Hey guys, have an issue that I'm trying to figure out how to deal with. This morning I woke up to find water on the window sill where my phone was sitting (charging overnight) and the LED light was on. I have the nueLight flashlight program on thanks to arrupenthal's (sp?) wm6.1 ROM, so I went in there to turn it off, only to find it was "off." I pulled the battery and charger cable and the light went out.
As soon as the battery goes back in, the light comes on. Phone isn't even on but the light is powered up. If I turn the phone on and go into the nueLight app, the high beam feature works, but the strobe/morse code ones do not.
I tried using 15 min of heat on blast in the car ride to work, holding the phone infront of a vent. Tried putting it in the freezer. Nothing.
Would doing a hard reset/ROM reflash fix this or does it sound like I have a bridged connection to keep the LED on constantly? Right now I just put a piece of electrical tape over it, been on for a few hours, battery temp is hovering around 30 C which is normal.
Any ideas on a fix? My insurance is null/void from AT&T. I'd love to get a Tilt 2 but not in the finances right now. It's either leave it go and wait til I have a real issue from the LED on 24/7, or go so far as to take the phone apart and "clean" it? The stickers on the battery and inside the battery compartment have changed color (white to red) b/c of the water so no chance at a warranty claim, plus I know if I tried pulling one over on HTC I'd end up spending $300 on something I wouldn't have had to anyways.
have you tried a hard reset when you have time? that or maybe uninstalling nuelight and reinstalling it.
Usually water wont bridge the connection for that long. it would rather shortcircuit your phone rather than bridge a connection.
I can try a hard reset. Volume down and stylist reset button right? Does that clear out all the contacts again?
I'll try whatever. All my contacts are saved in outlook so no big deal.
hard reset clears out ALL information.
so back it all up. hard reset and see if it works.
I tried a hard reset, the red/green/blue screen shows up, and then in the white down at the bottom it says serial and does nothing. No buttons make it do anything at this point. I just pulled the battery, put it back in, phone starts up as normal and all data is still there.
It doesn't make sense it's software to me if the phone is off and the light continues to shine.
its definitely water damage, ive had the same issue since i washed my phone in the washing machine. its got less of a problem as time goes by, now you can barely see the light is on unless it is dark and even then it is quite feint. annoying as it doesn't help the battery life!
Ok so I talked to arrupenthal or however you spell his name. Convinced this is not a software problem, since with the phone off off, and putting the battery in, the LED turns on. So i took the phone apart. Here's what we have:

Click here for the high res version. Looks like there's some stuff near the LED from the water damage? Any ideas?
Well...nevermind. Cleaning it didn't work, so I popped the LED off with a flathead and I think we're back in business, sans flashlight.
I had the same problem hope can help me how you do??
thankss

I have no idea why, it was working fine, until a few mins ago, but the battery was sort of running low, and I didnt charge it. The next thing I know, the phone is off and it wont start up again...
the pc wont recognize the phone when i plug it in, and when i try to charge it, it wont light up.
with the battery inside, when i hold the on/off key, it does vibrate, but it still doesn't turn on.
I didnt drop it, and its never been in water or anything... it just suddenly refuses to turn on...
any suggestions?
(btw, I'm on a 3 plan, and I've modded the phone, so I don't think I have warranty..)
oh, and its been about 2 weeks since my last mod from xda def, and have had no problems up till now.
any suggestions?....
thanks
pull out the battery and put it on the wall charger?
Then put the battery back in?
Just a thought.

yeah tired that, but still wont work
oh, and btw, the phone keeps on making noises (melodies???) after it vibrates when i try to turn it on..
The startup sound when the 3G flies across the screen?
I wonder if you can touch areas and get a click. One thought. Once you think it comes up (2 1/2 mins I have heard in worst case), play with the volume button up and down.
Is it making noises? If so, then perhaps the screen is not working. Just a thought, but wouldn't hurt to try.
As it turns out, as long as the phone wont turn on, they wont know the phone is hacked
so I went to the 3 store, and they advised me to go to a service center nearby, they had no idea and they repaired it under warranty for free.
the problem was the LCD and the ear piece. thanks syntrix for bothering to reply
I had Similar problem
Interesting has my Touch Pro is new -- 1 week old -- and yesterday the battery was getting low. Next time I looked, it was off. Wouldn't turn on. So, I figured the battery had died -- very disappointing as I hadn't even left the office -- so it didn't even make it through first "work" day. When I got home I tried hooking to charger. No response. So, I popped the battery out and then back in -- everything back to normal. I haven't made any changes to the phone YET -- -- planning to install WDE in just a few minutes. Wonder if this isn't a bug in device?
Anyway -- my first post here at XDA -- "hey" ;-)
My pro started doing this today. Soft resetting won't turn the device back on either. I have to literally pop the battery out and back in.
Keyboard is also acting like it can't keep up with me and screen is very wiggly. WOndering if I got a dud.
(no startup htc touch pro) Depends in Haad image only

