home plugin - weather problem - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Windows Mobile ROM De

ive installed the weatherfix on my kaiser. everything worked fine but ive lost the other functions like buddys and sounds. so i unistall the patch and got my old home plugin back. trough this process i got another problem:
i cant get any weather-data.
does anybody know how i can fix this problem?
thanks for your help

im really a newbie and searched all the forum. ive read over 200 posts in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187 because i thought it would be the right forum and used the search function over 7 hours. but i dont get the answer to my question. if somebody just would send me the link it would be great. ive downloaded a lot of stuff to fix this problem in this forum, but my problem is that i dont know whats excacly the answer to the problem and i dont want to crash my tilt. its my first windows mobile device.

I'm going through something similar, if I understand you correctly.
You installed N2A's fix to be able to get weather data on custom locations? When you say that you can't get any weather data do you mean just for the new location you created or is it the same for any other location in the default list?

I also have the same problem. anyone know how to get local weather on the HTC home working?

Me Too
I would like the local weather too.

i got the same problem with my wizard, i just done a hard reset.. x)..

I've managed to get this working perfectly thanks to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187&highlight=weather+htc+xml
I'd followed the guide before to install the patched version of HTC Home provided, but as has happened to other people my icons got messed up. It also stopped the backlight changing shortcut in HTC Home from working (I tried a few of the patched versions and none seemed to like the backlight).
In the end I found it much better just to patch the htchome.dll file on the version already installed on my Kaiser, following the guide at the bottom of http://weather.not2advanced.com/files/ linked from the first post in the above mentioned thread. That way I got to keep things exactly how they were and how I like them with the added advantage of working weather info.
I then set the attributes of my patched dll to System and Read Only and removed Archive to match the attributes of my original htchome.dll in my Windows folder. I was able to replace the file using Resco Explorer - it asked if I wanted to overwrite the existing file and then warned me that the file was in the ROM and replacing the file could break my device. I confirmed the overwrite and told it I was sure I wanted to write the patched dll to ROM and it all worked out very nicely.
I'm using Dutty's 2k8 ROM (v3 final) and my htchome.dll file shows version 2.0.814.722. Here's a copy of my patched dll for anyone that wants to use it - I strongly suggest only using it if you're using the same ROM as me and the version number is the same. I've no idea what would happen if you tried to replace a different version and I won't be held responsible for anyone trying it .

Weird problem with my ROM...

Hi guys!
I started to create my own roms about a month ago. First I added only one little program to learn how to cook roms and how everything works. I went on and added some registrytweaks and still everything went fine.
But since yesterday my phone (or my stupidity?) is driving me crazy...
I grabbed a copy of .mUns ROM (thanks for your great work! [I use this rom only for own use]) and dumped its content.
The first thing I did was removing some apps which I never use. For example the Autoupdate. Then I added several applicationfiles into the dump directory, changed some registry values and finally edited the initflashfiles.dat file. I build my rom and flashed it.
Normally the phone shows the welcome screen with the text "Tap the screen to start....." after the first boot. But right now it doesn't show this text to me... I just see the welcome screen without any text... and right here I'm stuck and I don't know why!
Is there a problem with my initflashfiles.dat or are there some wrong values in the registry?
Please try to help me. I checked the initflashfiles.dat and registryfiles several times but couldn't find any problems...
Greets, Vi
PS: If there's someone who wants to check the files, just tell me and I'll upload them.
1) did you remove 2 bytes from iniflashfiles.dat?
2) probably you've deleted something usefull
3) did you edit hv files correctly?
1) yes, I did it with WinHEX
2) I think I didn't, because I deleted the same files as I did with other Roms
3) Yes... Last line blank and Unicode. DO they need to be read-only?
Any other suggestions?
I'm just about to throw my wizard out of the windows... :-/
I got it...
I don't know how, but I got it

HTC Home plugin not using Windows directory (quicker)

