I am planning on buying an inspire from USA. It is locked to at&t network. Is it possible to carrier unlock the phone?

Just root it with the hack kit, it's in the Dev section.
Just a reminder, the Inspire will be limited to 2G speed in most countries.

In my experience, if you have been a long-term subscriber to AT&T wireless services, if you call them they will give you the unlock code over the phone. It's what we did (two phones) when we traveled overseas for a few months a couple of years ago. OTOH, "renting" a local SIM card may be a more practical solution.
I have rooted mine and am running on the Telstra NextG network no problems.

simply rooting it with ace hack tool kit will carrier unlock this phone PERMANENTLY
I went to my att.com, clicked on the tech support chat link, asked for the code, he gave it to me & the directions 4 verifying unlock. Free, no hassles. Im only a customer for 6 months

There are many ways in Unlocking..You need to choose the safe, secure, legal ways also known method...Some people doesn't know to connect the computer via cables then unlock the mobile. For that people and Sometimes Unlock software leads to data lose in the mobiles for those reasons...I suggest the safe method....In here mod edit Get the Unlock code and Unlock the mobile...I unlocked my mobile using the Unlock code.

Bad English aside - you'd rather pay a fee to unlock your device then read and educate yourself for a day or two, then run an application that will unlock, root, and s-off your device in one easy step?
I've just bought an Inspire 4G, and it's goingo to arrive tomorrow =)
Thank you guys! I almost paid to unlock it...
But, I want some opinions...
I've got a mytouch 3G Slide, and now the Inspire...I guess that both of my carriers 3G frequency is 2100MHz, but I use one with a data plan (on my Slide) and the other just for calls on a another phone...
So...I keep using my data plan on Slide, instead my Inspire, or I won't get any problems using my data plan on Inspire?
Thank you all again

Your inspire will get data, just not at 3g speeds.

Hi,
I rooted my inspire which is locked to ATT using the ACE Hack kit.
Now, if I insert a T-mobile Sim in it, it does not detect any signal, nor it does ask for a Unlock code. I tried to flash the STOCK ROM using Hack Ace, and that did not help.
I am in a kind of a stuck state and not sure of how to proceed with the unlock. Can any one help me out of this situation?
I'm going to go ahead and be nice and answer this. But this has been asked a lot and researching would get you a faster answer then waiting on someone to respond. If you did the hack kit correctly and gained soff then you are sim unlocked. It will not ask you for an unlock code.
Ad to no signal the sum cover needs to be put back on. And as a preemptive answer to two questions commonly asked after this is.
1) no 3g will not work on T-Mobile, nothing you can do. Unless you happen to live in SF where T-Mobile is testing out its 1900mhz 3g
2) still doesn't work- just because your sum unlocked doesn't guarantee any sum will work. I've had where my sister tmo doesn't work on my phone but my brothers sim will. So try another one

Thanks for the response. It is the issue with Sim Cover. it is working fine after i put the cover back on.
I gave my old Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone that I had on T-Mobile to my girlfriend and unlocked it through t-mobile to be able to use it on her AT&T network. She placed her AT&T sim card in the phone and I unlocked it. The phone works fine but it will not go past "Edge" speed, is this due to the different network frequencies or is there anything else there can be done so she can get 3g at least? Would I have to Root the phone to be able to do so or is there any other easier ways to go about it? Thanks in advance for your help.

I switched to AT&T to get the HTC One X, but I hated that phone (but it had a nice camera), so I got the AT&T Galaxy Note.
I unlocked my SGS4G so I could use it on AT&T to test radio changes, but also I noticed that I only got edge. If I go outside on a really sunny day sometimes I see it get hspa, but I don't think t-mobile phones can get 4G on AT&T's network.
I would expect at most getting edge. The ONE time I did see the phone go to hspa, I still didn't see xfer rates increase. It was slow as hell.
I think the answer is finding the right modem.bin. Our radio device is a little different then the other galaxy s phones, and most of the ones that use this same modem are on t-mobile. I'm hoping to find another phone that uses the same modem on at&t.

