After messing around with about 5 or so different ROMs i found, what i think to be the fastest Hero ROM ever.
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=918
It runs really well, and is very snappy.
For myt3g, it needs the blurry fix, which he provides also... but after that... no bugs whatsoever. I am running this on a class4 sandisk 4gb flash, with 512 ext4 and 192 swap. awesome!
32A Or 32B ??
32B, since its for the MT3G/G1
32B. i am loving it!
Did he fix the boot screen so it doesn't scream Mightmax at you? I can't have that screaming at me at a client meeting
Faster than MLIGN-HeroV2.5.5?
Yes, better without screaming MightyMax! on boot

For my work well on a Vodafone 32b, only many app crash without apparent reason, any solution for it?
-CarMode
-FonMaps
-Buka
-SU File Manager & Terminal
And many others apps can't work on this ROM
Can you solve this feature?
And one more question, is possible base this ROM on Android 1.6? I think it can work more fast with Donut, because it is more optimized for 32b devices.
Wow!!!
I was a little skeptical about trying a ROM from a dev from another site, but man I'm glad I did. This thing is incredible! I've only been using it for about 5 hours but I think this just shut the Hero ROM game down! I made a 192MB swap partition with 80 swappiness, and clocked the CPU to 384-528. No force closes, no reboots, apps spring open, the desktop screens scroll fluidly, apps pop open immediately, very fast keyboard, so far this seems fast as vanilla Android! So far my only complaint is there is no weather on the flip clock for some reason. I have been using "Weather Widget - Donate" from the Market instead. Oh, and the Mighty Max audio clip during start up is a little annoying, but definitely not a deal breaker. Try it, trust me!
How fast? Good enough??
Personally I don't think talking about the word fast any more an issue for 32A Magic. I have been trying most of 32B Hero ROMs and there is noting significant I say about them on my 32A. Every Hero ROM looks frikin fast to me now.
I believe is that how much of battery would run along on a single charge that what we should address on Hero ROMS now. Drizzy's Blur 1.5.7 Hero ROM last long fine. After all its CyanogenMod 4.1.999 is that I can say the best.

Well I can say that with 32B devices performance typically varies greatly with different ROMs. So far I'm loving this on my 32B sapphire. Enjoy that extra RAM, show off .
smoothest hero rom yet for me, he did a good job on this

change user.conf, you dont need Swapper.
This ROM is posted here on xda in the dream forum -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=570700
I flashed it last night - 32b - and I have to say, I'm impressed and surprised. This one is running really smooth - and very responsive. "Best" one I've tried yet.
Where is this guy, and why is he not active in XDA?!
This is BY FAR the best Hero ROM i have ever tried... WOW!
THANK YOU FOR SHARING! (I could kiss you! haha)
MightyMax, I could kiss you too!
One question: Has anyone tried straining from the default swap settings, maybe enabling CC and backing_swap? If so, please post your results.
Personally I find this ROM flying, and even Benchmark Pi is FASTER than with CyanogenMod, but I am wondering what we could get by playing around with CompCache... In the meantime, I'm going to try and tweak it, and be sure to post results back here.

Well as pbaird mentioned in the post before yours he is active on XDA, in the Dream section. He goes by the name of mghtyred. After scanning through that thread I know he dropped Compache because it was causing problems. LS has always seemed faster to me anyway.
touchflo crashes all the time for me when i press the home button coming from an app, anyone else get this? i was thinking of extending the linux swap but i cant because im not an admin on my computer...anyone got any performance hints?

sorry was more meaning to set it into the Heron rom.
The other forum for Dream someone has stripped rosie and standard launcher out and added this in.
I was thinking that as this would likely allow a real Rosie feel and indeed some more benefits, is it not possible that the hero rom could run a lot faster.
we would then have all the benefits of hero plus the feel of rosie plus the gestures.
Hope that explains my need for a genius
Cheers gald you like it it works a charm
installed widget fine but can't get home screen replacement to install. says that it already exists so i stuffed. still like the gesture thing at bottom. nice share

What seems to be happening for you.
I am using back hero rom and just used the adb install command to put both the widget and the open gesture.
is that what you did.
I have a feeling that you might not be able to do it with other launcher in as this isnt on the rom I am using
hope that helps because this wroks a charm real fast.

