Ringtones, etc from Motorola Droid - G1 Android Development

Here's my first ever proper contribution to XDA Developers
It's the audio folder from maxisma's dump of the CDMA Motorola Droid (found here, thanks maxisma). It includes the Droid's ringtones and notification 'tones. There are some pretty cool new ringtones there, so go check it out.
Instructions:
1. Download the file called 'droidaudio.zip' from the link below.
2. Unzip the file. It should contain a folder called 'audio'.
3. Place the folder in the root of your SD Card.
4. Go to Settings -> Sound and Display and switch your ringtone to the cool new droid one
If the new ringtones do not show up immediately, simply reboot and they should be there.
droidaudio.zip

All of the ringtones are cut short; try again.
[EDIT] Scratch that, they are cut short in the dump too. MAXISMA!!!

Thanks...I will scope this out. I wondering if we take a performance hit when a call initiates if we have a lot of ringtones. I have many, and sometimes the ring lags severely when a new call comes in....just wondering.
Again, thank you

Yeah, I've just noticed that as well, it's odd. But at least the 'DroidInvasion' one is full length, and all the notification ringtones are full length too

Some sounds certainly are cool. Shame they were in the evil ogg vorbis format though... had to change them to mp3. Thx for these.

Evil? Mp3 is bound by royalties; ogg is royalty-free.

Yeah, well, mp3 is near ubiquitous in players, and our gracious hosts have already paid the royalties for us.

Seriously. If any audio format is evil, it's MP3.

Ring Tone: Papaya

I got sick of surfing all the dumb ring tone websites out there, and I wanted something I liked ... so, I created a ring tone myself.
I plan on releasing more as time goes on.
The ZIP file contains both Stereo and Mono versions, all transcoded in WMA (I found WMA files work best under WM5.)
This ring tone is released under the Creative Commons license. I hope you enjoy it.
Coming soon: a "variation" of the iPhone ring tone (my own original work--Apple can't take it down)
What software do you use to produce it? some MIDI->WAV->WMA process?
I use a MIDI setup with GarageBand on my iMac, export the file to .m4a, edit in Sony Sound Forge, and save as .wma.
huh. not bad at all.
certainly not grating and it's quite pleasant! I think I'll throw 'er on my phone and try it out.
Thanks for posting. We need more things like this. Enough with the hip-hop ringers, lol.

Windows system sound killed -> Error 0xc00d0012

Hi all,
i have a strange problem with the windows system sounds that does not seem to be ROM specific and here it comes:
Fresh installed device with own assigned system sounds (all wav files copied into the windows device folder) = Everything okay.
After a while (mostly some days) when the system sound is due, it only plays that short default "beep" instead of the assigned sound. The setting in the registry is still as okay as the sound setting itself.
When you open the specific wav file in Media player, it says: "Error 0xc00d0012"
Overwriting the file with a working one solves it temporarily again.
In my case it is the sound for IM+ messenger (when contacts go offline). It does not matter what sound you choose for this event.
I have read threads in other forums where users have the same problem but with other windows events/sounds so i don't know if this is to blame IM+...
What the hell is going on there ?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Regards,
Scholler
I also have a similar issue, which I noticed only happening since the rom was upgraded by Vodafone.
I have a wav file set as new text message, but after a day or so, all I get is a beep. The file is unplayable but is you over write this file with a saved version, then it works again for another day or so.
Does it need to be a WMA file instead?
cheers
Neil
Hi Wheelie,
i don't think so but i will try it with a wma and see how it will behave...
Merry xmas,
Scholler
Okay, i tried it with a wma and it looks better now...
But i really don't understand why...

Here you go.
Much appreciated ... imagine this kind of customer service in stores? We'd never complain.
Heh, no problems, man!
I like the official youtube player better than HTC's, even if the quality is a bit lower. As the video runs, a .flv file is dumped into one of your temporary internet folders. If you stop the video just before the pink bar (not the full red one) gets to the end, you can copy the file out of the temp folder to your sd card, rename it, and watch it whenever you want with tcpmp. It can be tricky stopping the vid at the right moment, though. It's easier if you empty your PIE cache first.
That's indeed interesting, thanks for that tip

I got an even better one for pandora, lol. Pause pandora just as a song is ending, then go into \my documents and copy the .tmp file to your sd card. Rename the file to 'nameofsong'.wma, and you've got yourself a nice copy of the song. Assuming it doesn't make you feel to guilty, lol.

