Buggy HTC Music Player in Sense!!! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi guys,
I got a Problem with the Musicplayer in htc sense, it is soo buggy when i want to scroll through all my titles, i think its because of the hundrets of Album thumnails it got to load. is there a way to deaktivate these??
Thanks for answers or reflections!

I have this problem aswell.

you didn't explain what this bug does..

if its the same im having;
At first, when in music tab, the volume button controls volume (as expected) but then after *something* happens, then suddenly it switches to being a previous/next song button, and requires a soft-reset to be fixed

+1 Its really annoying..

i read somewhere this no longer happens on 1.61, can any1 running that rom confirm it?

Hey guys, been lurking for a while, this is my first post.
I had major issues with my music player. I emailed HTC and they sent this response -
"Please factory reset the device again, and install the patches before restoring any data.
Please remove all media from the SD card and format it.
Please ensure you synchronise media to your SD card directly from Windows Media Player11 on your PC to ensure that files are converted correctly and test the device again."
Did this and hey presto, works fine now
May be worth a try, good luck!

Wow ! You may change your device also...

Have you tried to simply modify the mp3 tag (genre, tracknumber) according to my findings here?
See here
In my opinion, a lot, if not all, of Music Player issues are related to the way the music player handles the ID3 tag of your mp3.

o2 xda Orbit II.....AAC Files

Please could someone help or explain.I purchased the orbit II last week,I am still getting used to its power and capabilities.
In the manual it says it can play AAC files.I have downloaded some onto the storage card and the touch flo player hasnt recognised them, nor has the windows media player.
It recognises and plays MP3 files. The aac files are not protected they are ones that I downloaded myself from my own cds.
Also why can I not see photos that I have just taken that are saved to my storage card,in the photo viewer on Touch flo.
Thank you in advance for any help,
Peter
pocketmusic can play aac
Thansk for that, but I was looking to find out what the situation was with the phone rather than get a programme that will do something that the manufacturers are saying the phone should do.
I have noticed that the windows media player does add the tunes to its catalogue but files them under ARTIST "UNKNOWN" (as though the tags arent working). The touch flo or HTC player however doesnt even do this.
Does anybody know of a solution to this other than spending money on a progamme to do something that the phone should do already,
many thanks

It's really wierd. I have the same problem and also had this problem with my previous phone which was an O2 XDA Orbit 1 (i.e. rebranded HTC Artemis).
I'm afraid that I never found a solution that didn't involve third party software. I think the problem is that, although HTC have included the decoder to play AAC and AAC+ files, neither of the built in players seem to be able to read the tags from the m4a container format so, although they can play the contents, they can't incorporate the tracks in a meaningful way into the library (I also saw Windows Media Player putting everything as unknown).
I know it's not what you were hoping to hear, and I'd love for someone to prove me wrong, but right now I think you're stuck with going the third-party route.
If you don't want to spend money then I initially used TCPMP. It doesn't have any library browser built in but I found that by intelligent choice of the directory tree structure I used to store my files (My Music/<Artist>/<Album>/<Tracks>) then I could use the file browser in TCPMP to browse my collection in a fairly convenient manner. I now use Conduits PocketPlayer because that has a fantastic library browser and reads the m4a tags perfectly; the program is pretty resource hungry but for now I'm keeping the faith in the hope that they'll address that at some point in the future (their support is good).

Thanks Julian at least I know its a common problem(does 2 handsets constitute common).
I will look into pocketplayer as a solution for the timebeing.I was hoping I wouldnt have to put other apps on that would slow the phone down.
Thanks again

You're welcome.
In most cases putting other apps on shouldn't slow down the phone. The reason apps can slow down the phone (and/or drain battery) can be because they have a Today plugin which, if not well written or if it needs to keep accessing the network, can slow things down. If an app does have a Today plugin (as PocketPlayer does) then you can often disable it (as you can for PocketPlayer).
The other reason for third party apps to slow down the phone is because Windows Mobile default behaviour when you click the top-right "x" button is to minimise the app (i.e. leave it running in the background) rather than close it down completely. Again, in this case an app that does anything significant when it is running in the background can slow down the phone. Clearly a music player needs to keep running while it is playing music but, once finished, you can make sure it is out of memory completely by selecting Exit from the application's menu.
In short, if you're careful to fully close apps when you don't need them, then you shouldn't slow down your phone at all (except so far as having a music player running in the background, whether built in or third party, will always put a drain on the CPU and make other apps run more slowly while the music is playing).

