Limit SMS History Display? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

I've tried searching but I can't find an answer to this for the HD2.
Is there a way of limiting the number of messages displayed in an SMS conversation's history? I'm having to wait a good 10 seconds for all the past texts of some contacts to load before I can start to type, which is obviously extremely annoying. Limiting the amount it displays to 20 or so would be absolutely fine.
Anyone have any ideas?

This is a good idea, at the moment I am trying to keep on top of my messages by deleting older ones. I find it very strange that there is such a huge delay when there are loads of messages in a conversation. Whats the 1ghz processor doing? Having a tea break?

Oh ? I thought I was the only one who suffured of the loading speed in the SMS history.
On my last and beloved Cruise, the history was splitting in a few pages.
Someone know how to make it the same way ?

A solution for this would be nice!

Yes ! Perhaps we should try to post it in general XDA forum ?

Would like this also, now I'm using the old message view again (not threaded) because the other one is way to slow

I need this too...
Please, find a way to split threaded sms like in old TF3D!!!!

I hope HTC knows about this problem and will release a fix! Just write HTC about it...the more the merrier!

correct! Please report it to HTC so that they will fix this.
For the moment you can use this "workaround":
Open the inbox for this contact and try immadiately to hit the "send" button and answer the question "...really want to send an empty message.." witn "no"....that's it.
the keyboard is directly available and you can answer

i wonder if its possibly something to do with the small thumbnail images on every message thats slowing it down????? maybe removing these may make a difference, anybody know how to do that though?? lol

I've tried it and that has no effect on the speed

booo! lol i`v reduced the text size to smallest and that seems to have helped a bit, i havent got many messages right now i`l know soon if it really makes an impact when i dont delete my messages.
forget that comment above dont think it makes a blind bit of difference lol

Just click
All Messages > Menu > Settings > Traditional Mode

The traditional mode separate the sent messages and the received messages.
But if one has lot of messages from the same contact, this will still be slow.

Solution
My solution for this problem is that once a day a sync with windows my phone and archive the old messages there or save old messages with jeyo mobile companion, thus leaving in the phone a minimum amount of messages. until HTC solves the problem this works for me

I'm archiving old messages on MS MyPhone too for the time being. An acceptable workaround for me for the time being.

Two SMS Questions, tried searching

Sup guys
Second day with the new touch pro, lovin it. Theres a few things that are bugging me, though. When I send a text, it places a copy in my Inbox like: Me: Message
It clutters up my inbox a ton, but is it necessary for threaded messaging to work?
Also, if I go to hit the compose button on TF3D, and rotate the screen before the actual text box comes up (5 seconds later) then the ****ty 8 button landscape view will come up and screw up my message. Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks guys
Joe
Just wanna know if everyone deals with this.
Everyone have their sent SMS's in their inbox?

you can change threaded mode to normal.then you have recieved messages in your inbox and sent in sent items.but i think you know this already.if you want to use threaded mode this is something you heve to live with
or check out this software http://iwindowsmobile.com/threaded-sms-messaging.html .it is not free but could help you keep threaded mode.try trial first and see if you like it.

Email Inbox View..

I am wondering.. i recieve quite a few emails throughout the day and at some point i like to go back to specific mail i recieved earlier and re-read it.. when i open the inbox to show all my mail, i am wondering if there was a way to change the way i view the actual inbox on my device? I am looking for something similar to the blackberry look where it only takes up one line instead of a few that way i can see more emails in the inbox without having to scroll down?
Thanks for any help.
i just looked through the menus and didn't see anything :\
Yeah unfortunately theres no option to change it.. I thought there may be some kind of tweak or hack that you can you perform to change it to some kind of list format
Email Inbox View
I heard there are alternative e-mail programs you can run on your device that will give you more of a " outlook feel ", with pre-view pane, etc
Anybody know what they are called and where to find them, I think something like that would solve everybodies problem
profimail and flexmail are 2 mail-clients i know. both are commercial but worth their price
my friend has a diamond on sprint and i saw his message box was sort of zoomed out and smaller. any idea on how to get something like that?
EDIT: FOUND IT! Go to start, settings, system, screen, text size and change the text size to make more emails show up in your inbox not a fix for the issue at hand but it made me happy

have you tryed the sms hotfix from the htc support page? or in advanced network in all settings/connections try setting the sms service to gsm rather than gsm preferred. and also apply the 1.48 rom update also from the htc support site. had the same problem and it was gone afther dooing so.
it seems that is a common problem..i got it too and it's not related to a specific rom or phone carrier because i got the 1.408.401 ITA but i know people with a older ROM with the same issue..
and btw when the sms stop workin' it seems that also windows live (messenger + hotmail) and the weather (only the gps assisted) stop workin'.. at least this happen to me and other people..
same sms problems
my rom was made on 11/09/2009 which meant its version 1.48.707.2
any suggestions of fixing this sms problem? which rom hotfix would best fit?
See the 60+ page thread in the general section ;-) HTC are working on it.
This sounds like what i had. for no apparent reason the phone decided to keep all messages in the outbox (viewable via classic sms display). sending sms messages in different ways somehow unclogged the outbox and all messages were sent.
i did have to bother someone with a test message, unfortunately
sorry i can't be specific. dutch button names wouldn't be much help . the sms tab has a conversation view and a traditional view. switch between those to get the option to see the outbox.
different ways of sending text messages are via the contact display, from the conversation view and just clicking the 'new message' button while in conversation view. somehow these roads to the same function work quite different.

could you tell me where... I saw htc.com but there is just the old one
I have installed Freberrys rom nomess version, which includes htc sense but not htc messaging. It uses the old style off messaging, I dont mind atleast i can send messages without worrying if they have sent. I can confirm with this rom for me the issue has gone.

