Setting up MS. my phone service. - General Questions and Answers

Guys I need some help with setting up MY Phone- online data backup service.
At the moment all the different file types from my mem. card are being backed up like cab, zip, txt files etc.Is there a way to set the service to backup only certain file types like for example only .doc or even better to assign only one folder to be backed up?
On my storage card I have a folder full of cabs it's almost 200mb and I don't really need an online backup of those files in my "my phone" account, any way to exclude certain files from being backed up?

microsoft exchange syncing and storing emails on SD card hack problem?

hello... i posted this on other boards but was suggested that i post here so hopefully i'll get some responses here:
i recently got a treo 750 for my boss and have it syncing with our exchange server. thats fine, everything syncs. problem is, my boss has 10,000+ email messages that i know he's going to want all on the treo. along with its megabytes and megabytes of attachments. i've read where there's a registry hack to move the inbox location from the internal memory out to the storage card. (AttachPath, and PropertyPath)
i successfully did it on my hp ipaq hw6945. but on the treo 750, it keeps renaming my storage card to storage card2, and then creating a folder called storage card which i assume is still on the internal memory. i read somewhere that the reason for that is because the messaging today plugin runs first before it recognizes that there is a storage card. so when the storage card is finally recognized and there is already a folder called storage card, it renames to storage card2. the suggestion was to disable the messaging today plugin. i did that. still renames my storage card. i then disabled all my today plugins, soft reset, and it still renames my storage card! this is getting frustrating. is it something about the treo 750 that the registry hack won't work? has anyone with a treo 750 successfully changed their inbox location from the \windows\messaging folder to their storage card?
anyone????
I posted a response to a similar question on the Treocentral forum. Basically, you'd probably need to wait for Windows Mobile 6 (if there is an upgrade for existing Treo 750 users). There is a video demo out there about this functionality, but basically WM 6 allows you to carry the last couple days or weeks worth of email. The rest is stored on your Exchange server. When you need something (email, attachments, etc), you can perform a search wherever you have network connection, and your Treo will search for that information on your Exchange server at work. This way, you can download all that you need, whenever and wherever you have a connection.
SD Card Storing Emails
I have the same problem; here is a workaround - not pretty but it's fast and works
1. before reset; use wireless manager to shut off phone
2. take out sd card (i don't really take it out; just let it snap out partway so it's no longer recognized
3. reboot
4. use file explorer to delete newly created (empty and actually on phone not SD card) folder "StorageCard2
5. put your sd card back in and it's properly recognized as StorageCard2
6. use wireless manager to turn phone back on
you can skip turning phone on/off but have to be quick with file explorer to delete the newly created StorageCard2 folder or, if activesync starts right away, you might get some email stored on this folder that you loose when you delete it.
My understanding is that, when WM boots, the registry entry is looking for StorageCard2 before the drivers to find the card are loaded so it creates the folder in RAM. I'm not aware of any permanent fix other that the above workaround with each reset. Fortunately, don't reset that often so this isn't a big issue
Just a quick comment, guys.
As far as I know the only registry setting causing mentioned issue is PropertyPath. AttachPath works fine (at least for me and my Treo 750).
Email & Storage Card 2 !
I posted this at treocetral, hope it helps.
Email & Storage Card 2 !
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK here goes,
For anyone with lots of emails and attachments this is relevent. I have been trying for 3 days to work out storing the email, email attachments and internet explorer temopory files on the mini sd card. As most who try this know that windows does not play well and continues to create a new folder called storage card and displaced the actual storage card as storage card 2.
This creates many problems. Any installed program will not work from the icon or shortcut as it points to the wrong place and the files intended to now be stored on the storage card are actually on a folder called storage card in the device root (not saving the intended space). In addition the new folder is locked by processes like active sync, ie, or the today screen messaging plug-in. Very problematic. There are lots of discussion about solutions from disabling the plug-in and manually hacking the registry. I have tried smart phone tweaker, tweaker 2k and direct registry edits. All of which do not help.
The final solution I have discovered is as follows.
01. Place the internet explorer temp files back on the device in the windows folder. This seems to be the biggest problem that locks the files. I do not do so much browsing that these files arevery big or add up quickly.
02. Placed the emails back on the device in the windows sub-folder. As these are text and not html they do not take up much room.
03. Now for the attachments. Mine are 37 MB! This is the meat of the problem. I went into the registry and only changed the AttachPath to the storage card and it worked. This saves me 37 MB on the device and does not yet force the new storage card/storage card2 problem.
I have not included all the registry keys and paths as a quick Google search will bring them up.
I just though people should know. What a pain in the rear, but now it is better.

