As the built in game pad for morphgear seems to be a little buggy when playing on my HD2 (and i am not the only one with the problem apparently) I thought I would develop my own game pad.
This game pad is a wvga game pad, which means that it is designed for use in landscape mode. the game pad is primarily made for the SNES part of morphgear, but I believe it should work with other parts with the same amount of - or less buttons than the SNES.
All you need is:
- Morphgear of course you can find a version especially for HD2 with enabled multitouch, right here, thanks to Blutz
- The SNES part of Morphgear, which is available for download right here, or any other part you might want
When you got all this, you are totally ready to go, so download the file at Rapidshare or at the bottom of this post And follow the instructions to install the game pad.
Instructions:
- First extract the rar file. When you have done that you will have 2 files. gamepad.txt and gamepad.bmp.
- Copy or cut these 2 files and place them in the following folder:
your HD2 --> storage card --> programs --> games --> MorphGear --> skins.
If that is where you have placed the MorphGear folder (I believe that's the standard location). If you placed it at a custom place, then I bet you know where you placed it, and then you should be able to figure it out
- Boot up MorphGear and then press the settings icon. Choose "SNES9x (SNES) if that is what you installed (if you installed something else then that is the one to choose). Go down to the bottom of all these settings. The last option should be called "Skin". Choose the skin called "wvga game pad" and press OK in the top right corner (this is primarily for the SNES part, I do not know how big a difference there is from one emulator to another).
- Now boot up a game and enjoy the show
- If you don't already have, you will need to set up MorphGear so that it plays the game in landscape. This is done by going to the settings icon --> Global settings --> Display --> Orientation, and change this to east or west depending on where you want your hardware buttons.
Other Info:
Mapped Buttons:
n, s, e, w, ne, nw, se, sw, a, b, x, y, select, start, (L1), (R1)
This is the first version, and unfortunately i haven't been able to get L1 and R1 to work. If anyone knows what the code for those are, I would be happy if you could just send me a pm
Versions with a nicer UI might show up in the future, but at the moment I do not see it as being important since you rarely see the game pad when playing. I don't at least
Update:
The L1 and R1 is now working correctly. The new version is attached in this post
Update:
A new gamepad supporting the genesis module is now up for download. The gamepad has all the keys of the genesis, and supports 8 moving directions, n,e,s,w,ne,se,nw,sw It is of course kept in the same beautiful design
Instructions for installing it is exactly the same as they are for the other game pad, except that you have to choose the generator module instead of the SNES9X in settings.
Update:
Yet another gamepad is now ready. Do you struggle with the original pad because you find it too small and crampy? Struggle no longer, as a new big version of the original is now ready for you to download The new gamepad is just around 100 pixel higher than the old, and therefore it allows a bigger navigation pad, and the a,b,x & y buttons have become bigger too. Head to the bottom of this post to find the file, and if you like the old pad better, then that is of course still available
the pad is now working too ^^
Update:
Does playing in landscape mode just suck compared to playing in portrait mode? Then why play in landscape mode? A new gamepad created for playing in portrait mode is now up and ready for you to download So head on down to the bottom of this post, and start playing the portrait way
Update:
Check out Hexjibbers new mod of my portrait SNES gamepad: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621371. It has the layout of the original SNES gamepad, so if you feel a little nostalgic, then head over to his thread and drop him a comment ^^
Update:
Oh my... An update? Yep its an update ^^ A NES gamepad has now been added to the collection, so if you are tired of those awesome graphics on the SNES, you can head back to NES, knowing that there is a multitouch supporting pad for exactly that purpose. Also there have been a little reorganising of the pads, so that i am able to stay at/under the 8 uploads i have to my use. Thats all for now and if you have any requests then throw 'em at me, and i will do my best ^_^ <-- reason for the quite lame smilies, is the fact that i have run out of real smilies to use... apparently you can only have 15 smilies in your post
Update:
I really wonder when this is going to stop... just as the thread seemed dead it was given some first aid, and suddenly it was alive again. Which is good, because that means that xavierdemon came up with a skin too ^^ So if you just happen to dig the design of the ps3 controller, then head to page 9 or follow this link. to download it... Actually he has come up with 2 skins, so if you like the NES too, then it is your lucky day ^^
Thanks to Blutz for the help I've got from him, and a big thanks to Dredd67, who uploaded a game pad for touch hd, which I could use to understand how it all works ^^
Excellent. Works Perfectly. Thanks.

