Auto Import facebook-contacts to WM6 - General Topics

By mistake I ahd already posted this in the Blackstone subforum, altough it is a general WM6 topic. Sorry - please answer here.
Hey guys,
I am using Touch HD with a stock ROM with the MS facebook application installed. In this I can see all my facebook friends and also their contact data, which they provide on FB (phone numbers i.e.).
Is there any application to auto-import the facebook contacts to WM6 Outlook, at least the ones that are not there already...
It would be so convenient and make my WM6 contacts complete.
Looking forward to any hints

SkyBook does that for you.
Have a look at this...
http://magnifoca.com/products.html

Thank you for your reply. However, to my understanding this application will only pull profile photos but no other contact information...
Pulling photos to my existing contacts is something i can already do with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.
I am interested in an application which will pull ALL information from FB (including photos, websites, and email) and enhance existing or create new contacts with it.

Yep, I know, and this application does that.
When I've used this before and asked it to sync my contacts, the first one it comes to that is not in my contact list, it asks if I want it to automatically create a contact for me.
I've never done it myself, as I don't want people off facebook in my contact list, but that's what it's for.
Cheers,
John.

skybook is a no go in the HTC snap with 6.5

Tried Skybook (latest, ver.1.4 Build 12281) on my Touch Pro, still cannot login despite following all the instruction. Ideas anyone? Thank you!

After struggling a lot with this application on my Touch HD, I decided to finally remove it. I get the well known and often reported login error.
I wonder:
Is it possible to install it in a vrtual windows mobile device on my PC and import my facebook to that? - THEN export the contacts to a custom location on my PC and import to my real Touch HD?
Ideas how to connect to the internet with the emulated WM6??

Afaik, there are several ways to do it.
Either you use Outlook to sync your contacts on your device, so you use Outsync to sync facebook to outlook, allthough I do not know what it syncs...
Or, you can export your facebook contacts list and add them into Windows Live. And then sync it to your device.

Using HTC Touch Pro I'm having issues too.
Trying to go to skybook.com gives me an error:
msxml3.dll error '80072efd'
A connection with the server could not be established
/includes/adtrack.asp, line 40
Can't login to the program after authorizing the app to pull data from facebook.
apps.facebook.com/snaptoface Doesn't load for me to re-authorize and FB doesn't show I have it as authorized... I'll have to check it out more but seems to me the snap2face/skybook website is having issues.

My phone = HTC wizard (WM5)
I sync with my university's Exchange 2003 server.
OK, the other day i took three pics (100-150KB each) with my phone camera. I tried to email them to one of my hotmail accounts. I did this by clicking on the pics (in the Pictures & Video folders) and selecting "Send". Then It asked me to select an account and i choose "outlook" which i assume is the email i sync with exchange because the only other option was MMS.
Then i clicked on send/recieve and it synchronised with exchange etc, but then it said Attention Required and the emails had not been sent. I tried this many times but could not get the emails to be sent. When i connected my phone to the computer and tried it thru my computers activesync, it still didnt send the emails, giving me support code 1 error.
That support code isnt even listed with the others here.
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/exchange_errors.php
i even tried changing my activesync settings to download full emails and full attachments (i.e. not only if attachment smaller than <insert number>KB.
in the end i gave up and deleted the emails. now when it connects with activesync i get no problems and no support code 1.
I am just wondering why it couldn't send a few simple emails with pics attached.
ALSO, since im making a thread anyway, my outlook.ost file is 0KB. Is that normal?
Similar problem with HTC Touch Diamond
Hello friends,
I am having similar problem with my Touch Diamond. A few of my contacts fail to synchronize. I get the error Support Code:1
Any help??
Have you tried duplicating this again at all? Like with just one pic.
Support Code 1
Hi people,
Hi had this ERROR when I was synchronizing all my stuff in my kaiser. I found the solution with my friend google and this forum:
Click Start > Run and type the following: Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\ole32.dll
Click OK, Reboot your PC. Sync again.
After reregistering ole32.dll, you should scan all items on your mobile device for unsynced annotations. If there are, CHANGE the item on the mobile device and sync. This is the only way to keep all your changes made and sync them to your desktop PC.
Some of the items where having issues and that was the origin of "the support Code 1"

