I have a verizon touch pro 2 that is bricked because it was unplugged mid-way through the flashing of an SPL. Not only was it unplugged but the SPL was for a GSM Touch Pro2. Im really desperate to get this phone working. I have a few questions, How do you put a CDMA variant of the Rhodium into bootloader, ive read this: (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Rhodium) and tried it but it does not seem to work, what does it mean if the led is solid green or solid orange because these come up when i plug it in, and my computer detects the phone as Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM, but cannot find the drivers for it is there someway i can get the drivers to restore the correct SPL.
Thanks

Well, if you can get into the bootloader you'll be fine. To do that, press and hold VOLUME DOWN and then press RESET till you see the tri-color screen. Than attach your phone to your computer and reflash your stock ROM.
thats the only problem i cant seem to get it into bootloader mode
try to press and hold VOL Down and Power while pushing the soft reset hole
bootloader
No need for soft-reset hole with VZW. Power on phone while holding VOL down key and it will enter bootloader.
Nate
sadly i have tried all of these methods and have got nothing, thanks anyways guys
you also have to hold the phone answer and end buttons.....
all i did on my vzw tp2 was hold down the vol down button and hit soft reset and kept holding the vol down button and that worked.
Is it the same?
Is this the same "stolen" TP2 that you brought up in the other thread?

Why start another thread and leave out all the data you included in the other post? Hmmmm

And that is the issue young padawan, In reality it is fraud and to fail to disclose the full details either here or on your ebay listing shows even more fraud not to mention a lack of morals. IMHO of course.
And if it wasn't a big deal why did you feel the need to repost without all the facts that were in the original post?
Ok maybe it's not that humble after all.... but it IS my opinion.

Well to answer his question,,,,,,
,,,,,If it says somthing to the effect of "Qualcomm MSM in download mode" then the bootloader has been corrupted and the chipset has defaulted to a mode that requires tools that he is not going to get his hands on in order to fix it. So yes it is bricked, and I know nothing about his previous posts about it, or fraud, or whatever, but can you say KARMA ????? sure you can, I like the way you say that ;-) <<<<-----Mister Rodgers.....

Wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to reapir this if it's possible:
I have a TMO SDA which I apparently got confused and thought was an HTC Typhoon last night rather than a Tornado.
I decided to follow some directions to upgrade the Typhoon to WM6, and after the first reboot (http://www.geocities.com/gggbitonti/typhoon.htm), all it does is turn on to this white screen and not do anything.
Is there any way to repair this or is it KIA?
Thanks,

Are you able to get into the bootloader mode.. Check by holding the camera button and connecting the USB. Please also mention what the screen says?? if it says tornado.. SPL 2.xxx something.. then its cool you can install a new system and your phone will be fine.. If not.. you are having a expensive paperweight...

No, nothing happens if I hold hte camera button and connect the USB cable. If i hit the power button it will just come up with a white screen - no messages. I let it sit for a couple hours like that and it was just a white screen the whole time.
Thanks.
it is not bad, you have to get a new phone!
You just bricked your phone, since its already dead, might as well try to JTAG it
I have recently purchased a HTC Touch / ELF (So i thought) from eBay.
Turns out it was a CLONE.
To make matters worse it is hanging on the Windows Mobile screen.
Also, a hard reset is not working. Im not even sure it can do a hard reset.
There are also no Red numbers when the phone starts.. does this phone not have a boot loader?
Can i fix this phone at all? I really would love too do so..
I will pay £5 maybe more, to anyone who can get my phone working!
Payment will be made through PAYPAL.
Thanks people!

Just curious, have you tried manually entering bootloader?
Sorry guys just got a reply from another seller of the same phone on ebay.
Turns out the phone does have a bootloader..kind of.. you can hard reset but flashing is not possible.
To enter boot loader you have to hold volume up, camera, and soft reset, then middle button i belive.. i presssed it anyway..
Thanks anyway guys.

Yep. Take a look at the link in the first post. There are tiny differences. Weight, screw placements, serial's, performance etc..
I pressed the Home button+Trackball+Power Button.....when starting my G1.
The Phone doesn't "power on" but the led light comes on BLUE and stays lit.
Any idea what this is for or means?

