waited long for this! tried it on my hero- works! both wifi and 3g.. still under development but does the job.. check fring out!
oh, and its not skype lite btw
Very very very very buggy, doesn't log in half the time, other half doesn't show 90% of my Skype/MSN contacts as being online, when I know they are.
Has potential but needs a ton of work.

i agree, except for the fact that you cannot make calls on skype.. well, at least on my hero
Nimbuzz lost support for Skype a while ago. They (or Skype, I don't remember) sent out an email out when the support was removed where they stated that it was because of issues with the quality/performance of the video calls through the Skype network. So, Nimbuzz doesn't support Skype. BUT IT'S A GREAT APP. I use it daily.

Has anyone been able to port the verizon skype app over to another phone? I would love to get rid of this stupid skype lite crap. They made a big mistake by only releasing to verizon
skype is tied to verizon like sprint tv to sprint, as far as i know that cant happen =[, thats why they cant use wifi while on skype
try Fring, it's in the Market, works not only with Skype (over Wifi AND 3G), but a bunch of other IM networks

When I used fring I had problems where I would say something and it would take seconds to reach the other side...the usual lag I had when over 3G was about 2-3 seconds at worst and 1 second at best. The Skype lite app doesnt give me that kind of lag
nobody seems too bothered.

Skype Lite is what people are rebelling against. Because it sucks.
Hello! I just switched from (i dont really remember what rom i was using) over to DarthLegend HTC Hero Rom and i cannot seem to find the Skype app in the Market. I have tried some other apps like Fring and Nimbuzz but those go through every single message i have sent and received and they dont support conference chats. Can somebody send me a link to the file?
goto 2 shared . com and click search and then put skipe.apk and there ya go!!!
Will this work for all networks and Android handsets? Can you send text messages with it?

I wouldnt of thought so, theres only 2 official apps I believe there's the verizon one which will only work with verizon and then theres the three UK version which only works on android 1.5 and the three network
Look at this thread
oops .
So Nimbuzz or Skype are our only options it seems like?

here is Skype apk i pulled from the Market back in December '09... I only installed it for a couple days to play with it, but happened to back up the apk before uninstalling it from the device...everything worked well, as i recall... enjoy...
Does anybody know if that apk would work on a t-mobile google nexus one? Thanks to whoever replies.

I didn't know that T-Mobile blocked Fring... I was actually on it using wi-fi last day and it was awesome to be able to use Skype on it without using my minutes!
the old unsupported skype lite (beta) app is still functioning, but not 100% sure on how long. it allows you to talk to your skype contacts, and msg your skype contacts, but it does use your minutes when you are talking to your skype contacts.
So, has anyone tried this with 2.2?
Shows contacts but no way of making a VOIP call
going to try this app out with my N1, thanks for posting it!
Skype V.2.0.0.47 for Andriod:
http://4pda.ru/forum/dl/post/1065791/signedSkype20047new.apk
so i have no idea why but on elegancia rom i cannot get FIM to connect ever over wifi or data and my login is always correct.
i tried palringo and it let me sign in once but then always gets a not authorized error.
so right now i cant use facebook chat on my phone and it sucks.
any other apps or maybe a fix?
Did you try Palringo?
re-read my post
Most of the really nice ones cost money...Like Agile Messenger and IM+...
You can try Nimbuzz...worked better for me than Palringo and its freeware...

Sorry I couldnt help more, glad at least ya got something running.
Cheers!
blahh. it only appears to work on wifi.
facebook keeps giving me messages about someone in the uk trying to sign in so apparently palringo and nimbuzz use a server overseas and facebook freaks out and blocks it?
try this.....
what makes that one different? it just worked over wifi for me.
and worked over edge, weird thing is i had to change internet networks. t mobile internet didnt work, my isp didnt work. but finally t mobile data did.
thanks alot!
if you go to m.aol.com and download AIM it has facebook built into it

Hi!
I can't see an app for Windows Mobile, when choosing device HTC it just shows alot of Android devices
Ive had this phone for 3 weeks now and ive become frustrated with the lack of video call apps this phone has. Tango sucks, yahoo doesnt have ffc support, fring sucks, and skype doesnt have ffc support. All it says is coming soon for gingerbread. they are trying to develop a script hack over here to get it working early but i havent heard a update on it. do we really have to wait for verizon to get their working version first in order to pull the apk from it or something?
Or is there a PC to android video call app i looked over in the market.
yahoo messenger works with live video (tried from SGS I9000 to PC)
the video unfortunately it only works in froyo 2.2
it's not yet updated to support 2.3

ok so that doesnt help me none. 2.3 is pretty much useless right now.
Just out of interest what dont you like about Tango, I thought it ok although it was my first foray into video calling

you cant "tango" with people on a computer.
Ahh I see, have you emailed the dev to ask them if this could be implemented?
T-Mobile's flavor of Qik now supposedly supports the SNS....is there a PC client for this? If so I'm also interested.
I am looking for a Skype support video. I done some research and I installed the leaked one for the thunder and don't let me to install. Any solution?
Is there any news on this? I am due an upgrade, and would really like the Sensation, but i need Skype video calling to work!
I thought you answered my question JK. I really get tired of looking. Nothing work at all nothing support video chat or nothing every chat I downloaded just normal chat. Hopefully someone get with an a solution. From what I read online 2.3 does not support any video chat at this time. But there is some program you can use for video calling not chat like Tango. The thing I am really wishing is Android to have video calling by default like Nokia which when you call a number it asks you voice calling or video calling. Android is great but need a lot of work. At this point iPhone is so much better more than any Android phone out there. I really start to hate Android in general there is no support at all, Nothing growing. Everything is fixing bugs Ubuntu it's great but never complete like Windows or Mac OS. But we don't have any choice for right now just wait and maybe the companies will support and upgrade their apps.

I believe you need android 2.3.4 for video to work on skype and gtalk
Skype just updated it's app in the market to add vid support for "some" phones, but the sensation is not on the list yet. Anyone try out the new update?
hmmm seems skype video isnt working on sensation...
but on sgs pages of xda-dev someone patched video support in for sgs and sgs2...
maybe some dev can check out if this is possible for sensation too...
cheers...
