Hi
I've posted in the HD2 forum but had no luck getting to the bottom of the issue so thought I'd see if anyone in here can help!
Up until last week I was able to sync my work emails to my iPhone and new HD2. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. I have tried deleting the accounts and setting them back up again but I get the "Exchange account verification failed" message. I have also attempted to set up the accounts on other phones with no luck so I have ruled out hardware as the issue.
My IT department at work are unwilling to offer ANY assistance as they only support blackberries but they did confirm that no changes were made to my exchange account settings.
I am still able to access my companies OWA site through mvi.xxxxx.net with no issue.
Given the fact that my IT department have not made any changes to my settings I can only assume that OMA is still enabled. I'm led to believe I should be able to check this by typing mvi.xxxxx.net/oma in a web browser and then logging in but I just get "page not found". Our OWA access address is quite different to others I have seen, is there a different test I can carry out to check if OMA is enable bearing in mind that my IT department are refusing to look at any settings for me?!
Also, I know that OMA is still working on at least some of my colleagues accounts as I have been able to set their accounts up on my phone. Therefore, I can't understand why the mvi.xxxxx.net/oma check won't work. Are there any other checks I can carryout?
Is there anything else that could be causing the failed verification of my account?
I've had no isses syncing with my work account for over 18 months and I am now seriously struggling to ascertain what the issue is and its driving me insane!
Any assistance anyonce can offer would be much appreciated.
Many Thanks

Hi everyone, I hope this question hasn't been asked before (I couldn't find anything, but I'd be surprised if I were the only person with this problem).
I just got a Nexus S (not rooted or anything yet) and a friend wanted to check his email on it, but the Gmail website doesn't seem to work unless I'm on wifi (It finishes loading very quickly and all I get is a blank white page - no error message or anything). I tried going to the site directly (wwwDOTgmailDOTcom, gmailDOTcom - same problem) and accessing it through a google search (gmail, gmail login, gmail mobile, etc.), but no dice. It works fine on wifi. Is there a way to get it to work, or has anyone else had this problem? I have Java, flash, and plugins all enabled in my settings, and everything else seems to be working great both on 3G and wifi.
If that doesnt work, does anyone know if it requires a lot of data to temporarily sync someone's account to my email app and then remove the email account when they're done? I had to do that to get my friend's account to work, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time if that's what I need to do for a friend to check their email on my phone.
Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out. I know it seems like a dumb question, but I'm new to Android and couldn't find anything in any of the settings menus. I assume it's because Google wants you to set up accounts for syncing, but in this case it's just for people who want to log in quickly and check their email.
(sort of a bump)
Since nobody seems to know what my problem is, could someone please check if they have any difficulties logging into gmail's website on 3G (NOT wifi) and let me know if it works? I haven't rooted or anything, so it would still help me know if it's a phone problem or something with my settings. Thanks.
i have same problem
No gmail and no downloads from google market app on 3G. All work fine through WIFI. (Droid 2 from Verizon, now using on other network).
Hi
My Htc Pro 7 (one week old) seems to pretend that it is syncing. It only takes 2 to 3 seconds over Wifi but it doesn't bother downloading new messages.
My (only) email account on the phone is a Blueyonder account (powered by Google). The initial set up went off and collected the account info.
I have turned off SSL and deleted the port numbers from the SMTP and POP settings.
Reentering the username and password convinced it to download the rest of yesterdays emails but not the test one I just sent myself or the others that are on the server.
Outllok 2007 is set to leave copies on the server for 10 days and over the years WM and Symbian handsets have not experienced this problem.
Any suggestions?
Tnx
Since re-entering the username password- the phone is set to look every 15 minutes and ever hour or so it seems to go off- ask if there are any new messages and then download the odd one without bothering to do download the rest...
Am I really the only person who has a mailbox that is at least a day behind???
I guess I am going to have to reset the phone, and lose all my texts etc.
Nice one MuppetSoft!!! By removing our rights to tweak things you have also prevented us from fixing things ourself. Please stop trying to be Apple.
Sometimes the same thing would happen when I hard reset my phone and set up my Hotmail account for the first time. E-mails don't download even though I can clearly see them on my PC. After a couple hours though, it fixes itself and my e-mails appear regularly, and at times, I get alerts to my phone even faster than I would on my computer.
Maybe give it a jump start by using your phone to compose, send, deleted, etc. Otherwise if it still isn't working, then it may be bugged and a hard reset may be in your future.
Thanks for the reply prjkthack
I can send emails without any problems. I have only had the phone just over a week and I am pretty sure that on day one it was working properly. I only noticed the issue a couple of days after the Nodo update- not sure if there is a relation or not.
I guess I will have to wait until i have a day off work before i can prepare for a hard reset. Being undiciplined i tend to leave client contact details in the form of text messages, rather than saving them to contacts.
odder and odder....
it has finally managed to catch up and is now up to date.
I have not made any changes/restores.
Lets hope it stays that way.
Now all I need is my Dev account to be approved so that I can play with mango.
Just bumping my own thread.
The problem returned.
UNTIL I remembered that my Virgin (blueyonder) email account (powered by Google) needs to be in the following format recent:[email protected]
I am such a wanker and should have remembered sooner!!!!
I guess it is a timeout issue, ordinarily the email client asks the server if there are any messages- the server responds "sure about 10000", the email client says "sod that, I'm not cross referencing your list with the ones i am already aware of -I'm off".
With the addition of recent: it only asks for the emails received in the last week or two.
Hopefully the above will be of help to someone else in the near future
Anyone able to use the stock email app without any problems? I can't access my work email with the stock app. I downloaded touchdown and it works without any problems, currently using the trial, $20 not worth it IMO.
No, i have no issues with Exchange using the stock app. I connect to Exchange 2003 so I can't speak for newer versions of Exchange. Do you get any error messages?
I get a cannot connect to server message. It's not a connection issue though, if I type my password wrong, I'll get a incorrect password message.