Actually, I was wrong. I was hitting the same stupid build prop thing where you're only on hspa if you're using data. If not it bumps you down to 3g.
AT&T works fine on this device.
AT&T on T-Mo Galaxy S 4G

Yeah, I just recently moved to AT&T bringing this phone. It shows a 3g status but seems to be as fast as it was on T-Mo but depending on the location. My wife has the same device on T-Mo and we drove from Chicago to Florida finding that usually one of us had a signal.
The visual voicemail isn't available from AT&T on this phone but the basic v/m works
I need help on unlocking my SGS4G for AT&T. Every time I try the app method, it either returns the code as "null" or has some busybox error. And the hexcode method doesn't work because mobile terminal can't find the file on my phone. I am running Beanstalk 4.4 ROM, and it is rooted. How can I unlock it?

Try going back to BML and unlocking there as the methods that you'll find on this forum are more reliable that way.
This is one of the free methods I have:

If you still can't get it to work, I do have a paid app on Google Play that can work for you:

It is on BML, I'll try those methods but if they don't work I'll probably have to flash back to stock, root, and then unlock it.

I've read countless posts on here saying that was just a kernel... Thanks for the correction
@champ1919 is correct, BML refers to stock touchwiz roms. I recommended that because although I don't own this phone anymore, I wrote the unlock script a while back and I know it works fine on stock roms if you install busybox from google play, after rooting the phone.
Once your phone is unlocked, any newer roms you install will keep the unlock and if you decide to go back to stock after THAT, your phone will still remain unlocked.

This seems like the most sure fire way of going about this, I haven't had time to do it yet but I think I'll go with stock then unlock.
Hey all, sorry for the noob question, I have always unlocked Motorola phones in the past, because at my work, ATT doesnt get signal (My provider), but when I unlocked my Motorola phones, then I would get great signal from T-Mobile, and Cell One.
Well now I got this HTC Inspire, rooted it with the Ace Hack Kit (S-off, and all that), got CM7 on it.
BUT at work, I scan for signal, and all it shows is AT&T (Which doesn't get barely any signal at work). So why doesn't it find T-Mobile or another provider which has signal there?
Also I noticed my dad's iPhone does the same thing, even though his is factory unlocked, it won't use any towers besides AT&T. That really sucks IMO, because I always unlocked them, to get my full potential siginal..
Anyways if anyone could answer this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I could stick in another sim to make sure it's unlocked, but I'd have to buy one on ebay, and then I read all over that the Ace kit unlocks it, so I'm like wtf..

Enter the correct apns for t mobile or flash a ROM that has T-Mobile carrier options.
As for the iPhone I couldn't tell ya

If you used Ace Hack Kit, then your phone is probably unlocked. Whose is your carrier?
For the iPhone, when you say factory unlocked, do you mean AT&T unlocked it. I don't know that any iPhones come unlocked from the factory. When AT&T unlocks a phone (or gives you an unlock code) I think it will only use a non-AT&T signal if AT&T isn't available, i.e. in another country.

Thanks all, and yes his iPhone is factory direct unlocked.. Bought straight from Apple.
Anyways, thanks. I will manually enter the T-Mobile APN and see what that does..
Does the myTouch 4G Slide need to be unlocked in order to use it on Simple Mobile?
I have Simple Mobile, and apparently any phone you choose to use for their service, must be unlocked.

The funny thing is, once my old MT4GS got bricked, I moved on to one that reads as Locked on the HBOOT as well as S-On just yesterday. But I'm getting service?

Being SIM unlocked is different than being OS unlocked. SIM unlocking is what allows you to use a non-TMobile SIM.
I'm sim locked and still work with simple mobile. As long as you have a t mobile phone, then you're good... they use t-mo's towers