Hello
I noticed that many installations of HTC Home plugin put their files in Windows directory. This leads to speed problems.
It is better to use the version which puts its files into a separate directory HTCHome.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1388377&postcount=609
Mirek
I thought all rom files went into the \Windows directory and that only via initfiles.dat (I think that's the file) would files be copied elsewhere (ie, using up double the space).
Please, correct me if I am wrong. Also, how do you put ROM files in a location other than \Windows?
I've re-heated a couple ROMS with the update HTCHome plugin that uses a server other than htc.accuweather.com because TMob has problems with it. It orginally pointed to \HTCHome for some of the files so I had to change the HTCHome.dll to use \Windows instead otherwise I would need to copy those needed files to \HTCHome which was a waste of space. I don't notice any slowness with it running from \Windows though. YMMV.
Using other location then Windows is good when adding the plugin later (I mean when it is not part of the original ROM).
HTC Home plugin has many files and when these are added to Windows it slows down significantly booting times/showing the content of Windows directory.
I think that if the plugin is part of the ROM there is not the speed problem. I had it as part of a Whiterat's ROM and it was ok.
But installing HTC Home which puts its files to Windows to TNT 4.0 rom (which does not have it) lead to a lot of problems...
The above mentioned version is ok - I installed it on TNT 4.0 without having any problems.

tekknogenius, can you please share your .dll so that those of us who want to use the weather server workaround on T-Mobile, can do so on other cooked roms?

I disabled the HTC Home plug-in, then overwrote the existing HTCHome.dll, but when I go to re-enable it, it is no longer in the list of Today items.
I tried to enable it manually through the registry, but no luck

MiniWeather for the VOX

Hey guys... just released a new chome weather version that should work with the VOX also. Can somebody give it a shot ?
I can't seem to get it to install,
Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have sufficient system permissions.
I'm using version 3 of Zeeshee ROM.
Cheers,
Same for me! Same rom. Btw, both weather progs delete my clock icon and blackscreen is not possible to load. (mini with dr.gonzo 6.1 rom)
Everything works!
Extract from cab all files for Windows directory and place them into the device.
Delete this files from cab and save cab.
Modify cab working.
Works brilliant .. Thanks a lot keep it up ... i like the background on the pictures what you post there . it will be great if you send it as well . cheers
I'm being stupid here.
I still can't get it to work.
Can someone upload the modified cab please.
Thank you.
Unzip attached file.
Copy files from 'Windows' (archive) to 'Windows' (device).
Copy cab to device and run it.
Reboot.
Enjoy!
Excellent!
Thank you for posting.
Regards,
Anyone have a screen shot of what it looks like?

Thank you it works perfect now.
Got it to work, sort of, so please help.
weather.yahoo.com gives me NLXX001 as code
Doesn't seem to do anything
(And so is c>f not working)
Are we still using weather.yahoo.com as source?
I had already installed the original MiniWeather on my on my vox (Orange E650) and all was OK except that in portrait mode the weather image didn't show on the clock tab whereas it did in portrait mode. So I decided to install the vox version to see if it would be fixed.
Unfortunately I've found that the files can't be copied over to the device's Windows folder because Resco says they already there as read-only files in ROM and therefore cannot be overwritten. So after installing the 1.0b CAB I get the following error when I initially select options:
Unknown command: "nu=timestamp"
Line 13(\program files\nrg\chomeminiweather\SetOptions.mscr):nu=TimeStamp()
Is there anything that can be done? Would the clock/weather Image have been fixed anyway? If not I'll revert to the previous version
Thanks and nice program !!!
can someoene post a home screen to show how this should look. Its messed up on mine i believe I get 2 panels - the first one works but the image is messed up. The second one says "forecast" but in there it just says "push centre button to update, push right softkey marked options to set your options"
I had trouble copying the two chome files to the windows directory - it said I didnt have permission to copy them.
can anyone assist ?
Frottage........ It sounds like you've had a similar problem to mine above.
If you can't copy the files over the install doesn't work properly.
I've reverted to the non-Vox version and all now seems OK on my Orange E650 with Dr.Gonzo's 5.2.19195 Rom
Try using the Resco Explorer trial to copy them across. It's because the files it's trying to replace are in ROM. Resco worked on my Dr. Gonzo E650.

