Open .avi files with HTC-Player? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hello.
Even when i open a .avi-file in the HTC-Player it switches to WMP for playback.
Is it possible to open .avi-files with the HTC-Player instead of the Windows Media Player?
Thanks in advance and best regards.

Wait .. you mean you can play AVIs in WM player ? Cause I can't ..

As i know, you can play AVI files by using CorePlayer (But you have to pay for it).

I know, but i would prefer to play them with HTC-Player because it runs more smothly than the CorePlayer.

You could also try tcpmp its as far as i know a free version of core player and it works extremely well even on a htc diamond

the latest version of tcpmp does not work on my hd2 .....

apparently core player does not use hardware acceleration like Media player, hence to weaker performance

Video Playback On AT&T Tilt

Is video playback on an AT&T Tilt horrible no matter what player I use or what files I play? If not can anybody help me out with a player with AVI support that doesn't run so slow. Is this even possible right now with current drivers like the classaction and omnia?
Have you tried Divx Mobile or Kinoma Freeplay?

You didn't say what hardware you had, but I use Kinoma for most of my media, and it works well, but doen't do AVI, so I dl'd Divx mobile to handle those. Both run very smooth for me.
the best for me is Smart Player.
it does work best if you reencode movie on your PC using the Smart converter
no speed probs or sound sync probs..
i have tried many but this is superior and i watch full length movies..
Well, that's because of lack of complete drivers in your device, you can find lots of information in this forum about it.
The only player I know that take advantage of video hardware acceleration for your device (QTv) is Coreplayer.

Good media player plays all formats

Is there a good media player for Windows Mobile? I'm looking for something that will play avi & flv etc.. formats.
I use Windows Media PLayer Clasic and VLC player which plays all formats... Can someone please recomend me somehting please...
or, where can i download all the codecs for Windows Mobile?
thanks.
Coreplayer
CorePlayer or TCPMP
I'm using CorePlayer v1.3.6 build 7427 and it plays all major formats of video and audio.
The only problem i have is that my Moto S9 HD stereo bluetooth headphones don't work with CorePlayer only the volume buttons. If I can get this to work then it would be perfect. I have to use WMP if I want to use my BT headphones.
Please be aware that Coreplayer does not support video files with AC3 audio. This can be a big problem sometimes. TCPMP ( the freeware player) that Coreplayer was based on does.
for some reason, i cannot get TCPMP to work on Windows MObile 6.1.. any help?
which cab do i use for Windows Mobile 6.1? The Smartphone or PPC or Other?
Windows Mobile CAB
tcpmp.pocketpc.0.72RC1.cab
tcpmp.smartphone.0.72RC1.cab
tcpmp.other.cabs.0.72RC1.zip

what version of TCPMP are you using with WM6.5? Also, have you tried the latest version of CorePlayer v1.3.6 build 7427? I don't seem to have any issues with it so far.
i'm looking for a free player... I have to pay for CorePlayer
i'm pretty sure i sent you a private message with alternatives to Core Player and links. have a look.
thanks everyone for replying!

no, alternatives. like many that were mentioned in the previous posts. i just sent him a pm, so as to make it simpler for him to follow instructions (not knowing his ppc/pc literacy level)
in closing, i DO like coreplayer, i just think it's to much money for something that TCPMP does well.

Core Player

On my HD I could play AVI files using Core Player, on the HD2 the same files play the audio but the viseo is:
1. In small screen very "liney" and doubled, 2 images side by side.
2. In full screen the screen is blank.
Any ideas?
maybe u have to set "directdraw" instead "qtv" in video settings
Actually, I do not understand why people want to keep on using Core Player.
The best movie player is already embedded in the HD2 itself in Photos/Videos album, because it has hardware acceleration.
CorePlayer is now a very old-fashioned software (2007) and the latest versions (1.35 and 1.36 are quite buggy).
Play your mp4 with the HTC video player and you will really see the difference.

yes true but to play divx or xvid files, coreplayer is still the best one,you dont need to convert it in mp4 and 1.36 is working just fine on my leo without bugs
where is the HTC video player located on the phone & will it play AVI files?
where are these setting changed?

