Does anyone have Google Voice yet?
I have it.
It's neat to play with. I set it up so my parents can have a local number to call me.
Isn't there a way you can use your cell phone with it?
Yup, you can set it all up with any phone you want. When you want to dial from it, you dial you gv number, enter your password, press 2, then the number you wish to dial, then the # key. And voila! you placed a call.
You can even set up contacts to dial it that way with pauses in the proper places.

Hi,
in the old (and current I believe as well) Nokia phone - and most other pure mobile phones for that matter - you can dial a "p", typically by holding down the "*" for a while. The "p" makes the phone wait a little while before continuing to dial the rest of the number.
I need this feature!!!
I am using some prepaid phone cards for which this feature is really necessary.
So, anyone have a clue how to get a similar functionality on WM5? The "p" certainly does not work ...
Thanks in advance - Andy
if you're dialing live, you can dial only the connection number then open the keypad to dial the rest of the keycode manually. If you want to automate it, create a contact with the full number and you can enter in "p" there.
I have a contact for my voicemail which dials the voicemail and waits and the pin + #. this works great with voicecommand cause all I have to do is say "call voicemail" and it'll dial, enter in the password automatically and I don't have to touch the phone at all...
Interesting ... I did migrate all my number from my previous phone, where i had the "p" included in the number. The numbers also seemingly came up correctly on the PPC phone. However, when I tried to dial the number, it would not take the complete number with the "p" - I cannot remember exactly what it did, but it did not dial the whole thing. Thats why I thought/ hoped that there is another way. I guess, after what you are saying, I should give it another try ...
And yes, the application that you are describing is very similar to what I want to use. There is a prepaid international call provider, which has a local dial-in number and lets me call abroad for very little money. I call the local number - the service provider recognizes my account by the incoming phone number of my mobile - and then I dial the destination number. For the recognising part however, it is needed that the phone waits a little before it continues to dial the destination number.
Alright, alright .... works! Thx for the assurance! Tried it again and it just takes a lot longer - the pause is longer - than it used to be on my Nokia. Also, I do not hear the dialing tones after the "p" anymore, which probably put me off before.
Thanks! Thread closed
Try replacing the "p" with a "," . It will pause for a few seconds once the other side picks up the phone.
A while back I must have done something to switch my default voicemail password to my Google Voice number. I'm not able to set up GVoice to be my default mailbox, and more importantly, I'm not able to access the default AT&T mailbox, so I've got a pesky icon in my notification area, and the only number it has stored for VM is my Gvoice number, which doesn't receive any voicemail.
I need the default number that AT&T mailboxes use, so I can press and hold "1" and it won't dial Gvoice.
Your voicemail number is going to be different depending on where you live. It will more often have the same area code that you use etc. Of course you can always access your voicemail by calling your own number and then pressing the * or # key on your phone (cant remember which one, usually the * key). Then it will ask you to put in your information, password in the case. That is it, you have your voicemail. (doesnt everyone know this? At one point that was the only way you could even access your voicemails back in the day)
To get your VM number for the area you live in you need to call customer care. There isn't a default number to call. It uses your service area to provide the correct number. You should actually be able to reset your VM settings in the phones settings (in some cases) and this will put the default number back in place. Of course if you have been flashing your phone that might not be the case always.
I don't like the current options you get with the google voice app. 99% of the time i dont need to make a call with google voice, so getting prompted every time i make a call asking me if i want to make the call with voice or not is annoying.
What i would like is a one click way of dialing a number with google voice when i need to. Maybe a shortcut on one of the desktop - click it, it gives me the same basic interface i have now when dialing a number, and it just dials with my voice number.
Any way to do that? It's kind of dumb that even within the voice app itself, you can't just say 'call a number'. I have to go into the settings and switch it back to asking me, and then when i am done, go back and switch it back to do not ask.
Does anyone know of a good way to have your Google phone number show in caller ID by default?
Without porting your google number to your phone carrier...
I know if I go through the google voice app and call from there it will show my Google phone number in caller ID, but it's kind of clumsy. I have to have the number saved as a contact first, there's no number pad to just make a call, etc.
Thanks