The reason why you are having the problem is because you chose the option to store the messages on your memorycard while the memory card was not inserted in the device. It went looking for "storage card" and couldn't find it, so the OS naturally creaded the directory so the e-mail could function. Afterwards when you did insert the memory card, the file system naturally named it "storage card2" because it loads it as a virtual folder and "storage card" was already taken. If you delete "storage card" which is located on the device, your memory card will automatically change it's name from "storage card2" to "storage card". That's a quick fix. The only problem you may run into would be if you have programs installed to the memory card. Those programs will look for files on the card assuming it's still "storage card2". I ran into the same issue, deleted the "storage card" folder and fixed my e-mail issue. But right after I had to hard reset to reinstall all my programs on the card to get them working again. Have fun...

[GUIDE] Guide to the understanding of internal memory

Hi all, is a long time that I was determined to make this guide, which talks a little bit of memory and a backup, but not in the traditional way, there are many guides who speak backup and restore on the forum, this guide aims to clarity on what is davero save and restore on Android, and quite often emerging from years of windows, to many it is not clear the system, which is both simple and ingenious.
In fact few people know that if a system Android is configured correctly, we could bring the system exactly as we had no need for any backup, or rather save only minimal data.
In fact, Android is designed precisely so that in case of hard reset is possible to recover most of our data assolutament without saving anything.
How can you say? A little cloud, and thanks to google, thanks to some extraordinary system that we have at hand.
It is to make an introduction, some phones like the nexus s, the dual optimus, the galaxy's have a partition of internal memory which is viewed a bit like the SD of the other external phones, as a general rule that says of this guide is also valid for them, but keep in mind that the external removable SD, where present (in no nexus) is used only for photo papers and films, while the rest is used for internal storage.
We must first begin to understand WHAT and WHERE you install to get through to understand OCSA we can restore and what may be unnecessary or less important to be clear I AM NOT SAYING THAT I DO NOT GO BACK FACTS, a spare copy of every thing is fine it, but is often used even when not needed and when and how best to act otherwise.
We begin to see what and where you save files on Android:
THE SYSTEM
And 'the directory / system of our phone and also has a dedicated partition in the internal memory that contains all the firmware "base" includes all pre-installed applications, widgets, etc. keyboards.
We can find it in / system / app
\
THE APK
They are the real applications, we download and install an application in the market is. Apk
These are saved in order to function in a precise post system and is usually the directory / data / app on your phone
THE DATA AND THE CACHE OF APK
It 's the hardest thing to understand, an application, and is used when the install saves a certain amount of data that can be variable depending on the application itself (from a few kb to a few megs), many applications do not even have to save data, but others do and are represented by such preferences that we ourselves, as if spuntiamo an option rather than another, or choosing a layout type rather than another if the applicazionelo allows, or if the level of bailouts it is a game, in short everything you need to find an application as we have decided to appear and then leave the options configured to our liking so.
These data are stored by the applications to be found in / data / data is saved for every apk a special folder with the data reported in the application itself.
The caches are special types of files used temporarily or often (usually a few kb), which serve to ensure that the application can draw from in order to make things faster, or temporary files that are dynamically replaced.
We can easily delete data and cache any application, they will be recreated as soon as we open the application itself, of course, the application will restart with the default options, and if it is a play off-line again from the first level and so on.
ADDITIONAL DATA (also called extra cache)
Some applications, especially games or navigation systems require a lot of data to work and would occupy much memory required for this and once opened the same applicazzione to download them from the network and in some cases is asked whether to save them on SD or reminiscent internal, usually because the internal memory is precious, they end up on SD if there is no choice in the application.
These data are usually very full-bodied and are also represented by hundreds of MB and then creates a folder easily recognizable on our external SD card (in the case of phones with internal SD is also used for internal storage SD).
For example, games of GLU create a folder named our Glu SD, and a subfolder with the name of the game and so on.
Other lighter applications such as applications that have widgets that give the possibility to download wallpaper or weather, etc., going to save this data in the default folder Sd / Android / data / nomedell 'application, including maps of maps end up here , and all additional data from applications that do not create specific folders on the SD
Some system folders on the SD are dedicated or created by applications to files that we download on the network, or via bluetooth etc..