Oops. One big thing I forgot to mention. If you do look at PocketPlayer then don't download the latest version (3.51) from their web site. There is a nasty problem in that build specifically related to playing AAC files on HTC devices that I reported to them and has been fixed in an internal beta for 3.52 which, as the reporter of the bug, I have been given to test. You should email [email protected] and say that you want to use it for AAC on an HTC device and hopefully they (Carrie) will let you try out a beta build with the issue fixed.
The issue by the way is that 3.51 doesn't correctly detect end-of-stream when an AAC track has finished so (a) it doesn't auto-advance to the next track in the playlist because it thinks the current track hasn't finished yet and (b) even worse, if you forget to explicitly turn off your device after you've finished listening then PocketPlayer thinks it is still playing your last track and so the device will not put itself into standby and can drain the battery. The issue is fixed in the latest beta build and as an added bonus it also parses m4a tags natively (in 3.51 you could tag your collection by using an option in PocketPlayer to infer the tags from the filenames used in your folder structure but it now reads the real tags in the latest beta).
There is also one other more obscure problem I'm trying to help them diagnose related to AAC on HTC devices but I've been a bit busy recently so am due to give them some feedback and check status on that today or tomorrow. This may or may not be fixed at this stage, I can probably give more feedback in a couple of days so personally I would hold off until I give you an update. If you definitely want to go ahead with a beta build then I can give you a workaround that works most of the time.

I emailed them this afternoon and got the answer. They've fixed the problem and I'm about to install a new beta to check it's OK. Apparently it was a Windows Mobile bug that they've managed to work around. I'll play with this new update pretty extensively tomorrow so you should get an answer from me in about 24 hours.

I found out some interesting thing: Some files are playing correctly but others refuse to work. I think that has to do with the bitrate of the files. All my m4a-files are bought from Apple Music Store. Most times my files are the unprotected ones with higher bitrate, but I have a few files which were protected (unfortunately I must have lost the copy protection somewhere, I'm really sorry for that ). The protected ones were encoded in a lower bitrate. What I found out is, that all my former protected files are played correctly. So maybe Windows Media Player can only handle files up to certain bitrate which obviously should be lower than 256kbps.
Further test: I created a playlist within windows mobile, but the Audio Manager (Touch Flo) wasn't able to read it. I managed that the playlist was recognized by the program, but it couldn't find any files.
So it is possible to play aac files (up to a certain bitrate) and to create playlists in Windows Media Player without any issues (yet). But I couldn't get it working in TouchFlo.
So, ok, I made half the way. Now it's up to you to make it fully functional.
have the same issue, I see the AAC file in the explorer and can play them from there but they are not loaded in the catalogue. anybody any other idea how to make the visible there? is buying pocket player the only solution?
thanks for the help in advance to everybody

The news isn't as positive as I'd hoped. The latest build has improved the problem (so at least they've identified it and found the right area to make changes) but it hasn't fixed it completely.
The player is still usable with AAC files but there is one glitch. After it's been playing for a while, say about 2 hours, then something seems to get corrupted in the image or via a bug in Windows Mobile itself such that thumbnails of the artwork for the album covers no longer display properly when browsing your music library. With the previous build the device would lock up at this point and require a soft reset so at least they've fixed that problem but there is still some sort of issue unresolved.
The workaround seems to be to just fully exit PocketPlayer every couple of hours and then re-launch it again so it's not too arduous and shouldn't prevent you playing with the trial version (although this partially-fixed beta isn't publicly available so you will need to contact support to see if they'll give it to you and given that it still has a known issue they might just ask you to wait a bit).
I'm obviously still working with them to try and 100% nail this issue.