great work! I was stuck in chrono trigger because multitouch wasn't working very good and I couldn't run (had to catch a mouse ). With this skin everything works great. (altough it is quite ugly )

I know its not a beautyqueen But if you play full screen then it doesn't really have to be, because you cant see it anyway Personally I just believe it should be a functional pad, and then beauty may come later
Thanks for this. Works perfectly.

Can you tell me which display options I should use to see the whole gamepad on my HD2 ?
I tried 150% but then the game screen is too small.
If I use "windows size" I don't see the pad anymore.
And if I try with "auto scale", my fingers come accross the game screen.
I've set orientation to "west" and unchecked "disable full screen"
Thank you

The only way to be able to see the whole pad is to make the game screen small enough to fit above the pad. personally I use the autoscale function, where you can see the sides of the pad, and then just guess when it comes to the middle. I tried to make this pad easy to use without it being visible, so that you are able to play in full screen or autoscale without having to struggle to find the buttons. Morphgear it self is the one who decides to hide the gamepad, and I can tell you that some people is looking for a way to get the gamepad on top, and add transparency.
Bug propably
Hey guys. I've propably found a little bug. The L and R buttons doesnt work. I've looken into the txt file and there are thu buttons named as l1 and r1. I renamed them to 1 and r as they i named in other pads and R button now works just fine. But the L button repeats the recently used button instead of its proper function. Could you please take a look at that, because except this one little issue is your pad the best i've ever used
Thanks a lot..

Hi xZdenis. I've always known about the L1 R1 bug, which i also said in the first post The reason is that i had no clue what they were supposed to be called. Now when i know what the 2 buttons are supposed to be called, i will fix it as soon as i get home, (or sometime like that) and then it should all work perfect
And thank you for the feedback
looking forward to the l/r button update!

as said in the other thread I'm not totally sure what I am doing "better" than the other guys. until I know this I am definately not going to touch other persons skins, and if I figure it out then I won't touch without an approval from the creator of the skin and then just publish it
i like your gamepad very much!
is there a possibility to make the buttons and the controls for the direction larger?
so that i don't accidently press beside a controlkey and get the error that if you click on non-control-space morphgear repeats the last keypress?

Yes ball is in upper left corner. You can also dont move both players at same time.
Would be great when this game works =) Its at the moment beta.
The two player have to put at the SAME time their finger on the screen

i have the same problem
I just read the french forum and it's a known bug.
The developpers is working on it.
See you
If anyone here is registered on that forum maybe he can let them know about this thread so that the developer can keep an eye on this English thread as well.
can anyone reup the game pls?
The link in the forum is down!
HD2 cant handle simultanious touch as two inputs in the same horizontal or vertical line or if they are close to each other clings to the vertical line or horizontal line. Its really crappy. Multitouch game not a good idea in HD2. Synaptics clearpad 1000 has DUALTOUCH. NO Multitouch. Same problem as Nexus One.
Recently the n64 andoid emu got pulled from the android market. And from what I know that version didn't support the analog input and could only be played with the d-pad and buttons. This was said in a dutch preview serie.
Does anyone know if there is a version that allows to use the analog controlls?
having been going through many games and apps and haven't found the d-pad and analog to be supported well.... something that definitely needs to be addressed by SE
SE can't do much about it, it's in the hands of the devs. Emu's probably have button mapping options you can use.
It's nothing to do with SE, it's up to the devs whether they want to use the API to update their applications to support the dual touch pads.
I guess it's only a matter of time.
I'm sure there will be several emerging developers for the XP. Even so, its an opportunity for already existing developers to rerelease their software at a premium for analog support.