For example, the browser downloads its files usually in the / downloads available on the SD filoe we download via tapatalk go tapatalk download folder etc..
It's pretty easy to understand and see if an application has created a folder on our SD (internal phones that have internal storage) and figure out what application it is.
PHOTO AND VIDEO DOCUMENTS
These vendgono all usually stored on external SD (on all phones that have), and then will abbastqnz easy to find a manager with the folder where files are usually saved We take the pictures with the camera is the DCIM folder where classical inside will also find all the photos and video that we made.
The documents that we save where we can save more than we like and we should
CONTACTS AND CALENDAR
We have different sections of an Android phone, at least 3 as we have different agendas and calendars (also install applications via the market)
See you in detail what is best to use and how best to handle this very important aspect
the manufacturer of the phone book
The book google
the rubric of sim
calendar and google calendar
Any calendars or calendar entries installed by the market
we can use them all at once or one by one or only one of them depending on how we organize ourselves, usually the rubrics of the managers are not synchronized on a bilateral basis, but only through software provided by the manager himself, so for the calendar, then a Android phone is very practical and comfortable to use google's address book and calendar to google, it also allows us to merge contacts with our friends on facebook twitter etc..
In any case, when we save a contact address book on gmail, it will immediately be synchronized via internet and then we could do with a PC to organize as best we believe our contact, just go into google contacts with our account and do all the goole changes we want.
We can synchronize a directory with security provided by the program manager, who usually also allows synchronization of photos and documents.
Thanks to the synchronization, we can safely delete contacts of SIM if we are double, so as to make it easier to visulizzazione of contacts and that will not recur in the book as a text message or MMS cinviamo
Even the calendar is the same thing, we can synchronize the calendar with a google account and any other event that we mark will be synchronized on the network.
For photos and documents google video offers everything there is to offer as our movies youtube, picasa for photos and
documents for documents.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS A HARD RESET OR IF YOU CHANGE ROM
Sometimes we have to do a hard reset, or simply want to change ROM, when we do this we delete EVERYTHING THAT'S 'ON THE PHONE.
In the case of hard reset will erase all data downloaded applications and cache LESS DATA ON SD that is not touched and is not necessary to do so (in the folder Android patre secure).
When cambaimo ROM is also overwritten the system.
WHAT 'WHAT AND NO NEED TO RESTORE
We finally got to the point, but without these explanations is impossible to understand what really, it's time to save, restore, when and how.
So we come to the point.
all we have synchronized the phone with google we find in our account as soon forgive and sincronizziamo google account
So our contacts are safe and reappear as soon forgive our google account.
So even if we happen synchronized photos or documents, our photos are on picasa web albums and we can see them on goole + documents of our documents and just put the application or any application that we use to synchronize documents.
The apk should almost always always put them back from the shop, just have AppBrain to get a list of applications that you had.
E 'be noted that on some phones, notably HTC phones and those with CyanogenMod also held official record of applications that we had on the phone, so if you own a HTC, when we finish the wizard and put the google account PROCEDURE TO TOUR the market automatically restores all applications that we had.
This only works if you configure automatic rièristino phones and our account teamite start the wizard, is the sense of HTC, both on cm7 Rom.
If you do not have an HTC phone call or not cm7 may be easier to track the applications you were using AppBrain is using the web market puts everything back in 5 minutes.
If you do not format the SD it has all the data we had previously, and then also our photos of the documents and additional applications, if you must format it just a copy paste to put everything easily.
WHAT REALLY NEED TO RESTORE WITH BACKUP?
Contacts: no use because they are synchronized by many
Photos and video documents: safe on the SD but you can also synchronize them with special programs or directly with google
The APK: all are small and wireless, with the web market is fast putting them back
Additional data: they are safely stored on SD and on some phones are restored by themselves (HTC, Cm7)
Application data: for maggtior part not because it is unimportant configurations, the limit if you play a game off line as angry birds to not lose any past levels
Email: do not serve because they are safe on our account
MMS or SMS: If yes but only if they are important, and if you still saved on the sim are safe, however if you want you can use tiuanium
As you can see Android is structured so that even if we lose everything, a huge part of what is lost can be recovered facilemte and therefore no need to do regular backups or restore colossal, just restore the minimum for the system EXACTLY as before.
Android gives each type of data a precise place to stay in your system if you just want to save only the data of insertions apply only to save the corresponding folder that is located in / data / data and overwrite it with root permissions or replace it.
The same is true for all other things.