Touch Pro 2 with stock 6.1 rom will not play my wmas from storage card

Does anyone else have this problem? It is driving me crazy. The well-intentioned, but clueless folks at the Sprint store cannot figure it out, nor does the HTC tech on phone or chat have a clue. Seems to me that a device as otherwise good as this should be able to use a 16G SanDiskmicroSDHC with no problem. The HTC guy said it was not a compatible type of card! What logic is that? Have micro SD slot and not be able to load a HC micro SD for lots of music or whatever?

Can't find music on storage card
Hey!
I am using the native HTC Touch Flo 3D music app. I can use wm player, but I want the Touch Flo to perform as it should.
can it play the files off the internal storage? its possible HTC left out wma support since its a proprietary format from MS (i dont know what MS's policy toward playback is)
also, there are at least 4 kinds of files that end in .wma, i know a lot of players have trouble with the lossless ones
It does work
I use the built in music player Touch Flo music player. It plays all my music from my 16g chip no problems.
I first played them with WM Media player and loaded them into the library,
closed it then started the Fouch Flo music player.
Works great !!
Try it if it doesnt work for you I can test whatever your having an issue with.
Are the WMAs DRM protected purchased audio, or rips?

Thanks! I have already tried to update library command, which goes through the motions os showing the number of files updated or whatever, then I close it and go to HTC's native music player and nada. So strange. I even do a soft reset in between doing the above. Any other thoughts?

Hello, and thanks for responding. I will do what you suggest, however I find it truly amazing that a wma file, spawned by that great Windows creator Microsoft, will not play in their 6.1 Windows Mobile device; if only for very uneven and quirky playback. I mean, I can get a particular CD to show and I can arrow up or down to get to the various songs and then press the triangle play key and the CD will play the songs in sequential order. Like it is suppose to. However, the rest of the library will not show no matter what I do. Another person in this forum said he had been having no issues at all with the (presumably) same Sprint Touch Pro 2 CDMA running the same wm 6.1... using a 16G (like me) SDHC...What up with this?
It sounds like you are browsing to a specific artist and expecting others to show as well. Try browsing out to all your music. In the TF3d player click the left soft key (Library). Scroll across to the music note tab (All Music). In WMP, click the right soft key menu > Library. Then click the drop down arrow at the top and browse to your storage card. Library > My Music > All Music.

Resetting Sense Music Player - 6.5.x ROMs

There seems to be a universal problem with most of the newer 6.5.x roms with the Sense music player. The problem it seems that the internal sense music database becomes corrupt. Example follows;
1) On a clean build (recently flashed or hard reset) - with some music on your SD card, open the music tab.The screen will show 'Searching...'.
2) After some time it will display the albums/songs/etc. Normal. Good.
3) Now plug the device back into USB, wait a little time, then disconnect USB.
4) Goto music tab, device shows 'Searching...' but now gets stuck forever there. You now lose the music player - totally useless.
Does anyone know where sense stores it's music database...is there a file we can delete (like Windows Media player database file you can delete and recreate) ? I tried deleting the Windoes Media database file but that doesnt help. Thanks.
** NOTE - Dutty's latest HG 6.5.x builds are the only ones I found so far that this works (but sense is still very slow to scan if you have over 100 songs on your SD card). **

Thanks - might try that next time. Still sucks to have to do this every time you connect your device to USB.
Code:
\Application Data\HTC\AudioManager_Eng\AudioManager_eng.vol
To delete it: rename, reboot Manila, delete the one you renamed.
It will be automatically regenerated, and you will be left with a faster, less corrupt music tab.
fowl2 - thanks I will try that also.
Does anyone know what that little 'spinning wheel' icon means in the top left. It's next to an icon to update album art and seems to randomly spin from time to time. I thought it may have meant it is updating the album art for the current song, but this thing spins randomly, even if the current song already has album art ?

hi, I encountered some problem with the media player in sense after i tried to syn the lib with my notebook. now i cannot play the player from sense. gives me some error. i did a hard rest and still cud not resolve the prob.
before i try your method, i would like to clarify :
1. i rename the file AudioManager_eng.vol - as in i dun have to backup this file
2. reboot Manila - as in reboot the phone
3. delete the file the I renamed after I've rebooted the phone
the music tab will be automatically regenerated when i go to the media play in sense ?
Thanks
I gave up on the Sense player - it's so embarrasingly unstable and slow compared to S2P. I can't recommend that enough.