Hmm, so you have the correct domain\username, correct mail server, checked ssl settings, and you get the same message? The problem could be on the server end. Can other android users connect to your company's exchange?
Also, if Touchdown is too pricey, you can try Enhanced Email, i've used it before and it works really well. The only downside is that it's not great with your battery.
Yes other android users are able to connect. I'm also able to connect on my girlfriends Mytouch 4G.
Are you running a ROM? If not, the only thing i can think of that might work is doing a factory reset. I had a problem connecting once but it was due to a bad flash. Did you already clear cache and data from the stock email app?
Some ROMs
Some ROMs have a working email client for my corporate email, some don't. I ahd not luck with Weapon g2x, but Trigger worked, for example. Also the nighlies I used (up to 104) worked, but miui doesn't seem to work.
My advice is try ROMs until you find one that works and report the bug onthe forums if you notice problems.
So far I've tried:
Stock 2.2
Stock 2.3
Weapon G2x
Latest CM7 nightly 119
All have the same problem. Could this be a hardware problem? It's weird, why does touchdown work without any problems?
Miui
I am using the latest Miui and it seems to work with exchange. OTOH, I was able to get several of the nightlies to work with my exchange server too.
LG G2X Corporate Email (Microsoft Exchange) Connection Problem
My phone is a T-Mobile LG G2x (LGP999) running Android 2.3.3 (latest version is updated); using Microsoft Outlook 2007 (not sure what version of Microsoft Exchange is being used)
When I try to setup a corporate email (Microsoft Exchange) on my LG G2x (P999), I am receiving an error message that states: "This server requires security features your phone does not support". The steps are as follows:
1.) Go to the Email application from the main menu.
2.) Select MS Exchange.
3.) Set up email: Type your full email address and password.
4.) Server Settings: Type Domain\Username; Password; Server; Select check boxes “Use secure connection (SSL)” and optional “Accept all SSL certificates” when first box is selected.
5.) Account Options: Select how often you want your mail to arrive and your notification preference.
6.) Type a name for your account.
I am getting hung up on step #4 (Server Settings). I am 100% certain my domain\username and server address are correct but when I click “Next” to proceed to the next step I get the message "This server requires security features your phone does not support".
For a test, my colleague entered his information on steps 1-4 into my phone and proceeded to step 5 immediately (Account Options). This problem happened to one other individual and he had to purchase a new phone to correct the problem (a Samsung). The problem seems to be around the phone or mail-server but I am out of options. Is there some setting to get it to work?
Another test I performed, I successfully logged onto my friends phone with my account settings and managed to pull up my calendar / email. He was using a Motorolla phone that used Android 2.2 (an older version than I am using).
Other Notes:
A.) I can log into my webmail but this feature does not sync my calendar or give me instant email notifications. My email in Microsoft Outlook is working as well.
B.) My username and password combination is definitely not the problem. I tried typing in a different password and it gives me a different error (username/password entered is incorrect).
C.) I tried using “/” and “\” in the Domain\Username section. I also tried checking and un-checking the SSL options. I tried other servers available on-site (01 and 02 versions).
D.) My work technical support insists there is nothing different about my security settings but unfortunately since it is a personal device they won’t offer any real support. They blame the phone or T-mobile. T-mobile blames the phone or the server. LG blames T-mobile or the server. See my problem?
E.) I had a work phone recently that was taken away due to budget cuts so I know it is possible to get my email / calendar with an i-phone (3GS).
F.) I also tried using “Other” on step #2 and entering the information manually (selecting exchange since it is not a “Pop” server). I still get the same message.
G.) I rebooted the phone and even pulled the battery and restarted.
H.) I can connect to my work wi-fi. I activated the wi-fi and tried to enter in all the server information but it still gave me the same error with wi-fi enabled.
I.) I have setup my home email account but could not do it from the “Other” option in Step #2. (sbcglobal.net and a yahoo mail both required the yahoo app to work). I also got the g-mail account to work through the “g-mail” app.
J.) It is a brand new phone purchased yesterday 12/13/11 (i.e. factory reset seems pointless and not attempted).
Is there some phone setting I am missing? Any help on this matter or another method to sync my calender / work emails to my phone will be appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance
I don't believe Android currently supports some features of Microsoft Exchange yet because of security permissions. There is an app in the market that bypasses those checks but it's risky, because if your phone ever gets stolen and your work needs to wipe it, they can't and you may get in trouble for breaking policy. For the most part though, they wont know. I'll search for it for you but I don't remember the name.
EDIT: Sorry didn't read all the thread My browser pulled me to the last post of the thread and I thought it was OP haha
Still though, it could just be security restrictions stopping you like I said.