Wow, clearly you have no brain. My phone is bricked, check the New SPL and IME thread and maybe you'll have the slightest clue what I'm talking about.
MY QUESTION HERE IS VERY SIMPLE.
While trying to get past G1 boot screen, I pressed the
Home button+Trackball+Power.....
The Phone doesn't "power on" but the led light comes on blue and stays lit.
Battery pulls have been done numerous times over the past 2 hours. If you don't have a clue as to what the blue light represents, then don't bother replying to this thread. Ok.
Thanks.
when u installed the new spl did u reflash the rom?
cuz thats the problem
when the new spl is added you have to reflash the rom u were using
dont wipe so you wont lose your apps
A customer came into my store 2 days ago with a g1 that would not turn on and all it had was just a blue led lit. Tried everything to get a screen to come up and no luck.
That same update bricked my phone, t-mobile boot is all i see
home+power = dont work
camera+power= dont work
nothing did now i have to return it

I rephrased my 1st post so I could get an answer about what this post is for. I'm not an idiot, I know how to flash an SPL/ROM/ whatever.
The phone is bricked, I am one of many, check the New SPL and IME thread.
That has nothing to do with my topic here though. Thanks.

I can get the G1 screen to come up, but that's all. I just didn't know if the combo of keys I pressed to start the phone meant something.
Turns out if you just press the trackball in and press power that will trigger just the Blue LED light to come on as well.
Just trying to figure out if this is useful or just more G1 shananigans. lol.
is the G1 screen comes up your phone is NOT bricked...
try flashing the regular JF ADP1.5.. if that dont go, start flashing old roms(RC29, RC30 etc..) hope that works
Saw this posted on a forum for T-Mo
the omniscient Google sez:
(found on forums.tmonews.com)
The problem is caused by ppl powering the device on, and when they press the red END key they are also holding down the MENU and pushing in the track ball at the same time.
This then enables a lock on the phone the only way around this is to pull the battery and turn the phone back on with/out pressing an holding the menu and trackball.

well plug the charger into the phone with the battery still intact.....then remove the battery while the phone is still plugged in. then unplug the charger and plug it back in........place battery back into phone and then power it up. That worked for me.

It actually can be bricked head over here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515822 and you will see that it is. Persons are not able to get into recovery even unable to get into the boorloader screen. By pressing home + power or camera + power. it can be bricked and show the G1 boot screen there are 7 or so phones that are like this now.

Just a generic lock? awesome. That's all I was wondering. Thank you!
Blue light happened when I washed my G1. I can occasionally get it to start up, try hitting the power button for a sec, hit it a gain a few times and see what happens. Throwing some trackball presses in there seemed to help too. G1 is an odd creature...
7 phones bricked and still counting thanks to the H special SPL.
Not so sure it's the SPL
one correspondent who purports to be an associate of T-Mo suggests that that button-press combination invokes a hardware lock that can be undone. see above

sir*mez:
If it gets to the T-Mobile-screen, the phone is NOT bricked.
If it's able to show the picture, it furthermore shows that atleast that part of the flash is intact (The picture resides on the splash1 partition, while the secondary is on splash2).
barlev869 & arqueware:
Hardware-lock? My bet would be this is some sort of test-mode, maybe for hardware-diagnostics?
It's not a lock if it can be avoided by just rebooting the phone (Which it can, i've been in the blue-led mode several times to try to guess what it was doing when booted like that...).

From my understanding of the problem, You're half right. Part of the system does indeed come up but unfortunately that isn't enough to get adb to run or to boot into recovery mode or into fastboot. Basically, while you're right that it's not fully bricked and it is theoretically possible to fix it, the phone doesn't have any interface at all to do so. It'd be like trying to fix BIOS settings on a computer when you don't have a keyboard.
NOTE: I haven't flashed the new SPL so haven't been able to run into any problems with it, but from reading other people's descriptions of what happened, the above seems to be the case.
Ok, so basically I installed a gsm rom on my phone, instead of a cdma rom, now the phone will not do anything, is there anything that can be done, or should i just buy a new phone.
Try to get into bootloader mode. Hold the volume down key + the power key at the same time. You should be able to get to the tri-colored boot loader screen. From there attach your TP2 to a USB and flash a CDMA rom like normal.
i tried that, and still nothing, i actually noticed it doesn't even wanna charge
actually it is charging, but nothing else
I just wanna know if you have saved your phone or not.
I was going to flash a gsm rom,but I see your situation now,so..
If anybody know how to change a gsm rom to a cdma rom?
Nope all it does is charge, i cant nothing else to work on it

