I am having problems installing google maps nav. on my g1. I downloaded the navigation zip file to my desktop that contained the part 1 and 2 bat files. I am having trouble running the bat files. I cant find a really good guide to doing this. It says to extract the zip to your desktop. How do you run the bat files and what files do you put on the sd card?
i followed this thread.. pretty simple and painless and do it right on the device! hope it helps

i finally got it to work. I found another thread that helped. I appreciate the advice though. Got another problem: nav works great but now i cant make a call using google voice, and my cyanogen mod was downgraded from 424 to 4231?

i cant get any weather-data.
does anybody know how i can fix this problem?
thanks for your help
im really a newbie and searched all the forum. ive read over 200 posts in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187 because i thought it would be the right forum and used the search function over 7 hours. but i dont get the answer to my question. if somebody just would send me the link it would be great. ive downloaded a lot of stuff to fix this problem in this forum, but my problem is that i dont know whats excacly the answer to the problem and i dont want to crash my tilt. its my first windows mobile device.
I'm going through something similar, if I understand you correctly.
You installed N2A's fix to be able to get weather data on custom locations? When you say that you can't get any weather data do you mean just for the new location you created or is it the same for any other location in the default list?
I also have the same problem. anyone know how to get local weather on the HTC home working?
Me Too
I would like the local weather too.
i got the same problem with my wizard, i just done a hard reset.. x)..
I've managed to get this working perfectly thanks to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187&highlight=weather+htc+xml
I'd followed the guide before to install the patched version of HTC Home provided, but as has happened to other people my icons got messed up. It also stopped the backlight changing shortcut in HTC Home from working (I tried a few of the patched versions and none seemed to like the backlight).
In the end I found it much better just to patch the htchome.dll file on the version already installed on my Kaiser, following the guide at the bottom of http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/ linked from the first post in the above mentioned thread. That way I got to keep things exactly how they were and how I like them with the added advantage of working weather info.
I then set the attributes of my patched dll to System and Read Only and removed Archive to match the attributes of my original htchome.dll in my Windows folder. I was able to replace the file using Resco Explorer - it asked if I wanted to overwrite the existing file and then warned me that the file was in the ROM and replacing the file could break my device. I confirmed the overwrite and told it I was sure I wanted to write the patched dll to ROM and it all worked out very nicely.
I'm using Dutty's 2k8 ROM (v3 final) and my htchome.dll file shows version 2.0.814.722. Here's a copy of my patched dll for anyone that wants to use it - I strongly suggest only using it if you're using the same ROM as me and the version number is the same. I've no idea what would happen if you tried to replace a different version and I won't be held responsible for anyone trying it .

Works perfectly thanks a million. I always wanted the weather to wok
i have looked and tried for the last 2 hours to sign this stupid exe and cannot do so. i took parts from the fuze .exe and moved it into the 1.1 exe. this works on my rom where other versions gave a c++ error also the versions that did not give this error had horrid graphics. so if i can get this signed i think i may have solved a problem. i just need to be able to install via cab and it needs to be signed to do so. the file works perfectly if you just copy it to your phone manually and run it. thanks in advance
If you search for "File Editor Suite", you will find a short thread that has a zip-file with reshacker, a signer (msigner?), an unsigner, and one other gizmo that I can't recall right now.
You may need to unsign first, do your modifications, then re-sign. I think it's a pretty trivial thing to do (haven't done it myself-I just use reshacker).
Edit: you may be trying to use msigner already. If not, hope this helps.
i have tried signer.exe and signtool.exe through dos and neither worked. i will search for what you mentioned.
msigner is the same tool, did not work
I would like to change the gTask widget skin on Nexus.
Can anybody tell me where the file ( i suppose its .png) is located?
Assuming you're talking about the gTasks Beta by SSI, they're in com.ssi.gtasksbeta.apk\res\drawable
These 5 .png's
widget_border_bg_normal.png
widget_frame_complete.png
widget_frame_complete2.png
widget_frame_land.png
widget_frame_land2.png
thanx a lot, i will search for it..think that´s all I need
Edit: i´m searching for that with AndExplorer, but cannot find those files...
Am I using the wrong thing to search for it?..or is there are way to access those files via PC?

