Eirs rom on hero? - Hero CDMA Android Development

Can i put the eris rom on my hero?
thanks

ANYONE?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

what's the difference?

It would have to be ported over since it is for Verizon. And it may or may not have different hardware. I'll check it out and see what I can do with it.

alright it might work because verizon is cdma also

the only reason it wont work out of the box is prl/apn that kind of thing. There is no reason to as far as i know, they are the same rom just a tad bit customized per provider. Same reason you cant just swap roms on winmo phones between carriers

Are ROM's completely device dependant?

Basically the situation is that I have a CDMA HTC Dual (neon400, not nike) which is supposed to have the same innards as the diamond minus wifi and some ram (supposedly it may have wifi and just be locked out, who knows). Since it doesn't seem to have a large enough userbase to get ROMs of its own I was wondering if there is any way to modify either nike or diamond roms to work on it or if i'm completely out of luck?
Thanks.
roms are COMPLETELY device dependant. don't ever try to flash a rom meant for a specific device, on another.

What's involved in porting a GSM Hero rom to CDMA Hero?

Title pretty much explains it. There are (not many) but more Hero roms on the GSM side of things than the Hero. But obviously, MoDaCo took his rom and switched it over to CDMA for us. So if anyone could help that would be great.
I also have been trying to port Malign's Hero rom for the Dream over to Hero but I'm getting stuck on boot. Loads up but Rosie doesnt seem to want to load. I am trying to do this so I can learn how to port over the good roms since it doesnt seem like many devs are interested in CDMA Hero, which is understandable considering it's price and carrier.

Are you saying you know a bit of how to do this or you just want to learn as well?
I don't know the ins and outs of the apks in that ROM, but I do know step 1 - a kernel recompile.
Thankfully, HTC released their kernel changes shortly after the CMDA Hero arrived, which you can download here:
http://developer.htc.com/
You'll need the android SDK and sources for whichever version you want to build - 1.5 should be fully compatible with this kernel, not sure about 1.6, but probably not 2.0.
Unforunately HTC probably won't release their changes for 2.0 until after they dunk Eclair onto the Hero. 2.0 support may work out of the box, may require just a few quick changes, or may be broken entirely, who knows!
[edit] Thinking on this further, a kernel rebuild might not be necessary, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. You may just be able to replace the kernel/boot image in the ROM with the kernel on your Hero (or yanked out of MoDaCo's ROM). No way to know execept to do a thang.

User opinion for the best rom for Verizon's HTC TP2

I receive my replacement TP2 tomorrow for Verizon's network. Just wondering what the Verizon TP2 users feel is the best/stable rom. I know everyone's opinion is different, but I'll go with the majority for my TP2. Thanks in advance for your comments.
just be sure not to use one from the GSM forum (this one)
Use the Rhodium CDMA section
I'm also interested in this.
I want to try a rom, but only one that is stable as if it came officially and fast smooth UI too of course. But I've no idea which one would fit the bill. Same I think as the OP is looking for.
It'd be nice to have a stock 6.5 os rom to try and then it'd be neat to have another with added UI manilla or whatever that is or whatever HTC has done to their UI. Also a rom with the Sense UI on it would rock. I'd even like to try that.
I've been using SSK 3.0 for the past 3 or 4 days, and it's fast, reliable, has sense ui, and hasn't had a single problem so far.
I'd reccommend it on the Verizon tp2.
Just make sure you get the Verizon keyboard fix cab, also.
Does the SSK have the MMS issue like the Juicy rom??
Well, I'm using mine on Sprint, and I've no issues in or out with mms.
I actually just got one right after I read that lol

Im using SSK 3.0. He is making an update to his rom for this weekend. It has been working great. He has added some new apps and utilities to the WinMo 6.5 Rom. I like it and will probably stick with his roms. Ive used them through the TP and TP2.
I use both Mighty Roms and Energy Roms and they both work great.

