Removing Settings Icons - General Questions and Answers

I've been asked to 'lock down' a couple of Intermec CN50's (running Windows Mobile 6.1) by removing certain items from the Settings Section.
The devices have custom settings applied to them via cab install which i've already finished, my problem is that I'm having trouble removing the last of the icons that my company wants removed.
In the System section of Settings i need to remove the "Regional Settings" and "Screen" icons so that users can't see them. Why these two icons have to be removed i do not know, but it's what i've been asked to do.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to remove these two items? Creating Registry Keys and using a Hide = 1 doesn't appear to work, and i cannot find .cpl files for these two items. I am currently unaware of any other methods to remove items from this section.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Exec remove Icons

I have installed programs (games mainly) and removed them using add/remove on the PDA. Which never really worked as they dropped out the add/remove screen but were still available for use. So I manually deleted the files using explorer.
The result was they all went but left their shortcuts everywhere. They are viewed as an icon as something like a plain white file with blue edging, along with the programs name, which if selected read with an error saying something like error please reinstall or remove... I have tried (at least I think) to remove them from the registry but with no joy, does anyone have any good ideas?
windows\start menu\programs\ and remove the shortcut

Everything Opens at the Bottom.

Hi,
Recently all my Emails/SMS's open at the bottom of the message, any one had the same problem, or know of the fix, registry setting maybe?
Thanks.
And your using WM6?
on the top right click the pull down menu for the sorting order
if it is already set by recieved
select it again and it will reverse the order
Yup thats right, totally unmodified ROM. Any Suggestions?
That's quite odd especially if your using poutlook, I do believe that a small feat of WM6 is that emails would open at the top. There are no settings in the app to change the read views, at least not that one. As far as registry changes, I would just browse through and try to find it. Registry edits are usually pretty easy to find and read, not to mention they are typically obvious with the function.
you dont need to reg edit
in outlook... the top bar
on the left it has the folder selection pulldown menu... inbox is the default
on the right it has the sort pulldown menu... recieved is the default
if it is already set to recieved, which it should, pull down the menu again and select recieved... it will reverse the order..
this works for all the sorting views...
There is no problem with the sort order, but with the view of the message itself.
I had the exact same problem after I installed Tweaks2k2 and enabled all the optimizations. When I unchecked the video performance improvements, it was back to normal.
with a simple search of "message open bottom" in the main kaiser forum reveals 6 topics all with the same answer
Here is five of them.
(ok so its only 4 threads and the last one is the search results, i omitted to cuz they just told the person to search)
But the solution has to do with d-pad navigation in PIE, solution found in those threads.. Wiki's not opening up so i i can't give the exact reg entry to edit. BUt as suggested in the linked threads, use kaisertweak
Yes Indeed, thanks very much for pointing me in the right direction, I have been playing with kaisertweak. All Fixed as soon as I changed it back to the default setting.
Thanks again for your help

Uninstalling "ghost" programs solved (wm6.1)

Backstory:
Installed a couple of custom clocks on my Sprint HTC Touch Pro through provided .cab files. Didn't like them.
Ran Diamond TF3D Config to restore default theme.
Start/Settings/System/Remove Programs showed the entries for the clocks.
Used "Remove". The Remove program reported that uninstallation was not complete. Asked if I wanted to remove the entries from the installed list.
Confirmed. After a soft reboot, the clocks still showed in the installed programs list.
Deleted the clock directories from \Windows\AppMgr.
Deleted the clock entries from HKLM\Software\Apps in the registry.
Tried to remove the clocks from the "Remove Programs" again. Same result.
At this point, searched the registry - there was not a single mention of the clocks.
Then searched the built-in and removable storage cards - same.
The clock entries still appeared in the installed program list.
SOLUTION:
1) Open MemMaid.
2) Use Jump To/Databases/Database Usage.
3) Scroll the list of database entries until you find SwMgmtMetadataStore. Select it and tap Browse.
4) Scroll the list (these are installed programs) until you find offending entries. Select an entry, tap Database/Delete Selected record.
This solves the problem.

The last post by Lemkus has the solution.
Thanks a million!
I've also tried everything to get rid of "Davis Andreas' Batti" from my uninstall list but to no avail. Finally worked using MemMaid....thanks acrh2
Yay! That worked! Thank you and Lemkus!
worked for me too but in the today screen the bar is still on top of the screen! Not coloured but it still indicates the battery.
any ideas?