Try converting ALL your mp3 files to wma format. I solved in this way. take a look to my thread with a very similar problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640948
Thanks everyone for the replies.
In the end, I disabled the sense media player
cadorna, I will read thru the thread when i have the time. Thanks
i changed the media file to wav. all is good now
the easiest way is to kill the audiomanager process with some task manager and then run the sense audio manager.
corrupt mp3's can cause this issue....
re-format sdcard would be the next step...

[Q] Stock mp3 Player reverses song order in Playlists - Ideas?

Hey guys,
I've got an odd problem with samsung stock music player on my note 10.1.
Every playlist I add to the device is (dis)played upside down. At first i suspected isyncr, which i use to sync my Itunes with the note, to be the problem - but it turned out it is not.
I already did the following:
checked the m3u playlist isyncr generates with a text editor - everything fine
cleared data of stock music player
cleared data of "media storage"
created a playlist with a 3rd party player (amazon) => reverse order in samsung player, correct order in poweramp, player pro
created a playlist with samsung player => reverse order in 3rd party players (amazon, poweramp, player pro)
searched the internet and xda
asked samsung support for help - twice
Internet knows a similar problem with samsung fascinate without any solution, here on xda i found an old thread which i suspect describes the same problem on a different device (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404735), but also without a solution or idea.
I can hardly believe there is such a bug in the stock music app and hardly anyone steps into it. I also find it hard to believe that samsung had this bug in Fascinate's music player, fixed it in the Galaxy S2's (which i also own and doesn't have this problem), just to re-integrate it in the Note 10.1.
Samsung support is not able to give any qualified answers and rather tries to force me to use kies (which I even tried, but despite its poor performance cannot help me with this problem). I will, however, try to ask them a 3rd time.
The Problem existed in ICS ROM as well as in Jelly Bean, which arrived about 2 weeks ago (XXBLJ9).
Any Ideas what I could try next?
If you read this and don't know an answer either, you can still help me by verifying the problem on your note 10.1 - just create a playlist with for example amazon mp3 (playlist, not album) and open it with samsung stock music player. Would be great, thanks in advance!
Greetings,
Oliver
Okay...seems like nobody has an idea how to solve this...no problem.
You can, however, also help me by just trying it out, takes about 1 minute of your time...is nobody using the stock music player and any other player?
As Internet isn't full of complaints, i suspect that it could be a configuration specific problem with my note. I am willing to wipe it in that case, but as it is not rooted i've got to restore its current state manually after that - which might take some hours So I just want to make sure that there's a chance that wiping helps me with my problem.
Anyone? Can (or can't) you confirm my problem?
Thanks and Greetings,
Oliver

Hi,
I have had my Samsung Charge since it came out. That problem has always persisted on my device. I find it extremely frustrating as the point of a smart phone is that it is multiple devices. I would like this to be my main music player as well since it has an external 32gb SD card and so can hold quite a bit of music.
I am not a developer (I do do technical support), just decided I am trying to figure out - AGAIN - why it does this. I just downloaded a trial of PowerAmp. Don't know if this might help you figure out the problem. Power Amp shows my synced playlists from Windows Media Player not as a Playlist but as a music folder under folders. So far I have synced just one playlist as a test. In the folder in powerAmp, it is in the correct order. In the stock music player it is in reversed order.
I paused in typing, and after syncing multiple playlists at one shot, the list in Poweramp is garbled. The first try created a single folder with all the songs from the playlist in correct order. Now with the sync of multiple lists, I do have a couple like above but the rest either didn't come across or the music came across but not the playlist. The stock music player also has just some not all of the playlists I synced. The music is all in reverse order.
To me this suggest that problem is with the implementation of the sync on the device itself, given you have the same issue. My guess is it reads and writes the playlist from bottom up. I think there is also a burrering problem since it never seems to bring all my lists over and if that happens only some of the music.
Hope this helps, would like very much to know if you find a solution. Samsung is close to losing me as a customer over this. I care less about browsing and connectivity and more about multi functionality. A music player that works is important to me, and am considering an HTC or maybe even an IPhone (!!!) next time around just because of this - and my next upgrade is in 60 days. I HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS SAMSUNG!!!

