I'm new to the Kaiser world but have a little experience with flashing from the Hermes side of things. I used to have SSPL-HERM.exe on my 1GB SD card and would add any .nbh file image to the card, rename it HERMIMG.nbh, then run SSPL on my device to start the upgrade. Is there a solution like this for the Kaiser? I checked the wiki, searched the forums and searched the cloud without any answers. I tried using the bootloader reset with the image file (renamed as KAISIMG.nbh) on my card but I keep getting the "image file not found" flashing on the screen, then it returns to the tri-color screen.
I'd stick with running the custom ruu's but my connection keeps dropping off on my work PC before the ROM can flash. And it's just no good to have to wait until I get home to flash a new ROM, right?
Thanks in advance for the help.

What are you wanting to load, Hard SPL's or ROM / Radio images?
The KAISIMG.nbh on the Root of a FAT32 formatted SD card works for ROM / Radio / OEM SPL's (If SPL override is enabled).
To upgrade a hard SPL (If SPL override is disabled) then you can follow this post from cmonex: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420683

Mostly ROM/Radio images - I've got 3.29.Hard loaded right now and it seems to be working ok.

My card is formatted FAT32 (necessary for the Hermes flash as well) but I'll give a reformat a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the quick response.

If it is just images, just place the KAISIMG.nbh on the root and then enter the bootloader (Camera and SoftReset) and the SPL will do the rest.

I tried to reformat the card using flash format but I keep getting an error saying "exclusive access to the storage card is denied (#31)."
I also tried putting the KAISIMG.nbh on the root and resetting into the bootloader but nothing happens.
Without any further suggestions I'll grab a laptop during my lunch and reformat the card in there, then retry the SD card flash.

I use it all the time like this. Just make sure the format is in Windows (not via Resco, etc).
Oh, and I don't think it support's volume labels.

Also there have been some issues reported with Kingston 1GB cards not being recognized for some reason. I have a 1GB Kingston and I 1GB Sandisk and after reading the post I never tried the Kingston but the Sandisk works fine.
I formatted my card, dumped the image file onto it, sent the phone to bootloader and still got the same "image file not found".
By some stroke of luck I was able to run the customruu from my work pc after moving to a different USB port, once. Now I keep running into the connection dropoff that I had been seeing in the past.
By the way, the 1GB card I'm using is from ativa...
Must've been the card. I used my 4GB sdhc card with no problems what-so-ever. Chalk one up for Ativa in the these cards may not work for flashing ROM's section.
Thanks for the help everyone.
Most of you have noticed that my ROMs require flashing through the SD card. I've given out the instructions many times, but they tend to be lost in the shuffle that is day to day posting so here is a whole thread dedicated to it:
1. Format your SD card to FAT32.
2. Place HERAIMG.nbh into your SD card.
3. Hold the camera button then press the soft reset button while holding the camera button.
4. Press the down volume when it asks you to press something.
If this doesn't work, it means either:
1. Your SD card isn't fast enough. You can try partitioning the SD card so that it only has a small amount of space formatted. This can be read faster by the bootloader.
2. You don't have a HERAIMG.nbh file in your SD card.
3. Your HERAIMG.nbh was made with a small number in the "version" number.
4. Your SD is a SDHC. The driver that allows SDHC compatibility is not loaded in the bootloader. Buy a cheap little 1GB card to flash with.
3. Your HERAIMG.nbh was made with a small number in the "version" number.

No, when making the NBH you have the option of setting a version number.
In order to flash any third party ROM you need an IPL and SPL of 4.xx and to HardSPL your phone (HardSPL requires an SPL of 4.xx)
To upgrade your SPL and IPL you can try upgrading your phone with it's most updated stock RUU (Some, like HTC bring the upgrade) or you can try the GoldCard method. (Search for the word "Goldcard".)

Hi Ivan,
Just to let you know though, there must be some kind of problem. I followed the instructions and flashed through my SD the nbh (os+radio) numerous times but after the flash my Herlad always failed to boot. The flash was successful, I got a message "press any key to continue" from the bootloader and after a softreset the screen was always black with no signs of booting.
Also, just to let you know, the program that opens the htcrt.proj file fails to register and I always had to /right click/open with and then manually select the os and radio files to create the nbh.

