32B Radio on 32A Magic?

Hi all,
I've been waiting for the HTC Magic 32A kernel source for some time so that I can compile netfilter/iptables support into the kernel. I would really like to tether my phone to my laptop while I'm out of the office.
I notice that most of the 32B ROMs have support for tethering.
Would it be possible to flash a 32B radio on to my 32A device and then use the 32B ROMs?
I'm reasonably comfortable flashing the radio on my phone, but I don't want to go through the procedure if it's not going to work.
Could somebody point me in the right direction please?

1 caveat. The 32A loses it's memory advantage. The 32B radio doesnt seem to allow the phone to see all of its memory...kernel issue probably. That's why not all 32A users have switched...we like our memory!

Yes, and that's why I bought a 32a version in the first place!!

Yeah, I've noticed that the ROM that I flashed the morning (nk02 32B) is running a fair bit slower than its 32A counterpart. I think I can handle this until the 32A source is released and I can tether using a 32A ROM.
In the meantime though, I'm quite happy with the 3.5G data while out of the office.

OK, I couldn't handle how slow my phone was running. It was painful! Waiting for the Apps tray to open sometimes took 15 seconds. And when I unlock the screen, I get a Close/Wait prompt for android.acore. I tried a couple different 32B ROMs but they were all pretty slow compared to the performance I'm used to. I'm sure if I didn't need to have so many apps installed and have the Hero theme it would be a lot faster...
As for the tethering, I found an application called AziLink. It doesn't use the iptables/netfilter functionality, but runs more like a VPN server through adb. It's buggy as hell, and disconnects all the time, but it'll do for now.

Which one is the best rom to try?
currently on cyan 4.01 but without quickoffice and htc sync..
anyone else here from singapore using the magic?

If you need HTC Sync, then you'll need to use Roms meant for HTC Magic or Hero, not the Google Ion ones.
If you dun want to try Hero Roms, you can try using the HOFO community Rom (the HTC one, not the Ion one). I've used it before and everything works except that you'll need to install the PC sync app for your phone which can be found here

difference between hero and non hero based roms is only the UI rosie or?

If I remember it correctly JACxHERO does.

All Hero roms come with multi touch if I'm not wrong, but nearly all Hero roms also do not have fully functional BT.
If BT is not important for you, then Hero roms are nice to play with.

what'd happen if we flash those modded dream roms?

Hero ROM is nice, very very nice especially with the TouchFlo.
I tried : Fatal1ty-Hero-Full-v1-4, but there are some bugs that I cannot tolerate and also the batt drains very fast.
So changed back to hofo v1.1.1
Original Magic rooted ROM can get TouchFlo too?

Hi, any screen short of:
- ROM CursorSense32A and,
- MyHero 2.0.5 with Official SenceUI and
I plan to buy a Sapphire, so I ask me if exist an equivalent ROM with sens UI (same on HERO)?

What is the best ROM (stablility, fluididy,...) between CursorSense and MyHero?
Synchro (mail, sms, data, contact,...) works very well, no problem?

cursor sense hands down.

I was running MyHero 2.0.5 since its release last november, there had been no problem whatsoever, everything worked flawlessly and IMHO it was pretty quick already... Until last week when I suddenly feel the need for a new ROM, I tried CursorSense RC1. It's simply faster in every aspect and also seems to have improved my 3G speed.
Some people might be hindered by the need for new SPL/radio as required by CursorSense but look no further, it's well worth the hassle to get new SPL/radio (that're also downgradeable if you change ROM later). The author has written an excellent guide that is easy to follow evem for newbies, but if there's anything you're unsure of, do make use of the board here and ask questions instead of risking to brick your phone.

Hi, I noticed on twitter yesterday that there is a new Magic ROM

The category is ROM upgrade, and the date is 2010-01-28
I had to use twitter to find it, as it didn't show under a normal search (probably as I have UK as my country).
Is it the long awaited Android upgrade?

Well.. not sure if long awaited..
But it is the official Android 1.5 Sense UI rom for the HTC Magic!
It basically turns your Magic into a Hero (multitouch browsing, usb-tethering, HTC Sense widgets, HTC keyboard, etc.)
For me, the long awaited will be the Android 2.1 Sense UI rom, which will hopefully hit the Magic by the end of March.

Mmm, I did see that one but didn't think it could be the same, as the thread was started on the 21st, and the date on the support page was 28th and the twitter details came in yesterday (and again this morning).
All very odd, I guess HTC's support page isn't quite 100% accurate.

I'm seriously considering to buy Magic as my second phone. I hope to get used to Android before I will switch fully. I have a few questions, though. I hope someone will find the time to answer.
- Is it Magic 32A that is needed for this update?
- Is 32A superior to 32B in terms of memory or other features?
- How can I easily tell the model (i.e. 32A or 32B) when holding the handset in my hands? (say, I'll be allowed to reboot or do any non-destructive actions
- Is it true that Magic will get an official Android 2.x update?

since the guy who was "selling" that Magic ceased to communicate (after I told him that I want 32A and I will verify it before I buy the handset), I have a few more questions.
- I might get Magic from US, but I have no idea if 32A was ever sold in US. where can one buy 32A handset in US?
- by what names goes 32A in different countries?
- how much RAM exactly sports 32A?
- any idea where can one buy 32A in The Netherlands?

Good morning,
I also managed to get it up and running but not without a few bad words
But it is working, looks very stable and fast and not so vanilla anymore
One thing though... I'm working with Google Apps and my phone flawlessly synched all my contact. When I go to the "People" tab I get "all" my contacts and there is no way to select/show the ones with phone numbers only.
With the original ROM I was able to select/show contacts with phone numbers only.
Do I overlook something here or should I wait for an update?

I come here very often to look for roms for my mytouch 32b, but all I see mostly is 32a roms, can someone direct me to a place that has a good amount of roms for my 32b device please, oh and ty devs for all the hard work you to for us flashers.

Most roms for Dream should also be capable with 32B, so look in the Dream section.
Search first next time.

I have been to the dream section and have used it for a while, but I decided to come over here and look at roms for my mytouch, and sapphire is 32a and 32b, I'm looking for a very fast hero because I use jetflicks and it has a great video player that remembers where I left off.

so you dont listen to what we told you?
32b is identical to the g1 - therefore 32b roms are for the dream
you are only going to find 32a roms and a couple 32b roms in this section -
your 32b phone is not really compatible with the 6.XX radio so any roms will likely not be posted here as mytouch 32b is the same as a g1 so its under the appropriate section (notice most roms are built for both mt3g and g1)
32a is for EBI 1 dreams and 32a magics - 32b magics can use ebi1 radio 3.xx but is not reccomended since the 32b roms are generally built specifically for your device
your best hero rom will be kingklicks

I did listen and no one made it that clear, they said they hid them ( joking of course ) I'm not a noob at this but I'm not a developer either and I am new to the mytouch I have had a g1 forever. Really? I only ever see ports of 32B ROMs, which makes me sad
