Note Taking Program ~ Finger Friendly - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Guys,
I'm looking for a decent 'Note Taking Program' and was wondering what you would recommend for the HD2?
What I need is something that I can drop into the favorites on the Home Tab.
Some of the Note Taking Programs don't appear to look 'finger friendly' so I suppose that would have to be the main criteria.
Thanks in advance.

I've been just using the inbuilt Notes app to draw/write my notes. Not perfect, but it gets me by for the time being. until someone creates a good touch based one.

Are you talking of the OneNote App?
Only trouble with OneNote for the Phone is it's not a 'finger-friendly' application (as in I can't find a way to draw directly on the screen).
Thanks..

I think he means notes
( think its in a folder called Outlook, otherwise /windows )

it's not that brilliant on the HD2, but you can get by with it.
I was going to suggest PhatPad, I mean c'mon what could *sound* any more finger friendly? but it's not that good

Yes... I agree with both Nighthawk and your good self. It's not that good of a program.
You can't really do any 'finger-writing' properly unless you have the zoom at max (which then hampers it's use as a quick note taking program).
Nice to have the audio recorder there though...... but ohh do I so wish there were something better.

Would to know one as well!!! Need to take notes!

Think this may be what you are looking for! Very simple, very small file size, very finger friendly and freeware plus it looks alot better on our HD2's than what it looks like on the authors web site! Cab attached.

You can get evernote for windows mobile. I'm just about to try it out.

As in use your finger to draw notes?

I just saw this, might be of interest. Grabbing it now, I've attached the trial version.

I am buying this right now.

Agree......Nice one Nighthawk.
I too have been searching for a much friendlier art tool. This could well be it.
I know we are going off-topic here (deserves it's own topic) but one thing I like is it's not cluttered, quite simplistic but very good at dynamic drawing.
The only thing I have noticed that needs addressing is when you role back any mistakes (unlimited Undo), any ink that was drawn on screen outside of the 'Undo' box is left on screen and you can't get rid of it.
Did you notice this too Nighthawk?
Edited:
I've just sent off a message to DynaInk Support explaining the above problem.

It is sort of strange. When I was using WM5, the OneNote can draw. In fact it defaults to draw. So everytime I need to switch mode to type text. Now in HD2, I can't find a way to draw anything.
PS: the version I currently have on WM5 is 12.0.4518.1010; the version that came with HD2 is 12.0.4518.1155. However, neither of them can draw! I am still trying to dig up where I got the draw-able OneNote on WM5.

in my post you were replying to.

But maybe I was mistaken. The drawing application I used was the Outlook Note program, which also exists on HD2. However, the line drawings are very ugly.
While trying to use EverNote again (last time I tried it on Windows), I notice the forum messages on EverNote for WM and decided I had better stay away from this software.

New User Interface

Hello,
Pointui.com has launched a new user interface, similar like iphone and its free.
Check out a detail review over here.
Nice!
Looks very promising. But I think it will be a real memory eater. Can't wait to see the first reviews.
Interface
interesting, looks very nice. apparently, they will release their first version at midnight today. can't wait 00.00 and by the way, i wish u all a happy happy new year with out beloved wizards

It does look nice, but you realize that was a demo, right? I'd like to see a real demo with an actual running copy of it with a real finger using it. As far as I could tell, thats just a flash (or similar) example.
BTW the website (with countdown clock) is at http://there-is-no-place-like-home.com/
mfrazzz, if you want to know for sure then go and download it
It's now available.
BTW: I'll retract my above statement after watching this video:

Thanks and it looks very slick and is very responsive. I have issues trying to setup my home location for weather though. First, I find it odd that USA is seperate from North America . Then when I select Colorado and choose a letter (C for example) it first loaded the B's. Then I exited out and came back in (as it kept showing B) and did it again. Choose C again and it loaded W's...
Still this look very impressive. Are we allowed to cook this into roms?

Hi mfrazzz, sounds like you are hitting the right of the screen in the area that activates bookmark scroll try clicking in the center or to the left.
In the future it would be great if you guys want to burn it into roms, but if I was you I would wait for a few bugs to get sorted out. We are going to be spending the next few weeks working through issues that have already been raised in our forums.

Yeah, I think my problem is I'm doing quick and light presses. I need to get the feel of this, but if I do a more firm press its selecting thing properly. So I think this is a case of user error in learning this

Yep, fully understand.
Quick question... Is there anyway to get to the Apps that are located in the Start Menu? (\Windows\Start Menu) . This seems to show apps starting at \Windows\Start Menu\Programs . So by default things like Office, Contacts, etc are not available (unless I'm missing something again).
On first blush, I'm impressed so far. Now people need to rewrite the apps underneath so they are more finger friendly too

Its really useful, but theres is some of the thing that is missing in it, if intigerated than it would one of the most useful program a winmo user will ever need. I will write a review on it may be tommorow check my blog.
This looks freaking sweet. There is one thing that I noticed though. Kinetic/Touch scrolling is normally done opposite in the direction of scroll so that the text/image follows the direction of your movement. This seems to bg going in the direction of scroll. Is there a setting to change this?