If it fails to boot, it means that the ROM you created has something wrong in it, not that the flashing process has something wrong in it.
As far as the proj file, if you have windows Vista, it may have not set the permissions properly.
Hi.
I'm fairly new to this and I'm trying to flash a JustMe ROM. I have built both a XPR and a LZX but none of them worked. I just follow your intructions and I get to a screen with gradients of Red, Green, Blue and a white bar in the background and IPL 4.17.0001 and SPL 4.17.0000. From what I understood, something should happen now, right? Well, it doesn't.
What may be the problem?

You should not see the gradients right away.
If you followed the steps exactly, and your NBH has a version number of 5.2.xxxxx or higher: Then your SD card might not be fast enough or it might be a SDHC which won't work.
How big is your SD card?
It's a 2GB Silicon Power MicroSD. How do I check the version of my NBH?
Also, the NBH is not the only file I have in my card. Do I have to format it or if it is already in FAT32 (which it is) I don't need to?
btw, a message saying something like "Checking SD card" (something like that, couldn't see it right) appears before the gradients but only for 1/4 of second or something.

The reason I mention it is because SD cards come preformatted as FAT16.

That's where the flashing is done. If you only see it for 1/4 second, it means:
1. You didn't follow the directions (FAT32 and version number)
2. The SD card is too slow.

Yes. It was FAT32 but I reformated it anyway. It now loaded but gave me an "Invalid Certificate" error.

So the formatting was still an issue. Weird. Ok, so now it's reading it but it's not validating the certificate. Have you HardSPL'ed?
No, as I don't even know what that is. So far I have only needed the Flash Center application to flash the ROMs.

The Flash Center only works through inserting the code through Windows Mobile. Since my ROMs are flashed outside of Windows Mobile, therefore, it requires a HardSPL'd phone. HardSPL is better than the Flash Center since it protects the SPL and IPL from being overridden in a bad flash or when you accidently use a ROM that isn't meant for your phone. But, the HardSPL can be dangerous is you don't follow the install process properly as it can brick your phone.
Hum, ok. I'm quite intuitive in understanding how to hack devices so don't worry as I'll probably not brick my phone. I'll search for HardSPL and when I'm done I'll post the results.
Thanks for all the help and for your (I imagine) great ROMs.
EDIT: HardSPL'd my phone and everything is working great. Very fast ROM, I may say. Not as good-looking as the Open Touch Project I was using, but sometimes functionality is better than style.

5) Use DREADIAG.NBH that say me: 00028002
6) Qmat 4.24 say me:
a) When I click "Get SD Card Serial from Wince Device" on Omnia i900 [Win Mobile 6.1] the Omnia say: "There was a problem with device.exe"
b) If I continue, then click "Save Goldcard Image to WINCE SD", Qmat show me an Error popup that say me: "Done writing SD card to WINCE Device"
Now my phone is still dead.

when you power on the phone, does it go to bootloader or to recovery? did you have the HardSPL installed already? and do you have a micro SD card reader
The Phone goes ONLY in Bootloader mode.
I have the MicroSD USB reader.
I have the original SPL.
kinda sounds like a bad SD card to me -- did you try another one?
ok, go to the thread that gives you the walkthrough on rooting the phone, and get the RC29 or RC7 from there, if your phone was already on RC30 or above then get the 29, if you were on rc8 or above then get RC7. then you need to format your card in the reader to FAT32. then unzip the file you downloaded a minute ago and rename the .nbh file to DREAIMG.nbh and try again. from the looks of it you had a CID error, though i have never gotten one of those so i don't know exactly what they say. try again to flash the .nbh file in the bootloader
I have change 3 SD card...but the Flash don't work.