It's weird that you tried CM7 and it didn't work. The stock rom has an older email.apk that is not compatible with the newer versions of Exchange and some security policies but CM7 should not have that problem.
what settings are you using?
I've used both Touchdown and the default Android email client at work without a problem, but your Exchange server must fully support ActiveSync. I would ask your IT support or server admin to help you out.
BTW, while Touchdown may seem pricey, it just works. I use it daily and would recommend it to anyone wanting to connect to Exchange servers. I tried other solutions but always went back to Touchdown. Their support service is top notch.
The only problem I have is that once in a while the email app will delete my account. It only happens to exchange, my pop 3 accounts stay there.
Edit: Of course, as soon as I say this I have a problem connecting I changed my password at work and when I tried to change it on my phone it would not work. I removed the account and added it but still nothing. I wiped the cache and davlik cache and added the account, great success.
So I enabled 2-step verification on my gmail, and after doing so my gmail accounts on the phone stopped working.
I read that I needed to create application specific passwords in this case, so I did it.
After inputting these passwords (I have 2 separate Gmail accounts), I started receiving mail successfully (it gets pushed and I get the new mail notification). However, I am berated with notifications that there is a sign-in error. Clearing these only lasts for a couple of minutes before they come back.
How can I get the phone to stop thinking it's having a sign-in error? I have searched and this doesn't seem to be a common problem (I'm guessing because not that many people are using 2-step verification?).
I even tried completely removing the accounts and starting over from scratch with new application-specific passwords. No dice - still getting sign-in errors.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I was able to fix the problem (I think). Here's how I did it:
1) Remove all gmail accounts from phone
2) Re-add account(s) to the phone using a newly created application-specific password titled 'Droid Charge'
3) When the error arises, create another application-specific password titled 'Droid Charge #2' and use that
Should get rid of it. Don't know why it requires two separate passwords, but since doing this I have stopped receiving the error.
I can't say that this will work on GB, because I've only tried it on ICS, but did you try just putting in your regular password? At least on ICS and later, when you do that it will redirect you to a webpage that asks for your authorization code, and then does the normal token exchange and pairs to your account.

Yes, I had tried that. Unfortunately GB falls under the 'older phones' bracket, and it's not smart enough to redirect.
I have been using the Gmail Exchange Account for a few days happily (Android L stock). But now I constantly get the option to update my security which is basically encrypting my phone. But after the restart this message comes up again with only option to update again. In the meantime no mail is synced. I have already removed and re-installed my echange account numerous times but not helping. Alternative app Mail Wise is giving the same problem. With Touchdown everything is working but I don't like the battery usage and most import the seperate password entry when entering the app. Did anybody else experience this security update loop?
Maybe I have solved the problem myself. What seemed to happen is that my companies security policy demands a certain type of password. Since I already had installed an exchange account before my password on my phone was already compliant. Therefore I did not need to change anything on my security after I setup my Exchange account on my phone. So what I did is disable password lock on my phone, setup my exchange account and entered a compliant password.

Every two or three days same problem returns. Gmail tells me to do a security update. After a lot of trying I get it working again but if this returns constantly it is quite frustrating. Anybody else with same experiences?
Solution given
Somebody on another site pointed me to the solution which can be found at:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79342#c18
As it seems a pin/password is required for startup as well, not only for unlocking the device.