You can change this. Hit your settings button (upper right gear symbol) The change it to object navigation from slide naviagation)
Also for those that can't close programs. Hit the program name (of the app you have open)in the upper left, then choose force close. So far i have only seen this not work on the phone screen which you have to minimize.
I really like this interface and it's a keeper for me. The only issues i really have is #1) Reoccuring appointments do not show and #2) it defaults to outlooks e-mail instead of the account switcher. i don't use the outlook e-mail, instead i check 2 pop accounts. My work around for now is to add a shortcut to messaging to the startup and access it there.
If anyone has a work around for the above, please post it.
GREAT APP though!
Hi ROCOAFZ, version 1.01b is going to be available soon which allows for an alternative email store - you can specify a different store name and the unread email indicator is the total for all your email accounts. Won't have a screen to update it at this stage - just a registry val to set, but with a bit more time...
1.01b is going to be the first mass test of Update Manager. Man, I hope it works
Recurring appointments - on the list, but don't expect it within the next few days - we're back to day jobs as of tomorrow and presently spending time trying to tackle some of the bigger bugs. Actually, we are spending our time trying to keep up with our forum and getting no coding done
Glad you like it.
Hi everybody,
I have written a detail reveiw of pointui home here check it out.
well i just install it on my phone and i think it's a lovely app. run fairly smooth on my wizard. kinda lag on the switching of viewing mode, unlike the video. beside that i love.

Excel mobile is crap. Any alternatives?

I use my HD2 mainly for business use. And a functional spreadsheet is a must.
With capacitive touch screen Microsoft Excel mobile is TOTALLY UNUSABLE.
Yesterday I was checking "Numbers" of Apple, and that is how a spreadsheet on a capacitive touch device should be.
Any alternatives for the HD2?
nothing?
Do a google search for "Windows Mobile Spreadsheets". Probably won't find anything but you never know until you try.
Try with Softmaker Office...
http://www.softmaker.com/english/ofp_en.htm
That looks good and free. Try it out and
report back to us how it works out. I use a spreadsheet some so would be interested how it does. Thanks!
Huh dont understand that. Excel Mobile works absolutely fine for me (and i use it a lot)... Im sure you will complain about any other software as it wont support Pinch-to-zoom like the original one does
another alternative: Docs2Go
Softmaker looks promising... I'm going to give it a go

Polaris Office app

I feel I should tell people who do a lot of word, ppt, excel that the Polaris Office app that comes preinstalled on TF is much SUPERIOR to quickoffice hd pro that supposedly is designed for tablets. The words are mixed up and ppt sides that I use in my word documents don't show up clearly on quickoffice, but they run perfectly fine on Polaris, so don't rush into buying an office suite for your TF, because Polaris gets the job done well.
Thanks for passing that info on. One reason I want a TF over the Acer or Xoom is because it comes with that software.
hi there. have you guys have any idea how to insert an image (eg from my gallery) into an excel spreadsheet in the said app? There dont seem to be any option to do that. I even searched the Polaris website for help, but to no avail.
For everyone interested, I just this morning updated my Office Suite comparison over in the XOOM forum to include Polaris Office (PowerPoint only for now). The link is in my signature. I will update the Word and Excel comparison soon.

That's a big negatory. All the pages are there but calcs between them do not work. Same issue with DTG. I have not tried quickoffice yet so I do not know if this feature works with it.
To confirm I'm talking about gdocs that I pull down, I have not created a spreadsheet from scratch to try the calc across sheets with PO.

Well that sucks...it's a pretty important feature.
I'm using it for work and it does work well. I wish you could create and save to dropbox folders then have them sync properly. Polaris needs to write to the dropbox api or dropbox needs to add support for file moves and creation to android.
I admit that I am not the best speller. Thus I wish there was spell and grammar check.

Open the document, go into Edit mode and then double-tap into the text. You'll see something like two pins enclosing selected text. Use the "Ribbon" to copy/cut/paste.
Thanks!

Not sure that's possible with any of the current apps. They are very limited in their functionality; the devs don't seem to expect tablet users to do serious work :-|

Polaris would be great if I was able to paste text into the app that was copied from other apps. It looks as though this was possible prior to 3.1, but is broken now. That's a pretty big requirement for me.

Polaris is terrible if you use Google Docs.
QuickOffice is the ONLY application that will let you freely edit Google Doc spreadsheets as if you were on a PC.
Otherwise Polaris is a nice app, if you don't use Google Docs. At all.

Looking for a signature app, is there one?

Maybe I worded that wrong but I want an app to where you could pull up something on your screen and use a stylus like a pen and write your name and date on, then save and print it later.
If there is something like this out there then my transformer is now my Ultimate Business Companion and the poster is my new best friend!

Is there a similar app which allows you to capture a client's signature as well, without costing $15/month for a subscription?

Couldn't you just hand the tablet and stylus to the client right after you sign and ask the client to sign, much like you would with a paper form? ezpdf is also a good app if the document is in pdf format.

[Q] EPUB reader which can ...

show links in a pop-up.
Basically, I have a number of EPUB files that I'd like to read. Most of them have links for footnotes etc. I would like to have a reader which can show the content of the link such as a footnote in a small pop-up window instead of going to the location. I have found it hard to navigate back to where I was the link is clicked.
Moon+ Reader on Android does this - for a reference.
Anyone know of a reader for Windows 8/ Surface RT that can do this?
Thanks!

Agreed. I'd love to see JW library take advantage of the snapping feature.
I do like how you can look up scriptures from almost anywhere in the JW Bible Reader. I wish it would overlay the scripture instead of opening the NWT. That way, you could read the scripture and go back to whatever you were doing.