Good god I hope not. Thats an awful idea. Everyone else gets to use the free emulators and XP users can't make use of their hardware unless they pay for the app?
I dont have one yet so I dont know, but can the touchpads be used as an input method? Then there is hope for analog support. Maybe with a special IME or something.
Its pretty easy for a developer to optimize their games...
URL blogs.sonyericsson.com /developerworld/ 2011/02/28/ xperiaplaytipsbyangrymobgames/
well until there analog support, can anyone suggest keymaping? I tried different settings but I cannot seem to find teh best mapping!
I guess it depends on the game. For sm64 I used this:
D-pad for walking
X for A
O for B
Square for C-left
L for Z
R for R
Search key for C-up (not sure if I did this, n64oid got wiped when unlocking bootloader)
The A, B and Z buttons are needed for the gameplay itself so I put them close at hand, with the Z button at the place of L you use the same finger as on the n64.
C left and right make the camera turn so should be close at hand in sm64. C-up gives fps view to look up and stuff, c-down sets zoom level (and isn't really needed anywhere in the game imo) and R sets the camera behind mario or back with the lackitu vamera man.
This worked well enough to finish sm64 in 1 night with all 120 stars.
But as you can see it could differ if you have an other personal preference or another game.
Wow, thanks! That remap actually makes this game playable.
I've played around with it a little and I think I found an alternate configuration that people may enjoy:
D-pad for Analog
Cross for A
Square for B
L Trigger for C-Left
R Trigger for C-Right
Circle for Z trigger
SELECT for C-Up
START for START
Triangle for R trigger
As you said, the C-Left and C-Right are needed for camera control, so the triggers seemed to be the most natural placement. I felt like I would be zooming the camera in and out more often than toggling first-person perspective, so I chose to map Triangle for R trigger and SELECT for C-Up.
Admittedly, I haven't played through it yet, but just playing around in the opening courtyard with this configuration makes me believe I could play through this game all over again with ease.
Perhaps we could start a thread for ideal key mappings for each game? I'm going to take a look at Goldeneye when I get a chance and post my recommendation.
For N64 games, I use N64oid.
Map both analog and D pad to XP D-pad.
A mapped to Cross
B mapped to Square
R mapped to Right Trigger
L and Z mapped to Left Trigger
C-Left mapped to triangle
C-Down Mapped to circle
And then I have on-screen C-buttons only, by hiding all but the C buttons in the on screen controls options.
N64oid can be found at SlideME, for free, and they have an app store for android.

I just tried this control scheme and it works surprisingly well on a bunch of games. I was a little concerned about mapping both the analog stick and the d-pad to the Play's d-pad, and mapping L and Z to the left trigger, but it works really well. Having the c buttons on-screen really isn't that obtrusive, either.
Thanks for the tip

I think my config is really really good. For Zelda it's great!!
Movment - D-pad of course
C-up -> Search key (only use for Navi and look around in FP)
C-Right -> Circle button (use like bow or hook shot for this one)
C-Down -> Select button (use for stuff i barley use like the ocarina or bottles)
C-Left -> Triangle button (use like bow or hook shot for this one)
A -> X button
B -> Squere button
Start - Start
R -> R trigger button
z -> L trigger button (left finger on the Z button just like the real N64 game)
No one screen buttons needed
Try it, i promise you that it works perfect in almost every game!!
n64oid
the n64oid is going to have analog support soon when the software update for xperia comes out