Time might update for me and not you as I am running Hero rom by jepeara
I agree is weather could be done and maybe calender then who need rosie I think this might be better .
I have no lag and flash player and sense ui for multi touch.

ah i wuill flash hero v1.4 and disable touchflo and add this app......... nice replacement mate you are right. hero v1.4 is much quicker when home is enabled and not touchflo. now i can use hero rom without losing the looks and speed!
Correct my friend.
Can you report back how it performs I am using the stripped down version of hero not fatalitys version 1.4 so would be really keen to fine out how it performs.
Just thought I would run it on one rom for a period of time due to degreding performance issues seen on hero roms in the past.

i love that fatal1ty hero rom but 1.4 is just too slow and battery hungry. 1.2 is still better than 1.4 in my opinion as more time was spent getting it right. will try it on 1.2 now
right i installed this over fatal1ty hero v1.4 and disabled touchflo to get google base which works rather well. i enable the open gesture home replacement and widget and i now have all i asked for............ a hero rom with speed and stability not compromised! been using for hours now and its swank! hope some of the chefs can incorporate this into one of their builds. google home with hero look this defo is! very good find friend!
edit: looks like the powers that be have done it again. closed access to the page where the downloads were. says no access! don't know why? hate it when that happens.
Does this work on a standard Rom? What does this do exactly? Multi touch in browser?
it allows you to makes gestures on screen to launch programs or contacts by the pattern you draw on screen.
No Idea why download stopped by this in a rom would be fine.....

That depends,
I was commenting on how it works with Roms and the developement of, and how a program like this could be used as home in a hero rom to try and improve it.
so in my opinion No but each to their own
Still running really smooth have now tried on 2 hero versions if only I could strip rosie out think this would be a good alternative
If you are wondering what the hell [LEWLSWSE] stands for, Then your should know it stands for
"Life's Easier With Linux-Swap With Some Extras"
At first this thread was a hella lot of info and my opinions but, alot of people found this thread to be corrupt,stupid,pointless,G1bricking, and a hec of alot of typos. So I'm finally re-editing it to be Better than what it was before.
(oh yeah and for those who found the typos(as in bad commands) Thank You!) I was usually editing from my phone at like 1 in the morning so please don't be angry. And sorry for the bad language I've been qute furious the past week, due to the heat here in cali.
To start,
Linux-Swap( I want a faster Hero/Cupcake!!!! Is what your Saying )
1st things first
I'm not going to tell you whats the best Linux-Swap Size is, because mainly, I don't have your G1's. And all g1's are different and respond better, to certain size swaps. So pretty much I'm going to just give my G1's results and what was perfect for me and what ran better for ME, not you because like i said YOU have to find that sweet spot on your G1
and for me that sweet spot is 96mb.
Cupcake ROM's 4 Me:
For me all cupcake ROM's were perfect(kinda), I'm not gonna mention names here but in majority for a super highly responsive cupcacke.
Use 64mb
Hero ROM's:
In majority Hero ROM's need a swap. period.. because there super resource hoggers and require alot of G1 power/stuff to be running smoothly, plus the fact that it wasn't ment to be on a G1.(but that will soon change) Thanks to all the devs.
Anyways for me any pretty much all of the Hero ROM's, i found that 96mb is perfect for pretty much any, mainly because from everytime of flashing back and fourth on my G1 i found that 96mb was in the lead no matter what i did. And even though i felt dumb trying to outsmart the ROM cookers, I was successful, and was able to run a stable Hero for about a week, but longer then that i wouldn't know because, i quit the testing figuring it was perfect
In general Use 96mb
Now everybody remember this is MY G1 not yours
My G1 may and does act differently then your does. So you would have to find the sweet spot your self to find out what best for you,
In my opinion the majority of the dream owners find that 96mb was perfect for any ROM Cupcake/Hero
Basically 96mb is perfect for Someone who switches back from cupcake to hero, so its kinda hybrid like those ugly @ss cars you see on the street
And for me I guess im using a Hybrid Swap because i find, myself switching from stable cupcake to sluggish(remember thats ISH) Rosie. TO see how shes been doing(Kinda Better)
Am so yeah Linux-Swap play around with it find your G1's sweet spot
Its not that hard its actually quite easy, So have fun!
Anyways here the extras as i meantioned in the title.
(How to)Formating your SD, Then reformating it to fat32/ext2/linux-swap
How to Format(meaning everything deleted) your card using recovery console
however this is only through Cyanogens Recovery so if you don't have it, Get at it!!! HERE!!!
Right Click to save as .img
http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/cm-...m/sd/*
and yes that is a star don't forget it
Need more info like (Hero)
1. How many screens do you use
2. What, if any widgets do you use
3. How many app icons (if any)
4. Do you use Mail or just gMail
5. How many apps are installed
I think all this is relevant due to the fact that the more stuff you have running will cause it slow down. What I mean by running? Well do you have Mail,Tweeter, Weather and so on, set up which checks for updates at timed intervals.

