Guide to DATA,MMS on Metropcs - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I take no credit for this,,, I just googled and found it
I have not tested it yet..Will be getting my Hero in a few weeks
Let me know if this works for someone besides the guys over that website..
http://www.mobile-files.com/forum/showthread.php?t=126011&page=1

no mms and apps dont work. internet does

I hope it gets solved somehow

sorry to revive a month+ old topic..but the link is offline, anyone have this information they can share? I'm very curious about bringing my Hero to MetroPCS.

I am going to see if I have the info when I get home, but don't do it man don't switch the hero to sprint, is worthless in that carrier, I mean Unlimited Calls, and Text, sure...but slow internet, and it does not work for the Market and 3rd party apps, not good.
I had it on metro and switch to sprint. ;D
just my 2cents

Market apps don't work? well thats a deal breaker. I guess i'll stick to paying $70 a month via sprint =( thank for your input.

The main problem is that MetropCs uses a Proxy server...and nobody ca find a way to fool android into this using this proxy...therefore nothing works. You can Browse the internet...but not 3rd party apps...and honestly is slow as hell!

$10 unlimited media max web question

i got a question for all you guys using the (dumb phone) internet on your Fuze.. i have got an unlimited messaging family plan and they said i could add the unlimited web to a dumb phone not my fuze... so i gave them the imei number off an old razr and now they have my fuze and the razr on the account on the same line... i told them i only use data on the razr and i use wifi on the fuze... so my question is (i know this has been talked about before) am i all good or can they tell the difference between when im using the razr for data or the fuze for data.... the only reason im asking this is because they know im running the fuze on the same line also and i dont know if they can tell the difference?
They can't tell the difference. I've done exactly the same thing as you stated above and I've been using it this way for months now with no issues.
your good
yea - same here - got the media max 200 and use my phone to skype, slingbox, modem when on road trip ever few weeks and log into my camera system to view live streaming videos - use about 150K KB a month on average.
You got no worries!
sDs
I have done the same thing. I have Unlimited Texting and Web for $30
Just make sure to swap phones a day before calling AT&T about your account. And make sure that they didn't take your plan off once in a while. I do streaming download mp3's, P2P and more.
thanks guys... thats what i figured... i just wanted piece of mind that i was going to be ok using it.... and i only use it for light browsing anyway... but should i switch and use the razr sometimes or am i good just using my fuze 100% of the time
you can use ur fuze 100% percent of the time. this has always been a grey area for at&t but u paying for some data is better then none at all. i too have done the same for years now. its hard to seperate who uses what in terms of kb. yes pda's use more data but with the likes of celluar video and other at&t media features, even regular devices can use a lot of data. enjoy!
I've kept the same Data Package for years. I upgraded to a Fuze from a Samsung Blackjack. The sales guy told me some BS line like, "well the Fuze requires a faster data package because the Fuze is a faster device and the data on the cheap plan can't keep up."
I actually don't have any other phone's IEMI number on my account other then my Fuze. When I call Customer service or visit a store, they say I need the bigger plan but I tell them that it is working perfectly fine and to leave it alone.
ha ha i love squeaking by... these big carriers make hella dough... i just think its bull that both plans work exactly the same but they charge you more for having a more expensive device
Now will I get 3G service on my FUZE if I gave ATT an IMEI of edge/2G dumb phone?

Probably but I think MEdia Net would be cheaper
Yeah you will get 3g no problem, as long as its in your area.. There is nothing different between the pda plan and the medianet plan..
I pitched a fit to ATT one day about it, and I was told becuase my phone had a keyboard they want me to use the more expensive plan.. I guess because I can type in websites faster lol =/
You guys who use medianet, how much data do you average a month that you use? I think I use in the range of 200-300MB, I try to limit though to stay under radar.. lol
**edit**
Also not 100% sure on this, if you will get billed extra rather, but make sure you are using wap.cingular for your gateway and not ISP.cingular.. Supposedly you could get charge every money if you use the isp one.

How to get Free GPS w/o a data plan?