Scan how, what do I do on the phone?
I'm getting a number of items that were recurring b'day entries
I found and deleted them on the PC, but I can't find them on the phone
to delete them. I'm still trying to setup the phone, so if needed, I can do a
cold reset. Alltel replaced a ppc6800 with the touch pro. *sigh* I miss
all the buttons. Anyway I do have good data in Outlook and a good PIMbackup
just before turning in the old phone. I tried the ole32.dll thing but no luck.
Can anyone suggest a button mapping program, the windows one only sees
the 'red' button as programmable? I'm also looking for a 'how-to' to use
SPB's P+ & Mobile shell instead of the touch3d thing. I have Resco Regedit

Activesync Support Code 1
I hope this is helpful to someone with Activesync problems.
I sync my AT&T Fuze with Outlook on my desktop using Activesync 4.5 on XP. Contacts, calendar, tasks, notes. My first sync just loaded up my Fuze from Outlook, based on existing data that was previously synced with 8525. Subsequent incremental syncs worked fine, until one day I started getting the infamous Support Code 1 along with a long list of Fuze updates that would not sync to Outlook. I was amazed at how little information there is on the web about these types of Activesync errors.
I finally figured it out. I had imported a new Outlook data file into Outlook, because I needed to convert it from Outlook format to Outlook Express format. After the conversion, I had left the second Outlook data file (mail, calendar, tasks) in Outlook, even though it was not being used. Apparently, the presence of this second Outlook data file was enough to confuse Activesync and prevent the syncing of new updates from my Fuze. After I deleted all traces of the data file from Outlook (and thus had only my single main data file), Activesync began working again, and the Support Code 1 did not occur. I realize that I am just describing symptoms, but since I can do what I need to do, I am not digging deeper. Perhaps there is a way to tell Activesync which Outlook data file to use, but I don't care.
change contact-pictures to 240x320 pixels
Make sure your contact-pictures do not exceed the 240x320 pixels format as larger pictures cannot be synced in outlook!

How do you scan for offending items on the phone? I have this same issue with 25 birthdays and anniversaries on my phone. They don't show up in the calendar on the phone or in Outlook 2007, though. How do I find them?

Did you ever get or find a answer to this question? I'm getting this error with a recurring task that occurred in the past. And the support code 1 indicates the item is on the phone. But I can't find a way to view old tasks on the phone at all. I go to the referenced year/month and it's simply not there.
I've wiped the device, but my situation is complicated by syncing with Win7 at home with no issues and win xp at work. Why mobile device under Win7 pushes old tasks you can't view on the phone is it's own issue.

Wow! Time flies, and it didn't take long for my reminder to reply to this to get buried WAY at the bottom of my Inbox. Sorry for the delay. The way that I solved this problem was through Outlook. I sync with Outlook, and I believe that I went in and deleted them from there. I believe that if you go into the Calendar in Outlook, and select "Events" for the current view, you may find some strange looking events. Mine were events that started out with a couple of blank spaces. I believe they were birthdays/anniversaries that didn't have any names in them, only spaces. At any rate, you should already have SOME indication as to the name of the events, and you should look for those and try to delete them.
I have since then flashed a couple of times, so I'm not sure if it got fixed by flashing or with the Outlook solution. Needless to say, I haven't had this problem since, so I suspect that it was a random problem that got fixed at least by reflashing. Sorry.

• Facebook Pictures to Overwrite Outlook Contact Pictures?

Hi All,
I know you can link a contact in your phone book to their corresponding Facebook profile and have the phone display the Facebook Profile picture as the Photo for the Contact – this is all well and good, however, when you sync your contacts with Outlook, the contact cards display the original or no photo.
Is it possible to have the up to date Facebook photo assigned to the contact photo permanently?
I know there was some free software which claimed to do this (I forget the name) – but it was very unstable and seemed to freeze/crash a lot, plus it wasn’t automated.
Can you one help? Or mod?
Thankies.
I'd love to know this too - I was wondering if it was possible, but didn't put too much thought into it.