[APP] ASR - Sound Recorder - Free without limitations

Hi everyone, this is my another attempt to learn programming for Android by coding.
ASR - Sound recorder
Sound recorder without limitations!
ASR - Sound Recorder is one of the few apps on the Google Play that records directly to the MP3 format.
It is FREE and without any limitations on recording time!
Below permissions required:
WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE to save recordings.
WRITE_SETTINGS to set recording as ring tone.
looks quite nice. however the icon is very non-ics-like
Thanks, do you mean like the Android Design guide?
My artistic skills are crap at best I've tried many icons but couldn't get better than this
kinda quick & dirty PS job. if you like it I'll send you the .ps
i also tried making a nice mic but those are kinda complicated
looks good, could you attach psd as zip? or upload some where?

any eta on the icon?
btw, what does it need network connection for?
two requests:
- make the low/high quality checkbox a dropdown where one can choose from a set of bitrates (32,64,96,128) or at least add in the description what the bitrate will be.
- native playback without requiring another app. I have the recordings in a folder with a .nomedia file so they don't show up in my media player while listening to music. but that prevents the media player from playing them. I don't want to install another player just to listen to a note every now and then. a very very very simple player (compare hi-q mp3 recorder) would be great.
Looks good! Will install and test it out.

I had to re-design current logo. There was another app with almost same logo as you have designed.
Network permission is required for upload & share feature

I didn't include bitrate settings too kep it simple but planning to add if it pics up. I am quite happy so far. It has 3000 downloads so far.
I will start working on internal player. Thanks
well there's only a few different icons that make sense for a recording app so it's natural that icons are gonna look more or less the same for all of them. there's at least 50 different (or not so different) microphone icons. so i don't see any problem using any icon just because of similarities, especially not if the icon is original and not a copy.
after test:
-64kbps is not good enough
-it didn`t work 2 times out of 5, file size 0
but it has perspective, hope you will improve it

Not sure if you had a different record button design then, but I am loving this brushed aluminium button in your latest version.
I'm using ASR mp3 recorder the past 2-3 weeks, but I have a serious issue(because affect phone's functionality too). If I use it to record something, the first recording is ok, but from the second time the sound volume lows down a lot. And this doesn' t happen only for the app' s recording file, but for all sounds of phone, and needed to reboot the device to returned to normal sound volume.
Any ideas why this happens, and hopefully a fix?

the psd i provided was my suggestion for the app icon, not the record button. the apps UI is actually quite nice, just the icon isn't, especially not on ICS/JB

Ringtones - over 200 - spanning genres and decades

I like to have a variety of ringtones on my phone, and I've made ringtones out of a bunch of my favorite tunes and thought I'd share them with anybody that wants them.
There are over 200 in total, spanning the decades from the 60's to today, and genres from alternative to rock, AC/DC to Van Halen, country to top 40's and a few rare or hard to find tracks to boot.
I've uploaded both mp3 and ogg formats, and there should be something among them for everyone. So, feel free to download and use them as you please;
ringtones in mp3 format: http://d-h.st/3Oy
ringtones in ogg format: http://d-h.st/JUk
Downloading now. Let you know how it is. But I love music and ringtones. So a BIG thank you in advance.

What's the main difference between and Ogg? Just didn't know if there was a benefit to one or the other

This is great. If you need more music to make some tones let me know. I have a library like no other. I've been collecting music for over 30 years and my father for 30 before me. Took me years to rip it all and turn the LP's into digital format.
PM me if you are interested.

ogg is the format the stock ringtones and notifications are in, in the system/audio folders. Either will work, but I just what the heck, might as well convert them into the same format that the original ringtones were in. I also deleted the system/audio/ringtones folder and replaced it with mine, so the ONLY ringtones on my phone are these.

If you have any specific songs you want ringtones of, I'd be happy to clip them down for you, but I can't think of any that I want and don't have.
I've also got a collection of around 6,000 songs that I've uploaded to one of my servers, and if you'd like to add them to your collection PM me and I'll send you a link.
Could you repost/update the link? Thanks!

Know the feeling. I also just finished the same task....*whew*...now have 205,000 MP3s 192kbps and above. Good to know I'm not the only one obsessive enough to do this...lol!