How to change path for Settings in Start Menu

I was messing with the registry and could not figure this out. I got as far as finding where the settings program launcher is....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
Here we can add programs to the launcher and I beleive if I can add the .exe to WM All Settings page it would be great. I can't find such a file though. This is where I need help unless I'm completely wrong here. This would allow to add an All settings Tab to be added in the Launcher.
Or
If you go to HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\3 Changing things there should work. Would ony changing the path work? I just need to know where the .exe for the Settings page is.
It just frustrates me that I have to go to the Settings tab then All settings.
Thanks for any and all help. I am trying to learn here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: This maybe more difficult than I think. But I did figure out how to unloch the locked items and also to move them so they are at the bottom.
To Unlock go to
- HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
-Select one of the keys numbered 0-23 (a number for each of the slots. The locked items are numbers 0-3 and are ordered on the list going left to right/top to bottom)
- Just change the DWord value from 1 to 0 and you can now remove these if you wish.
- You can do the reverse to lock any other program in place. Click on it an set the value from 0 to 1.
--Now Soft Reset or go to today settings, turn off touchflo 3d and hit ok. Go back and turn TF3D back on. All set.
To Move the items go to
- HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher
-The locked items are numered 0-3
-Say if you want to move settings to the bottom left you would select key '3'.
-Rename it from 3 to anything you wish for instance 'n' (or any number starting from 24) make it short because you will change it again.
-Now go to key '23' and rename that to '3'
-Go back to 'n' or whatever you named the old 3 and rename it to '23'
-Now Soft Reset or go to today settings, turn off touchflo 3d and hit ok. Go back and turn TF3D back on. All set.

There is a way to directly link to specific Settings items, see http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/windows-mobile-faq/12666-applet-shortcuts.html Just save the text string after the "=" as a plain text file with extension ".lnk" and put it in the "/windows/start menu/programs" folder, as I'm sure you know.
I've used some of these and they can save a lot of stylus work. I don't see a way to link to the general Settings page itself though.

Same here! Would love to know how to get the "real" settings page directly!

You have to get a registry editor. I use PHM but have heargood things for Resco registry editor. Just google search for a cab.
HKLM=HKeyLocalMachine
EASIER WAY to unlock the first 4 shoutcut in start menu.....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\0
change the "IsReadOnly" dWord value to "0"
restart your TouchFlo3D
Do the same for 1, 2, 3....
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\1
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\2
HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila\ProgramLauncher\3

Thanks for the tip - works perfectly. Only problem now is assigning an icon other than the ugly white page with Windows square on it. I have tried the trick described here in the Wiki, but it doesn't seem to work. Any ideas?

Provided you have your shortcut in one of the initial 23 positions of the Program Launcher, you could try setting the icon path from the registry, in the location as described by HTC Touch Freak in the first post

There's also an "IconPath" parameter under the 0-23 keys which you might have more success with.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried that after posting the above. Managed to find out the icon is no 398 in shellres.192.dll, and inserted that into the IconPath line. Now, when I click on the shortcut, I get a message saying
"The file 'ctlpnl cplmain' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found."
I wonder if it's possible to make up your own icon, as you can in desktop windows - a bitmap of the appropriate size with ".ico" extension?
Thanks for the link Fisha21. I made a link for remove programs, put it in the programs list and also saw there was no icon. Well i thought, maybe i can easily approach the link differently.
I downloaded Link Creator 1.4 - Shortcut Creator (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494613) and just assigned the link to the right softkey.
For those who don't like that, there are many different options that it can be linked to (keymappings etc.)
Hope that helps a few peeps

[Q] Cookies Home Tab Editor v2.0.0.0

Ok, Ive looked to see if I could find an answer to this, but no avail......
Im running v2.0.0.0 CHT Editor on WM6.5 on a HTC Blackstone, and I am wondering, as I cant fin the answer here or in the fone settings etc....
How do you remove quicklinks from the page after they have been added?? What has happened is that with my fat thumbs, I have added multiple instances of the same program, and instances of programs that I don't want on my quicklinks table, and all I wanna do is remove them and replace them wih the programs etc that I actually want on the table....PLEASE help, this is getting incredibly infuriating....Thanks guys.
I don't know which version of CHTEditor I'm using, but if I click "Action," then "Edit Quicklinks," I just tap the ones I want to delete, then hit "Finish," or whatever, and it's done.
I don't have my phone in front of me, so I'm not actually entirely sure of the names, but you should get the general idea.
Hope this helps.
On the bottom bar: Menu - Edit Quick Links - Then tap lightly the quicklinks you want to remove (if you hold, then you move them) and a "X" icon will appear on their side - On bottom bar: Done and voilà, the icons you (and ME too) don't want disappear.