Hi, i own an hTc fuze but i run with t-mobile. i dont have a data plan, but i heard there's a way to get around that to get the gps working for your phone. i tried doing some research but had no luck, can someone guide me in the right direction as to what do i need to do to have free gps working on my phone?
your help is appreciated
Look at third party GPS providers such as Garmin. Their maps are saved on the storage card rather than getting them live through the servers such as google.
where can i look?
google.co.uk is your friend
ok...its a uk version of google, but idk where to go with that?

free hotspot mod???

Does anyone know if the free hotspot mod that worked on the Inc works on the Tbolt as well....I have a sneaking feeling that it doesnt since the 4g card sort of throw a wrench in the programming stuff, but I don't rmember how it worked since I rooted and didnt need it after about June of last year. But I havent rooted my tbolt yet and am interested in using it after the 5/15 trail runs out (if it mkaes any difference I am not in a 4g area, so 3g hotspot would be sufficient...

Correct! you pay once for the data to use on that ONE device. If Mobile providers went by the same metrics as home service you would be paying $50 for the internet to use on any device you wanted. Since it's a mobile device you are paying for just that device not whatever devices you want. $30 for unlimited LTE is a great deal, and it's people like you who feel entitles to leach off the network for free so you can run a server or not have to pay for home internet. But thats another discussion ;-)

I agree with you but also believe that we should get a small monthly allowance for wifi tethering. Maybe 200mb. Maybe less.
I'm the guy who needs to access the web from my laptop to edit a document and email it to a customer quickly while at a trade show or traveling once every 3 months. I now go to a free wifi hotspot somewhere instead of paying verizon.
People using hacked tethering that use a lot of data is not cool.
its people like me who already pay vzw $50 a month for internet at home and $30 a month for internet on my phone, who, when traveling, would like to be able to use the device I pay verizon for the privilege of using to view the same exact data on a larger freakin screen. Why do they give a crap whether I look at a website from my phone or use the phone to pull up the website on a laptop. Don't give me the people like you spiel....

They give a crap because you're paying Verizon to use data on the phone, not whatever device you'd like. It's as simple as that.
They (vzw) give a crap cuz it makes them money... Dont sugar coat it, for years "people like us" have kept them goin if i wanna leech so i can check my email on a laptop once in a while i will.
Anyone trying to use tether for a home Internet connection is just stupid 4g or not...

There should be some additional benefit to buying home internet from them as well. It is a shame they can't see the wisdom in this from a marketing perspective.
That said, the rumor is that they are going after people for trying to do this... Personally i'm going to use the crap out of my hotspot till they take it away My 4G was way better than the hotel wifi on my current business trip, so i've racked up quite a bit of data. Between downloading the new ubuntu 11.04 iso and watching the office, while sitting at the airport, i think i've gotten my money's worth.

[Q] New Data plan required...

