Ok, now that more people are starting to actually have a Fuze in hand, I was wondering has anyone trying slinging to it? It's one of the main reasons I wanted a Fuze. Share your experiences.

Yes, works great on wifi and 3G connections... On 3G I get about 470kbps tops in my area.

That's great news! I think I remember you saying in a previous thread that you wanted to watch the Mets games. Was that your primary usage or did you watch other things as well?

I never got to watch any, when I had the Fuze I just tested SlingPlayer Mobile on it with someone else's SlingBox to see how it worked. I watched some baseball, cartoons, news, movies, whatever was on. Later on, after I sold the Fuze, I ended up getting one for myself.

I guess you must've been impressed enough by it to pick up one for yourself. In the small amount of time you were using it, do you know if slinging put more drain on the battery?
you're streaming via 3g the whole time in addition to using processing power and keeping the backlight on, so yeah, there's gonna be significant battery drain

I thought as much. I guess I could always plug it into the wall charger while slinging.
Really couldn't say when it comes to battery life... I did most of my slinging on wifi while it was plugged into the wall, i used the TV-out to put it on my TV.

or get an extra battery like i'm planning to
yeah slinging on any device does put a quick drain on the battery in 3g id say an hour would knock you down probably around 40-50 percent (i say this as when i play videos using my bluetooth headset it knocks off 30-40 percent in about an hour.
Very rough estimate, just make sure u have a spare batt or car charger
Alot of people I know put their phones on airplane mode when they're not using it (School, Work, ect.) but I know a lot of people do stuff because they assume it or they see someone who does it, and they never really know.. So I figured I asked the pros. Does putting your phone on airplane mode really save power? If so does anyone know about how much, any numbers?

It saves a bunch of battery. The radios all get turned off and they suck up a lot of the power... I don't have numbers for ya but you should try it. Just know you (obviously) can't get texts, calls...etc.

Okay, I'll try it.. my only thing now is remembering to turn it off after school and such. Thanks though.
Like dwizzy130 said, it will save a lot of power (no radios, data, etc.).
Powering it off will even save more

not a helpful post i know, but the above did make me snigger lol
Actually, in my experience it makes no difference, as far as I can tell. Disclaimer: I don't have a data plan, and I just get EDGE connections on my T-mobile-Fuze. You can measure you current with TBattery (and log it) or Battlogger, and I've never seen a lick of difference doing something like listen to music or read a book with the radio on vs. off. It may make a difference when the phone is asleep, but you can't run TBattery then (it makes no difference if the screen is just turned off). But, a 3G connection may give different results. I recommend logging your power output to see if it matters or not.
I still turn the radio off a lot. I hate getting phone calls, lol.
Radio usage
I thought I would offer my opinion on this. Although the radio does obviously use more power in order to transmit signal to a tower, today's technology is quite low wattage. The power consumption may be so negligable as compared to the power used by the rest of your phone (the lcd or lcd's the backlight, the keypad backlight etc. The combined power consumption of all of those would probably make the additional consumption of a radio quite insignificant. As you know, your phone may stay on, with the radio on, and can go two or three days without a charge (on standby). but if you constantly check your sms inbox, flick through your pictures, and play some music, then the least of your worries is how much power the little nano watt radio is drawing. It is all relative.
However, one thing is for sure. If you turn the phone off completely, you will save an infinite amount of power

Hi bro, always good to cross virtual paths in xda space!
Take care out there...
Looks pretty interesting to say the least i wonder if it'll make much of a difference
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/17/powerskin-battery-case-pumps-juice-to-htc-inspire-4g-desire-hd/
Iphone users complain about it not functioning properly by charging the battery even if users have not pressed the button yet, sometimes it also does not work even if the button is pressed.
It will also add bulk to the DHD... lets see what surprises it brings though.
mugen ftw ;
does any one try this thing ?
It works pretty good for me. I only used only once when i was on car trip. The downside is just that it makes the big phone twice as big!
I dont think thats gonna help improve battery life, common u guys, look at that thing...its ridiculous
looks ok to me, but not avalible in uk
anyways, @ roboMr.Burns can you tell me if it still gives access to the headphone socket?, ive looked on thier website and it says nothing about that, and looking at the case it appears to cover it - deal breaker for me tbh if thats the case (no pun intended).
how is it meant to work?
why dont install a good custom rom for example leedroid no probs with the battery

I believe there's a cable-end sticking out similar to your USB-charger that goes into your phone. Then you click the button on the back of the case and it will start drain power from the battery that is inside the case!
Correct me if im wrong.
I think it makes phone to big :-/