Oh interesting I´m not the only one with this prob.
But my experience is, if facebook change first time the favpic and I change it following with my own pic (on phone) - facebook never replace it.
anybody affirm this?

anyone else able to help with this?
Another good function would be to be able to choose a picture for the contact you have from their facebook album rather than only being able to only have their currently profile picture.
Does anyone know how to do this yet??
spb mobile shell does this... But i've been looking for the equivalent as a free program...

facebook pics in outlook
I was messing with my outlook and HD2 recently and came across a method that let me save all my facebook pics to outlook from Hd2. Heres what i did....
i synced my phone with my PC and then unpluged it from the computer. i then backed up all my contacts and calender events using PIM back up (im sure you can use any other back up form) save that back up...
after i went to activesync and changed my settings to "Replace item on desktop" when there is a conflict. Deleted all my contacts in outlook and all my calendar events in outlook then synced once again and my phone cleared up as well then i unplugged my phone again and restored using the back up i made and synced all my contacts with thier facebook accounts(before syncing again) once the all had updated pics from facebook i synced with my PC (under the same settings...replace items on desktop) and done.
the contacts were back and calendar events were also back with facebook pics..
maybe some one can try it on thier end and see what happens but worked for me

well this doesn't really "overwrite" the outlook contact pictures with the facebook ones. The reason why it seem to work for you is because when you sync your phone with fb it creates a folder FBContacts under the /windows directory which stores your facebook avatars with the files named according to the fb contacts id. all activesync does is add your fb contacts id in the notes of the outlook contact and when this file exist in the /windows/fbcontacts folder it will display that instead of the pic in outlook. if you check the contact on your PC the pics are still the existing ones and not the fb ones.
so if you want your contacts to show the fb avatar just backup the /windows/fbcontacts folder.
at least this is what i found from my little investigation. if i'm wrong pls correct me.

The problem with this is it will update the pictures as a one time update. Every time the fb picture for the contact changes (and is reflected on the HD2) your outlook picture will not be updated

This does work and it is easy as per the native program however when the contact changes their FB pic, it updates again. So basically it keeps the latest change wether that is yourself with the Outlook pic or FB if your mate updates it.
As i have the best pic with Outlook id rather it permanently use that if selected but cant seem to find a way it can do this.

[Q] Backing up & Editing Contacts-Calendar-Tasks, etc

Have searched but had no luck finding an answer. Can anyone help please ?
I have a HTC HD2 & I use MyPhone regularly to backup/sync events, messages and contacts.
I prefer to enter new calendar events on MyPhone, as it's easier to type the details in, and I can enter them quite quickly.
But there is NOWHERE near the functionality on the MyPhone website, as there is in the calendar-function of the phone itself..... eg: I cannot set an event to be recurring, or a "remind-before" alarm, etc, etc, using the MyPhone service.
The same can be said for entering new contacts using MyPhone. There simply aren't as many fields for entering details on the website UI, as there is in the phone itself.
So it seems pointless to use it at all. I fully understand that MyPhone is a generic system for backing-up details, over a wide range of phones that use WinMo, and each specific phone may have different fields to populate inside their specific contact or calendar functions.
Previous (Non-WinMo) phones that I've had (Like Nokias or SE's) have had their own specific utilities available for entering information on the PC, then sync'ing to the phone - and these incorporated all available entry fields, so that nothing was missed.... but MyPhone seems VERY basic in comparison.
So is there any other FREE programs I can use instead, to FULLY enter details in Calendar & Contacts, to then sync with the HD2 ?
Or do I have to go thru the process of adding ALL my contact/calendar events via the phone itself, if I want to populate ALL the relevant fields available????
Please Note: I DO NOT use address books or email programs, such as Outlook, that I can set up to sync. I have Win7 on my home PC which does not have Outlook or O-Express. I DO use Thunderbird for email, but don't have an Address Book saved, as I rarely email people - usually text only !!!
Bumping up.... anyone ?
If i understand u right the task is simple: open a Microsoft Excel file or Open Office Org Calc Sheet.
In one sheet u put contact with the header row containing named fields you want to sync, and all the data on the following rows, than export that file (care to have only one sheet - usually default new files have 3 sheets, so delete the rest 2 blank sheets before u save the file.)
Save file as.csv (comma separated value not .xls nor .xlsx default type for Excel / .odc for OOO Calc).
On windows 7 got to Users --> Your user --> Contacts than Import --> choose CSV (first option on 1st window) --> choose yourfile.csv (yourfile = yourfile name saved earlier) and ok.
Than also in Contacts window choose Export --> vCards than type ok
Now all your contacts with their date are also on vCard format.
Select all vCards copy/save em on SD card of your phone. Than go to phone choose Contacts -> Import/Export --> Import from SD card than choose all.
Now all your contacts with all the fields are on phone contacts.
For calendar is a bit trickier but similar.
Hope it helps.
Thanks mate..... seems fiddly, but will give that a try.
I assumed that after WinPho being out for SOOOOO long, the user interface would be much better by now, instead of having to use all these work-arounds
Cheers again
I have to ask. Why AREN'T you using outlook (either express or the regular one)?
Besides that, you have to understand that MyPhone is treated differently than outlook. The purpose isn't to act as a phonebook or calendar but to provide backup.
You can pretty much use any type of sync you like (from any POP one to IMAP, WEB.. and so forth). You can open up a gmail account and sync it with your phone so that you can sync it easily (of course, it will also sync with your myphone in case it was configured which would then provide a secondary backup (other than google).
There are plenty of cals/phonebooks wandering around the net.