and if you try it out for set the swappiness to 60 or 80
THis is a friendly forum and people don't mean any hard. Everyone needs to just chill out and enjoy this great thread and ignore other comments. Why should a comment on the internet bother you? Don't take offense to something written on a forum people. Come on people you guys are above this. Just read, post your opinion, and respect other's opinions. BTW after reading this all I need is bluetooth and fully functioning LEDs to run Hero now. Thanks jf4888!
as far as Swap partition is concern you should NEVER make it bigger than the actual RAM of your computer/phone.
So if the HTC Dream has 192MB of RAM (but only 98MB are free/usable/recognized by the OS) that means the linux-swap CAN be set to 96MB but it SHOULD NOT go any higher dont be absurd..
i've used 96MB with no problems "although it might become unstable in a long run".
so if you wanna use 96mb go ahead.. it will run just fine!
and if you like been a little superticious 192MB + 96MB ' linux-swap ' = 288MB (same of Hero's memory capacity) your Hero ROM might think you have the actual phone
gl hf
Waiting for answers to my questions please!
I have read people say "My hero is on crack, its so fast" only to find out they only use 1 or 3 screen and no widgets.
I personally tried 32, 96 and now on 64
I found 96 to work for a few days, mind you I was overclocking it and was using task killer and auto starts to modify what's runs at start up and killing apps every time I went home just to keep it running smooth. Pain ass! (And yes I excluded TouchFlo from task killer)
So I went with 64 and by far its more reliable and I have NOT used autostarts or task killer.
I I have NOT seen a htc or loading since boot up.

Mike has an excellent point... the fact is that everyone's phone is different, so while 30 swappiness on compcache, for example, is optimum for my phone, he may run at 25 to be as fast. I have to agree with his overall position, and I take exception to how you started off your original post. You don't know what's best for everyone else's phone.
Essentially, your results only apply to your phone. At best they're a good starting point for the rest of us... but that's it.
Aside from that, I'm surprised that many people are even running linux-swap partitions still... old tech.
Thank you this helped, I was using a larger swap then 32mb on JacxHero and was getting crazy FC errors like you said... now I know why it happened and can switch back to that rom later if I want.
How long did you run at each of these settings? What were you running? Was your setup even close to the same between the different ROMs? Which applications were your testing?
If you are using a 96Mb swap you better reboot your phone a lot or it is going to get really laggy. Ask Drizzy. He even posted on his twitter to everyone to stop whining that Hero slows down after a few days if they are going to use a 96Mb swap.
If you are using anything but Hero you should not be using swap at all. Compcache with backing swap is MUCH more efficient than regular Linux Swap. Maybe I should start a thread that says Don't Use Linux Swap with cupcake ROMs.

Linux Swap is worse on xROM than any other ROM I have tried it on.
Why don't people listen to the recommendations of the developers who are cooking the ROMs?