The case is a battery itself. It has a usb that connects to the DHD and there is a button on the side that you press to charge the device.
Hi guys,
I've a question I cannot properly answer by myself. I've searched the web but I didn't find an exhaustive answer.
I wanna use my Nexus S as WiFi router during holiday, for about one month, several hours a day. I'm concerned to possible damage that this could cause to my phone, especially due to overheating and fast battery drain.
When I tested WiFi tethering I noticed, obviously, overheating and also battery drain.
Since the phone will be probably connected to wall charger while tethering (that causes overheating itself), could the excessive heat damage something, somehow? I think I'll underclock to embank it a little, but I'm still worried..
And also the continue charghing of the battery, beside overheat, could really damage it ? :silly:

The battery may be degraded a little bit as a result of overheating. As for the rest of the hardware, I'm not sure what the effect is on that, shouldn't be a real issue I guess. You can try to cool your phone with an icepack underneath it or something? But why not just take a wifi router with you? or make us of Ad-hoc from the laptop?

Yes, I thought about cooling the phone somehow, but it sounds weird :silly: Anyway, I'm on linux and the driver (iwl4695) of the wifi card on my laptop doesn't support AP-mode ( I need to connect more than one device to it), so I cannot use that. I would do this to avoid buying a brand new device such a MiFi, but I'm not still sure, but maybe it will be the best choice, (apart from the 50€, obviously  )

They're not that expensive are they? Couple of years back bought a very cheap wifi router for 20 euros... still functioning :good:But good luck with your decision

Finally I opted for WiFi tethering. Battery is about 42-43 degrees, but it's fine for now. And it's also charging with USB, great. I'm posting this with my PC WiFi connected to the phone.
BTW, if phone will die for this, nevermind, it will be a good reason for switch to Galaxy Nexus :silly:
Anyway, thanks for help.:good:
I ìll leave this unsolved, because even if I solved my own situation, it will be interesting read experiences of users using their phones as router for extended period of time. I'll post my own experience after holiday.
ive been using wifi tet. while on my last holiday for about a week, few hrs a day, never got warm/hot when unplugged from charger, although when on charge and i was streaming videos from net , phone was warm..
if ur phone is really hot while using wifi tet, try to reflash ur rom.
I feel Verizon is either severely slacking on the update, or they are waiting to bundle it with any improvements they may have. All other main carriers have officially gotten their extreme power save update. Sprint, ATT, heck even T-Mo that was last in line to get the M8 has now pushed the update. Anyone know what might be the hold up or an estimation on when we are going to receive this for Verizon? Thanks!
We'll see it when Qualcomm submits a patch to prevent firewater from working. Only then will Verizon care to give us a meaningful update.

Matters not. Patch and OTA all you want. We're already S-Off and our fabulous devs here will rip out anything meaningful and post it within hours.
Super big Thank You to all the devs that support this phone!

Yeah, anyone who already ran S-Off is indeed safe. However they can effectively block new device users this way, and by golly they want to.

Isn't there already a working Extreme Power Saver mod available?
Also, from what I understand, EPS basically turns off everything and makes your M8 into a dumbphone...why would you want that? (And please let me know if I'm mistaken, that's just what I've heard it does, I've never seen it or installed it on my phone since I don't have battery issues.)

If you leave for an overnight/weekend trip, forgot your charger/charger broke, etc. You could put it into that mode and still get calls/texts. Without that you basically have to shut it off or go airplane mode and check it without knowing if you missed something.

Makes perfect sense. I've never found myself in that situation (at least not yet), but for people that do, I could see how it would be a useful feature.

Yesterday I took an extensive road trip where I knew I would both be unable to use the phone (while driving) and be nowhere near a charger (although I have a spare external battery for real emergencies). I decided to throw the device into extreme powersave mode. Did not discern a significant advantage over "regular" power saver mode, but at nearly 17 hours off charger (with some calls and texting, a little wifi out of the mode and a little data) I was down to about 25%. That works for me.

Depending on how much you were on the phone, that's not bad...for regular power mode. I would have thought the power savings would be significantly better.

I agree. In fact today I ran mostly on regular powersave mode and tonight I am at 70%. Frankly, I am starting to think that the extreme powersave mode as a mod is a placebo. Maybe something is missing.

It's basically just an "extreme" variant of the power saving mode, IMO. Basically just makes it so you are in a mode that limits use. I am sure this is basically the same as just not really using the phone or just using phone + message + email (basically what EPM allows) and having data off and or have wifi shut off with screen.
I agree though, I am not sure if this truly gives the hours that HTC claims it does, but I would like to start doing or see someone who has the time to make some logs and see the real life numbers.
I don't have exact figures, but in Extreme Power Save mode my M8 on average uses about 1% per hour to two hours. It is different from regular power save in that all background data and apps are disabled as opposed to just turning off data while the screen is off, lowering max brightness, and basically under-clocking the phone. Normal Power Save mode makes a big difference over normal function as well but I don't have any numbers on that right now.