menu/tools/preferences
select page
/video then change qtv to raw framebuffer
i got coreplayer to work perfect only with these settings
in preferences-->select page--->video---> than select GDI and smooth zoom
any different setup would show pixelated image(video)
While we're talking about CorePlayer, can it show subs? If so how?
Have searched through every settings now but i can't find any settings for subs.
If not, is there a player that plays DivX Xvid's with subs in srt or sub format?
CorePlayer plays almoast everything i can think of, and are working fine on HD2 here to.. Is CorePlayer dead now or what?
i don't think coreplayer can play subs , but tcpmp can...however i didn't try it on my hd2 and don't know if it works
tcpmp works fine set to either gdi or rawframebuffer
not tried subs but they should work too
biggest benefit of tcpmp over coreplayer is the price

Tcpmp works, you can use srt (and I think smi) subtitles. You have to use GDI as video driver to see them.
Colors
Do you like the colors of coreplayer (or tcpmp) out of the box?
I had to change them to custom, raise the contrast a bit and lower the brightness.
I find HTC album images a bit too dark instead (but I can't change)

i've been trying to play .flv vids on it but in vain!

I tried searching for that on internet but almost found nothing practical
Also, some of my .wma filds play only the sound with a black screen

ummm......ain't wma files audio only files?
For those who might be desirous to buy CorePlayer 1.36 I strongly recommand to be patient.
Indeed CorePlayer 1.36 is a dying software. CoreCodec is currently finalizing a version 2.0.
It would be useless to waste €30 on v1.36 now and probably have to pay later for v2.0.

coreplayer vs tcpmp

Yo guys. i have installed both players on my leo. i like the tcpmp player the best because you can have ac3 plugin and subtitles. BUT its like it plays with a lower framerate than coreplayer? the fact is that movies exactly feels a bit too laggy so it gets annoying when watching on the tcpmp player. any know why or maybe got a solution?
regards alf
Same dilemma for me...
...
any got a solution to the laggy tcpmp?

there is no solution. coreplayer comes later and it's more optimized, but it doesn't have ac3 and subtitles support. Give and take....
just to add to the debate, this hd2 which I'm writing from, during a benchmark on tje opening of sex&the city, had 170+% speed in coreplayer, and 90-% in tcpmp...looks prety normal to me, asv previous poster sais, coreplayr developent went on, while tcpmp has stopped some years ago
a little OT question...what type of subs tcpmp read? because i tryed with tons of SRT but i dont understand how to let theme works
http://forum.corecodec.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=155
That thread talks of AC3 support via a purchasable plugin, confirmed as being in development by one of the developers back in 2007. However, it constantly got put back by the look of it until in the end the thread was locked after a very good point regarding the lack of a Coreplayer demo by the last poster. Shame.

I think it's a problem related to the use of cpu. If you launch tcpmp just after a boot (before it scales down to about 400 Mhz) you'll see that it is faaaast (yesterday I used this method to watch a 960x400 divx AC3). It remain fast as long as you don't leave the phone to go to rest...
I usually use Coreplayer, this method when I have a movie with subtitle or AC3

You have to use the right version and use GDI (if I remember correctly) as video driver.
Srt are ok, with older versions you had to use smi files (you could use subtitle workshop to convert them)
Check this thread for a TCPMP player that works fine on HD2

+1 for coreplayer or TCPMP. Why take the time to convert videos when you can simply play them?
I bought coreplayer ... It's the one for me and a good prize too
Tried coreplayer and it's having problem in my unit, the video will be messed up and has to restart don't know why.
This video converter is very good, with the ability to re-sync audio (not that I have needed to yet). It was developed for the HD by an xda member. But yeah, TCPMP or Coreplayer will work if you don't want to convert it.
Thanks gotta give it another try.

Switch your video codec to DirectDraw then it will work like charm. Look for more tweaks in coreplayer forum.

Oh thanks but please let me know how to change video codec.
COREPLAYER: Menu > Tools > Settings > Select Page > Video > Video Output - change to DirectDraw
TCPMP: Options > Video > DirectDraw
In coreplayer, just make sure that a video is NOT playing when you do this....it tends to crash and forces you to do a soft reset (at least it does for me!)
I have no probs playing flv with coreplayer or TCPMP, I just prefer Coreplayer.
Thanks so much, actually GDI codec works for me but there's still very slight sync issue for some videos.
You may also want to try Chainfire's 3d drivers (if you haven't already)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592663 (not the beta drivers - yet!)
Some people have said it improves DirectDraw performance in Coreplayer, but I never had any problems before, so I can't really say yes or no to that! The drivers do help with other apps too, so I would say they are worth installing anyway.
I think there is a known problem with the HD2 and video/audio sync, but again (lucky me), I've never noticed it.
Col.