Extract pure OS from cooked ROM

Hi all,
Perhaps it is a newbie question so please bear with me.
I have an i-mate K-Jam flashed with TNT rom (build 20273). It works perfect and nice, however (frankly speaking) I don't like or want some of the APPs installed with this ROM, but I can't uninstall them.
I've searched this forum to find a way to extract the OS (OS only) from TNT rom so that I can flash my wizard and then install all the APPs I want, with no luck. Perhaps my search skills are a little poor...
So would someone please explain if it is possible or not? and if yes, how?
Thanks in advance.
Regards.
You cannot remove apps from a cooked rom. Search for Vanilla roms if you just want the base rom without any extras and then you can install you own apps.
well you can, but for that u'll have to dump the ROM first, remove the apps you dnt like and recook it
you can not dump the TNT roms. when you try, there are no RGU'S or DSM's.
You can dump my rom if you like, but you will get some missing files you will have to put back into the oem.
the missing files come from me not editing the rgu's when I cook.
try dumping Hornet5. for the most part you will get complete packages, but also some "missing files". just put them back into the oem/sys and recook.
Thanks for info. Saved me a lot of time.
I finally managed to cook my own rom. Everything works perfect except that:
1) I've used XIP, SYS and OEM files/folders of different builds. Am I going to have problem later?
2) "CommManager.exe" was missing. I've searched the files used in kitchen and the only thing I found is "commmanager.htm". Later I managed to download and install HTC CommManager but I can't assign in to its button (button 6). Is there any solution for that?
3) How may I extract the "splash screen" from one build, and upload it to my phone?
4) Bluetooth is not working. It says there is no bluetooth hardware on device. Also WLAN disconnects after a few seconds. How may I extract the drivers from original ROM and upload it?
I know the above questions are too much, but actually I'm so excited that my first attempt to cook a rom was successful (almost). I hope one of you experts be kind enough to help me solve the above issues and have a perfect phone.
Thanks in advance.
you will have some problems with the initflashfiles.dat in the oem, as well as the "oemtranslation.prvxml" or something which controls your icons for programs and control panel.
The best thing to do is use the same build OEM SYS & ROM folders.
If you dumped hornet 5, then your best bet ist to work with everything in it. I was working at this rom after Sleurhut for about a month or two.
mixing builds of those folders makes you start from scratch again fixing up your oem again.. and again.
as far as the missing files, try using the Xdump method; or use the searcher on your PC to find the missing files folder and the contents.
Dear S.V.I
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and help.
As I've mentioned before, I'm a total newbie trying to have a clean WM6.1 on Wizard. I've searched and read lots of tutorials here and there, but there are still lots of questions remained.
I tried to play with HyperCore (multi-device) today and I failed in the first step. I've extracted the "nk.nbf" from official i-mate KJam ROM using WinRAR. HyperCore is installed and I've a "C:\Core" folder as well as a "HyperCore" folder on my desktop.
The "DumpRom" is asking me to make sure the "nk.nbf" is in "HyperCore\Extract\Source" folder. Well it is there. Press Enter and the error message says: "There is no nk.nbf in Core\Extract\Source".
No it is not. First, it asked me to put it in "HyperCore\Extract\Source" not "Core\Extract\Source". Second, there is no "Extract" folder under "C:\Core". Even after creating Extract\Source under C:\Core and copying nk.nbf there, the same error message appears again.
So, what I'm missing here?
Same
I'm also scratching my head on this problem too. I've even tried creating extract\source folders in locations C:\core\ and desktop\hypercore\ but still no luck.
I'm wondering however that the issue could be caused by vista/7's change from Documents and Settings\user\desktop (2000, XP) to Users\user\desktop.
It may change the way the batch files are called but i'm really rusty on batch commands these days
I would start with the sticky "How to cook a ROM" thread, focusing on CRACING's kitchen, then move to Nekid Angel (Post #3)
where you will find a more updated ROM ready to cook. If you want to try WM6.5 a good ROM and kitchen is at [WM Kitchen] Wizard Kitchen or CRACING's RC6. I have been playing around with that.
You might move your discussion to one of the cooking or kitchen threads mentioned above, too, since that is where others will look.
Perfect
That's what i was looking for thanks for the heads up N2rjt!