Install gTasks on your phone. Plug your phone into your pc. Hopefully you have adb set up correctly. If not, there's plenty of threads on how to do so.
Code:
cd desktop
adb remount
adb pull /data/app/com.ssi.gtasksbeta.apk com.ssi.gtasksbeta.zip
Extract com.ssi.gtasksbeta.zip to own folder. Change your files. Zip back up to com.ssi.gtasksbeta.zip. Rename to com.ssi.gtasksbeta.apk. Resign with Stericsson's auto-sign tool. Uninstall previous version from your phone. Place your new version somewhere in /sdcard. Install via Astro or other FM. Your new app will not update from the market. You'll have to do this to every version you want to use.
Thank you veeeery much!!
This is the perfect way!
I love this ADB stuff, it works so easy, when you know how (am doing screenshots, to not forget )
Unzipped gtasksbeta on my PC..
Now I have to read about the auto signing thing, found lots of threads about that!
Thanks again!
Ok, new to all this. I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 CDMA. I flashed to an Energy Rom, looks great. Now... How do I load other software... games and such? I have looked around here, thinking it would be part of the first post, I was wrong. Perhaps this site is too advanced for that? If so, point me to a newbee site and off I shall ride. Thanks in advance for your help. This phone is awesome, and the Energy rom I loaded, looks sweet.

well. there is the microsoft marketplace. or .cab files.
.cab file instructions...
one. download application's .cab file. suggested list of applications can be found here.
two. move the .cab onto your phone's storage card.
three. on your phone, navigate to the .cab file with file explorer, or other like program.
four. open .cab file.
five. choose installation location. device or storage card.
six. select install.
seven. enjoy.
and i havent ever used marketplace before...
i always find the .cab file.
sh4d0w86.
Not to make fun, but it is pretty surprising the you are able to unlock the phone and reflash the OS, but can't install software.
If you search this site, Microsoft Marketplace, or just do a Google for "Windows Mobile freeware", you'll find many thousands of apps. Find the app you want, copy or download the .CAB file to the TP2, and execute it.
For example, Google "Google Mobile Maps", download the Windows Mobile .CAB file, and run it.
Thanks
Well, the instructions to flash a phone are detailed and many. One problem I had was I was dropping the 7zip file onto the phone. Also, I could not unzip the file with the extension of 7z because I did not have the correct unzip manager. Another issue was I was trying to Sync the programs to the phone. Thanks for clearing it up. Is there a logical place to put them on the phone to make them run fast? Thanks in advance.

Installing to main (internal) memory is much faster than installing to the SD (external) memory. Installing large programs to the SD card is the general rule of thumb for obvious reasons. It's up to you where you prefer to install them.
If you mean where should you put the actual *.cab files, then you could always delete them once they've been installed. You don't need them again unless you're going to flash constantly. It's always good to back them up, so storing them on your PC or the SD card would be preferable.
Thanks a bunch!
well, check out this thread..........
cabs just load on the phone and run like any program, just find the file and click it. exe's need to run from windows (regular computer) and install through activesync.

Excellent Thread!!!!!!!! I too made all those mistake and diddn't know how to load .cab files. This is my first foray into modding phones so this thread was quite informative.
Hey everyone!
On the rom I currently use there are about 20 apk's I have no need for. What I do is download the rom, and individually delete the apk's before flashing the rom. The thing is I flash quite often (cheeky, I know ) and this is getting quite frustrating.
Ideally I want a script that does this all for me. I found one but it seems be for running on the phone, after the apk's have been installed. Does anyone know how I can create a script for the PC that does this before I even install the rom?
Thank you for any suggestions.
Oh and here's the thread I found that looked relevant...

Over what OS?
If in Windows (or any M$ OS, incl. DOS) you can make a batch file.
My file is adjunted as example (modify as you like, put in the root dir -obviously to the unzipped ROM- and run. Rezip and maybe re-sign)

Thank you. This is exactly the kind of thing I am after. If I had of been born just a few years earlier I would probably know all about batch scripts. Fortunately, I just missed the DOS days!
Anyway, I puzzled out / looked up the commands in the script you posted. Based on that I extracted the rom, then placed the batch file within it, so that the cd (current directory) command runs correctly.
Unfortunately this mucks up the signing on the rom. Do you re-sign your CM7 roms every time you do this or is there an easier way?
Edit: My PC is Win 7, 64bit, soon to be Win 8 Consumer Preview.
Edit: The roms do not need resigning.
I don't re-sign the ROM, simply flash again over Clockworkmod Recovery.. and work.
But, you can:
1) sign using Auto-Sign....
2) Click [Thanks]...

I know, I know.... my english is ****ty... but my spanish is much better... ;-)
Big thank you. That's solved that one nicely for me!
You're welcome.
Updated zip in my first Post.

Hey again. I was hoping to build on the script you kindly provided. At the moment I am using various alpha roms where the exact apk's present changes fairly often. It would be great if I could see the outcome of each action. This way I would know if the apk has had it's name changed or been removed. How would I enable this?
