Rom DoC's - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

Hi,
I've been looking at taking a deeper look into the RADIO (GSM) roms of the Kaiser (TyTN II). I'm trying to understand the memory partitioning on the unit.
I've checked using pdocread.exe and I get the following partition sig's:
1) handle c74c0e3a 1.84G (0x759ef200)
2) handle 47474612128.25M (0x8040000)
3) handle 87493b76 79.50M (0x4f80000)
4) handle c7493b52 2.75M (0x2c0000)
5) handle 67493982124.00k (0x1f000)
Ok the 1 is my SD and 2 is my internal storage. 3 is the OS, but 4 and 5?
What would go into the 125k partition (5)?
I've also noticed that pdocread.exe doesnt behave the same as it would on my ipaq. I've got a feeling that orange (UK) has bricked this pretty well.
Are there any DoC usernames on the orange (UK) units?
Secondly, I've managed to tear apart the stock ROM which the Orange UK website are offering as an update.
I've notice an 00_Unknown.nf file which is NOT signed. Are there any other known ways of reading this ROM image?
Where can I get some chipset specs for the TyTN II? I've had a look at the service manual (which I've attached) and there isnt much in there in regards to the actual architecture :-(
I believe that I could put my cpp and MC programming skills to use and come out with some slightly more efficient ROMS. (my work seems to work on most of our PLC bots at the factory)
I'm also gunning to look at the D3D drivers, as I also believe, as do many, that they are dicky and inefficient!
Anyway, some input would be appreciated.

ROM comparison

Hello people,
I have just purchased the T-Mobile MDA Compact (Magician) on German and I have been visiting these forums for some time now to see if I can get english language. I have noticed that there are many different english ROMs out there depending on who is selling the device (I-Mate, Q-Tek, T-Mobile).
What are the main differences between these ROMs? Mainly I am interested in the following:
1. Is the phone functionality the same for all ROMs? (same quality of voice, ring-tone selection, dialing and SMS interface)
2. If they are different, what ROM would you recommend?
3. Would placing the new ROM lock the phone to a network (I have unlocked version)? (T-Mobile ROM to T-Mobile network)
4. Are other pocketpc features the same for all ROMs (Bluetooth functionality, battery usage, memory usage)?
Thank you.
High i recently got my magician, it was already unlocked (it is branded t-mobile mda) i used t-mobile latest rom and phone was still unlocked (i am with o2 ukl). using this forum i upgraded to the 1.13rom,1.13radio rom and bigstorage. there is a guide on how to do this on this forum. the guide has all the links you need to get the roms and all the software you need to do the upgrade. since i have done the upgrade i have had absolutly no problems and have encountered no problems with the added software i use. battery performance etc is no different to before as i have always found it to be good. hope this is of some help to you
here is a link for you on this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32274&highlight=1+13+rom+storage
Hi, thanks for the reply but the link you've posted is for how to install the ROM. I have no problems with that, I am just wandering about the differences between various 1.13 ROMs out there.
Thanks.

The main differences between differently branded ROMs is the Extended ROM, ie the additional software bundled with the ROM. However by large the software included with each ROM is essentially the same, just branded with different things.
1: Yes
2: Well... they're all really the same! I use the T-Mobile ROM since its the 1.13 I'm most accustomed to BigStoraging (I have a guide on that ).
3: No. No ROMs on this site lock your phone to a specific provider, even the branded ones. Heck, I don't think there are ROMs which implement locks on the phone, but stick with the ones here on the FTP in case!
4. Yes, all the core Windows Mobile functions are exactly the same.

Why is it imposible to cook rom for old HTC PDAs

some old but powerful device like HP IPAQ h4100 is based on HTC hardware and its rom can be decoded by dumprom.exe, however, people just keep telling that these old machines will not have custom rom. May I know why these devices can't have custom roms like others?
Sorry that I have absolute no idea on rom cooking but I really love my ipaq in terms of its hardware. (Even I have bought myself a HTC Elf earlier)
Thanks for your answers.
various reasons
1.
drivers the whole driver model was changed with wm5 and old devices which never had drivers written for them with this model dont work
2.
flash with wm5 storage was moved from memory to flash out of the box using memory for storage is not possible there are programs to make ramdisks but they have to be started up
and the device itself vil not start if there is no flash at all
3.
rom creating and porting require alot of time and access to the device the port is ment for
rom cookers in general dont seem to have huge piles of old devices around
and being that batteries for these devices have a lifespan too and batteries may even
but absolute result in devices too old in general are put to sleep
resulting in a pretty small owner base

AHOY experts!! New PDAs, any match to my XDA II mini.

