Has anyone found where the custom dictionary is located? I would like to restore my custom dictionary after I do a hard reset.

Yea. I have it down somewhere. I'll find it for you and post tonight if someone else doesn't.
With that said, a couple of times now I've almost created a post seeing if anyone would be interested in some type of community database. Meaning we have a thread where we all put in our own custom words, and someone maintains the db which can then be included in roms. But I figured the demand wouldn't be that high so I never did.

I would love to be able to delete some of the words I accidentally added to my dictionary and Flipz that is a great idea I might be interested in the database or helping

Yeah I'd love to get rid of some of the stuff I didn't mean to add as well, even if I have to clear the whole dictionary

Ok if my notes are right then it should be: /data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/udb
As for how to read it, I'm not sure yet. But a hex edit does show it's filled with words. Backing that up and then pushing it back after a restore should be what you need to do.
Want to test it? Pull that file to your comp. Then add a word to your dictionary. Push that file back to your phone and replace it. Reboot (you will have to reboot) and see if the word you just added is gone.

That would be awesome if you could include that in your rom.

duplicating phone

I have multiple tilts, and want to make them all the same... is there a way that after I've got one working the way I want it to quickly duplicate/copy everything to another tilt?
I've looked at the kitchen stuff, but need a good walk thru to make heads or tails,,,
I basically am taking someones already cooked ROM, then modifying it and adding the CABS I want, and the config settings I want for the phone. I am also changing start menu layout to my liking.
thanks in advance!

I did a search and can't find an easy answer to this. Anyone have a suggestion?
you can use sprite backup and then do a "upgrade" restore to get most of your stuff on the other tilts. will need to reconfigure email though. please read the help and faq at Sprite's website before you do it.
You want aprogram called SPB Kiosk. I'ts not cheap, but I did some beta testing for them & can probably send you a test copy that's fully functioning. PM me if u want.
why do you need multiple tilts? not to be a smart ass but just dont see the logic. in regard to your question why not install the same rom/radio on each and load your preferred cab files on an sd card and just load them up. its a bit tedious however it shouldnt exactly be brain surgery. plus use pim backup so each phone can have same contacts etc...
Probably b/c like me they are for family &/or business use.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the suggestions so far are to backup the programs and settings but not the ROM. Am I confused?
What you are looking for is something like Sprite Clone (but it aint cheap).

Spb Backup does a complete backup and restore of everything you have installed, all PIM data, and all Register settings, but doesn't install the ROM. I would think you could flash the ROM you want on every other device, and then take the Restore file from the complete unit and run it on every other unit. The Restore file is a self-contained .EXE file, it doesn't need the program to be installed (because the whole point is that it will reinstall everything even if your current program structure is FUBAR)

M2D Weather unable to add a new location :/

When I put m2d onto my elfin, I had no problems, except when i go to the weather tab. It simply says "unable to retrieve data for selected city" even though I didnt select one and i cant click on "add location" in the menu.
Any ideas of how I can get around this and actually add a location?

What version of m2d do u use? do u have custom cities added?
Im not sure what version of M2D it is, because it was included in the ROM that I put on. It was THIS ROM.
I have tried with and without custom cities.
As well as the manilla2d.exe that comes with the custom cities fix,
but it crashed whenever I went onto the weather tab ¬_¬ when using the custom fix .exe
Can I assume that you read this ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439399
Yes Ive tried that out.
But im not trying to add a custom place to the list, im just trying to choose a place from the list to begin with.
Cris,
Have you checked out the Rom thread to see if its a rom issue, or pm the chef for advice. Might be worth trying a reflash though.
not being able to use the weather is a small thing, but its annoyed me enough that im giving in. im gonna do a hard reset and then if that doesnt work, ill re-flash.
lol, ok let me know how you got on
Well, Ive done a hard reset as I said I would.
It worked fine.
But then, being the ideot that I am, I mucked it up again
I tried what is on THIS thread, which is a tut on how to add custom locations.
When I tried it out, it said it couldnt download the information for this location, and It also wont let me remove the location, or add another.
If i use the manilla.exe from the thread I linked to, it just closes M2D whenever i open the weather page & just goes to "tap here to start manilla 2D"
Ultimately what I want to know, is where is the information stored that tells M2D which locations are actually being used? If i could edit this, I wouldnt have to hard reset again, or loose the weather function.
Did you just edit the xml file or go the whole hog as per scotchua's thread?
i only edited the xml.
plus, removing my custom location didnt help either.

Ok give me your location, and ill edit the xml file for you. Then you can just use t.c as usual to overwrite. Is the weather with normal cities working now at the moment?
well, i have got it working, as of about 5am this morning.
and ive also found that the settings of what locations are to be user are in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>software>htc>manilla2d>weather:
then its goes into folders counting up in numbers for the different locations you use :3
Nice one Cris, give urself a pat on the back
*pats self on back*
*slaps self round the face*
now, whenever i go onto the messaging tab, M2D freezes and I have to soft reset my elf ¬_¬
WILL THERE EVER BE A TIME WHEN MY PHONE WORKS ENTIRELY??
:'(
lol man thats heavy, have you altered anyhting else at all, any manila files? play with the reg? Have you posted anything in that particular rom section?
sadly the ROMs creator doesnt reply much, and everyone else simply comments on things they want from the creator ¬_¬
and the only things ive changed is add a custom location to the weather, chance the location of a couple of images on the home tab (the clock basically) ive edited which tabs are enabled or disabled..
plus ive played about with the image files :/
ive edited some of them, or used files from other themes and copied them across to the windows directory using total commander, because manilla 2d customizer never works on my phone, no matter what rom im using (another problem :/ )
but yeh, when i searched for any issues other people have had with the messages tab crashing, the only thing i read about was someone who had trouble copying the files. and ive had an error at one point.
(i have re-coppied my haxord image files across withe no problem since mind)
so yeh, im a bit lost as to what it could be
mmm werid man... i hate saying it, but you considered flashing a different rom? Kinda defeatist (which is why i hate sayin it) but i cant understand what your doing wrong (if anything)
thing is, i dont really look through my texts that much, so having it disabled isnt a big loss. I might remove the email tab too, as thats prety much unused too.
it just would have been nice for it to work
plus, its so satisfying scrolling across when you have more tabs :3
also, i must add that im not gonna change this ROM for AGES :O
its the quickest ROM i have ever used, and ive used plenty
plus, i had been trying to create a theme and then i randomly came across this ROM and saw in the screenshots, the exact image of what i wanted my theme to be like, so stopped making the theme and downloaded the rom.
now my phone is made of sexy

