My alarm clock doesn't work anymore (no sound or vibration) and I thought I saw something in some thread about someone having the same problem. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the thread by searching. Will I have to load original Sprint ROM to get it to work?
Try another alarm from the market I like Digital Clock+Widget from Social & Mobile, Inc.
I ended up just restoring my phone.

First of all, let me say that not only am I new to android, I am also new to smartphones in general. So when - in your amusing video, which I quite enjoyed watching - you say 'noob'...I mean NOOB!
I have Googled this problem extensively and have posted this question on 5 other android support forums over the last month or so, and although it seems (from my research) many people have this or a similar issue, no-one has come up with a solution. A forum memer from one of those websites has now suggested I post this here. I have, before posting, searched this site also for a solution, but it appears that although some have a similar problem, there has not yet been a solution found, or the advice given hasn't worked in my case.
So here's hoping somebody here can help with this irritating and inconvenient issue:
Device: Samsung Galaxy Ace
Carrier: Virgin Mobile
Country / Language: UK/English
OS / Browser / build number: Android Gingerbread 2.3.3
I am having the problem where I have set custom ringtones for some of my contacts, but they are not always being played as they are assigned.
I have all of my ringtones in an folder on my sd card (/sdcard/ringtones, having moved them from /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones to see if this solved the issue. It didn't)). I have a custom ringtone (mp3) set as the default ringtone and a couple of other custom ringtones set for a few of my contacts. However, when I receive a call the phone does not play the correct custom ringtone for that caller but instead plays the custom ringtone assigned to the previous person that called. If the caller is also the previous person to have called me, then it will play the correct ringtone, as they are the previous caller. (If that makes sense??)
To reproduce: Basically I install some mp3s onto my SD card. I go into my contacts, choose a contact, then click 'edit'. I then set the desired ringtone as the custom ringtone for that contact and click 'save'. When that contact rings, instead of the assigned ringtone, my phone plays the ringtone of the person who called me before that. When the next person rings, it plays the ringtone it should have played for the last contact. And so on. When I check the details for that contact, it confirms the ringtone I had chosen is still selected for that contact, it just doesn't play that one, but the one of the previous caller.
In addition to posting on Android help forums, I have also reported this bug to Samsung, although I'm not convinced it is a Samsung problem as clearly (according to my research) it is happening across the board with several other makes of Android phones. However, the reply I received from Samsung was:
"Thank you for contacting Samsung. As of yet, Google has not developed a fix for this fault so we may have to have the phone taken in by one of our engineers without any real guarantee it will be resolved. We could set this up for you but you may have to wait 28 days for the phone to be returned to you."
I am sorry, but I think it is unreasonable to be expected to give my phone up for a month, with no guarantee the issue will be sorted, just to be able to use a facility Samsung state is already available on the phone when it is clearly not.
I am inclined to believe this is an Android problem, and therefore would really appreciate any advice/a fix/solution anyone on here may be able to offer.
Thank you.
This problem - or lack of a solution - is really annoying me now as no-one seems to have a fix for it. I have over the last month posted on 6 forums: Android Central, Android Forums, Android Community, Google Android Support, OHA Project Issues and XDA developers. In total the post has had over 2500 views but NO solution!
I have also submitted the issue to Samsung - they don't know how to fix it either!
Have I got the only unfixable problem ever to affect an android phone??!!
I just don't understand why the developers of both the phone and the operating system can't solve a problem in their own product!
PLEASE, can anyone help?
"Have I got the only unfixable problem ever to affect an android phone??!!"
Looks like it
Thanks for all the interest. Not.
Well. I was advised to post this question on here by a couple of other Android forums, as they said you guys love trying to find solutions to this kind of thing.
But not even any interest or replies or even acknowledgement, least of all any suggestions.
Guess those Android forums just got it wrong.....
It might be true that Samsung can't do much to fix this, it's clearly a software problem and maybe it has not been fixed by Google (or maybe it has been fixed and you don't have the OS version that has the fix, i.e. Gingerbread 2.3.6/2.3.7)
I'm sorry to see that nobody replied to this yet, but the reason might be simply because nobody really knows how to fix (if possible) this problem. Again, this is a software problem and Samsung doesn't have much to do here, so you could try and flash a newer OFFICIAL rom for your Ace, as custom roms might have some other bugs. (You could try with CyanogenMod maybe?)
I hope you can find a way to make it work good luck.
Device: Samsung Galaxy Ace
Carrier: Orange Romania
OS: Android Gingerbread 2.3.3
I too have had a similar problem: when a normal contact calls it uses default ringtone... when a custom ringtone contact calls after that, the same default ringtone is used... if the custom contact calls again the custom ringtone is used.
Possible solution:
Put all ringtones in SDcard/Media/Audio/Ringtones
Go to Contact -> Edit -> Ringtone -> select Sound -> browse SDcard/Media/Audio/Ringtones and select your custom .mp3 file -> Save Contact
Test to see if it works and then reboot and see if it still works.
Please reply or press Thanks button to let me know how it turned out