I agree... the SSK roms are great and he supports them very well through his website...
www.sskusers.net
I've had his ROMs way back on my verizon xv6800... my current TP... and I'll use his ROMs on my new TP2 that FexEx says should arrive in the mail tomorrow
what about roms that just work? no need to install anything extra to make it work?
Might ROM for me!
Energy Leo... the best
Calk's Kitchen works without anything additional installed and gives you the option to pick from 5 builds, and it's a KITCHEN!
I seem to hear a lot of good of SSK ROM's. Does SSK ROM fix anything on the TP2? What are the known issues with it so far? SSK website doesn't list issues, just what is included. I would be interested in knowing if any of the usb modem or internet sharing problems have been fixed. I know, I have been through this in another thread, I'm just a little strapped for cash when it comes to having to buy wifi hardware. I'd rather have the usb method working if possible.
I'm no newb to WM. but I am a newb to flashing. I didn't even flash my Q9M ... afraid of bricking the dumb thing with all the horror stories I heard.
One last here, I read about flashing via memory card. Is that possible with this? Thanks

Dream devs have a Hero 2.1 dump er,... rom!

Update!!!
Looks like Drizzy and the Dream boys unwatermarked the dump and made a G1 rom out of it. I will try to talk to Drizzy and ask if I can have the unwatermarked dump but if not we should be able to re-port this back to CDMA and possibly have Hero 2.1. Just remember this wont work as well with our phone as the official one will but a little taste of an Eclair might be good
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=592568
Hey guys, didnt know if anyone saw this yet but the Dream devs have a Hero 2.1 dump. Drizzy got it and is sharing it with a couple devs but no Hero devs. Not sure why yet but Im trying to find out. I would assume it's because of watermarking and once they get that worked out then they will release it to us. Some of the Dream users don't like us because we have more ram than them (yes, thats the only reason why) but the devs over in the Dream scene are overall good guys. Drizzy, KingClick, BarakInFlorida, Crykowski and the rest are all good guys so I'm sure once they work things out we will get ahold of it. Lox_Dev (from GSM Hero) is already trying so, let's hope and pray.
Does this mean that HTC already has sense skinned on top of 2.0?? If so, does the Hero 2.1 dump you are talking about mean that we could have Sense on 2.0 before its even officially released by HTC? (And even modified and optimized on top of that?!!!) I'm really excited if any one of your answers will be "yes".
I'm new to all this stuff, but I'm really enjoying it so far! Thanks in advance for answering my questions. God bless!

Yes, pretty much. First, I just want to say that Sense is not a "skin" it is an application but more than that, it is an application framework built by HTC. That said, it looks like HTC has created a Sense for Android 2.1, which hasnt even been released yet and someone from the inside of HTC leaked it out. Now, a Hero guy (E2K) was able to get it from Drizzy apparently but we are still waiting to see if he actually got it or is bsing us.
Also, please note that usually when an HTC dump is leaked this means that it is pretty close to release. They are just sending out to testers and fixing all the bugs. This means that HTC could be giving us a Christmas present soon. Also remeber though that after HTC releases it, Sprint still needs to work their "magic" into it so it may take a little longer than normal. Also, if your phone is rooted us devs will want to make sure nobody loses root in upgrading.
OMGAD release it then ! now
thanks for clarifing
dude thank you. im so tired of everyone calling "Sense U - fu*king - I (USER INTERFACE) its a app. Just like the Adv Launcher. If you dudes could get your mind over having some cool ram additive, rather than all the ammenities of the Dream, than you would realize that you could be running 2.0 like the rest of us, rather than 1.5, and have waaaay more bad ass **** on ur phones!
Examplessss
CubeUI - Samsung Behold 2
TouchWizUI - LG EVE
SenseUI - Hero, Rooted g1's
AndroidUI - Dream, Droid, ADP1, Rogers Dream, Etc....
See its all just a different setting for a different phone .. All thus running on Android OS. Its rather simple. LOOK OUT FOR 2.1
Thanks for the answers! That's great news! I'm rooted and flashed running FRESH 0.6. I plan on NOT getting Sprints update when it comes out, but getting it from you XDA guys in some optimized/tweaked ROM without all the crap they put in to bog it down. I'm so pumped! Thanks again for the answers! God bless!

Well just because we have Sense doesnt mean we can run other roms. In fact we cant. I have tried porting over tons of different roms to Hero and they never seem to work. Sense is good too. Personally, I prefer it over Vanilla Android. Plus, the HTC apps such as messaging and whatnot are better in my opinion. Personal preference. Once optimized, Rosie flies. Sense isnt bad. I just wanted to say it's an application. Not a skin or anything.
Regardless, hopefully we will have 2.1 soon
sounds Great Im excited...God Bless
Is it really that simple though? I imagine the dump is based off the Euro(GSM) Hero.

