Hello everyone!
Due to the fact that my Magician has sadly bit the dust, I have to make my choice now: HTC HD2 vs. Acer NeoTouch vs. Motorola Milestone (Droid).
The most important advantage of the HTC is definitely...you...the XDA devs As long as I know that specialists developing on OS (WM/Android) i can be sure that my device will not be that old fashioned in the next few years and its worth buying.
An important question for me is: can i take it that there will be improvements with the neotouch in the near future? WM Roms, perhaps a ported android 2.0 rom and so on...certainly i know that the devs are specialized on HTC devices, i´m just aksing because the neotouch has nearly the same specs like the HD2...
I would be really thankful for your opinions...
Well mate want a quick answer...id say youl have to wait and see, first android requires a linux kernel inorder to run, this kernel is somewhat started already for our qsd8250 cpus but were missing haret support, withough haret its almost imposible to run a linux kernel on our winmo devices, that been said, custom roms are already been cooked by hdubli heres a link to hes video, this means well have custom roms in a a matter of days, maybe less, and finally snapdragon based devices will most likely have windows mobile 7 beta roms since windows mobile 7 will be on wince 7.0 kernel which the snapdragon already supports, and bro trust me the acer neotouch is worth every single dollar, i mean you have to have in your hands to understand how fast and beatifull the devices is, its just unreal, the build quality is perfect, the screen looks gourgeous, n other words if your planing on upgrading to a new device and dont have 800-1000$ to spend on a htc leo, spend 500$ for the acer neotouch you wont regret it trust me.
Hope this helps you in your quest of getting a new device =]
Sincerly
Rafyvitto
+1000. I was covered by rafyvitto 100%. I love my Acer.

I know Google's Android isn't one of the most popular things around here, but it caught my eye and I'm just wondering about the possibilities (like fixing the driver issue)
As far as i know it will run on all ARM11 PDAs like the Polaris, and I'm hoping that it will be available for the Polaris aswell.
I'd like to read your oppinions on this, and ofcourse the possibility on an XDA-DEV version...
I dont think it will run on older devices like Polaris. Maybe I am just too sceptic, but I think there wont be any official upgrade.
Android is able to run on a Sharp Zaurus SL-C760, which has a PXA255 400Mhz XScale processor. The device was released in 2003.
The planned release of Android is in the second half of 2008, and both Qualcomm and HTC are members of the Open Handset Alliance which backs Android.
And I don't think that the Polaris is an old device... the Hermes is, but the Polaris
But you have a point whith the official stuff

Dear friends
Im a proud owner of a HTC TOUCH ENHACED or HTC ELFIN.
It would be possible to run android os on it?
Today i have watched a video where some guys runs in a touch screen phone a demo of android and this phone was a very slow one (ti omap 800, 64 ram and rom) and the os worked quite fine...
what dou you think about it?
cheers
with time yes now not likely i would keep an eye on
http://code.google.com/android/
Im new to the pda world (ive seen the light over super mobile phones like the N95 I currently own), Ive just been given old xda IIi and can appreciate the benifit already.
Ive just watched the U-tube videos on Android and I can see the future, what an amazing OS, there throwing down the gautlet with the offer of 10 million quite an incentive.
this OS on my Himalaya... that would be ultimate WIN
Being a ridiculous n00b here, I'm wondering the same thing, have just ordered the Ted Baker (Gay Purple) Touch on Win Mo 6 - and have no experience of installing OSs etc. on mobiles - how likely/practical is it going to be for me to put something like Android on it, when the time comes?
Don't worry, i'm sure you'll find a good tutorial as sson as android becomes available for the touch or any other PDA.
Actually flashing isn't that difficult, as long as you take yours time to follow every step. Otherwise you'll brick your device
I thank everybody whom helped us in getting this done, Really thankful to all whom brought the light on the much better x7510.
I was so afraid that it will be overlooked like the days at which the PDA 2 (Alpine) was neglected as to develop ROMs and fixes, and the Himalaya Took over the complete focus.
btw, I still have my Himalaya, going WM 6.1 all the way from WM2003.
That's why I Like to see the x7510 moves with me through time, without getting old.
1 Last thing, I know that this is a little rushing, but I want the x7510 to GET Windows Mobile 7.0 and 8.0 once they are released.
Again, Thanks to all whom brought the x7510 SECTION to Life.
Will
wm 7 and 8 will very likely not be ported to this device
1. no capacitive touchscreen which is a major stumbling block
2. very few developers so far for it
3. 7 is ages away, and 8... wtf?
plus, the nardware required for wm2003->wm6.1 is barely changed wm7 will bring multi touch and therefore the need for capacitive touchscreens.
communities with massive development sections (diamond, kaiser etc) from what ive read are sceptical about running wm7 on their devices...
you should probably concentrate on running a cooked rom before you think about wm7
Yep! I will focus and Dig down and up to get a ROM Cooked especially for my beloved x7510, Man its Magic... I love the device its just :
Like.Nther

Hola Hola, I'm Lovin it!
OMG!! finally!!! it was about time.... WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

capacitive touchscreen will not be mandatory
the real problem here is lack of BSP but I'm still interested in getting WM7 onto this... won't be trivial task though
The purpose of this thread is to discuss the possibilities of getting Android up and running on the HD Mini.
A word to the wise…porting Android is NOT easy, it took almost 1 year to get an (almost) fully working port for the HTC Touch Pro, and there were a LOT of really good Linux developers spending TONS of time on it. (The preceding sentence was paraphrased from this post by TheDeadCpu.)