Running Win7 on home and office computers..... no Outlook, or Express, on Win7.
We also run the Open Office suite, instead of Microsoft stuff... and I'm not prepared to spend $100's buying Outlook just for this purpose.

That's true I guess.... Basically all I want is a program, similar to the "Suite" provided with my old Nokia's and SonyErricsons..... something you install on the computer, you can edit your contacts and calendar easily from the PC (easier and quicker to type) then sync it all to the fone. I don't understand why this isn't included as a "standard" application with Win6.5, or the HD2. I try to get by with MyPhone, but as you said, it's not it's primary purpose.

Any you can specifically recommend? I'd prefer something free, from OpenMarket, or Handango or such like, but haven't found any as yet. I'm NOT trying to be a cheapskate.... I just figure that if I've spent $1000 (close to it) on a "Smartphone", then it should have basic things like Contact & Calendar editor for the PC included as standard
to be honest, since google are doing such a good job, i'd create a gmail account and sync my contacts and calendar with it. I'm using Exchange at work... so i don't need it.. but if i didn't have it, i'd definately use google.
try to set it up. if you stumble into some problems, let me know.

[Q] WP7 Contacts

I finally got a Windows Phone 7.
However my first gripe was the fact that when you use your live ID, it automatically decides to import all your contacts from MSN etc which is kind of stupid. So I ended up fixing that by creating a new account just for my phone.
Microsoft really need to add an option there, Do not sync live contacts!
As I handle all this through my Exchange service. Only use my live account for MSN.
Anyway so I decided to link my facebook account to my phone. That went great right up until I saw it importing all my facebook contacts! So I finally found the setting to only sync with contacts in phone, so now it's linked my phone contacts to my facebook by only whats on my phone.
However this is where I have an issue. I go to type a text message or email and look for a contact and it's showing ALL my contacts from facebook, yet they don't show in the People Hub. I specifically have the setting "Only add facebook information to existing contacts" checked.
My next issue is the fact Birthdays from Exchange to the Phone are not syncing up correctly.
Some will sync up correctly and others will be out.
The information is there on the Exchange and correct, and same in my Outlook. But WP7 sometimes decides that a contacts birthday will be out by a day. So far one day ahead.
E.G
Contact 1 Birthday 16th July on exchange, shows up as 17th July
They are also not appearing in the calendar
I have checked and regional settings on phone and exchange are correct. It can't be the exchange as it was syncing fine with WM 6.1.
Help!!!!
actually the birthday issue has been there since wm6.5 for me and still a mystery to me hehe.

It automatically decides to import it because that was the way the phone was designed. To stay in sync with your Windows Live Hotmail, Contacts, Calendar, Xbox, Zune, etc. Certain things can be disabled for the most part, but the phone was designed to take these things from the cloud and put em on your phone. The phone was built for those who primarily use Windows Live and it's services. Just like how Android phones are built for those who use Google services.
As for your Facebook contacts, they will continue to display in your messaging/mail auto-complete regardless of the setting you choose in the People hub. That setting simply hides them from view in the People hub, it does not remove them from your phone. You can still do a People search and find Facebook contacts (and other services if you have them sync'd), and when you compose a new sms/email, you can still use auto-complete to find a Facebook contact. Just because you don't have them as a specific contact in your address book does not mean you will not contact them ever, and so the phone surfaces that information in the case you ever need to. You simply have to ignore the other contacts, and continue on your normal contacts.