I thought I would make a thread for the touch profiles becuase they're pretty cool! I tried making one for Dungeon Defenders but I can't get the joystick to work! In the GTA 3 thread someone put up one for that game that works perfectly! Anybody else have profiles for games yet?
Sent from my Transformer
for dungeon defenders did you turn on relative touch for the joysticks? You have to double tap the button and choose button properties. Otherwise all it does is emulate a tap on one of the 4 sides of the joystick "ring". With relative touch on you get a lot finer control. Give me a bit and I may be able to throw together a few touch profiles for Dungeon Defenders and Shadowgun. I haven't reinstalled them since setting up my dual-boot so I need to download their sdcard data.
EDIT: Scratch that, no relative touch on Dungeon Defenders. It works better without it in this instance. I'm working on the mappings right now.
EDIT 2: Heres the Dungeon Defenders profile. I tried to map as much as I could, but it really is a game designed with the touchscreen in mind, so full functionality is impossible. What I do have will get you by 90% of the time with the controller only. I also put together a profile for Lego Batman on OnLive. The control setup will work for other games too, just not 100%. As usual make sure to rename the file to .map and put it in /sdcard/data/com.dancingpixelstudios.sixaxiscontroller/ or go to Edit Touch Profiles-->Open Menu-->Load Profile-->Import then choose your file from its downloaded location.
Dungeon Defenders Controls
Left Analog: Movement
Select: Open/Close Map
Start: Pause (need to hit Resume to unpause)
PS Home: Activate Crystal
Right Analog: Free Look/Choose Defense Location
Square: Shield/Cancel Defense Placement
Circle: Attack/Place Defense
Triangle: Place Waypoint
L1: Defense Menu
R1: Hero Menu
Directional Pad Up: Defense/Hero List 1
Directional Pad Right: Defense/Hero List 2
Directional Pad Down: Defense/Hero List 3
Directional Pad Left: Defense/Hero List 4
R2: Defense/Hero List 5

Yes it is possible, I have thread on this in this section (TITLE: Modern combat 3 sixaxis). Im actually playing modern combat 3 right now with it. EPIC GAME!
Hello guys ive started this thread in the main android forum for more exposures. That way people with different device but same resolution can also use our touch profiles. I've shared my touch profiles in post #3
Hi everyone. I purchased the game Reckless Racing2(fun and great game!!) for my Transformer tablet. Anyway, I made up a touch profile for the game, but I had one thing that I wish I could change, if possible. When I come to a point in the game when I had to chose from a menu, I would like to scroll through using the up,down, left, right and then hit start to pick which option that I want, rather than having to assign a button to that option. For example, in my RR2, I have L1-L2_R1-R2 set to chose which option I want. But is there a set up where I can use the DPad to highlight these options? Thanks in advance.
I can only seem to get touch profiles working when I pair before docking. If I pair while docked the analog stick just controls the mouse...
I did up a quick map for death worm, just rename it to .map
Analog left movement
x and square are nitro/ fireball
select is upgrade
start is pause
when on the upgrade sceen,L1/R1 are the left and right choice.

I have had the same problem with the profiles loading when docked first. It must have something to do with having the physical keyboard activated in the IME prior to changing the input method. Either way good job.

Hi people.
This is my gift for Galaxy Note users.
It is a puzzle game named "Griddlers".
The puzzle is generated randomly, but it is still fun to solve it,even tough the final isn't a beautiful image.
I know, that the graphics is not beautiful, but this is a puzzle,so please forgive me for that.
Before you start, you have to calibrate the stylus by tapping the upper left cross section.
So try it out if you want and let me know your opinions.
Thank you.

Very cool. Simple but challenging.
I noticed that the back button does not let you exit and there seems to be no way to quit other than the home button which keeps the app running in the background.
Fun, though. Keeping this on the phone for sure.
EDIT: You should come share this over in the AT&T Galaxy Note forum, too.
Well,I know, that the Back button doesn't exit. Simple reason: I hit it accidentially very often, therefore I disabled that. I can add some dialog box to exit.
