[PROJ] Removable QWERTY keyboard - General Topics

How many times have you seen a cool phone and thought "damn I wish that phone had a QWERTY keyboard!". Well now there is a solution to it.
I found this (link at the bottom of the message) QWERTY keyboard while looking for some chinese cloned phones. It looks pretty owesome!! Now how the hell do we get this to work. BTW I can buy this phone and get the QWERTY keyboard. Then I want to use the QWERTY keyboard for some decent phones. But how can we do that?? I dont think it will be like windows XP that I can plug it in and it will find the driver and all done!
So any ideas on how do I proceed with this?
Thanks

You are very unlikely to get this working with any other phone. If you want a keyboard then you are probably better off looking at bluetooth options such as the logitech dinovo mini, or some of the folding ones.

x7510 without hardware keyboard

I have come to see that the HTC Advantage and the Athena are far more usable without the hardware keyboard, but with a soft keyboard like FingerBoard2. When you use it this way, you start to feel that the new HTC HD2 with its "giant" 4.3" screen and without a hardware keyboard is really just trying to be like the Advantage (4.8" screen). If you have the Advantage or Athena, I encourage you to use the FingerBoard2 downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=173789&d=1239120866
You would be tempted to lock away your hardware keyboard!
The only thing I miss is a skin-type cover for it. Any idea where I can get such skin case?
+1 on that
I don't even know where my hardware keyboard is, I haven't used it for at least a year. Once you get rid of it you don't ever want it back. Without it x7510 is a fantastic phone/pda device, maybe the best made to this day. With the keyboard it is a cramped and crippled mini netbook. Throw the damn keyboard away!
finger keyboard unsuccessfull installing

Do you mean suggestions for a soft keyboard? My post points to FingerBoard2. There are certainly others, like TouchPal (by Cootek) and SPB Keyboard, both of which cost some money. Forget SPB Keyboard because it does not have arrow keys. Even if they were all free, I would still prefer FingerBoard2 which is completely free.
i have spb

Apple Mini USB Keyboard

Hi all,
I have an Apple Mini USB keyboard which is the perfect size, but it doesn't work. I tried a larger Dell keyboard and that works fine. Is there any way I can get the Apple one working?
Thanks
(shakes head) maybe you're holding it wrong.. hahaha.. sorry couldnt help myself
Bump
I'm in exactly the same situation. I have the nice little aluminum Apple USB keyboard. It would be nice if it worked.
It's worked with other tablets in the past.
I'm not sure I like the idea of having to run out and buy a new mini keyboard just because the one I have is not supported.
A Dell USB keyboard works when connected thru the Apple keyboard, so the USB hub in the Apple keyboard is working, and it is not a USB host or power thing.
I'm using CM7
Do a search in the Accessories section
There are several threads with this as a topic since that is a pretty sweet looking keyboard. I believe a member named prescott1 has gotten it to work first but others have also gotten it to work with a few different roms on the gTab. Here is one thread but there are many others.

[Q] Bluetooth keyboard

Can anyone recommend a decent bluetooth keyboard? I would like one that would also work with other machines such as a windows laptop (I am just future proofing a bit here!)
Thanks.

I have the Motorola Keyboard and use it between the desktop and Xoom all the time. Really convenient with the volume buttons and such (as they both work for windows and the Xoom).
hipstreet keyboard/case combo is pretty nice. feels secure and the screen props at a nice angle. pretty much makes it feel like a touchscreen laptop
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Bought the Moto keyboard for $40 a couple of weeks ago and they threw in a mouse. Can't beat the deal and it's a very solid keyboard. Bit plasticky in build in comparison to some others I've used (and the Xoom itself) but it seems like it should hold up to daily abuse just fine.
Acer has a nice compact Android specific keyboard as well. I have both the Acer and the Motorola and like the Acer for it's size, build and typing feel better than the Moto.
Motorola keyboard is good.
Thanks all. I've ordered the moto one. It should arrive tomorrow. It'll sure beat typing on screen.
My Motorola keyboard arrived the other day. It's well-built although the layout of some of the keys takes a little getting used to. Quite why the forward apostrophe ' and the backwards one ` are where they are I don't know, as they're the wrong way round.
And it`s (see) a British layout, with the pound sterling symbol above the 3, but ICS is refusing to play ball and pressing that gives me #. Pressing quote gives me @ and pressing rats-tail at gives me "
I know there is a separate thread about this; I assume it`s (there it is again, wrong!) because I have the US ICS ROM.
It's also a bigger keyboard than I had expected, but it is at least easy to type on.
But right now I just kind of wish I had got a standard Windows keyboard, at least I know instinctively where the keys are on that.
The media and Android keys are useful, but on the wifi XOOM, ones like MMS/text are useless - the ability to redefine their action would be useful.
And anyone know what the three horizontal lines key, next to END, is supposed to do?

