likely)
So, find the INFUSED rom thread and start reading and looking at the tutorials he has posted before you take another step. Then, and only then, if you still have questions, people will be very happy to help you out.
Also, as for unlock - if you read through the various threads on this forum, there are two methods covered for obtaining the SIM unlock code for our phones. One requires your phone to be rooted already, one is a script that roots the phone, extracts the code, and then optionally undoes the rooting.
Thanks a lot guys. I really should slow down and read stuff properly. Will let u know how im doing. Thanks again for being there.
