I have a question about whether or not it is possible to use my roommate's windows vista laptop and activesync to install HardSPL to my Tilt 2 and then after to sync it with my snow leopard mac with missing sync and flash ROMs via the SDcard method?
Essentially my worry is whether or not setting the phone up and installing hardSPL on a windows computer will format the device for windows preventing it from being synced with my Mac.
An example of this would be an ipod/iphone, if you sync the device with one operating system, windows or osx, it needs to be reformatted to sync with the other system, thus erasing all the data on the device.
Follow up question: Would this reformatting, if it is indeed what occurs, get rid of the HardSPL installed on the device?
Thank you in advance for your responses, this board has answered many of my questions and i look forward to being an active memeber of the community!

I do all that with my Tilt , so there is no reason to believe that you will not be able to do that with the Tilt 2.
I sync all the time with Windows XP on the Windows side of my Intel iMac and also sync on the OSX side of my iMac with MissingSync. No data loss or reformatting issues ever.
I don't know if Missing sync is compatible with Snow Leopard yet, you may want to check.
.
thank you for your help! I'll check the compatiblitly of the program I decide to use for syncing on my mac. Do you use missingsync or do you have another program similar to it you could recommend?

Tilt to HTC rom upgrading with a mac. Is it possible? or do I really have to install boot-camp or use my vista gaming/video editing PC...? As i rather not install active sync and related junk on that PC...
Thanks in advance,

P.S.
Please don't start a PC vs Mac thing. I'm neutral and use both. Just my home is mostly mac's...
yes me too
wana know but with out the SD memory flashing
I have CID unlocked and then flashed Roms on my Macbook Pro, but I was running XP under VMware Fusion. So if you can't borrow a PC for 15 minutes, this is another option.

I can absolutely confirm that this works. I have a Macbook Pro 17" at home and this is precisely what I did to both sync my Tilt, load helmi's ROM, CID unlock it, etc.
The key thing to remember is that the virtual Windows XP machine must have focus when you plug your Tilt into the USB or it won't be detected. Other than that, it's a very slick system that works very well.
I have also done many upgrades on my Imac
Vmware Fusion - Windows XP
Has anyone tried this as a potential workaround? VirtualBox certainly lets your VM see and use USB devices from the host system, and it feels like an easier solution than the nasty-looking Vista workarounds thanks to Mobile Device Centre.
Thoughts?
I have no issues flashing my Tilt using WMDC on Vista Business. But I did use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 (freeware) running XP to flash my Wizard because the RUU flash utilities would run "strange" on Vista. Virtual PC allows direct USB access from disk images.
Haven't tried that. What problems are you having?
I have flashed two tilt phones multiple times using vista and have had no problems whatsoever. Sometimes I have to connect and reconnect it a couple times for it to sync properly, but that's a widespread problem I have seen.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding in that case - the only details I managed to find involved messing about with drivers to create some horrible cross-breed of Activesync and WMDC - somthing I can do, but would rather not.
This was all rather old information however, so is it possible to complete the whole flashing process (installing SPL etc) on a 'virgin' copy of Vista? If not, I think I'd probably prefer to try a VM given NotATreoFan's positive experiance with it.

The RUU ROM Update Utility used for flashing all Kaiser ROMs will run native in Vista without making any modifications to WMDC.
That being said, WMDC runs a subprocess that is used to sync with WM2003 and earlier devices, and on rare occasions (happened to me 1 time out of 100+ flashes), you may get a warning from Vista that the WM2003 service has stopped working. Do not worry, it will not affect your flash.
Vista Ultimate
Using vista ultimate I had to do the driver update which is really a painless process. After that it works perfect.
update driver
Just how do you update your driver.
Thanks

I followed this method.
i think with the latest wmdc you dont need to do that update driver thing. dont take my word for it though.
The driver hassle is 'old news' and no longer necessary with the latest wmdc. Just runs the ruu 'out of the box' nowadays.

I think that only works on Vista x86
Hello All,
I recently bought my first smartphone here in Beijing. It's a dopod D805; I hope to upload media to it from my Vista-loaded PC.
The problem is Vista doesn't seem to recognize the device. I downloaded Windows Mobile Center (sorry if I've got the name wrong) but it doesn't seem to do anything. The CD that came with the device doesn't work (it keeps telling me to install Flash 8.0, which seems to imply the software on the disc was designed for pre-Vista systems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The phone seems simply not to work on Vista. I am now dual-booting XP alongside Vista, and have had much more success using XP and Activesync.
A new newbie question:
I cannot copy files (music, PDFs) from my PC's HDD to the phone's drive. Each time I try I am told there is not enough free space on the drive. This is absurd, as there is nothing on the drive other than what came on it, and the files I'm trying to copy are quite small. What gives?