So my TF101 appears to be completely dead. I had it rooted and rom'd running KatKiss 4.3,not sure of which number . I loved it too. Anyway, before it died, it rebooted and would not leave the "updating apps"screen so I did a factory install which fixed the problem but only temporarily. A few days later the same thing happened. This time I could not even reboot it. I left it charged overnight but could not get it to boot at all. I think I have tried everything. I tried booting with and without being on the keyboard dock, I have tried plugging into the computer, tried hdmi to a monitor to see if the screen went bad. I tried seeing if the computer recognized it in APX mode. NOTHING. The USB charges the keyboard dock but does nothing for the tablet. The computer does not see it period. It looks completely dead. It is out of warranty but I even called ASUS and all they would do is charge me $340 to send it in.
I would love to troubleshoot to see if it is a board or battery or whatever gone bad , but I cannot find anything on the Web. Can anyone help. Otherwise it's a lovely paperweight.
It's possible that the battery has come to the end of it's life and won't hold any charge, which would explain why APX mode won't work, the PC can't power on the TF via USB, only trickle charge it while it's powered off / screen is off, but if the battery is dead then that's not gonna happen either
Not sure if the charger needs the battery for it to power on the TF too or not
You could try disconnecting the battery and plugging in the charger
Here is a good teardown video to show exactly how to get that done
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-6dKsGJ4VY
Im not 100% sure, but if the dock battery is fine, you could check and see if the connections are the same and swap them over

Still DEAD
Detection,
Thanks for the awesome YouTube of breaking down the TF101. Unfortunately, I swapped batteries and still no good. Nothing happens. It looks like the old battery has power too, based on my multimeter. Is there anyone else with suggestions at this point or do I leave it as a nice paperweight?
THansk....
Apologies for resurrecting this thread. My TF101 (with dock) had also gone dead after running one of the KatKiss ROMs (maybe 4.2). Wouldn't charge, wouldn't turn on even to the bootloader or recovery. Charged it for days, nothing. I left it for dead and forgot about it for over 6 months. Uncovered it the other, dusted it off, charged it and it magically powered up. Everything was still on the tablet as it was before it went unresponsive.
My guess is that a microcontroller responsible for powering up the tablet got into a bad state. Even when powered off, these very low power microcontrollers remain on to handle the button press that powers on the device. It took the tablet being absolutely, fully discharged to clear it out of that bad state. Not just 0% as reported by the battery firmware, but a true complete emptying of the battery where its voltage drops below what the microcontroller needs to remain running.
Hopefully if you still have the TF101 after all this time, try charging it up all the way and see if it comes back to life.
Hi all...
I think my N5 is buggered.
I was at a festival this weekend and my phone battery ran out so I left it in my bag for more of the weekend. On the drive back it was working fine as I was using GPs, making calls, using Gplay without any problems. As my GF wanted to charge her phone mine ran out again by the time I got home and I went to charge it as it was down to 2% but when I plugged the charger in it would not charge. It would start charging for a second then stop for a second and then start again. So I unplugged it and went to give it a re-boot and the screen came back on corrupted like this -

I have holding the volume down and power button to get to the fast boot menu and the screen does the same thing but this time while i'm holding it the screen with turn on and off wile vibrating 5-6 times before turning off.
I have even tried using fastboot to flash the recovery image onto the phone and it says everything has worked but again I get the corrupeted screen when I reboot.
Anyone seen or know of this problem? Or is it what I expect and it's got a hardware issue and needs to get repaired?
Thanks in advanced for any help or suggestions.

It's a problem with the flex cable, the screen, or possibly the motherboard.
A few people have had this issue.

Lethargy,
I had a feeling it was going to be a hardware issue. Thank you so much for the help... I'll get it sorted under my insurance then and get myself a temporary phone until then.
Cheers

Any hint about this issue? can't access anything else, the phone is stuck on that screen shape and mode. Tried to reboot and wipe cache already...