Thanks, but I had already tried this in the beginning, but no luck
I'm sorry to hear that... That exact method helped me. It may still have a glitch every week or so but it doesn't happen very often.
unbelievable, looks like there is truly no solution.. screw everything that Android has to offer if something as trivial as this can't be fixed.
Ok I just got the mytouch slide 4g. I need help with this phone. I know you get standard themes on it but I was wondering if I were to download some other themes for the device do I have to somehow jailbreak my phone or hack it to use them? Or can I just download the theme upload it to the phone and use?
Also my last phone was a touchpro and it was hacked and loaded with a rom when I got the device. Should I do the same for this device to use stuff? if so what are the benifits of it? what can I get or do with it?
Jailbreak is not a term that applies to Android devices, so it has no real meaning here.
Whether you have to hack it or not to add themes is entirely dependent upon what themes you get or make - so without you first having on hand the themes you want to use it's really not possible to say?
Some you can just use, others you'll have to hack it to use, it really depends on what you want.
I am not sure what stuff you are referring to about in your last paragraph, but if you want to get rid of the bloat that comes pre-loaded on the phone or install a custom ROM on the device you will have to do some manner of work to it.
How open you can make the device is dependent upon what version of software you have at this point, but you will in all cases be able to install custom ROMs on it if that is your wish.
You asked really open ended and non specific questions so it's hard to give a direct answer...
Alot of 3rd party launchers that you can find in the market have themes to choose from. I use go launcher because they have so many themes. Right now I have a steampunk theme.
How do I set notification and rintone sounds? I created a folder in my card called Media and then created 3 sub folders called Notification, Rintones, Alarms. I then went to my phone and selected the mp3 and set it as ringtone and notification. I rebooted and nothing, it does not work, Im still getting the default sounds. I even downloaded the app Ringdroid and cropped the song and set as notification and it still doesnt work. What am I missing?
Hi there,
I'm hoping all of this will make sense..
I fired up Titanium last night to restore an app I'd frozen. As I opened the app, it came up with a popup that said something about my Android account being registered to a different device. It gave me the option of keeping my current ID or switching to the previous one (which it recommended). I followed the recommendation and it did what it needed to do.
All seemed OK until this morning and I realised that I can now no longer open any of my paid for apps or games. I just get some kind of pop up saying "You are not authorised to use this app on this Android device."
I've had a quick look through the settings but there are so many, I don't know what to do.
Does anybody have any idea what I'm talking about and, if so, how I can just revert to how it was before?
Thanks
Sorry, I should point out, it wasn't my Gmail account that it recommended a change.. but some long number.. I assume some kind of UDID type thing

Every andrid phone has a android ID and
after you flash a new custom ROM your android ID changes and many applications use Android ID too like Google Music
TB provides an option to keep your android id...
This is the issue - it asked if I'd like to change it back to the old one or keep the new one. It recommended going back to the old one. I did so, and now the apps don't work. So how do I revert to how it was?
After all the years of using the G2 I really came to like its app, especially the Calendar and the Memo apps.
I already got all the G2 apps (apk and odex) but when I tried to install the two before mentioned apps on my new phone (Axon 7) the installation process failed.
I'm wondering if it even works and if so, how? Also, if it doesn't, why not?
I guess this is kind of a noob question but in these regards that's just what I am. So hopefully someone can explain how I would go about things.
Or should I be out of luck regarding what I try to do, can you suggest apps where their look and interface is similar to that of the LG G2 apps, especially the calendar and its split screen with month on top, event overview on the bottom?
I was trying not to make a new thread, but couldn't find an existing thread to ask.
Like most of us, I've been tinkering around with the custom ROMs on here. So far the life cycle has been C.44, to Nameless, back to C.44, to Lineage, back to C.44, and to C.61. The device controls, in the lockscreen / QS tiles, is what I'm having issues with.
Before flashing anything, they worked fine on stock. I flashed Nameless. They also worked fine. But now, no matter what, they only populate using a custom ROM. If I go back to OOS, it's an empty menu and doesn't allow me to configure them.
I'm not sure how to fix this. I've gone into my Google account and removed all devices except what I'm currently using. If I flash back to Lineage, they come up and work. OOS, vamoose, all gone.
Any ideas?
Just actually had this happen to me on a clean install. How I fixed it is by deleting data and cache of home then deleting the app and reinstalling it (idk why it help it should be a clean install anyways). Hope that helps.