I'm sure your intentions are good but your method sucks. You have provided no details to what you did, how you did it, or why. If you want to explain exactly what you did and how you benchmarked your results that would be great. If you are just going to say "I tried this setting and it 'felt' faster" you are wasting your time. Did you use any benchmarking software? Did you run any specific processes and time them?
Cupcake vs. AOSP
Cupcake ROM's:
Cyanogens Mod's: From stable to unstable etc...
I found that with his ROM's you really dont need a huge partition(Kinda Obvious) and that pretty much running his ROM on any swap size
32,48,64,96,... is good it actually just gets better(for me).
So in General: Use a 64mb partiton, its perfect.
Click to collapse
JacXROM: This ROM actually doesn't need a swap(Its an AOSP) thats why but i just tested it out to see what happend, i actually found that it slowed down, after surpassing 32mb partition, for some reason it lost its snap and eventually became crazy, and forced me to flash back to cyan becuase of a crazy FC error with a bigger swap :/ ??.
So in general for Jacx Use a 32mb partition

@jf4888 - What is the difference between a cupcake build and an AOSP build? Why does one need swap and the other one doesn't? Please explain this to me.
Edit: I'm sorry if you feel like I am being an jerk. I just hate to see people post threads where they give people misleading information, which you have. You lost all credibility with your post when you started saying that Cyan and xROM are different because one uses AOSP and the other uses cupcake. Not to mention your post was poorly worded and you added "I don't know" about things that you are claiming to know about. If I'm wrong and you can prove that you have found a magic configuration that works - prove it. Back up your findings with your method. Show us your work. Give us the details that we need to reproduce your findings.
If anyone would like some help getting their ROM running faster feel free to PM me. I haven't had a chance to tune anything for Hero but my configuration works really well with xROM and Cyan.
very nice thread
im currently using 32mb and hit a loading screen if i like leave peep on and my phone goes to sleep thats prob the only time
other than that im good
ill wait till drizzy drops the new hero and try out 96mbs and will load the phone with widgets and will post results
so far really nice thread
thanks for the hard work
thanks

Why is no one porting MotoBlur and Pulse to the Sapphire MT3G? Why is everyone so stuck on Hero?
There HAVE been blur ports in the past. Do a little research before you make generalized statements. And Hero is more popular because it already came off an HTC device. It's easier to cook.
Please do just a little research before creating a new topic!
now the real question is why we dont see these for the 32a
Moto Blur & Pulse
Question, and maybe someone can direct me where to find it but whats the difference between Pulse, and Motoblur?
Polaris and Ronni... I did research before posting and found only one pulse rom and 3 motoblur roms compared to the hundreds of hero roms. My post was simple and just a question. Why? That was all. If I was a youngster with no forum know how, then your down talking would be understood. Thanks anyway.

Sorry but your post "Why is no one porting MotoBlur and Pulse to the Sapphire MT3G?" makes it seem like you didn't research at all. Like polaris0352 wrote is that Hero is easier to cook plus it's more popular. But i hope it won't be long before we start to see more non-htc roms for our magics!
I think part of the reason is that GPS and WiFi don't work, which means the uptake is a lot less. Once WiFi and GPS are working (which apparently won't happen until Dragon is available) then I'd bet more ports of these roms will start to appear. I like Blur and would make it my permanent rom if the wireless wasn't an issue.

because hero comes from an HTC phone wich would lead one to believe it would be much easier to run on our HTC phones...
motoblur was alright didnt like the feel and its hard to make moto and HTC play nice
Pulse....welll.... i think pulse sucked others like it though
I know there are at least 3 pulse roms that are decent and there are 2-3 blur roms that run enough to use

I've created 32A porting packages for both Pulse and MotoBlur ROM some time ago.

Im running a Blur Rom that WiFi is working on but there were no instructions on partition setup, if any. It is real smooth but when I put my own wallpaper on, it seems to slow down a bit.

Can you Post a Link to the WiFi working Blur?
I've not seen any Blur with WiFi working at all due to the Kernel requirements.
I will have to find the link for you guys. The Rom is running on my MT3G 32B Rooted. Im going to assume that the WiFi works for that Im using WiFi Tether to connect to the internet with my laptop as I type. I will get a link after while. The file name is MotoCliq_v0.5.zip. I think Drizzy put it out. Not for certain though.

The reason for the lack of ports is honestly the firmware being so tied to social aspects. All the "cool" features are in the UI with the social stuff, but the rest of the firmware... well... sucks. I ported both and got bored in a couple days. Hero has new dumps and new versions of sense and the prospect of updating to 1.6 and eventually 2.0 These are done. One dump, one version, no projected future. Not much room to grow. Hero has all the features this does and then some, with the exception of universal inbox and the way launcher reacts. Pulse isnt really much of a ROM, either. Its just a cool UI and a bunch of paid apps put together into a firmware.

