HTC HD2 - weather update - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi all
Just wonder - where are settings for weather server kept in manilla? Is it possible to modify them, for example set different server? Thing is, phone works great, but gives me limited list of locations to choose. And strangely, my little town Corby, UK, is not on the list ;P (wonder why...)
Would it be possible to hook database to AccuWeather, or similar?
Cheers
Chris

That's because it gets confused by Scottish towns in the midlands of England. Use Kettering
Seriously though, Kettering ain't in there either, and I don't know how to add places that aren't. Northampton is the closest I can find for you.

corby is gray but now raining...yet.

Well, judging on what I found so far on other threads (like this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583445&highlight=weather ) this feature of HD2 does not perform too well. Even locations that are on list (like London) aren't automaticaly working as My Location.
Looks like another topic for update from HTC...

works great for me (im in the netherlands) both 'my location' and the two citys i visit most (haarlem & amsterdam) work as i would expect, if i had to complain about something it would be that if i update in the evening, and look at weather next morning, the picture stays beeing a moon...

My small village of Groombridge doesn't work either! I have to use T Wells... Am I right that it uses the mobile network to determine current location. At Gatwick last week, it said I was in the village of Horley.......

I have a HTC Hero as well. On that it works almost 90% of the time or just keeps the last location available if it can't find the present location. I think the way the Hero works is that it searches the closest town and then shows the weather for that even if it falls in another zone (or something like that). I think on the HD2, it is more specific. Living in London, it isn't easy to keep track when moving around as it will change quite often depending on where in london you are. However, there is still alot of improvements to be made on the HD2 in terms of the weather location app when compared to the Hero.

Worked perfectly in bristol since i have come back to london only found one place it works near where i live really annoying tbh.
I know that on manilla 2d all that had to be changed was the xml file for the accuweather database...
Also the location it updated to is not in the list of avaliable cities so GRR!

Weather update
Try searching for an app called 'weather city update' on the Leo Forum. It will allow you to add in any city you like. I've used it and added my home town of Kettering in there.

I've not tried it, but I did check the weather site, and Corby is on there, so you should be able to add it

It works a treat on HD2. Better than My Location.

I see HTC posted an update on Tuesday for the Touch2 which was plagued by the same problem, hopefully a similar fix will be available for the HD2 soon.

Lol!!! ....

hi everyone,
may i know how to update weather by using wifi, instead of using auto data connection? It cost me a bomb each time it auto connect to internet by using data connection!

firstly have a look at this app
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=546141
'Weather city editor', allows you to add additional locations to your HTC.
This lists many locations within the UK, alas not Corby, but Peterborough is there.
Hope it helps

Can´t update my weather data anymore?

Hey... Two days ago my weather update stopped working? - I´m normally using WLAN, but have also tryid GPRS. I have tryid to remove the city and choose it again and so on. I have soft-reset my unit a couple of times also??
I´m using the normal weather plugin who came with my Touch Cruise and it has been workin great (uptil now)
Any ideas??
(I have offcourse seached the forum before askin, but could find anything helpful)
/ MicTh
yeah same for me but little different; i CAN update the weather data with HTC Home Weather Screen, but when i try to update the weather while im in SPB Mobile Shell 2, then it does not work.
It does not update with Wifi, 3G, HSDPA or even with Active Sync and broadband connection.
Any solutions?
Well, I had a different problem, but maybe it will help you gentlemen. I wanted to be able to add local cities to the list in the HTC Home weather app. But the "included" verision doesn't seem to allow such edits. In fact, I couldn't even replace the file I needed to edit with the "device" version loaded. So I went to "Remove Programs" and removed HTC Home. I then downloaded and installed another version suggested by another forum member...
http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/htchome-2.1-n2a.cab
When I first installed it, I didn't get the letters down the right size of my contacts to quickly go between last names. But within a day or a soft reset, they seemed to come back and everything works great. Now I have my home city, work city, parents city, both sisters cities, and a few more I threw in for fun.
Short of an iPhone like app where we could setup cities and then just flip pages between them, it works awesome. And maybe this app will work better for you. Good luck!!!

That sites seems to be down and I'm having the same problem with weather updates. Any chance you have a copy and could upload somewhere for all of us...?
Thanks,
Rick
Doh!! I found it, and yes, the weather is now updating.
Glad you got it fixed. I'm having the "outage" type problem here myself. Once I've looked online so I know what to wear today, maybe a soft-reset is all it needed.
And I definately want to add a few more cities, because the one I've chosen for today isn't in my current list.
Thanx
Thanx for suggestions
Before i installed another update i wantet to try one more time, and now it´s working again?? - maybe the server was down or something..
Best regards Michael

Weather update down..?

Has anyone been able to update there weather today? Seems to be down.
try this mate :
;Weather Server Override
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila]
"Weather.ServerURLOverride"="http://weather.not2advanced.com/htcweather/forecastdata.php?ac=XDADevs&locCode=%25ls&version= 1&device=innovation"
Will this work if I have the weather data base program on? Had to use this cause my city is not in the original. I know the weather database updater uses a different site to update the weather. Dont know how this will affect it or not.
Mine seems to be working okay
It came back up... Was down for me most of the night.
yup it was down but now its back, thank god, cuz its suppose to snow in NYC but i wanted to know when exactly

HD2 and Aviation navigation??