Are you using mac to format the sdcard? Sometimes, at least for me, if I format on my mac before putting dreaming.nbh on the card mac will add extra little files to the card that the phone does not like. Make sure to FORMAT the card to Fat32, then copy the file, then do NOTHING else with it before putting it back in your phone and flashing it. Also as stated above, re-download the file to make sure it isn't a corrupted one. If this isn't your case, sorry for wasting your time.
Have you had any luck?
I also have a bricked US G1 with original SPL. I was thinking of using QMAT to create a goldcard image so I could load DREADIAG.NBH since the one I have must be CID locked / for another CID (I get the 00028002).
Thanks.
I have successfully loaded a DREADIAG.nbh for a different CID using a goldcard image. Now, some stuff in there didn't work as expected, and the service manual if a bit short on info in that area. Also, it seems to work with RUU for some things. I'll have to grab a windows box tomorrow and see what I can do there.
... I'm trying to flash a HardSPL onto my possibly-dead Kasier, and I'm currently trying to do it via SD (because the USB isn't reliable for some reason).
I've got the KAISDIAG.nbh and the KAISIMG.nbh (I've tried several different HardSPL versions) on the SD, and when the phone boots I get the gray "Loading..." screen, but that's as far as it ever gets.
How long is it supposed to take, and are there any suggestions on where I might go next?
Have you tried doing it via USB?
USB doesn't work consistently. I can't get the phone to boot into Windows, so no JumpSPL, and when I plug in the USB at the bootloader screen I get "Unrecognized Device".

- Did you format the SD card with FAT32? It should be FAT32.
- I always use the name KAISIMG.nbh
- It just loads within less than 5 seconds for me, rather quickly before it asks me to press Power button for upgrading.
So, check if SD card is with FAT32 and check the name of the nbh file first.

Ah, no, it's a completely stock Tilt. It's quite possibly dead, but because it's now mine and can't get any -worse-, I'm just playing around with it. Do you have any other suggestions? If I can't get it to boot into WM, how might I be able to get a HSPL on it?
I'm thinking of just task 2a'ing it and seeing if frankenkaiser might be able to resurrect it...
Look at the sticky posts and try to get information from there, before use Task2 or other hard method
Yeah I've gone through lots of stuff, but everything seems to either require booting into WM, or just doesn't work for me. On the last occasion that USB was working, for example, I got into MTTY, but "info 2" and "info 8" just showed nothing, which I understand isn't how it's supposed to be...?
"boot" and "task 0" give "Command Error!!!", which I also gather is not how it's supposed to work.
I must confess never used MTTY
In the same situation but can boot to Windows.
I sympathize with your frustration.
I wound up in a similar situation after trying to flash a stock ROM back to my device (via SD) from a previous 6.5 ROM.
End result after my attempt to flash a stock ROM:
-Device flashed, but only the 6.1 RADIO was successful
-Still have the 6.5 ROM (and no audio and other issues due to the old Radio)
-Can boot to windows
-NO USB sync (via JumpSPL or any other method)
-KAISIMG.nbh SD flash is stuck at the white screen and shows (Loading...)
Still haven't found a solution to this, after reformatting the SD, and multiple attempts at a PC sync/flash. Thinking it might be related to a corrupted SD Card. Ordered a new one and it should arrive any minute.
I'll post my result once it arrives.
Try with a different USB cable, sometimes they tend to go corrupt.
this has happened to me in the past too, try formatting your sd card again. if that doesn't work, try a different sd card. i've got a 4gb that just won't work for sd flashing, and a 1gb that works perfect every time.

If you are referring to removing the KAISDIAG.nbh file from the SD card, and just booting with the KAISIMG.nbh. I tried this just now, with the exact same results. Stuck at "Loading..." at the white screen.
The KAISIMG.nbh I was loading was a newer 6.5 radio. What image were you able to get to work?

If you want to run one of the many Custom ROM's out there, then you will have to learn how to flash first! To learn more about flashing, click here. You have two options:
USPL - Use this method if you plan to only flash occasionally. This is a "temporary" solution, that simply bypasses the CID security for the duration of the flash. This is not the safest method, but is useful for flashing once in a while! Use THIS PAGE to flash with this method.
HardSPL - This is a permanent solution. Use this option if you plan on flashing a lot. It is also the safest, once you are HardSPL. Also, this allows you to flash LZX ROM's, and flash via MicroSD. Click HERE to flash like this (Non-PDF Version)

