Hello,
I installed WM 6.5 SDK. In emulator it looks good, but i don't want to install 6.5 on my phone, because some people done it have trouble with some programs (e.g. Opera Mobile 9.7). But it's possible to extract all the Chome files and registry values. Using RomExtractor by GreateVK I got Today DLL, mui, and using Total Commander registry values from HKLM/Software/Microsoft/CHome/ and HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Today/Items/Windows Default. Will it work on WM 6.1, and is it possible to port so that work? Copying files and adding registry keys do not take effect. System core version in 6.1 and 6.5 is 5.2. Are there some big core/system differences, not UI differences?
Thank you)
Did you get all registry trees?
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\"Windows Default"
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\CHome
HKLM\Security\CHome
Which DLLs and such files did you extract?
yes, security.... i'll try... files? chome.dll, chomeres.dll, chomeres.dll.mui, chomewmpplugin.dll
cmhome.dll is also linking XmlLite.dll, which is not existing on WM 6
I forgot to mention, of course you also need the Titanium*.cpr files.... And all PNG files which are used as icons in the Titanium panels.

I've been using Jwright's WM6 ROMs and they're terrific. I'd become accustomed to using true VGA in WM5, and while IE offers VGA, it's nothing compared to having the entire system run in 640x480 (96dpi) everywhere.
Has anyone enabled this? I did the registry change, but I don't have WM6 dll's put in for the 96 dpi (using the WM5 dlls would defeat the purpose of using WM6, right?).
If anyone is doing this, lets get some information going on it. If nobody is doing VGA, when do we think we can do this? Or how might I go about helping to make it a reality?
I used ozVGA with WM5 dlls, works fine.
The only purpose of 69-dpi dlls is icons, i suppose...
Is that a possibility? Can the WM5 dlls really be used as replacements here? Or is that like upgrading and then removing 1/2 of the new features?
Are there functional bits in these replaced dlls? Or are they truly icons only?
there is a package i made on the ftp that is allmost complete vga for wm6, it uses wm6 versions from qvga devices
Outstanding! Got a link or filename/path?
Here
Hope it works for you
Would be nice to skip the ozVGA necessity - I like to just have the dlls and set the registry myself... But at least now I've got it. Life is good.
Sweet
I tried these files and they are sweet, thanks
i just used d WM5 dll's & ozVGA. true VGA works as good as when i was on WM5.
nevertheless, i still downloaded Midget's cab file.
hi Midget. tnx 4 that. no need anymore 4 ozVGA w/ that cab file?
Nervous n00b Help?

My mobile T-mobile AMEO 5 inch screen is wasted without VGA which I had on my Dell Axim x51v. I had previously used www.nyditot.comvirtual Virtual Display with great success in Windows mobile 5 but they are not returning my e-mail about Windows mobile 6 support hence the reason of this question.
What are the benefits of using your cab is there a lower overhead etc than the full blown softwares like MvRTrueVGA or Virtual Display? Is there any risks running VGA apps on PDA’s OS’s?
Any thoughts appreciated

Real VGA by Tobias is better. You should try it. It comes with 96dpi and 128 dpi.
I used WinCE Cabs to open cabs (older ones still possible) and some of the new cabs that have come about it says is not a valid CE Cab file....
Any ideas what software I can use to open them?
anyone knows?
hey everyone
first of all i would like to congratulate Dr. Martin Gonzo for his amazing ROM.
now, since i've seen that many people have already tried and are currently using his rom, you definitely have some of your other apps instaled
what i would like to know is:
wich apps do you think work best with the Windows Mobile 6.1 version
or that you find them practical or indespensable
if you can, put a thumbnail of you 6.1 screen
would like to see come cool backgrounds with the 6.1
please share the links if possible
cheers everyone
there is a best apps thread here for wm6.0.
i guess it should be pretty much the same applications for wm6.1 also.
Check out the CHome Configurator. It'll let you customize your sliding panel home screen easily. Here's the link to the excalibur thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393104
Total Commander, Its got to be the best Freeware File Manager for Windows Mobile. It allows you to work with files in ROM unlike File Explorer, allows you to edit the registry and even has an ftp client built in.

Anyone?
I downloaded the Kilmist Reg Editor 2.5 - double-clicked the .exe and found the 'program' under Program Files > Kilmist Registry Editor 2.5.
However, inside the folder are the following files:
-- Default.ico
-- ini468.tmp
-- Registry Editor.PPC300_2577.cab
-- Registry Editor.PPC300_4000.cab
-- Registry Editor.PPC300_10003.cab
Which .cab should I drag onto my Touch Pro and install? Or is it all three in a certain order?
Thanks for the help!
Lisa
bump to assist.
Just in case this ever comes up again:
2577 is the code for strongarm processors
4000 is the code for mips processors
10003 is the code, I think, for sh3 processors
I just bought a Windows CE 6.0 device called the A81 MID that has the following specs
7 inch 800x480 lcd screen
Arm Cortex A8 600mhz
256mb ram
WinCE 6.0
I bought this thinking since i can use alot of wince apps on WM phones it would work the other way around too
Im trying to install Skyfire and Opera on the device because IE sucks on this device.
Every time I try to install a .cab ile I get the error "not a valid windows ce setup file"
Whats strange is that a lot of programs i have that is designed to run on WinCE won't open on 6.0 either
one example was FinalBurn CE .14, nothing happens when i open the .exe
Even the classic CAB installer to manage cabs from self destructing when installing fails to open and gives me the error "not a valid windows CE application"
Is this problem unique to this device or to WinCE 6.0?
The CAB files include some information saying on which platform and/or version of the OS it can be installed. IMO this is the only issue that prevents the application to be installed on your notebook, and this will also result in the error message you wrote. It's the same message that appears for instance when you try to install an application that requires WM 6 on a PPC 2003 device.
Since WM is based on Windows CE it's usually no problem running WM applications on Windows CE, unless you don't access any telephony APIs or any other similar stuff explicitly available only on the WM platforms.
So you can just go ahead and extract the files and registry settings from the CAB and install them manually, or re-create the CAB with different version requirements. If it doesn't work then I dare to say it's 100% the reason that some special WM APIs are used.
I managed to run some WM application on a Windows CE emulator. They are actually working fine, though the GUI doesn't look very good because they are optimized for Mobile phone screens and not adapted to the Windows CE "Desktop" OS.
I also have a Windows CE notebook and I'm planing on porting Nitrogen to it. If I have the time. Some day. Eventually. Yes.
Edit: problem of some WinCE applications not running on your machine might be that they are designed for WinCE 5. WinCE 6 has a re-designed kernel and some APIs are obsolete.... It's the same problem that will happen when we'll be switching from WM 6 to WM 7.
any ideas on how i can extract the registry and files? ive tried a couple of cab extractor and they all end up giving files with weird names and extensions such as skyfir34580.001 and other rubbish like that. Winrar gives me even worst filenames. is there any kind of tutorial you can point me too? i have no programing skills so porting would be way over my head.
have you had anyluck installing skyfire 1.5 or opera 10 on a wince device? also have you ever gotten finalburn to run on your wince devices?

thx for the explication RAMMANN --
i plan to buy a windows ce '7" mini netbook' and i want to use all WM6/6 progs from PPC (if hardware supports it, of course)