I hear ya. I just get tired of looking at the same bottom bar and out of all the times I try to ask for help, no one wants to share on how to get started making my own with my own look. I have seen a hero rom with a somewhat Pulse bottom bar and it looked killer but the slowness of the rom was not bareable.
I actually flashed the new Andriod 2.0 Eclair to my phone. It is a stripped down Rom and has nothing in it but MAN do I like the lock screen and menu play. Very nice, clean and cool. I wish I had Eclair with a MotoBlur look and feel and Hero internals. I do like Blur's social widgets. Nice!
This is a mostly unchanged ROM based on King's DroiseEris2G1, with the fixes made by Sunny and Vega on the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642643. However, it includes WG's kernels, which improve performance to an extent that you genuinely wouldn't believe from either a Cyan based kernel, and especially over the BFS-based kernel King was originally using.
I deserve no plaudits for this. All I did was plug in a couple of kernels that WG gave me, shove them into King/Sunny's ZIP file, and resign the lump. It's by no means curing cancer or anything complicated. But as the result turned out to be (IMHO) the quickest Sense ROM I've ever seen I thought I'd share.
Developers, ROM cookers, whoever - feel free to take the ROM, tear it apart, re-pack it, add your own edits. I honestly don't really know much about this ROM cooking lark so it could definitely do with some TLC - but I think it's a worthwhile effort because when it works the WG kernels FLY on this.
What doesn't work:
* Camcorder
* Camera is a bit dodgy. It's the old 2.1 issue. When you take a picture you'll see screen corruption instead of the pic. In the gallery the pic will look a bit dodgy. However when you view the pic it'll be fine. Install and use Camera Magic from the market instead if this bothers you unduly.
* BT I suspect will still not work, even given WG's efforts to address this, simply because BT has never worked in Sense ROMs. I can't test as I have no BT devices.
* 3D will not work in the ramhack version (but you all knew that, right?)
* Keyboard backlights. As a) I have a Magic and b) I wouldn't have a clue how to fix this anyway even if I had a G1, please don't ask about this.
Everything else should work.
Why did I do this? Well, King's original ROM, especially with the tweaks made by Sunny and Vega is a beautiful bit of work. It's the first Sense ROM that's actually been usable on my phone. However, it has a BFS kernel and I absolutely *hate* BFS with a passion. I personally don't think it helps performance that much, and the way it makes the device miss half of your finger swipes so it's like having a resistive screen again. So I decided to see how the WG kernel worked out, being (IMO) the best kernel around at the moment. You simply wouldn't believe the performance increase - skim the thread, see what people are saying.
Enough yakking, give it a try, give some feedback. And most importantly, enjoy and have fun.
Requirements:
* FAT-EXT4-SWAP partitions on your SD. That's EXT4. Not EXT3 or EXT2. You'll get gapps FCs left, right and center if you ignore this little infonugget.
* A nice big SWAP. I've got 106Mb. But at least 96Mb.
New WG kernel, 3D, no ramhack (seems to work on SOME G1s, most if not all MT3Gs)
http://www.4shared.com/file/241108353/30fe6d34/KWG-noRH-try.html
Vega's fix patch for the SMD port error message in logcat, and potentially battery life. In fact if you flash this over the original King ROM you will essentially have what this thread is setting out to achieve, i.e. King's ROM+WG Kernel = epic Sense.
http://www.4shared.com/file/241419118/15d57ab0/droideris-vega-v3-WGkernel.html
This ROM comes with the social networking apps.
Old WG kernel, no 3D, ramhack (known good on G1)
http://www.4shared.com/file/240315699/5ee0521f/KingSunnyWGRamHackSigned.html
This one has no social networking apps. This is included as a bit of a historical artefact, and also as a just in case for those who can't get the latest ROM running on their G1s. This is a known good ROM on the G1. It flies quite nicely but has no 3D.
Thanks to King, Sunny, Vega, WG - and please note I'm just the bloke who thought "wouldn't it be great if we could have this fast kernel on this really nice full-featured ROM". Think of me as a cocktail mixer. Those other guys are the master distillers. (And ignore the donate thread in my sig, that's for BetterBrowser, I don't expect people to donate for me doing no more than shoving a kernel into someone else's work.)
Downloading now, then flashing it to test.
Sounds like it'll be nice thanks for this!
EDIT: Flash went ok, booting now
Took a bit to download from your site, so I threw up a mirror for you:

