I just rooted my phone and got CM on my mytouch 3g. But when I launched the google maps app, and pressed menu, all that i see is a giant "Cancel" button. Nothing else. I remember before rooting it I had a whole lot more options. Is this a bug?

Whenever you open Google Maps for the first time after rebooting it works, but once closed it turns white. I've read somewhere on this forum that rebooting is the only way to fix it but I found an easier way. Press and hold the home button and then a list of windows will show. From there, press and hold the google maps window and remove it from the list. Re open google maps and it should work fine.
By the way I've extensively tested all ICS roms and I truly believe AOKP ROM has exceeded all expectations. It is definitely the most stable and definitely the fasted and smoothest rom available NOW. (3/15/12). Thanks for all your hard work.
press home, to go to launcher.
press home to go back to google maps.
fixed white screen for me without relaunching.

Yep.
All that needs to be done is going back to home screen, which leaves maps running in the background, then hit the icon again to bring it back up. Sort of like minimizing a window on your computer then restoring it.
Hello everyone,
I bought a HOX yesterday and broke up with my iPhone. Two words: awesome phone.
Anyway, I am a little confused about how the multitasking works. For example if I am done with an app, say the default radio app, how to a quit it properly? So it doesn't hog ram. Though I also read something here on the forums that you shouldn't quit apps since it doesn't matter if they are running or not to the ram.
So I thought, well okay I'll stop caring about that. Then I tested the Navigation app, set it to navigate to nearest BK and then quit it (using the "home" btn). 3 minutes later I hear from my pocket "Turn left". wtf?
So yeah, when I unlocked the hox I saw the GPS icon up to the left, meaning that it was still running. I can't find a quit option?
A little side question too:
Is there any app I really really should download now because it will make my phone so much better/longer battery life/faster? (Not ROMs, I'll wait with that)
All help appreciated, since I am a noob

quiting apps is easy just click on the exit or x button if available and if there is no exit button or icon just keep on pressing the back keys. As for your gps you can turn it off in the phone settings or if its on android just pull down the notification and there is an options there to turn gps on and off. You can also download task killer to instantly kill running apps though others doesnt recommend it but it is useful in a way.
well gps navigation have usualy EXIT/QUIT button. And if they dont have it, press BACK button (in the Main Menu) few times and it askes you if you really want to quit the navigation or something like that. Navigon has definitelly one of those options.
The back button is The preferred method to quit an applicatiin. You can also use task manager. I am also parted way with my iPhone 4. I am now happy on my heavily mod GS3.

What I meant when I said "Navigation app" is Google Navigation, the built in one It doesn't have a main menu or an exit button

I believe the best way to quit an app is by continuosly pressing the back key until it gets to the home screen, or the app will give a prompt saying "are you sure you would like to quit?"
Otherwise, its just jamming the back button

yeah i usually just use the back button or if there's a menu where i can click quit to make sure
Lol I must be blind. Found the menu now, little button down to the right.
It also worked mashing the back button
Thx everyone!
I have rooted phone with custom rom Paranoid Android(4.1.2) and stock kernel. I was wondering, before even ICS android version, I absolutely loved the default hardware search button(beside the menu and home key) where when you press it during web browsing, it will read as the search function to enter in a url instead of manually touching the screen to do it. Now after ICS I think when they implemented the new search key on our phones, it now brings up a new page from whatever we were doing before on the phone from gaming, to browsing or whatever, to the google page which imo has never once served a purpose for me to use.
How would I change this hardware function back to what it was before? When you can use the button to search on anything rather than bringing up the google page?
+1
I have ran to the same problem, being used to being able to press the hardware search key, for example in the google play store app, to go to the search.
It is not that hard to press the on-screen search button in theory, but I have really got used to using the hardware key. Also it is kind of annoying, as the google now is not exactly the fastest thing loading on the NS, and it takes some time. Sometimes, when doing something else, I accidentally press the search button, and the I have to wait for it to load up before I can close it...
I don't know if ParanoidAndroid has button remapping, but if it doesn't, this will do.

Cheers.
I found it quite annoying too so I did some digging. I found this zip which restores in app search function. Simply flash this zip in recovery and you'll be able to search in apps using tge search button in jellybean roms.

For some reason after lollipop upgrade the long press of the home button takes me to a search page with Yahoo. How the hell did Yahoo get on an android phone lol. I really don't want anything to happen with the long press of the home button but if something does have to happen then Google Search would be preferable. I have the AT&T Note Edge. I looked through all programs and there is nothing for Yahoo listed.
Has anyone else encountered this on there device?
I'm on the newest firmware with GSM and Google apps. Everything worked fine, but since a few days a problem with Google maps appears. I can open Google maps and type an address t and I can see the route. But if I hit the start button nothing happens, it looks like maps is trying to start the navigation but then nothing goes on. Does Anyone else have the same problem? Help? Thanks!