Possible for auto text delete app kinda like mem killer

I would be willing to start a bounty for a auto text delete app... like delete texts for each person after 100 texts... is this possible?
Its not auto, but try SMS Quick delete
No Offense. But Its not that hard to Delete Text Messages.
I agree with this post. I think getting sms quick delete to do a nightly scheduled delete would be amazing.

I think youre missing the point.
I agree, btw something like this would be great. Either running to deleted messages by scheduled task and or delete message based on a specified count.

It's not that hard to mail a letter via postal service, but I'd still rather email.
I think it's a great idea, you could adjust it to purge anything over x number of messages or older than x number of days.
I'd love to see this happen.
OP I think you may have a better chance by emailing SMS Quick Delete because they already have the app started...
I haven't looked into what APIs the SDK offers for dealing with text messages, but just thinking this through real quick, this shouldn't be a hard app to write.
When I get a text, it appears in both the stock app and in Handcent. This indicates that the messages are stored in a central location. The existence of Handcent and Chomp also make it clear that third party apps can access and manipulate this storage.
Performing tasks on a schedule is easy to code.
What sort of features would people like to see in this? Delete by age? Delete by count? Exempt certain contacts from having their messages deleted? etc...
I've been looking for an idea for a simple app to write to get more familiar with coding for the Android environment. If there's interest in something like this, it seems like as good a project as any to practice with.

Issue is
1. You want to delete it when no one is sending you messages as to delete one you missed which would make you think that scheduled at night is best but...
2. Either count or time (i.e. middle of the night schedule) can screw you up if you get a message and the app then deletes it before you are able to check your messages...
I think it could be anything if you could prevent the deletion of new texts then I guess it wouldn't matter as much.

I see what you're saying, but if it's properly designed, neither one should really be an issue. If, for example, it's set to auto-delete anything over 30 days old, well, frankly if it's been sitting on your phone for 30 days and you haven't read it yet, then either it wasn't important, or you've been sitting in jail and likely have more important things to worry about.
Same with going by number of messages, you'd want the threshold set at a level where there's not really much chance of you not getting to it before it gets deleted.
Ideally, these thresholds would be user configurable. For me, deleting anything over 100 texts would easily retain a month's worth, but for my daughter, it would be blasting stuff that was only a few hours old. (I've honest to god seen this girl sleep with her phone in her hands, thumbs never leaving typing position....)
That said, it would definitely be a good idea to never, ever delete unread messages. Or, at least have separate criteria for unread messages.
isn't this a feature that's included in non-Sense messages app??? I much prefer that version, but I don't know how to replace the sense version with that one (if possible)
I think having delete by both age and number would be best... for example, if it could delete any message that is more than say 5 days old, up to the point where there is <10 messages left in the thread then stop deleting from that thread
and if you could adjust the two variables...
and:
adjust which persons messages get deleted...maybe even make it so that you could adjust the two variables individually depending on the person?

Ultimately, that's the idea. Let each user specify their own criteria.
To be honest, if I decide to take a crack at this, my initial "proof of concept" version would probably just have a couple criteria hardcoded in, and then I would add configurability in increments.
The actual "guts" of this program should be crazy simple to code, but being new to Android, I'm still getting used to designing UIs on the platform, so that would be the portion that slows me down (and also the part that I'm looking to get some practice with...).
the file for storing texts is /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
and no that's not a typo, there is a data folder within the data folder
also, by the way, I tried messing with it once to restore some old texts from a previous rom, and kept force closing my handcent and the stock app until I just deleted the file and let it recreate itself
Yeah honestly i am shocked that no one has done this. My friend and i have had so many texts our phone slows way down. And then when we try to delete txts of the contact(s) with the largest amount of texts the phone will lock up for along time or untill we pull the battery. After the phone lock up the texts are still there. i would be happy if all my contacts where limited to 100 texts. this issue normally happens around the 1000 mark (for a single contact) from what i have noticed.
Also this has happend on sevral roms that i have used so its def not a rom issue

Yeah, that's a database file. Probably not a great idea to edit it directly, you would want to make changes through the sqlite interface....
any solutions?

[Q] SMS Issues

I have recently got the X10i after yrs of a N95 ( sorry ), am doing my best to like the phone and am giving it every chance. I have lurked on this site and last week I rooted the phone and made it more personnal for me, thanks to the developers and those who provide the info for rooting.
I quickly removed the moxier stuff and also the messaging app but I am having issues with handcent sms, I wanted it for group/bulk texting tbh but it seems I have to restart the phone to get it to send a text to a group which has got 18 recipients.
Once the phone has started up I can send a group text no probs but the second group text will send to 1 or 2 of my contacts but the rest then fail, so I then restart the phone and resend the text and they get delivered, I have tried chompsms, grouptext and groupui, but each one gives me the same problem.
Has anybody got any ideas or another app I could try to resolve this issue ?
maybe it could be that the sms apps you use need (or work thanks) the main messaging app which were installed on the phone, the one you uninstalled.

I dont think it is that to be honest, I think it is more to do with the amount of contacts in the list, so I am hopeful that somebody confirms this and also gives me a better option.

Actually this could be true, as you should not remove core system applications, such as messaging.
so, you can try resetting your phone using Update Service software on your pc. I tried searching for an SMS app in my mobile folder to share with you, but there are several files that may be connected togheter, about messaging, and I am not able to choose the right one (or ones) to share.
