Hi,
I wonder if it is possible to write a program for our HD2 which would emulate a D-PAD in following way:
a) thumb finger would stand in position and other one would go from right to left = D-PAD left,
b) thumb finger would stand in position and other one would go from left to right = D-PAD right,
c) thumb finger would stand in position and other one would go from top to down = D-PAD down,
d) thumb finger would stand in position and other one would go from down to top = D-PAD top.
Sorry for my English ... I hope you understood the idea.
What do you think about it? Is anyone able to write a program for something like this?

Something along these lines may have already been created, but I havent been able to find it. Shell software, and touch flo is all very good for using our phones without a stylus, but we all know that at some point we are going to have to use a piece of wm software, and out the stylus comes.
What I am proposing is a virtual mouse cursor. I came across Innovisoft Virtuamouse, which is controled by the d-pad, but why not have a cursor about 50*50 pixels, which can be moved by finger.
In my paint mockup picture, the red circle would be where you touch to drag the cursor, and the tip is the active point where the stylus would tap. It would be moved by dragging, and a stylus tap would be signified by removing and replacing the finger within 200ms, like a laptop touchpad.
This cursor would probably be turned on and off by a hardware button.
Unfortunately I am not a developer, so this would have to be a project for someone else, but I'm sure people would be willing to contribute.
Since the Diamond having multi-touch seems to be comfirmed (link below), I would bet that one of the first things we see from deevelopers is just this idea. Using the touch-sensitive part of the area around the action button as a trackpad and clicking with a button press.

Seems like a good idea, but I do have to question this a bit. You want to use a touch controlled mouse to tap a button? It seems like a bit more work to do. Also, your picture is a smartphone....
The idea is to use the mouse to press the odd, fiddely button, not for constant use.
As for that being a smartphone screen, that was an overlook on my part - I just grabbed the first screen capture off google images.
I think it would be useful for web browsing.

Hi
I've been using HD2's Default Keyboard and Compact Keyboard and find it annoying with it's accuracy problem, but I have a idea that make it more accurate but a little of typing speed sacrefice
my idea is dynamic button domain, it means that when a letter on the soft keyboard is pressed, it's press domain expands so if the finger ( thumb most of the times ) moves a little to other sides, the letter does not change by that little move that is natural.
for example, when you want to press letter "D", you press it but because you pressed it by thumb, the thumb by a little move can go on to S, F, E, R or X that make the mistake. but with this idea, when "D" is pressed, it's activate domain area of "D" expands and by a little move of the thumb, no problem will be made.
I want to share this idea for if a programmer for win mo read it and found it interesting, code it and make a keyboard that is beautiful like HTC's and functional.
thanks
PS: I used BsB Tweak 1.6 for reducing screen sens and increased the tap time, but it's not still good
+1
ive had the same prob. it happens a lot when i play around with my dog. i wonder if the static causes some prob or anything. i dont know.
Just "type" and do not look at the keyboard, which works very fine Just hit it for a short moment and you shouldn't suffer from that problem
I am quite convinced now that the default keyboard in hd2 is crap:
- when i press on a letter my finger would cover the letter and all the surroundings
- YES the letter i press do get zoomed, but it does under my finger :-( so the zommed letter is still covered with my finger
- i can never tell if i hit the right letter until i take my finger off, and that's exactly when i start to **** on the keyboard
why can't this keyboard just show me the zoomed letter on top, like all other decent keyboards, like iphone's or resco's.
can anyone post a registry tweak or something to place the zommed letter in the middle of the screen or just above the letter, not below?
I've tried 2-3 different keyboards, and I cannot figure out how to select a word from the middle of sentence, or place the cursor there if I need to. For example in this short paragraph, if I need to click after the word and above, I just can't figure out how to do it.
Feelin' kinda dense
Most phones have a dpad, but since the Captivate doesn't it's a little harder. On the Swype keyboard, you can swipe from the Swype key (the little squiggle with the i on top) to the "sym" key.
That opens up another page of keys with arrow buttons on it. Android really needs to do something about text input soon, it can be a pain.
Use your finger to tap on the screen.
Of course that's the first thing I tried. Maybe I just need to lear to have the touch.
So basically i have been trying to find a good controller from my android to my PC, i cant even find one with two joysticks.
anyway my main question is. Is there a virtual controller for android that uses motion patterns instead of a virtual buttons, for example if i swipe in a half circle clockwise it is the x button or if i swipe to the left on the left side its the square button. instead of always accidentally miss hitting a button or excreta. dont know if this would really work either but in theory it seams like it would.