We have Verizon Wireless and T-Mobile and Touch Pro 2's on both carriers and I did that by mistake on my T-Mobile device. Okay, this is what I did; first, you're going to need a clean sd memory card that will at least hold the ROM you're flashing. I don't recommend you put anything else on this card except the ROM.
One note, you must be Hard SPL'd to do this; if not this is all mute.
The reset button on Verizon's TP2 is located under the back cover on the device's left side just under the volume rocker; it's a red dot that says "RESET".
With the ROM on the memory card insert the memory card; next hold down both the volume down and reset button simultaneously, releasing the reset button first and then the volume down rocker and your bootloader screen with Red, Green, Blue and White with yellow characters will appear. By the way you can also use this procedure to flash your device via sync and PC if "USB" appears in the white portion of the screen if you have an existing "CDMA" ROM on your Rhodium 500 device (CDMA).
Now, I'm going to tell you right from the start this works perfect with GSM Rhodiums; I've never tried it with my wife's device which has God status in this house and I'm not about to piss her off on a wild hunch.
Double check the forum whether someone else has been a victim and it's not all that unusual, though I admit I felt like a real dumbass when I did my device and I got an all white screen. Just remember RHOD500 is your device; you see RHOD210; that's GSM. Take care!

First you should do what SNittyKitty wrote.
What company is your TP2 from?
If that doesn't make it respond write to HTC Support and tell them you install a ROM from there page and now it's not responding. And by not responding I mean the charging light not turning on when connected.
Same Problem
I had someone send me the unlocker for the Rhod500 and it was actually for the Raph. Although I did not find that out until after I tried to flash it. Now I have the same problem. Any luck yet? Also, when i plug in the phone to the computer it comes up in device manager but I cant do anything. I figure if it is in device manager I should be able to fix the issue but I dont know.
If you flashed the raphael unlocker then there is no fixing the phone. It is toast, it does make a nice paper weight
I've read.. really I have..

using android sdk and the adb commands..
I haven't tried the JIG yet.
But I wanted to show you guys first before I leave work for the day and stop and Radio Shack on my way home.
I can't get into the Download Mode. When i power on the phone normally I get the AT&T "World Phone" screen. white with blue AT&T logo
If I hold down the Vol down or both down and up and plug in the usb cable from my pc to the captivate i get THIS!!??
So It's not hardware bricked (I don't think)... but what do I do?!
I can't get any of the one click loaders to see the phone, it doesn't ever get into a recognizable mode.
What happened:
I had CyanogenMod 7.1.. I wanted to see what MIUI was all about. Then I wanted to go back.. I went into recovery and formatted EVERYTHING i could find, factory reset, and now I have this non-animated waiting animation.
I figured I could flash back to factory and clean the phone then flash with CWM to CM7.1... I WAS WRONG!!!!!
Jig should get you where you need to be. Looks like you lost your button combos. What is your build number and which bootloaders are you using?
the only info i have left is the inside label.
Samsung
Model: SGH-i897
FCC ID: A3LSGHI897
IMEI: not telling
S/N: R1XZA58158D
1010 REV 0.4
SKU: 65187
1010 is your build number. 2010 October.
But.... I still need to use a JIG? No way of fixing this with software?
I hate to say it, but probably not. In formatting "everything", it seems like you've formatted out the software parts that would allow you to get back to where you could use software to fix this. A jig will get you to download mode, as it's a hardware-based solution.
Would a quick stop at the local AT&T store help any? Can they do a factory reset with their equipment? The only advantage i see is that they might do it for FREE and I wouldn't need to fudge around with the stupid resistors?
DO NOT USE 3button fix! DONT EVER. you will hard-brick for real if you have gingerbread bootloaders before flashing 3 button fix. 3 button fix is obsolete. to fix (if needed) use the i897 ginegerbread bootloaders to get 3 button fix and get gingerbread ready at the same time without bricking. if you cant find the thread [MOD] i897 Gingerbread Bootloaders, you shouldnt be flashing ANYTHING from this site,
that being said.\
take out battery,
put in battery,
HOLD both volume buttons,
PLUG IN USB TO PHONE/PC
KEEP BUTTONS HELD UNTIL YOU SEE YELLOW TRIANGLE
it works, trust me.