Hi Oliver,
Just discovered that my Amazon MP3 cloud player has all my playlists I just synced (except one) and the songs are all in the correct order. This is confounding to me as I previously had the same reversed order issue in this player. Not sure if it has anything to do with the fact that I went into the file system dorectly and deleted all the contents from themusic related folders before doing the sync for that one then multiple lists. Not sure what happened with that one list, might be related to the fact that it is a custom CD mix ( old school club music, I need the beats for running!). Am going to try syncing that list as I really like the music that's on it. This would seem to contradict my thinking above though. Seems the issue is with the Samsung stock music itself, not the sync. HTC/Apple here I come...
Galaxy stock mp3 Player
I have Samsung Fascinate and it has the same problem with stock mp3 music player. Songs on playlist are reversed. I also tried a few other players but they are not convenient.
So as previous says we can use Amazon mp3 player and widget. It works good for me. It remembers when I paused and even after reboot. So decided use it. It doesn't interfere with other programs (I use in my car navigation app - Navigon). So its very convenient listen music and have navigation.

[Q] iSyncr not syncing playlists

Hi everyone!
For all iTunes users, i have my first android phone after depending for 3 years on my iPod, so I was using iSyncr to sync all my music and playlists to my phone (LG Optimus L9). It was working perfectly (I use PowerAmp to listen to my music) until the syncing of the playlists started to fail. I think it was after an iTunes update (but I'm not sure), I run iSyncr, select SD card as always and it starts working blah blah, the music syncs but when tries to sync the playlists it says something like this:
"Syncing Rock... Device couldn't update the playlist"
I don't know why it started to do this, I tried deleting the playlist from the SD and syncing a new playlist but it doesn't work either. It's so annoying because I depend a lot on my playlists, I have 16 gb of music and it's a mess if I don't have it ordered the way i like it xD
Anybody knows any solution to this?

Hi everyone!
For all iTunes users, i have my first android phone after depending for 3 years on my iPod, so I was using iSyncr to sync all my music and playlists to my phone (LG Optimus L9). It was working perfectly (I use PowerAmp to listen to my music) until the syncing of the playlists started to fail. I think it was after an iTunes update (but I'm not sure), I run iSyncr, select SD card as always and it starts working blah blah, the music syncs but when tries to sync the playlists it says something like this:

You may try refreshing the Android media storage on your device using this tutorial - http://www.jrtstudio.com/iSyncr/Tutorials/HowToRefreshAndroidMediaCache
If this doesn't work, try syncing to the internal storage and seeing if this is working properly. For more advanced help, please contact me at [email protected].

I tried refreshing the media storage and not only it didn't work, but iSyncr deleted all the playlists and then it couldn't transfer the new playlists, now I don't have any of them in my phone
I think I'll do a hard reset soon and see if that works, thanks anyway

I had the same issue at one point and found out that the problem was i had flashed a mod that also disabled the media scanner. I just used a media scanner trigger app from the market and problem fixed. What rom/mods are you running?

I don't have any roms or mods. The media scanner is working, or at least the icon appears, stays for a while and then dissapears.
Solved
Hello again, I finally did a hard reset and spent all afternoon installing the apps and cofiguring the phone and everything is working perfectly. I'm doing a backup now so I have somewhere to go back to if anything weird happens again xD