Did you ever figure this out? I have a customer's Honor 8 in my repair shop, and it did this as soon as I put the new screen on, and I haven't gotten it out of this mode since, even with the old screen. I've been looking everywhere, but it seems to be a somewhat uncommon problem.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything about this issue on honor 8. I did find people with a similar problem on Galaxy S7 and they said that was because there is a magnet on those smart flip covers and if you're using a fake one or a bad quality one, the magnet might mess up some connection or the sensor under the display... but it sounds very unlikely to me, because any other stronger magnet would be able to cause the same issue then... like even something on your purse/backpack.
Well, but coming back to my device, for some reason the screen is normal again today. I woke up this morning and it was working normally. I called huawei support today because the phone is on the warranty period and had just came back from a screen replacement. So I figured this screen issue was in fact related to some bad connection after the screen replacement. But after I reported them the whole story, I was instructed by the Huawei support to use it and test it during the weekend, because it doesn't sound like a bad connection or malfunctioning since now it's working fine.
What I did yesterday was to turn the phone off (btw, while I had this screen issue, I couldn't actually turn it off... everytime I tried it, the phone rebooted automatically)... so... I turned it off and on again but on the safe mode (press and hold volume down as soon as you see the "H" from honor). I tought the safe mode could help, but it didn't change anything on the screen. Then, still on the safe mode I plugged the phone on my laptop to do a backup on HiSuite and then be able to do a factory reset... I thought this was another option to solve the screen issue, but I never concluded this operation because my laptop was also having some problems (not a lucky day for me hehe).. so in the end I just left the phone on safe mode and connected to the laptop to charge over night... I woke up a few hours later, the battery was on 100%, the safe mode was on, and also the screen was on and on full mode - showing the last notifications from apps... I went to the configurations immediately and turned off the smart cover mode. All my apps icons were disorganized... I organized everything again and decided to turn on the smart cover mode to try it out... it happens it's working fine since this morning even on the smart cover mode.
I really don't know what happened and neither how it got fixed..
The only reasonable thing I can consider to have caused this issue besides the magnet sensor or a software bug, is that I had some lock screen wallpapers saved to my SD card, which is slow speed. That might have caused some conflict when I opened the flip cover. When you open the flip cover, one of the wallpapers should appear, so maybe the phone had a hard time trying to read the file from the sd card and the screen was stuck... I did try to solve the issue by removing the sd card but nothing happened, so I honestly don't know...
Actually i had a different issue about the flip cover. When i was calling someone, even when the call was closed, the status bar remained Green with the call screen still open. Now after a reset the bug is gone. The strange thing on your problem is that's caused by the Honor cover and not by a chinese one..
Hi everyone
This problem was encountered on the screen. What could be the problem?
It gets better in a few hours. Becoming old

will nobody answer?
This forum is dead, but I also had that problem but only for few minutes and it disappeared and never showed again. It was maybe 3 months ago.
I also have problem with trail behind finger, try to press really hard on grey background and maybe you will notice it too.
I had the same problem twice and it vanished after I switched it off then left it off for half an hour or so.
I noticed it happened twice after I had my table lamp shining on the front for hours. After avoiding to put my phone directly under the table lamp, the problem hasn't come back for a couple of months now.
Yep same problem than you twice and was worst since the whole screen went white... Then after some hours it was ok.
I suspect it was because of the cold, LCD panel can get some display problems when they are exposed to low temperature.
Me too! 2 time
I hope this problem does not cause any trouble.
Me too, last night after charging the phone, i check the phone battery, turn on and omg bleeding like your image ?..pretty scary! I turn off and sleep.. And morning display just fine.
I have sent my phone for repairs because of white lines and burn in marks and I got new display but again tonight I was out in cold and it left marks after finger and I see white lines.
I had the same problem and I sent to service (it's under warranty) because I also had problems with charging, came back yesterday now I see if he shows up again.
Mine is also under warranty but it looks that all displays have some factory problems. Did you test your in the cold place?
I have the same problem. So far it has happened twice. The screen around the edges turned white. The first time was not so bad...this was many months back.
The second time was yesterday, the phone was plugged in for charging since last night (just like every night before this), I woke up in the morning, checked my phone, and the screen had gone white around the edges. This time it got me really worried, because the white areas are quite big/thick (see photo attached). I tried restarting, switching off phone for a few minutes. The white area still there. But I kept using the phone as normal (had to work and needed to use my phone). And as the day goes on, the screen gets better by itself, and by end of the day, it is completely back to normal. Really weird. I have no idea what caused this, and how it can go back to normal by itself.
Reading this thread, looks like I'm not the only one who had this problem.
when phone got high temp this problem made in many display panels,,,your phone temp got very high !!
i hope this ways fixed your display :
go to play store and download display calibration apps....before calibration set brightness to max and go setting-display and set color to sRGB and set display temp to full cold...
it was probably from extreme cold environment
heat the screen with the blow dryer
not too hot
---------- Post added at 10:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:28 PM ----------
this occurs in a cold and humid environment
keep the phone in a warm and dry place
Some of the forum from Taiwan said that it may caused by "Always On Display", you may try turning the AOD off and see the result.
Just experienced this issue few hours ago.
So the temperature is 20° and the humidity is less than 60, compared with other times when went higher.
I went to bed and when I woke up.... was about to smack my phone to the wall, luckily I realized in time I have no other replacement.
Then I found this thread and was advised that all I have to do is.... wait, nothing more. So, I watched a movie and by the time it finished, everything went back to normal. Thank you. ?
Something irrelevant to the topic or the site itself, just want to make sure that is only a coincidence, although not a nice one. Did it happen for you to be a special day or just turned out of the blue?