Most likely is. But 1.6 on up has native CDMA support. Either way, Lox from the GSM dream forums says that the guy who leaked the rom to us just will not give up his source which means that if we do get this we cant release anything. Looks like we are gonna have to wait a few weeks anyway. I also was reading that Drizzy just wasnt thrilled with this build. As it is beta (or *gasp* alpha) there is too much that isnt working. Good news is we know it's coming.
http://twitter.com/Official_Drizzy/status/6156799589 "Official RUU for WWE Hero 2.1....."
Hmm.. does this mean we could possibly see a build for our CDMA Hero sooner than we thought?
Exciting news! I'll be watching this thread closely for any updates. Also, like others have said, I will be coming here for an optimized/bloatware free 2.1 from one of the awesome devs who do great work for our Heros!

Possibly, yes. One of the reasons it is so hard to port over roms to our phone is because it is CDMA. 1.5 does not have CDMA built in. For instance, try porting over any GSM rom and it wont work because HTC "hacked" in the CDMA support (i.e. built a custom driver). Since 1.6 and up have built in CDMA support the possiblity for us to make cross platform roms is a lot higher. Not saying definite. Just more possible.

Is there something "missing" from Google's 1.6 or 2.0 sources that a build of either of those prevents the CDMA Hero from running them at all? Or will they at least boot up and work with some stuff not working?
I tried installing it on my Sprint hero, well not 2.1 but the 2.0 that works on the gsm, it doesn't work.

Yeah. The kernel. I tried booting both but neither even bootup.
you still need to compile the hero cdma radio driver for android 2.x

[Q] Flashing Other Carriers Kernels?

So someone please explain to me how This Is possible. I was under the belief in my understanding of android that this is a BIG NO NO. I do realize and I may not fully understand the similarities and differences between the different versions of the SGS3 but I would think that because of the Radio being different among all of the carriers that Kernels would be totally different as well. I will reference the Fascinate and the Mesmerize for example. Pretty much the same phone but completely different as far as anything and everything development wise. So what it boils down is this
1. Can we flash kernels designed for the At&t, Sprint, or T-Mobile versions of our phone.
2.What versions of the SGS3 can we SAFELY flash Kernels from.
3.How is this possible given the differences in the different phones.(Question for my sake cause I am really curious and hope i can get a good explanation regarding this)

There have been some successful instances of sprint kernels being flashed that I've seen, but it is never a great idea to flash kernels not specifically designed for your phone. btw. there are some pretty good kernels available for vzw now
It's a pretty bad idea. There is a very small chance it could work but more than likely it won't boot

And i figured as much. I am just REALLY surprised it worked and I just kinda wanna know why it worked. The technical reasons to be honest. But to play it safe i will just stick with those kernels that have been made for the Verizon version thus far. I am still hesitant using the Sprint Kernel even knowing it works.

And based of of you saying this and me knowing this is why i ask lol. Cause like arrogant says there have been successful flashes of the Sprint Kernel. Again idk everything there is about Android but i wonder if it possible due to the fact our unlocked bootloader is partially sprint or something along those lines. That is why i was hoping someone would see this and chime in with a technical explanation and then either a go for it, no, or tread with caution. When the phone was being released there was talks of a rom kitchen being established between the carriers and i was hoping that this was a part of that. Meaning that someone who Devs for the AT&T version of the SGS3 can have their rom or kernel ported to Sprint version and then the Verizon and T-Mobile variants. Idk if the kitchen is still a possibility or in the works but it would be cool to see it kernel wise considering most are running AOSP based roms.
I tried to flash att one two days ago, can not turn wifi on....
So, not recommended

Some kernels could very well work, same as some stock themes for sprint will work with stock roms on verizon (jellybomb domination being one of them) the issue is that some things could be carried over that may not play nice with our phones and vice versa. While it may run perfectly fine, there's a greater risk that it could break something.
I have yet to run an AOSP rom because of the IMEI issues, so i can't really comment on that, but i know if i was going to flash another carriers kernel i would make sure to make a backup first.