Physical Qwerty keyboard for One X: what options do we have?

Hi guys. I came to the One X after owning a huge load of smartphones equipped with physical qwerty keyboards. I do type decently on the One X, but I miss the precision of physical qwerty.
What options do we have, among either Bluetooth and NFC keyboards? I know there are some horrible chinese keyboards, but I consider those quite useless.
There is for example a Logitech Dnovo Mini, how could we hook it up (physically) to our One X? How long would it take to the phone to recognize it? Would there be any lags in typing?
Has anyone found another way?
Post your thoughts here!!!
Best
Tony
Can't speak of the Dinovo Mini specifically, but I have this full -sized Logitech Bluetooth keyboard, that I bought for my HTC Flyer tablet. Don't really use it that much. But it gets recognized by the tablet very quickly (as fast as any other BT device, like headset). Typing is very responsive, and has no significant lag. If the Dinovo Mini works anything the same (and you like the form factor), I think you would be pleased with it.
It's not likely we will see a slide-out keyboard for the One XL.
The camera bulge and shape of the phone makes producing the cases troublesome. The placement of the camera is also an issue, a slide out keyboard would cover the camera and flash.
The only phones that have historically gotten keyboard cases are flat-backed phones with the camera in the corner. The iPhone 5 will be geting a keyboard, the LG nexus might as well.
Our only hope is that the one X+ is the same shape as the one XL, so if anyone makes a keyboard for that phone we could use it as well.
If you just want a keyboard, any bluetooth keyboard will work. A quick search for "bluetooth mini keyboard" will show you plenty of results.
What existing bluetooth keyboard are there as best options? As far as size goes, I'd want a 7.7" keyboard max (better if 5"). I'd really want to skip links to the chinese samples for sale on eBay, those aren't going to fit my requirements for a reason or another.
I have seen the Logitech Dinovo Mini Keyboard. I'd have to invent a way to attach the two as if they were a single device, most of the time. Did anyone do that?
Thanks!!
Tony

any slide keyboard cases ?

Hey guys
I'm looking for a case with a slide able keyboard in it. There are some products for other phones that I found, like for an old iPhone 4 but nothing for our loved note 9.
If you see something please tell me.
It would be the only reason for me to use a case... Just imagine to slide out a real Bluetooth connected keyboard when you need to answer a long mail for example
Thanks

I got you, but I highly doubt any company will sell that product, as the phone screen get bigger, no need an extra keyboard.

Plus Android has sucked at bluetooth keyboards for a long time. Just the way a physical keyboard is handled by the OS sucks.
Every time you click on a text box your on-screen keyboard will appear regardless that you have a Bluetooth keyboard connected. I hate to bring Apple in this but they handle that so much better, like if external keyboard connected -> don't use half of the screen for the on-screen keyboard.

I hear you man
I bought my Note9 because it makes the user interface /experience a little more
like the desktop i am used to. Tapping on a touchscreen is very ineffective so the S-pen and some tricks
really improve our everyday use.
I would also like to search for this item, first of all it should be a keyboard that flips/slide
as you will need a case for your phone anyways. Just look at this nice product (too bad its another phone)
but it offers a tactile real keyboard as the top cover:

Really?
No fix for that?
i use b.o.w HB199 it is very compact
I have long hated the virtual keyboard. Well good news! You can tell it to hide when a hardware keyboard is present, it's in settings :input.
Now, I'd pay $100 for a GOOD slider keyboard specifically fitting our Note 9. I loved the Droid 2. That phone design was dope. A bigger qwerty slider would be amazing. I am faster with a slider keyboard. If there was such a thing... I'd pay up. I may try to 'make' one someday like I have seen some here do.