I have been searching everywhere and I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know where I can get a really good aviation navigation, that utilizes the built in GPS and has live moving maps, app for my hd2?? It would really help me out and stop me from spending $400-500 on a good garmin.. Any help would be great... thanks in advance
I'm also still looking for that
hello guys,i'm looking for it too,plz post it if any1 got it,for HTC HD2... thanks
VFR or IFR ??
I know when i was flying VFR years ago, www.pocketfms.com was fantastic and helped me found a small airport near Paris
About IFR... I don't really have any. I used to use beeline GPS and have a database of worldwide airport entered as waypoints. (named as ICAO code).
Except that, NON navigation talking, i use wxsys to get metar taf, notams on pda... however i found out it's not really fitted for the HD2, as i can't scroll down the results...
If anyone has some other sugestions of programs interesting for IFR flights on the HD2... i'm listening !
Fly safe!
thanks! but I dont have a pref. I just want an actual aviation navigation app with moveable maps via gps. I use aviationweather.gov for my weather related stuff..notams, taf, metars.. by the way the radar on the hd2 is awesome!!! so ill check out those apps.. but if one else knows of some good **** let us know...
Try this...
http://www.flynavgps.com/
i do have a program that i did use a while back the maps were a little out of date back then ( up to date airports vors....)
but all in all wasn't that bad.
I'm actually going to be picking up a leo tomorrow and will be going for some vfr flight soon so I'll try it out.
it's called
WinPilotVFR
-planning - weather -checklist -deviations ....were all there
there was a website that tried to maintain the maps but i haven't been for a while, if your not able to find it let me know and I'll send you the program.
pocketfms has become f***ing expensive. for wx checks I use wxsys. currently I'm playing around with relirescue for nav purposes. But: there's no aviation/ flight safety overlay.
Does anyone know if there's an holding calculator for ifr?
thanks yall ill have to do some downloading.. but I checked out navgps... but I havent had a chance to import the maps into the app.. but thanks and lets keep this goin.. were need more aviators..
NavGPS work better on device with joystick-button. I use it on my Acer DX900. When I try on my wife's HD2 it was much worse.
I think mobile aviation soft now - big problem.

Hi!
Are you a Pilot? I am too, on the helicopter. I am using 2 program on my HD2, they are quite very userfull for me. Oziexplorer version 2.34 and NAVGPS PRO. Both can build the route, flight planing, WPT the same like GPS, specially they installed to SD and just one time input the active.
Give me your mail box to get more information!
I am a CPL-H as well, but I found that there are much more usefull apps for android than for Windows mobile. So android mostly runs when I am entering the helicopter and windows mobile anywhere else ;-)
Oziexplorer will allow you to calibrate your own maps from scanned maps and other sources too.
Tried a lot of apps and now I am with
Flymap
Costly, but perfectly stable and with PC-planning app
Alternative:
Skymap
Less costly, same functions as Flymap, did not try it.
(I fly an ultralight gyroplane)

looking for GPS tracking application

Dear all,
I'm looking for the GPS (tracking?) application where I can load the waypoints (gpx?) and then follow them from one point to the next one.
Thanks for suggestions!
BLIND ? Lost the Search button ? Get this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=670116
Hi, I'm not sure if you read my post or just the title...
I cant find the way to load the waypoints (route) into the application you suggested and then to follow it. That app is very nice and can log the track as you move but I couldn't find the IMPORT/LOAD waypoints option.
If you're experienced with this app please correct me if I'm wrong.
Do you mean an aplication for Geocaching ?
Look for GCz. http://www.nicque.com/PQz/GCz.htm
Thanks Didibochum,
I've checked the GCz - it's not exactly what I meant but if nothing else is there then I'll use that one.
I'm looking for something like the garmin outdoor devices where one can set the route to be followed by placing the waypoints and then the program gives the direction and distance to the nearest waypoint. Once the waypoint is reached it automatically points to the next one in list and so on.
Sorry pepesz !
Now I get it, You want it the other way round Planning a route and then exporting to HD2 and follow the route .............
Maybe this one could be for You ?

Can anyone tell me if the HTC HD2 in airplane mode still allows connection to gps so I can use Igo on a flight?
Try out NoniGPSplot. It looks pretty outdated, but it's worth a try and to buy. I use it a lot a least

Yes, GPS works in flight mode
Look here for a list of airlines which alllow GPS receivers.
I took some tracks last week from Greece to U.K. using GPS Cycle Computer:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
The only problem is getting a GPS lock through the aircraft skin/small windows
It can take a while to get a lock but, once you do, the HD2 stays locked pretty well, even a meter from the window

[Q] Weather Database

In the good ol' days of my WinMO HD2, a small app was created by a helpful XDA-er to make it possible to add locations (such as mine) that apparently 'don't exist' when trying to add them to the stock weather widget. I seem to be having the same problem with my new Sensation - apparently 'Kettering' in the UK doesn't exist. The weather app finds it when I'm *in* Ketteirng by using GPS, but I can't seem to add it as a location when I'm elsewhere
Anyone know if there's an app, or a fix, that will allow me to add my home town?>
Thanks guys
I think it requires root to edit the database
Think I'll bump this, seeing as we now have root!
I'd love to add other places too...any solutions anyone?

Weather Database
Thanks for the links.
Actually my phone isn't rooted - so I guess I'm stuck until I've done this