Let me get to the point. I just got my G2x yesterday, swapped everything from my N1. On WiFi, np, I can access anything thru the internet. W/o WiFi, I still get MMS and can trick my phone in getting short data, like my current weather in a widget, etc. but when a browser is pulled up, it tells me I have the wrong data plan and I have to update.
Now, I know exactly what this is, my question is more if there is a way of circumnavigating it? I have the same plan I had w/my G1, which was just before the data plans changed and I don't want to have upgrade to one of thier new limited-unltd AND pay more on top of it. I was planning on rooting it anyway as I have my past to Androids (thanks by the way XDA, w/o this site, I couldn't have done it), but was waiting for CM7. I know there are several great ROMs out there though, many more than when I originally flashed my G1 and if by rooting it, I would work around whatever is relaying my phn info.
Oh, and so everyone knows, I haven't updated my imei yet w/TMo, but I've never experienced this before even w/o my imei being updated.
Anyway, hope my rambling has at least stayed near the tracks of reason and someone can give me an answer. If I have to update my service then I have to, I just don't like being "forced" to , makes me think AT&T and I would LOOOOOOVE to get around this!
Thx all...
Call T-Mobile and tell them what you're seeing. They'll probably first tell you that you'll have to upgrade, or pay more. Tell them that is unacceptable and you'd like to be grandfathered in.
See if that works, I've heard that some people who used T-Zones back in the day are grandfathered in at $5.99 for unlimited web. I'm not sure how valid this may be, but try your luck with T-Mobile and post back here what the outcome was.
I'll give it a try, but I'm going to give hope a chance and hold my breath hoping that maybe, just maybe, this can be circumnavigated by freezing and/or removing some sort of pre-installed mothership progam hidden in one of the many bloatware by TMo...
im grandfatherd with the 6 dollar tzones but it cut off on me last week like when i go to the web it tells me my plans not sufficent for it so idk what to do but im not gettin a data plan
If you are on T-Zones I really doubt you will be able to keep it. What I would do is call retentions and try to get them to put the grandfathered $20 Android plan on there so at least you get it for a little bit less.
Pretty much the same thing I'm getting, it redirects me to web2go.com and tells me I have to update my data plan.
Don't get me wrong, if the TMo commercial chick dressed up like a dominatrix, I would make it my screensaver among other things, it doesn't mean I long for my provider to act the role...
Did you renew your contract?? I am still using the $25 plan I got when I had my G1. At some point (can't remember if I was still on G1 or Nexus One) but I had to switch to the "Android Data Plan" instead of the G! plan (to get Visual Voicemail). My price remained the same, just the name changed. But, I didn't renew my contract when I bought this phone.
Nope, no contract.

Do you know the name of the actual plan you have? I am a Tech Care rep and the only time you would need to change from a grandfathered plan is if you had a generic smartphone plan instead of an android specific plan.
You may have to upgrade to the android specific, but there are ways around paying the higher cost. Retentions is a good way, got a guy the $20 buck plan yesterday to match his loyalty Blackberry internet plan through retentions.

True but good luck with any customer service or tech support.
I just got my G2x today coming from my N1. I was able to keep my Myfaves + unlimited android data, in fact it was recommended i keep it because it has a 5gb cap and the new plan would be 2gb

Ive been with them since it was available ,never had to call customer support and never had an issue...
as far as i have tried the t-zones or t-web plan will not work, i had to finally ditch mine after 7 years, i did call t-mobile and asked to speak to a loyalty rep. which i then explained that i was not going to pay more than 20 for a plan with a new 2 year upgrade, which did not take to much convincing they gave me the unlimited Android data plan for 20 bucks a month. Trust me i did not want to let go of my 9.99 plan which worked great with my HD2 with 3g speeds, but for an extra 10 bucks a month its worth not having to worry about will it work and trying to find the right settings.
Yeah, I'm sure I'm going to have to buckle as well. Going to flash the CM build that was just released. After that, go the loyalty route I guess.
Oh, and...
GO POKES!
So can anyone confirm you have to upgrade from the g1 plan to take advantage of 4h data speeds?

That is just a name change - has no effect on speeds.
Still on my "Android Unlimited" for $25 (after changing from "G1 Plan" for VVM).

Which is great, but if one day you need it, they don't have a contact number/e-mail listed on their website and T-Mobile can't help you.
Well, I added the "data throttling removal" patch because at least a few of the posts sounded as if by using this Paul O'Brien patch they circumnavigated the need to change plans. Alas, to no avail, although now, I shouldn't have to worry about data throttling should I downgrade to the (limited) unlimited plan.
It appears than my Holy Grail continues to elude me! At this point, I would even just accept some Knights who say "NI!" I'd trade a shrubbery for a resolution...

[Q] Wifi Calling during Int'l Trip?

I'm going to Europe for a few weeks this next month, and I'd like to figure out a way to make wifi calling on my Verizon M8. Google Voice doesn't seem like it's up for the job. Then there's UppTalk?
I dunno. I'm completely in the dark when it comes to the whole spectrum of VoIP/Wifi Calling on mobiles. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
All the "free" VoIP apps I have tried are either buggy or annoying.
I would use Skype. 2.3 c/minute + 5 c connection fee... I doubt you find something better.
http://www.skype.com/en/rates/
Yeah, that's what I figured as well. These 3rd party apps seem sketchy at best.