Hi,
I am looking for a replacement for my xda ii mini (Windows 2003) which i have been using for last 3 years.
I have tried HTC TOUCH, HTC DUAL, TYTN, cruise among the various other windows 5 and windows 6 PDAs available. While the the new PDAs have whole lot of new features, the most important feature (at least for me) - Find / Search was awfully slow.
The mini that i am using now has over 10,000 contacts and few files , no third party softwares or any other tools which take memory and process time. My PDA handles the data with ease.
The same data when i used on the newer phones and tested the search feature it turned out to be very slow. A search in XDA II mini takes 2 secs and it HTCh touch 5 minutes and TYTn cruise take around 3-4 minutes. that is horribly slow.
I tried the same on older XDA II (windows 02) and it turned out to be fast.
It made me conculde that the new phones with windows 5 or 6 must be taking lot of resources, too many features that the basic functions are not paid much attention to.
Simple OS like windows 03 are faster and efficient than the newer ones
I need help -
Is it the OS that is making the difference?
Where can i find a 02 XDA with Windows 2003?
Can i buy a HTC TOUCH or DUAL and format it and install windows 03? Will it work? Can somebody help me with that?
I had tried a few third party search tools , they were not any better? Can i find some fast search tools?
Last
Can somebody help me buy new O2 XDA II mini ? I know they are not manufactured now but it seems the only replacement of my current device.

I think the answer here is to flash a custom rom made by one of our great cooks here....
I have both HTC Tytn2 and HTC touch running custom roms and i can really notice the difference between custom and shiped roms.
Anyway this is just my 2 cents... lets wait for the gurus to reply
Cheers

A lot (if not all) users here have flashed cooked ROM into their devices.
All info about flashing can be found in the Wiki (albeit Device specific). Basic questions about flashing can be found here.
Everything else, can be found on the device forums.

Tytn II clone?

I recently found this phone that looks exactly like the tytn ii, called the Awang A9000 .... how different are the 2 phones and does anyone know if it can be used in the uS....
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12789
You mean this one?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90hLKV16w-8&feature=related
Yes, apparently it is a Chinese clone of the TyTN II, although it looks much cheaper. Check this link out:
http://www.multicellphone.com/awang-a9000-htc-tytn-ii-clone-runs-windows-mobile/
This device does not run Windows Mobile. It runs a proprietary operating system, i.e. no way to install/uninstall anything...
it failed to mention it's performance in couple key areas such as cpu speed and ram size... Also it runs on prob a java based OS with just surface/icon clone and it's in no way comparable to windows mobile's customization ability, for $185 it costs too much, I think a fair price for it should be around $90-110...
shouldn't this be in the Kaiser General forum? As I don't see how this relates to ROM development...
yes this is not a ppc its just look like kaiser but its basic smart phone

Can I load Windows 2003 on HTC Touch/Dual /O2 Flame

Hi all,
I have been using o2 XDA and XDA II mini for many years , i tried almost all new phones with WM5/6 and i am very much sure that it does not serve my purpose and work.
Can I buy a new 02 / HTC touch dual or tytn and load windows 2003 on it.
I understand that i will loose warranty etc. but is it possible. pros & cons?
Can i do it ? how ?
thanks
roms are tailored 100% for a device
so if the device maker never made a 2003rom for a device
one would have to start from scratch and maybe
have to reverse engineer drivers if some were requied
and not available in a wm2003 model

if someone really wants to spend money and energy he can,but it would be better to have wm5 or 6 for some devices like magician instead an overcomed 2003 for newer ones like touch dual, pharos, cruise, diamond
and by the way people developing os are trying to make a better os every time, and in most cases they do it, so you get better memory handling, better drivers...faster device if you want it that way
WOW! Why would you want to put a server OS on your phone? lol

do you have a specific for example compatibility problem with WM5+?
I have over 10,000 client contacts on my phone , I transferred data to couple of new phones with wm5 and wm6. All is well till I try to search. When i search for a contact it takes around 5 mins on new phones with wm5 and wm6 . It takes 3-4 secs on the the XDAII and XDA mini for the same. having tried many phones and tools , i assumed that the problem should be with OS. with improved graphics and whole lot of other features which take up the active resources may be the search module does not get all that is required.
MY xda mini 2003 / xda II 2002 have less features ,less graphics so they are faster is what i have concluded from all these experiments that i have done wit new phones.
Thanks

If you compare the search tool with my kind of data, you will understand taht the new OS is not of any help to me. I agree , that there may be whole lot of new features and drivers , But search in a n integral part of the os and don't understand why that should change. and it works superb in earlier versions 3 secs V/s 5 mins to search.
Your problem is caused by a new way of working with memory in WM5+ systems. WM2003 used part of RAM as a storage medium for installed programs and also contact databases were located there. WM5+ uses internal flash instead. Data from flash doesn't disapear when you run out of battery juice. On the other hand it is a numerous times slower. However i cannot imagine the slowdown would have been so drastic. I would advise you trying the fastest possible device with lots of RAM (Samusng Omnia i900 or HTC Touch Diamond). It is possible the slowdown will be more acceptable. If it will be no success you can modify some ROM to use RamDisk as a storage medium. However, there are no new devices with WM2003 ROMs available.
That is the most convincing answer that i have got since last year when i started looking for replacement for my XDA.
After trying almost every new and latest PDAs in the market, I am sure that the new PDAs will not be any great help
BUT your statement - " Modify some ROM to use RamDisk as a storage medium." makes me hopeful.
Unfortunately, for novice like me it ends there. I don't know how modify ROMS, or any place where i can get it done. Even if i get one, i don't know how to load it. Tutorials did not help much, they were just too much technical. I may be a odd one in this developer forum, but this is only place where i think i can get the answer. I am just looking for PDA that is just equvialent to my XDA II and XDA mini
Many Thanks for your response