Gonna test it now! Thnx!
Don't forget to put some disclaimers about how it MAY hurt people G1s
like " I am not responsible to whatever happens to your phone " you never know.
One thing I should mention for those not familiar with the original ROM:
You must, repeat MUST, have an EXT4 partition. Not an EXT2 or EXT3 partition, but EXT4 - otherwise you'll get force closes on all of the gapps.
And you should have a nice big swap. 96Mb is about the going rate.
thanks Loccy! gonna try this out...
you think you'll have a new version when King updates his rom?
Flashing it now, did full wipe, 96mb and ext 4.

ill try to help with the new version without a mytouch or a testing device but hey.. W.e i can do right =]
Finished setup, contacts are syncing, seems a bit snappier so far, but it was sluggish through setup (that's always the case, I know)
Seems overall a bit faster than the original, the true test comes in a bit after it's been running for a bit and I give her a reboot or two.
FYI, 96 MB swap, 640 mb ext 4

The sluggish setup can be not be sluggish if u wait a bit longer like after the initial 5-10 minute wait when u see the lock screen drag the screen down nd give it another 10 minutes nd boom ull fly through the set up i did it and it works flawlessly but that was on the other rom nd yeah .. =[

Honestly? Ain't got a clue I should think it'd be OK, you'd just end up effectively replacing the kernel. You might want to wipe Dalvik as well. No promises, though!

First off am I the only one that wishes the original opengl would stick? Performance was alot better for that one (especially for the nexus wallpaper). Is getting the performance of the original live wallpaper we had and the sticking of the new patch possible? Right now that is the only problem stopping my phone from being the sex.
EDIT: Problem seems to happen when another widget is updated. Its not perfectly smooth, but not bad, but when a widget updates it really slows down the wallpaper to a noticeable halt. I doubt im the first to notice this, but for anyone else that really wants nexus wallpaper, having less widgets on your main page seems to help.
I moved the news+weather widget you see below to another page and it seems to jitter less.
I agree. Losing the performance from the new OpenGL isn't worth having LWP's. They might have a fix for this when Toast's Awesome Sauce ROM is complete.

Ive wanted them ever since i saw them and i think its pretty awesome
that we can run them @ all on a phone that has half the horsepower
as their intended to run on. be happy you have the option. If you like
them i dont really exp all this slowdown everyone is crying about now

hunt you down and put them in your phone.........so the choice is yours
but no sense in being anything other than greatful for what we have atm
unless you have something to help us improve the issue as it stands.
Maybe you could try to solve the issue for us rather than wasting your time

next great fix.Good Luck with your waiting.....Ill be busy asking questions

Yeah I disagree with "there is no point in having them if it is slower".......the patch works pretty dam well with most wallpapers its just the peski nexus being alittle to slow to be usable for me. MagnusRagnarok my OP was not an attack on you at all. I am extremely thankful for what you have done, and hope you have not taken my post that way. I am just trying to see if more people feel the same way as me. For me getting the nexus one wallpaper running alittle bit better would get me closer to completing my phone.
Ill bump since I edited my first post. Hopefully someone finds it helpful.

Hey guys, I know a lot of us have been dying to get the nexus wallpaper working without having to do the opengl fix to make wallpapers stick, seeing as it made the wallpaper ran really choppy. I found a way to get it to stick, run smooth, and not have to change the opengl. I used the update zip posted by emerica6541 and it stuck right on and have ran smooth ever since. Granted he did modify the wallpaper so the lights are smaller, but I think it looks better that way on our heroes due to the smaller screen. It has survived multiple reboots, and over 30 mins of sleep time. I am running darch's legend rom though, so I'm not sure if this will work for damage's or flipz's roms, but its worth a shot.

Just a note though, when you first set the wallpaper, your phone will freeze for a min, then it'll take you to the bootscreen. Once it reloads, you should be good to go.

One thing that is weird is that the LWP stick with the old openGL if its plugged into the computer. Does the phone not sleep if its plugged into a computer?