Steps to flash using HardSPL: (PDF Version) (Written by Apreincher, many thanks!!!!!!!!!)
It is a good idea to flash back to stock ROM just to be safe. If you are using a T-Mobile Wing you can download it from T-Mobile or from this guide. If it's a Herald you can download it from this guide.
It is important that your IPL is 4.xxx or Higher. If it is not, do not attempt a HardSPL it WILL brick your phone. You can find out the IPL by going into Bootloader:
While holding the camera button do a soft-reset by pressing the stylus into the reset hole next to the volume slider. Release the reset switch while still holding the camera button. A colored screen will come up listing your IPL and SPL. If next to IPL it says 4.xxx or higher, proceed to step 2.
Reset back into your normal phone OS.
Go to Settings- Connections- USB to PC and check the checkbox on that page.
Install the 3 CABs in this order:
Canon Yang.cab
ASerg Policies.cab
Disable Security.cab
Soft reset the phone.
Download the HardSPL folder, extract it, and place it on the Desktop.
Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe located in the HardSPL folder. Update the ROM using the steps on the screen. The screen will become white, but wait until the phone reboots itself. It could be 10-15 minutes.
Phone should boot back into some strange looking ROM. This is the HardSPL ROM. So far so good.
Check your SPL by going to bootloader again. If it says 4.70.yang, you are good as gold and HardSPLed.
Okay so now how do I flash after I'm in HardSPL?
There are actually two ways to flash while you are HardSPLed. You can use the flash center method or the SD card method. Most LZX and Micro ROM's require you to flash through the SD card method.
Flash Center with HardSPL:
Open the HardSPL folder and remove the .nbh file that is located in there. Replace it with the .nbh file you downloaded with your favorite ROM.
Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe
You've installed a custom ROM on HardSPL.
Flash through SD Card with HardSPL:
Unfortunately, sometimes this can be a bit more complicated. Make sure you use an SD card and not an SDHC card.
Your storage card will hopefully be lower than 4 GB, or else it might have trouble locating the file. If your storage card is larger, you can partition it to be smaller. Also, no SDCH cards will work.
You must format that storage card to FAT32.
Now, you download the ROM (and uncompress it if it’s a .7z, .rar, or .zip file).
Place the downloaded and uncompressed ROM file (.NBH) into the root of your storage card. Also, you must rename it HERAIMG.nbh. (Captialized)
Put the SD Card into your phone, and with your phone turned on, hold the camera button down. While holding the camera button, press and release the soft reset button. Keep holding the camera button until a new, white screen appears.
If it displays a white screen with blue text that says Checking SD contents and then Update Image proceed to step the next step.
If it immediately goes into the colored bootloader screen, it appears your phone's bootloader is not finding your SD card. Some SD cards require special formatting for some reason. Plug the SD card into your computer using an SD card reading and right click on Computer and click Manage. Click Disk Management on the right pane. Select the SD card from the list and right click and select Format. Under Allocation Unit Size, select 4096. Format and ignore any errors. Proceed with steps 2-4. If it does not work even with this adjustment, your SD card might be too slow. Or you have a SDHC card which isn't easily recognized by bootloader.
This screen that you’re on will have a white background, with blue letters. It will search for your HERAIMG.nbh file, and once it finds it, it’ll give you 10 seconds to answer yes.
To flash the ROM, when it asks you if you want to flash this, press down on the volume slider. Weird, eh? Just do it.
Now, let it flash for a good 10 minutes.
Success! Press any key. Press down on the volume slider again, and you’re on the color screen now. Hold the power button to turn off the phone, and then turn your phone back on. Welcome to your new ROM!
If you are already HardSPL and something happens and flashing doesn't work and you find that your phone appears to be off and won't turn on. Don't panic. Go into Bootloader and use the Flash Center directions to flash a ROM.
Flash Center with HardSPL:
Download the HardSPL folder and remove the .nbh file that is located in there.
Also, HardSPL first!
Your storage card will hopefully be lower than 4 GB, or else it might have trouble locating the file. If your storage card is larger, you can partition it to be smaller. Also, no SDCH cards will work. You must be HardSPL first!!

Waitttt. going for the entire first page...If this turns into what Apreincher wrote up over the summer, then we'll need it!!!
I feel so bad that Apreincher never released all of his incredible guide, lol. He wrote everything up, from installing CAB's to HardSPL, and he wrote it well!
Is there even anyone that hasn't HardSPLed yet??? LOL. Maybe one person, out of the 3 of us, hasn't yet?
Anyone believe in 2012 doomsday? Watching the special TV show on it, and it's soooooo gonna happen! Who's gonna be there on friday, to see the movie?!?!?
I'm sure Ivan will be cooking till December 21, 2012, to the last second of the world LOL.
Done!!!! Post your thoughts.
Sticky??
Maybe this should be stickied Ivan???? It'd kind of answer everyone's HardSPL questions, and then getting HardSPL would be a breeze, thanks to Apreincher's clear and percise instructions!