[MOD] HTC Flashlight, no demo at startup

The HTC Flashlight app isn't bad. It looks fancy at least, and I see it's included in many ROMs, so it must do something better than TorchButton (my other baby).
Anyway, when you start HTC Flashlight, you get that annoying demo you have to wait for before you can use the app. Well, it's annoying to me at least.
Attached in the .zip is a fixed .exe in which the demo is skipped. The rest works like it does normally (light is turned on immediately at the middle setting). Just replace the original .exe with this one. If it's cooked into the ROM, you may not be able to overwrite it. Just put it somewhere else and make a shortcut then.
Btw, you can recognize if you use the modded .exe if you see FlashLight as title, instead of Flashlight (note the capital L).
Have fun.
Update march 7th
The original app can be downloaded from this thread, first post: [CAB] HTC Flashlight
(so after that, overwrite the exe with this one)
Update march 8th
Updated the attached .zip with a signed version of the executable, which prevents problems to run the fixed exe on stock roms and a number of custom roms.
aho77 made an updated cab wish signed version to install the whole thing, can be downloaded from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=5817414#post5817414
Also attached is the certificate used to sign the executable. You shouldn't have to install this, but I provided it just in case.
Wow... this is PERFECT!!!! Dankje man!!!
Thanks NetRipper, another annoyance gone...
Thanks!
Hey thanks m8 awesome no annoying demo ^^

You can ignore that message. Just click 'yes' to continue. (You get that message because the .exe was modified, and that's correct.)
If you want to get rid of that message forever, run this cab:

Not much point in that I think. This is just a hack for an existing app. You replace the .exe with this one. If I were to cab this, I'd have to provide the full app. I think there's like 3 dlls besides the exe normally.
[edit]
Here's you can download the original cab from, I'll add that to first post too: [CAB] HTC Flashlight (after installing that, overwrite with exe in first post)
Strange...I can't get it to run too.
I get the same error message (cannot be opened, not signed with trusted cert, component missing.) Installed the cab you provided, reset, but still the same msg. Running as standalone or copied to windows folder, same result. On official ROM 1.66 WWE.

That message always appears and I am never given the option to run the exe. it always quit. installing the cab to disable the security message didn't make any difference. I wonder if it is because of my stock 1.66 ROM Asia or Resco explorer to unzip the file.
Please help.
Thanks,

The mod should be great, but doesn't work for me neither.
I have the same problem as a above... there isn't such a option as a "YES" to continue it closed also i have installed the cab but no luck ... any idea?
Ahhh...fantastic, thanks for this!
Wondered when someone would fix this

I don't know why it's not working for you guys. Two of you reported to be using stock rom's. I've only tested this on energyrom which has htc flashlight cooked in. Maybe that's the problem.
Did the original htc flashlight app work for you guys before you tried using the patched one?
And just a short in the dark, try installing this cab with developer certificates (might need soft reset afterwards):
http://www.netripper.com/raphael/SdkCerts.cab
do I have to install this exe by itself,
or should it go where the original app was installed?
this could be the reason
Well, you overwrite the original exe with this one, or you at least place it in the same dir with a different name.
same issue here using miri 6.5 v5.0 which has flashlight cooked in.

The original one works, but the patched exe doesn't.
On stock 1.66 asia WWE rom...wonder what's the problem.
And the original exe is in the Windows directory, replace or renamed gives the same problem.