Welcome to the forum
Have a look in the Wiki here:

Hope it helps,
Thanks for the response.
I checked that page before posting, but it doesn't seem to have much beyond the specs for my model.
All I want to do is install Pleco, and upload some MP3s/PDFs. When I plug the device in, I get the "bing bong" sound, but no new HD appears in My Computer. Since I'm running Vista, I can't use the bundled Activesync software.
Help?
i dont know if this will help but i cant sync my phone with xp unless i set my firewall to allow all.
if you go to my computer and look at your drives, does it not show you phone there as F: or whatever?
Right, it doesn't show a new drive. Note that I'm running Vista, not XP. I'm in the process of getting a dual-boot setup going, but I'm not there yet. Very frustrating.

Hey guys.
How do I install 6.5 on my i780? Guide, anyone?
Few other questions:
-Is it stable enough to use?
-What will happens to my files and programmes?
-Is it fully supported by my phone?
Thanks
You can find how to flash on this forum in i780's threads, basically you need an xp pc, mirage, modem drivers and activesync.
-It's stable except for a mouse bug (when you move the cursor a little square appears on the screen)
-Flashing the device you'll lose everything (except for the files stored in the micosd card) but you can backup sms, calls, contacts etc (no files and no installed programs) with a software called pimbackup
-Yeah but it has the mouse bug (for me it's terrible, but maybe you can live with it)
Ah I see. I'll go look for the stuff and give it a try.
Also.. I heard something about bricking your device? Does this occur often?
Mouse bug shouldn't annoy me that much, since I use the D-pad function.
Thanks for the info
EDIT: I'm using Windows 7, but I can also switch to XP. I have the Activesync program for Windows 7, so would it work?
thanks too
The flashing program (mirage) only works under xp (there are some ways to use it on vista but i suggest you to use xp, i flash from a virtual machine under win7 x64 without problems).
Bricking the device is possible, someone bricked his device and some others people didn't. I hope you're not in the 1st group. This doesn't happens really often but the risk of bricking exists.
i m using samsung i750 How do I install 6.5 on my i750? Guide, anyone?
im facing the problem when i connect mobile via sync it shows error ''can not exute repllog.exe''plz help me.
thx.
Hi everyone! I recently switched from a Pre 2 to an HTC Trophy. I love WP7 but I have a few problems. Before I tell you about them I will tell you I have installed the Mango beta onto my device. (BTW I'm on Verizon) Now onto my issues.
* I am running Ubuntu. I have Zune installed in a Windows XP emulator. For some reason the entire computer (Ubuntu and Windows XP) don't recognize the phone when connected via USB. The device just charges.
* I am a big music buff and I NEED MUSIC ON MY DEVICE. As I have said, I run Ubuntu, how am I supposed to do this?
* I would love to use all those fun programs to edit the registry on the device to change the color schemes (because I hate the colors that come pre installed) but I run Ubuntu. I'm sure I could do it via emulator but how come my phone is not recognized?
* Please tell me why my phone isn't recognized.
Thankyou for all help in advance and I am really really really happy to be a part of this community. I used to be a member on XDA back in my Android days and I'm psyched to be back. Please help me with my problems

You could try to setup Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 in a virtual machine on your system. That should work.

Thanks for the reply, however, I already stated I'm running Windows XP in VirtualBox. When I run lsusb in Linux terminal one of the USB devices is Microsoft and when I unplug the device and run the command again it disappears. So it seems Ubuntu knows its there but since it has no mass storage capabilities it does not display it on the desktop. This still doesn't explain why Windows XP cannot see it because I have USB connections settings checked in VirtualBox.
I think it is a Windows XP problème... Windows 7 does a better job in recognizing devices.
XP is Just to old

You stated that you use an emulator. I really recommend using VM Ware. I never had any issues with USB devices or anything else on it. Since I never used VirtualBox I can't explicitly help you with it though, sorry.

Ok so now Windows XP sees the device as "Windows Phone 7" but Zune still won't detect it no matter what I do. Any ideas?

XP is going to continue to be a bad choice... What version of ZUNE are you running?
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
if you using Zune 4.7 try updating to Zune 4.8 and check if your mobile is getting detected.