Me to!! Can't live with what's in the HD Mini, but most certainy I can live with the hardware. Anybody knowing how to androidize it?
I bought HD mini due to the outlook, size and weight!
Legend have poor taste and the shape is not good to store in pocket.
Frankly, WM is more easy to copy and edit the Word/Excel files from PC and I can check some files out of office easily.
And I just seek for any solutions for multi-boot with Android OS as Android looks better and I just want to try it and need not to buy another phone.
Cos I have one iPhone already, too many mobile phones~
When the evo rom arrives, it will be ported to hd2. I find it logical that it will be a android powered hd mini in the future. Then, it would be rather easier than now to create a custom android rom for hd mini But I should stick to reality.
The dual boot app for winmo devices isn't written for hd minis hvga resolution.
But hey, the diamond 2 or touch pro 2 does not have a android twin to take a rom from. I will put up a request for hd mini support for the android dual boot app.
The hd mini would have been a great android device!
Sorry for bad English.
Thanks gingerviking! I agree that the hardware is made for Android rather than wm6.5. I cross my finger for a rapid solution - WM is just not for me anymore..
Good news is that a genious has managed to get the linux bootloader to work on hd2 and playing a 720p video. An Android port will soon come to hd2 even without the evo rom
Hopefully the kernel system on hd2 isn`t all that different from the hd mini
Well. We're all looking forward to see a genious hacker who cares about the hd mini and android. =)
Don't know if it will work but you guys could give it a try cause it runs via haret:
w w w _dot_ neopeek.com/en/stories/android/75-update-android-fuer-htc-blackstone-diamond-tilt-raphael-rhodium-topaz-fuze
@XDA-Mods: after months of waiting! when will you update my account?
Anything else besides android that you guys might want??? how about some cookies along with it? lol if you wanted android why did you bought a windows mobile based device?? cause of haret? if you want android on your hd2 mini, yould need a working linux kernel, then you can worry about android, and its not that easy im not going over this again im tired of explaining to noobs that android is not a a program that you can simply install...it dosnt work that way.

Android would be just enough
ATT HTC ARIA -- a dead ringer for HD MINI but with ANDROID?
Does this mean an android rom won't be too far off?

Not yet i think, but i will get my touch in it soon
This week a bit busy
Tom
core of haret is a file called setup.txt where are stored parameters with rom/ram addresses, only thing to do is know this addresses.........
I hate you. Htc!
I have great news for all you people living in the US: Like the evo 4g with sprint(android version of hd2). At&t have released the htc aria, a true android clone of the hd mini. Just google it for more info.
Yes and, unfortunately for us, HTC Aria will be, and nowadays is, available only for USA market...
I want it in Italy!!!!!! Or maybe... someone which could "do" a complete Android ROM for the HD Mini, based on the Aria!?!?!? I wish it! I really want it...!
Because HD Mini is so pocketlly beautiful!!!!
its a company fault
we have went to market to get it and it was WM and now they have released HD Mini with Anderiod ,
so it is who's fault,
i hope anyone can give info how to get the rom of android for our hd mini (old) one
hi guys,
I'd like to know if it possible because I've been using my Xperia x1 for about a year and i think it's time for a change but when I checked all the available phones I got confused a little.
it seems like Windows phone 7 looks great but in a review i saw somewhere it says that it lacks some important features such as:
No Bluetooth file transfers
No USB mass storage mode
No multitasking
No copy/paste
No Flash or Silverlight support in the web browser
No DivX/XviD video support
No internet tethering support
Swapping memory card requires hard reset; cards not readable by computer
and Android has great features but IMO I think WinMo gives more freedom in the terms of using or hacking
and as a WinMo 6.5 user I find it a great OS with all the features needed and if there some feature I want that is not already offered it's available here on XDA-Dev either as a .cab or cooked in a ROM
So the Main Question: if I buy a Sonyericsson (X10 maybe) or a HTC with a 1 GHz Processor will I be able to install any OS of them as a ROM???
Thanx in advance.
The only device capable of running WP7 is the hTC Leo and it has actually working Android and some working on Ubuntu and Maemo as well.
not any other device will be capable to do so
Thanx for reply
So the HD2/Leo is able to handle all 3 OSs
but i have more questions please
how is the HD2 up to date regarding the specs? like the RAM, ROM, and processor
can there be 2 OSs in the same time and to be able to switch between them?
and does android 2.2 froyo work 100% i mean with everything working??
thanx again

I'm intreagued, what about the duplo phone looks great to you?
The basic HD2 specs are up to date on paper (RAM, ROM, processor) and even beat some newer phones but dig deep and you'll see the latest version of the chips are better. Android 2.2 is running perfectly but WP7 is still work in progress.
It's more than a year old but still the best phone EVER.

Any chance for Desire to use WP7 too?
I would be great if it is possible.
I wanna try WP7 too.