ROFL. Nah, I might eventually move on to another major project or one of my other smaller projects. Although I'm working on a few things for the kitchen right now. I'm almost done writing this installer/updater that automatically checks the server for an updated version of the kitchen compared to the one you have in your PC. (It actually checks the OEM's, the EXT, the SYS/XIP and the main kitchens files separately and only updates the one that changed.)

I can add it to my Super sticky. I'm trying to keep the forum tidy (well... the development forum for now as I haven't had time to look over anything else) so I want to avoid many stickies.
Nix that idea. I have a better idea. You guys can take over:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Herald_Guide
And turn that into the ULTIMATE guide!

Need help with flashing ROM from microSD
Hey peeps,
I have been trying to flash my TMo Wing to the Glass ROM, which is the rom I really want to use. I have been trying to flash by microSD. However, even though following the directions to the best of my ability, I have failed. _-_ I only see the 'Searching for card' screen for a second, then surpases to the bootloader screen. I have tried downloading all of Ace's -The Wingster's ROMs for the wing and some of Ivan's as well.
Now my desktop computer died on me recently (damn 8-pin molex connector on my mobo). So my torment has been downloading the .nbh files with my phone. I don't think that downloading by phone would have anything to do with the failure, would it?
I thought it was my microSD card, so I downloaded Flash-Format. I made sure to format my 1 gig card to fat32 with an 8kb cluster.
That didn't work, so I went out and bought another microSD. Formated with the flash-format to fat32 as well. This one is a 256mb.
Now, I was reading in the directions that speed may be an issue. Being that I cant format from the desktop, is it possible to change the speed by using the device itself?
Also I was reading that it is recommended to flash back to the original Tmo Wing ROM. Is this a possible reason that I cannot flash by SD?
I have already HardSPL'd and currently have a HERA1100 ROM WM6.1 Gullum ROM installed.
Thanks for any suggestions,
~Trib
ok iv been flashing for a few months now through flash center and never really had to many issues, well i flashed Big Rom 23081 and have had nothing but trouble, one of them being that i can no longer use activesync.
i went and got one of my smaller sd cards formatted it and put on just stable micro to the root of the sd card, ( did not add any folders) followed the directions of holding down camera button then the soft reset button, well nothing happens at best i get the window that asks me if i wanna turn off my device yes or no and my camera stays on.
is there a roundabout amount of time i hold the camera button before i push the soft reset button, and a amount of time i hold down the camera button before the white screen on.
iv been searching and for the life of me i cant figure out what im doing wrong, the only thing iv read that might make sense is flashing back to the original tmo rom but i cant do that because i cant connect to activesync.
anyone have an idea or suggestion of what to do?
thanks

Confirm the following:
You renamed the downloaded file "HERAIMG.nbh"
You extracted the .NBH file, if necessary. Some ROM's come compressed in .RAR or .7z format. You can use 7Zip to extract those.
You do NOT have a SDHC card? SDHC cards won't work.
It should work. Hopefully you can get something going.

You hold down the Camera button, and while you CONTINUE to hold down the Camera button, you press and RELEASE the Soft Reset button. Then, continue to hold the Camera button down until the bootloader appears.
Flashing back to stock wouldn't do ****!

Yes. I have made sure that my card is not a high capacity card.
The file is HERAIMG.nbh on my card (not in any folders).
And its not archived. I think it might be because I do not have the original ROM installed. Can someone link me to the original ROM that Tmo uses on the Wing?
Thanks again,
~Trib

Nah, that doesn't make a difference if you have the stock ROM. Anyways, flashing the stock ROM will remove your HardSPL, soo, you would have to re-do your HardSPL!
I really don't know why it's not working, honestly.
I couldn't take it anymore so I went to my girl's mom's house and just flashed the ROM by Active Sync. I wish I could have been able to flash by sd. Sorry to get off topic, but does anyone else think that it is as agonizing as hell to use the new IExplorer? It loads so slow and takes a lot of time to render when zooming.
Also, what program do I use to have the same on screen keyboard as I did with M2D TouchFLO?
I really have gotten used to that layout.
And lastly, I don't understand for the life of me why the only browser that I use out of IE, Opera Mobile 9.7, Opera Mini 5 Beta and SkyFire, SkyFire is the only browser that is usable. The only one that can utilize the flash player. So what do you guys think,
