[Q] Step by Step GTnT Tablet mod procedure?

Hello there,
This is my very first post, having just purchased a G Tablet yesterday. I don't have a problem with modding the tablet. i just want to make sure that I follow the proper steps. sorry if this is already posted somewhere. There is just SO much info here, it's hard for my small brain to wrap around it.
1) Install clockwork recovery
2) Install uodate.zip(?) for Tnt
30 instructions for installing the above.
Is that it?
What would i need to revert to "stock" in case I muck it up?
I am excited to do this tomorrow, so any guidance will be greatly appreciated. I am in awe of the talented people here.
Thanks in advance.
Mark
no, root it first.
google 'g tablet rags'
i am with you...i wish there was a "install tnt light for dummies"
....ive commented on this elsewhere and never get a good answer....
like
1. turn on gtablet that you just bought.
2. now push the home button
3. now push the blah blah button
4. now you should see the giggle button
5. push the giggle button...
6. goto you laptop and download gigle 5.0 from this www. giggle 5.0com
this way an idiot like me could do it!!
none of the " zip file 2.3 then encrypt 3.4 and backflash 5.3 to a sd micros next install .509 giggly zip to kernel text into a gigabyte flash drive root file"
seriously wtheck is all of that! lol i really don;t get it but would like the update
Perhaps this might help...

That is the order. The first page of the stickied threads are usually all the instruction you need. They are the ones with the thumb tack symbol. Once you do it once and realize the ease you will off and running
Thank you all for your input. I appreciate it.
I was all ready to dive into it this morning, when something told me to make sure everything works first (I just bought it Thursday).
Well, it appears the USB port DOES NOT WORK. I plugged in a USB Flash, a USB card reader - no worky. I called tech support and they said reformat the USB flash to FAT32, boot with it plugged in. Still no work.
So I have a bad unit. So back to Office Depot it goes. DARN.
Bad luck!

Updater-script help!

Hi guys, I have my set of mods for a few of the HTC phones and I want to create an updater-script that checks for a file before flashing the mod. If the file exists, continue. If not, abort. I have a really round-about way of doing it right now (I'm sure there is a better, more efficient way to do it) but I'm hoping for a little bit of direction, as I have been working on this for the better part of 8 hours and not getting very far.
I will attach what I have so far, the last thing last_log told me from recovery was error in line 8, col 21. Any help would be great, thanks!
Help bump
still need help?
Dude, this is all set, right? (Also, I need to post 10 items before I'm allowed to post in some forums... so this makes 2 down 8 to go!)

You definitely helped me out with this, but I didn't include it because to check for the file I need can't be done without a ton more work since the file is located in /root, which isnt available in recovery.

[Q] Busy box, SU ect

I am totally new to rooting, well, android in general, and have a little question, noobish I know, but I was wondering can someone explain what 'su' is and also what busy box is and what it does.
I have looked at the dev form and there is a 'perma-temp-root' that I am looking into trying out, but I dont know what these 2 things are or what they do...
Thanks
I think su is for superuser & is for root & you're using the sdk to mess with your phone. I may be wrong though.
Usually...if you don't feel comfortable with something regarding root, don't do it.
And as for answering the questions, Google is your friend...

[Q] An Idiots Guide To Rooting & ROMing the GT-P6210

Hey that's cool! When I was typing the subject header the page showed me the "Here are the similar threads we found" bit. Unfortunately my mind is willing but my brain just ain't cutting it no more. Must be too many years using Windows.
I've looked around here and there seems to be a complete wealth of info for rooting, but unless I'm mistaken there seem to be bits here and there.
Is there a guide for grumpy 40something-year-old blokes who are rather rubbish at THIS SORT OF THING? Hell, I'd even PayPal for an idiots guide!

Aha, yes! I'll try this when the coffee has kicked in. Thansk very much for pointing me in the right direction.
Well, that appeared to have worked. At least, I didn't brick the device, and it's rebooted fine.
Actually, how does one test that the device is rooted? Has anyone asked that before?
Well that worked! It needs to be rooted to run SuperUser and Titanium, right? Well they both run so it mus tbe rooted

Congratulations from a 50something-year-old analog-minded geek for rooting your 6210. Sounds like we might be in the same boat. Old codgers (soon to be curmudgeons) hanging on by our fingertips to the bleeding edge of technology. All I can say about these forums is read everything before you do anything. And then ask some smart questions to make sure you're on the right track. You won't piss off too many of the rom-boffins this way, and you might avoid bricking your Tab. Good luck and welcome to the google/android/samsung version of our future.

1. Download a program called SManager in the play store.
2. open it up and click on options at the bottom and click on console.
3. Shell will open and type the following...
su <cr>
whoami <cr>
what you get back should either be... "root" or unknown uid 0
if you get anything other then you are not rooted.
Hope this answers your question
Dave.

Aha, it turns out it DID NOT work.
I followed the root procedure with no error message, the tablet rebooted just fine but SManager returns "unknown uid 0", which indictes the device is not rooted.
To add to the confusion, Titanium Backup Pro says "OK (BusyBox 1.18.4-Titanium from app) with a lovely tick next to "Root access:"
Seems like the device is confused, at least as much as me...

Huh... I have a similar confusion. Titanium Backup also tells me "OK (BusyBox 1.18.4-Titanium from app). I've cleaned Samsung bloatware off the Tab successfully using adm which I assume I wouldn't be able to do if I wasn't rooted. Yet File Manager tells me I don't have root permission to use their advanced root settings.

To confuse matters even more, I appear to have succesfully put the QMGBBQRQM Final Release ROM on the tablet
Have you installed superuser from the market yet? If you already have installed superuser, then check if theres an update for superuser. Sometimes that helps apps to recognize that you have root.

From another "40 something"... Read the sticky thread called "** FAQ and useful info **" at the top of the general subforum.
This "grumpy 40-something" spent quite a bit of time gathering the links and text for that post, and it really gets people grumpy when others (such as yourself) appear too lazy to read it.
Gary (the sarcastic, grumpy, 40-something year old diva)
Still going with that diva title eh? lol but you do have a point also. I check it from time to time myself.

"unkown uid 0" is root. If you get this you are root'd and are good to go.
you need to have super user running when you start up titanium backup and if you get the pop up window saying titanium backup wants root access then you are definitely root'd.
Dave.

I did check out the FAQ, clearly I missed the relevant details for whatever reason - let's blame it on newbiestupidity. Laziness was not involved, thank you very much.