That is really stupid. I choose to not show them for a reason as I don't want hundreds of contacts in my contacts list for messages and emails.
Does Mango solve this issue?
Also I'm guessing there's no way to choose what info gets imported for each contact, as some contacts on facebook input invalid phone numbers etc and well they are now clogging up my phone with useless info.
Kind of stupid to not have options to control what can and cant be linked and displayed!

Guess that all depends on how you look at it. I filter my People list to ones only in my Hotmail contacts, sync Facebook info with those only in my People list, and enjoy it when the messaging app allows me the flexibility to still contact those who have contact information but are not displayed in my People list. Again Windows Phone 7 is a socially connected phone designed to help keep you in contact with your Windows Live and Facebook contacts in addition to your regular phone book contacts (and just wait till Twitter and LinkedIn are finally available). So if you don't like that, then the phone is probably not for you.
Mango does not solve the "issue" since its by design, and therefore not an issue at all. I don't expect to it change anytime soon either since Facebook Chat is also integrated and the phone won't simply just exclude the people in Facebook Chat who don't exist on your phone, as that destroys the convenience of chat.
Just gonna be something you need to deal with I suppose, until the feature to further filter your contacts can be added.

Sync Outlook without cloud - some possible solutions?

Hi guys,
I might get a WP7 device soon, only thing that still really bugs me is the missing active sync connection that I oved over the years! I know I could use google or hotmail to sync my Outlook with a WP7 device but I refuse to give in on that one. So instead of argueing why I should or should not want that I'm gonna try to find some solutions. I am not afraid of some not-so-easy way if at least we find one.
The following ideas came to my mind:
1) making use of the pim.vol file in my current winMo Phone.
somehow copying/converting it to the WP7 and than using it. afterwards copying it back to WinMo and sync it with my PC. a bit messy, but how about this? Further info could be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072796
2) Host a (free) exchange server.
We all cann't afford MS Exchange for sure. but there's a open source alternative or two: http://oxpedia.org/index.php?title=Main_Page_CE#quickinstall
Even better would be to have it running on the same PC so a server of some kind is not required...
3) sending all contacts via mail to the phone and having a seperate emailadress where all outlook appointments are sent to seperatly as invitations. Not really syncing though...
4) Get someone to programm a solution...
Have I missed something? are there limitations I for some reaseons was no aware of?
Thnaks all!
Use the Outlook Connector with your Windows Live ID; when you add a contact in Outlook, copy & paste it into your Windows Live contacts (which appear right in your Outlook on your PC), and then when Outlook sends & receives, it uploads your changes in your contacts to your Windows Live account. As soon as your phone syncs your Windows Live account, the new contact will show up on your phone. I use this method and it literally takes less than a minute from when I add the contact in Outlook until it shows up on my HTC HD7s.

thanks for your replies! Unfortunately I'm still looking for some kind of solution so if anyone has a hint of some kind... keep 'em commin'
hi,
you can install zarafa ww w dot zarafa dot com (new user -> you have to fix the link). There's a community edition and an outlook connector which replaces an exchange server and is free for up to three users. I installed it yesterday and my omnia7 could sync the calendar. However, I don't have outlook and could not check if that works. I didn't try to send/receive mails because I already use a separate IMAP account.
Zarafa runs on linux, so you'd have to create a virtual machine or install it on a home/root server.
The manual explains the installation very well and ubuntu provides packages in its canoncial-partners repository. But if you don't have any linux knowledge that might not be the easiest project to begin with.
HTH
You HAVE to assign a live id account to a Windows Phone; that is the only way to use the marketplace, to add social integration etc. That said, you can add the live account to outlook, install outlook connector and your info (calendar, contacts) will be in constant sync. Its a better solution to synchronize than active sync was.
Why are you trying to complicate the process?
@ShakaMan: Thanks! As far as I understood this is basically a exchangeserver (which I could instal on my own PC / Webspace /server), right?
@TechJunkiesCA Jeah, I know that it's easy. I simply don't trust MS or Google to keep my data. I have no problem with said live account But I do not want to give all my caenders and details of my contacts (friends and family) to a company of any kind. Thats the point.

Yes, I DID read the first paragraph of the post. However, the words "without cloud" went right over my head without being noticed! Sorry for being so careless.

exactly. probably there's a better solution which doesn't need a virtual machine or server and can be run on windows.

well, when you have (many) contacts with private data (name, home/company address, birthday, ...) you should care what you "publish" about other people. I don't care if others put their own data on the web, but they shouldn't do that with the data of their contacts.
