Simple Backup (dump) & Restore full ROM? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Is there an app that will simply/easily do a full dump (backup) and restore of a ROM. I don't mean backing up the user data, I mean the entire ROM.
thanks

I hope I understood you correctly. Although I have never done this myself adn have very little experience in this area, I think you might be looking for this thread How to Reconstruct a Dumped ROM & Reconstructed ROMs .
Unless of course by "simply/easily" you meant a single application that will do the entire process for you.
You might also like Wiki search results for "dump" and Dump Rom tab in the previous menu.

Please note that some chef lock the ROM & preventing effective dump. I dud try some, that works, others not. Easiest is to keep the original nbh file if you need to reflash later.

Dopod and re-flashing help please!!

Hi, I have 3 questions:
1) I've looked around a lot, but can't seem to catch hold of a chinese language for my vox...Its called Dopod rom right?? Where can I get the files and instructions??
2) Does a ROM (when dumped) contain absolutely everything that is on the phone and if flashed on another phone will be a "duplicate" of original phone??
3) I've found the wiki on how to dump my rom, but how would I be able to re-flash it onto another phone??
Thanks guys
Wow somebody who actually read the Wiki before posting - nice
1.It's on the ftp. But look at the stuff that is written in the Wiki, about no Wifi and so on.
2.Nope it isn't it's only the operating system and all the software that comes with it! So no contacts or appointments or other files you put on. When you do a hard reset, you would see what all comes with the ROM! (but don't do it, it'll wipe all your data)!
3.You would have to put it into the kitchen and try to cook a new ROM out of the dump, but look around on the ftp first, there are a lot of shipped ROMs, yours is probably there too!
I can't seem to locate the Dopod wiki... But are there ANY ROMs that can handle chinese text without sacrificing the wifi function??
In terms of the shipped ROMs folder - I couldnt find my one and besides, I'd like to have one with all my programs on. So where can I find easy to follow (I'm a newbie on all this) instructions on cooking and creating a ROM??
(Is this thread the right one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066 ) ???
Thanks for your help

This is the only choice for enabled ROMs. Otherwise you cannot backup the apps and such between different ROMs. Too many things can vary. You can pretty much save your SMS/Mail/Contacts...but not apps.
if by "coming back to old roms", you mean that you tried out a new rom, didnt like it and ended up installing the previous rom you had, then you can just use sprite, do a backup, flash that new rom.......decide you dont like it, flash back the old rom, then restore it again with sprite

What he said. For new ROMS that I try, and setup with my apps and settings, I make a backup and name the backup appropriately. For example, when i backed up Sleuth's v3.0 rom, I just called the backup 021508_Sleuth30. That way, when I go back to that ROM, it is easy to restore everything.
if you use spb back up... you can back up specific folders only... i usually back up... application data, appmgr, program files, my documents, favorites, documents and settings, start up, start menu and save just those folders, certain registry values will be missing, but if you reinstall the programs that are having issues it has been a pretty smooth transition for me... hope that helps
thank you for your time
But I Wanted To Make A NeW Rom With All My Programs In So That I Wouldn't Have To Do Those Things
Ok I Will Stick With Sprite

A way to take complete backup?

Hi there,
I have another question today where I did not find any anwer to by searching the forum.
I am now about to give the Dr. Gonzo WM61 ROM a try. However in the unlikely case I do not like it I would like to go back to the original WM60 ROM provided by HTC.
As my current installation is heavily customized, is there any way to save the current installation and put it back if required? I mean with all settings, installed software etc.?
Something which I can easily do on a Windows PC by using software like Trueimage oder Ghost.
Is there a way to achieve this with Windows Mobile somehow?
Many thanks already for your thoughts.
Have a nice day

You can use Sprite Backup program but it is not recomanded to restore settings from one rom to another...
No problem with using sprite backup if you revert to your original rom.
Just reflash it. Install Sprite backup. Restore your backup and everything should be back as it was before flashing 6.1.
However if you keep 6.1, then you are better to re-install all your applications rather than restoring from the backup, unless you are carefull to only restore things that do not conflict with the new version.
Yes, heed the above advice. If you are WM6.0 and upgrading to 6.1 - make a complete and self-extracting backup using Sprite Backup. If you decide you don't like WM6.1, drop back to your original ROM and you can restore your backup to exactly how it was prior to your upgrade.
You can merge specific data from 6.0 to 6.1 however registry entries will not come over properly - which means all you can really restore are SMS and PIM.
EDIT: Double Post

This can be done by means enabling the r2sd function in the SPL. Unfortunately this is not really user friendly
Many thanks
Hello,
I am overwhelmed of that many answers and just say a big thank you to all who answered.
Will give SpriteBackup a serious try now, maybe also try the "user unfriendly" r2sd function afterwards.
Many many thanks for you, really making this forum a great platform!

To Backup the Original ROM, before i flash a new one

Is there any utility that i can use to create a re-load-able ROM, before i start experimenting with my own custom ROMs?
Of all the stuff i've read here, and else where, i have a pretty good idea of the how to, to create my own ROMs, as i did back then with the Palm OS devices.
the only thing i've not been able to find much of, is a good way to backup the current ROM, into a re-usable file that can be uploaded again.
my current ROM is 3.27 from factory.
All the stuff i've read was about dumping a RAW ROM, with the only purpose to pick and dissect the files and software from it, rather than having a good backup.
So, can anyone point me into the right direction to save a good copy of the ROMs i like?
Thanks
Am I right to assume that at present if we flash a new ROM on to our x7510's (after flashing hard SPL of course) then we loose the ability to go back to the factory ROM if we so wish?
I agree with AllGamer, we need to backup the original ROM from our devices before doing any flashing.
Plus, sometimes, the dumped ROMs will not include some very specific files, so I guess, somhow, each ROM - again Somehow - Device dependent.
So I wish to backup mine not use a dumped one.
Have anyone found anything useful, or good method to do this yet?
There are so much windows bundled crap, that i want to remove.... yet i can't unless i know i can revert back safely to factory state.

Dumping a Rom for backup

I'd like to know if theres a way to dump a rom with software and all minus SD card to a file for install at a later date, sense I normally will try new roms every now and then and would like to not have to reinstall all the tweaks, registry updates and programs again, which at this point would be about 30 different installs, plus having to reorganize everything, would be much more convenient to just be able to reinstall the backup rom that I made from an earlier date. Thanks in advance, oh and please keep the answers to 'how-to's' or general info about the subject instead of whether or not you think it is morally right to do so, etc.