In google voice, go to settings, and change "Making calls" setting.to always use google voice to make calls
Any call you make from now on will show your google voice number. (You can also put the google voice widget on your home screen to toggle between the various settings for GV (always use your phone#, always use GV#, always ask, use only for international calls)

Exactly what this guys said, you can have it ask every time you make a phone call to choose what number to call fom, or you can set it to which ever you want to use. Its in the 1st setup of google voice after installing. or in the GV settings..
Thanks, I got it.
In addition to above, it seems like it you have to use the area code(even for local calls) when dialing out for it to work.
Just something to note for anyone searching for a solution.
Hi Everyone,
Sorry if similar has been posted, I tried doing a search but I was not able to find anything for this.
So far I am loving my new watch. I have been doing a bit of playing around with it and the most recent thing I have been working on is getting google voice to be used for voicemail.
So I am newish to google voice and have not been using it for voicemail or anything until now, but I figure now I have two numbers and two voicemails and combining them to one would be great.
So I have configured my cellphone number and watch number with google voice. I have setup my google voice number to be the number that is forwarded to for voicemail for both my phone and watch. So far, initial testing seems to be going great except for one minor thing. On my watch, if I do a reboot it changes the default voicemail number that I would use to call my voicemail on the watch from my google voice number back to the default T-Mobile number. This is just a minor inconvenience as I could just setup a separate contact to be able to call the google voice number. I just like to be able to just tell it to dial voicemail though.
Has anyone else done anything similar yet, if so are you seeing the same issue. I am thinking that the watch has an issue with saving some default things as I have had it wipe out watch settings and stuff as well.
Thanks
I too am interested in this kind of setup. Been using Google Voice as my default VM for my cell. Can't get it to stick once I set it up on my Gear S2 and it reoots.

Is your problem the same as mine where the default number that the watch is using to call out to check voicemail is going back to the default? Or is your actual number for people calling in to the watch and it going to voicemail being reset?
So the google voice voicemail seems to work great for watch and for phone. The issue with the number clearing out on the watch after a reboot really isn't a big headache as I don't power off the watch often so far.
One of the things I was thinking to try was to change the default number on my phone that is associated with the 1 key for voicemail to my google voice number and see if that would sync it over to the watch that way. I am trying to figure out how to change the default number associated to my voicemail though.
I have a Note 5 on T-Mobile and the voicemail settings is grayed out. I have read that I can root the device and then it would give me access to system files which I could then modify to be able to access the voicemail settings. I was hoping to do this without having to do a root on the phone. Has anyone else ran into this issue and is there any resolution for it without a root?
Thanks

I went through the step by step process directly on the Google Voice website for adding a new # to my google voice account. Once your watch has been successfully added, GV will give you the ** (GV phone number) # sequence to dial in through your watch to permanently activate GV as your default voice mail. I have since rebooted my S2 several times and every single time my voicemail is set to Google Voice.

I followed the same instructions as well. For me it works to update the voicemail so when that phone rings the google voice voicemail is the one that the caller is directed to.
But if I go into the settings there is a number to use for voicemail, That doesn't update when I use the google voice instructions. So I manully change it to my google voice number, after a reboot it clears back to the default T-Mobile number.
So I noticed a bit of an issue today with using google voice as my voicemail for the watch and phone. Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on a work around.
So basically I have my phone and watch setup with the forwarding to go to my google voice number for voicemail only. The problem I am having is that when I lose the bluetooth connection to the watch, the call forwarding sends calls from the phone to the watch. When the bluetooth connection is established again, the call forwarding disables and it sets my call forwarding number on the phone back to the default t mobile number and not my google voice number. So then I have to dial the forwarding number again to setup the forwarding to google voice every time my phone connects remotely to my watch.
A couple of thoughts on it but I am not sure if any are possible.
The ideal situation would be if I could just change the default number away from t mobile's default and have it be my google voice number, so if it resets then it would reset back to google voice number. Anyone know if this can be done if I root the note?
The other thought would be some kind of program that would run that anytime the watch first establishes bluetooth connection to the phone, the phone will auto dial the number that does the call forwarding to my google voice number, this would allow it to fix itself each time it established.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Did you ever find a solution to this? I just got Gear s3 and in the same boat. When I establish connection to watch again the phone defaults to t-mobile voicemail number and not my GV one.