Where are HTC Scenes stored

I've got flashing different ROMS down to a science using a combination of Sprite Backup and Titanium backup. The one thing I can never seem to backup are custom made scenes.
Does anyone know where on the file system scenes are saved? I've searched the forums as well as the web and have yet to find an answer on this. Thanks in advance for any help.

I really hate setting up my scenes. I put forth a lot of effort to get them how I want it. I have just resorted to drawing a simple diagram of my layouts and going by that. Most of my scenes are folders or shortcuts. That's the real PITA.
I would like to know this as well. I assumed they were stored on the sd concidering there is a Rosie folder there but nothing is ever in it.
Just one bump, I promise I'd really like to know this.
I'm honestly not sure, haven't dug around on the phone looking for them before. Have you tried exploring the phones filesystem for the data using ADB yet?
It is a PITA

Mybackup works pretty good for this, sometimes you just have to reinstall some widgets still a pita for me too. I made 12 custom setups that all took very long to set up and i actually diagrammed them and wrote the contents in notepad before my first hard reset. I dont mess with them anymore really because ill probably be flashing again the next day....I really do like the new nexus launcher with live wallpapers though,so i dont spend all that time anymore...
Ill be back....

I seriously hate setting up my meticulous scenes every time I flash a ROM and have to wipe.
I'm trying to get an answer searching the file system myself. It doesn't look like adb shell supports the "find", so I'm looking for something that will search. ES File Exploer seems to only search for images and media.
I've created a screen, anyone have a good way to do a recursive search from the root in shell or another program?
No luck, I used Astro to search for anything regarding scenes and could not find a thing. This might not be stored as a file, but saved in a database. I ran the dalvik debugger and tried tracing to see what gets updated when scenes are changed, but I can't make sense of it yet.
I'll keep plugging away, but I'm not very confident.

[Q] Misspelled words not in user dictionary

I'm sure someone has already asked this question, but I can't find it anywhere....
I have an EVO and I'm using Gingerbread 2.3.3. I have several words that I can't see in my user dictionary that are misspelled that come up when typing.
Example wont instead of won't or hows instead of how's
I'm sure at some point, I clicked to save it because I wasn't paying attention as was trying to put an ! in my message or something to that effect, but since the word isn't in my user dictionary I can't delete it and prevent it from auto correcting.
I've deleted all personal data, reset to factory data, I've not restored from previous versions, I only have the Adroid keyboard installed on my device.. Surely there's something that I'm missing??
You probably need to download the English dictionary. Go into settings->Languafe & Keyboard-> then look for dictionary
I have it, and it doesn't seem to need an update.

[Q] How to backup sms with emoji?

Hi!
I have been searching for this on Google and in the forums, and I cannot find any answers. I see that the most of the sms/mms backup apps are using .XML files, and I read that they do not support emoji and would corrupt the .xml file if I try to restore it.
I have only had to restore sms one time and that time i used go sms pro since I read that they support emoji backup even though they didnt so my 14000 sms got corrupted when I tried to restore, also tried with Titanium without anyluck or maybe I did something wrong (luckly I had nandroid backup and didnt update ROM), this time i want to make sure that this would not happen again and I want to update rom without loosing my sms. I feel there is a simple solution, but I cannot find it.
Would be nice if someone could help out a newb

I'd like to know toO!
Why do they have to make this so damn hard. Why can't I just drag a file from old android phone and drop it in new android phone? What is the best method to COMPLETELY backup and restore SMS/MMS on non rooted phones?
Try this app (find the latest beta from release folder) : https://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/blob/master/README.md#readme
Used for years and did several restore while changing my rom. It push the backup into a Gmail label.
From what I saw, it saves pictures. So I guess it saves also emoji.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I tired SMS Backup & Restore but for some reason when it restored them (which worked for the most part) it screwed up a bunch of the time stamps.
One year later and no good solution to my problem?
A solution I found

I know this thread was years ago, but I came across it while trying and failing to fix this issue, and after a ridiculous amount of time investigating I have a solution finally. I thought if I posted it here then others with the same problem might come across it too and it could help people.
Assuming you already have "SMS Backup and Restore" (though confusingly there are two apps in the Play Store called that, you want the one with the green icon by SyncTech Pty Ltd).
Select "Back Up Now" and send it to Dropbox (or another place, I found Dropbox the easiest). Most importantly though, click on" Advanced Options" and turn the "Emojis & special characters" slider OFF. xml doesn't understand emojis, and it will corrupt the file and cause "XML Parsing Error" when you try to open it.
There's an extra optional step to make the file easier to read (puts it in a nice table without bare code everywhere) but this website won't let me post the code because it contains two links (and because I'm a very new member, signed up just to write this). This step involves adding a file called "sms.xsl" and adding a line of code to the xml file to make it talk to the xsl file, but I can't find anywhere to download it with a quick Google search.
Let me know if anyone wants any more details.
This all worked for me very well at least, I hope it does for others.