Att store does not and will not re-flash the software on your phone, if you even let them see it they will know you VOIDED YOUR WARRANTY. dont ask questions like that. we will KNOW you havent read a damn thing on this site.
Looks like the PARAMS partition was damaged on your device. Your PARAMS can be configured to boot the phone to any mode. it's the BOOT_MODE parameter I think. Using this simple string value you can tell your device to boot into charging, normal, download, recovery and several others which I have no clue about.
Looks like your device has valid bootloaders, but the kernel has been instructed to boot into charging mode. It won't finish charging mode because the qualifications are not met.
I'm betting that since you obviously have a valid PBL, and SBL, you can plug that into the stock charger outlet and have the kernel boot into battery charging mode, then turn it on normally. But definately reflash your params.

First off.. Mind your manners and respect the forum for what it is. A place for all of us to learn and expand our knowledge on these awesome devices
Second off, you joined this forum a few months ago.. I've been here since 2005.. so please don't assume that I haven't read a "damn thing on this site" or that I haven't contributed to the site either! This is not the first time I've rooted or flashed or recovered from a bricked phone before. It's not even the first time on a Captivate. also, I've been reading since 9am.
I'm in real good with my AT&T guys so no need to worry about voiding anything. They already know and they have asked me to root their phones as well. They also offered me a job but they can't afford me.
So... the question wasn't "will they know I voided my warranty" or "do they flash".. the question was, "Can they do a factory reset with their equipment" which I admit should have been worded, Can they get me into download mode with their equipment?
Thank you for the information regarding the 3 button fix being obsolete. I wasn't planning on flashing it but good info anyway.
"take out battery, put in battery, HOLD both volume buttons, PLUG IN USB TO PHONE/PC, KEEP BUTTONS HELD UNTIL YOU SEE YELLOW TRIANGLE, it works, trust me." = doesn't work.. that's why I'm posting.
I held the buttons for over 60 seconds (thumb goes numb after that) and I also tried Just the Vol Down button.. Same results as picture attached in the first post of this thread.
so yeaaaaaaa... i stopped off at radio shack on the way home and got the resistors to make the jig.. aaaaaaaaaaaand it didn't work.
I was successfully able to get the jig to touch just the first 2 pins next to the head phones jack and i got the exact same non-animated animation circle.
SOOOooooo i'm starting to look into the fact that I still have insurance on my line
Buy a jig instead if making one. They are less than $10
Edit
Did you try plugging in to Odin after using your home made jig? Also, make sure to wrap the jig in tape so your fingers aren't in contact with any of the jig. Contact with the jig can change the resistance, rendering it useless.

Try the steps he told you again, but flip flop putting in the battery, and plugging in usb... i.e. plug phone into usb, hold both volume buttons, THEN insert battery. instant download mode. worked every time for every build number captivate i've ever tried.
that didn't work either..
I just bought: 'SainSmart Micro USB Dongle Jig for Samsung Galaxy S Captivate / Vibrant' by Sain Store on amazon.com for $1.95 plus shipping. I'll let you know how THAT goes.
Also, Just a heads up. I have insurance on the phone. So I called up to find out what I could find out. First off, they don't care if you void the warrenty with software. Just so long as there is no physical damage and no water damage. Second, they HAVE to replace the Captivate with another Captivate if they have some left on the shelf. If they are out, they could have replaced it with a new Samsung Galaxy S II for the same deductible of $125. I'm holding off on replacing like for like right now until I try the JIG.
I may wait a month and see if they run out of Captivates too! lol.
I can do UnBrickable Mod for you if you'd like. I ask for $30 plus shipping (usually $6 unless you want overnight or something). Just send me a PM. I gaurantee that it will work unless you have hardware damage.