Unfortunately it isn't so easy for me. I've tried that several times, so I just spent the last hour or so deleting the home and recreating it. Still nothing. I'm at a loss. I have a hunch it has something to do with thinking I was using a pixel for a short time when I ran Nameless? Damn it's aggravating... Really used the device controls.
Omg, I thought it was just me. Yes. This is annoying as someone who is trying to make my whole house smart. This kills that momentum.
Pulled out the old 5t running AICP, and there they were, the device controls, available to add and use. This has to be something related to OOS specific implementation of the lockscreen / power menu, I can't seem to find the add / edit controls menu anywhere.
So I've reached out to Google support and didn't really get anywhere. Guess I'll try OnePlus next.

4:37:28 AM Brian: Brian joined the conversation
4:37:29 AM Lien: Hi! Welcome to Google Home support. My name is Lien. For future reference, your case ID is 7-1769000032851. How are you today?
4:37:53 AM Brian: I'm fantastic, and you?
4:38:46 AM Lien: Hi Brian! I'm doing great! Thanks! I see that you have some concerns about something that I don't understand. LOL
4:39:08 AM Lien: Are you some kind of a Developer?
4:39:21 AM Brian: Lol, understandable, not many are into the custom ROM scene. No I'm not a developer, just a user.
4:39:33 AM Brian: So. Basically, I have a OnePlus 9 phone
4:39:45 AM Brian Fielding: And I can run the stock software that shipped on it
4:40:08 AM Lien: I'm sorry to interrupt, Brian.
4:40:12 AM Brian: Or I can go through a technical process of unlocking the bootloader and loading a homebrew custom android.
4:40:33 AM Brian: But right now I have put the phone back to stock from the factory
4:40:40 AM Lien: Do you have any concerns about Google Home speakers or displays by any chance? Just a quick heads up that my expertise is with technical concerns about Google Home speakers and displays.
4:40:54 AM Brian: It's with the device controls
4:41:03 AM Brian: When you hold the power button
4:41:10 AM Brian: Your smart devices show
4:41:16 AM Brian: And you can control them
4:41:46 AM Brian: Or you can slide down the notification shade and there's a tile for the device controls
4:42:02 AM Brian: So, I guess app support is what I need
4:42:13 AM Lien: yeah I have that on my phone when I slide down the notification shade.
4:42:58 AM Brian: Right. When I go in to try and add / edit controls and reorder them, etc, I have no option to add any, none of them show anymore
4:43:22 AM Lien: I'm not pretty sure if we have a department that can help you with your concern. Isn't that an Android thing?
4:44:55 AM Brian: Yes, technically it is. I'm just so confused, ive factory reset the phone, done pretty much everything I know , even remade the home. A few other people have reported the issue on the phone site we share custom stuff on, XDA, and they said that clearing the app and cache for the home app fixes it but it doesn't for me
4:46:00 AM Lien: I see. Well, we have a support website. That might give you some ideas. support.google.com
4:46:53 AM Brian: Ok, thank you. I think I will reach out to OnePlus, I suspect this may be with how they chopped up and customized their version of Android.
4:48:31 AM Lien: Sounds good! You're welcome! I hope I was able to assist you today. Is there anything else I could possibly help you with for now, Brian?
4:48:43 AM Brian: No, thank you
4:48:46 AM Lien: Alrighty! Stay safe! Cheers!
4:48:47 AM Lien: Thanks for contacting Google! Have a great day!