[Q] Dropbox - Change location of default file location

Hi All,
I use dropbox a lot and I make many files "favourite" meaning they will be saved offline on my device. However soon I will be running out of space on my internal memory, and I was wondering is it possible to change the default path where these offline files are stored. i would like to move the default path to my external SD card which is 64GB and has enough space to store the offline files. Dropbox has no setting to change the path where the files are stored.
Are the any settings or apps which can change the path where the offline files are stored.
Any advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks in advance.

I use an app called "FolderSync"(paid). It can be set to automatically sync folders from several cloud storage sites to a local folder that can place on the ext. card. You can even set each individual folder to be either one way or two way sync. I use it with Dropbox, box.net, google drive, and skydrive.
I think with the free version it does not give the option for immediate sync when changes are made. I think it only has manual and scheduled sync available. I forgot if the free version has two way sync.

Other options are using FOLDERMOUNT to link external dir to internal dir.
Or you can also use ext2int script to mount ext sdcard as internal and internal sdcard as external.

Cloud storage questions

1) Is it possible to instantly save to cloud storage like dropbox without saving to the phone first? For example if I take an image or video, it is instantly saved inside dropbox instead of my phone memory.
2) Is it possible to set cloud storage to sync files immediately when I save a file in my phone memory/sd card? For example when I take a picture, it is save to my phone, I also want a copy of the picture in my cloud storage (e.g. dropbox) immediately automatically.
3) What cloud storage is the best?
4) How to do backup using cloud storage?
Thanks
#1 may be possible, but it's not straightforward. You'd have to map the remote location as a local partition, maybe through Samba or FTP, then change the phone's settings to save to that mapped "folder." It's not so straightforward, and is prone to error, like what would happen if the network connection was down (or went down while you were recording video)?
The easiest solution is #2. There are a bunch of apps which do that (Dropsync and FolderSync Lite are 2 examples).
As far as comparing, it's best to do your own research, as everyone's preferences will differ, slightly. Here is a ZDNet article comparing different cloud services. Pogoplug and UbuntuOne both have apps which will automatically upload any pictures you take, making them single app solutions, if all you want is to back up pictures.

[Q] Looking for an app that automaticaly backups Callendar data

I will have Galaxy S4 (i9500) shortly (currently have sgs+) and I'm looking for an application that will allow me to backup the local callendar data that are written localy in the phone (not on google account) to my dropbox folder.
All I need, is an application that will either automaticaly (ideally) detect I made some changes in the local callendar (like add event, delete event etc) and it will automaticaly make a backup of the callendar and copy(or overwrite if there was already a file there with backup) it to a local destination path that I will define, or will do a periodic backups in the intervals that I will define (like say every 7 days).
So once that happens (copy the backup file to a path), dropbox app will detect the change in the local structure of it's folders, and will upload the changed file to the dropbox cloud.
All in all, that will help me prevent some tragedy, in case my phone will go bust suddenly without any notice and my local data will get lost (in consequence all my hundreds, and hundreds of events written inside the local callendar).
Anybody know of an application like that?

For that, i use Super Backup (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&hl=fr).
It does the job :good:
You're very close to my parameters, but still it's off by 2 factors.
1. Although it has scheduled backups, it can be only set for contacts, sms and call logs. No callendar backup option for scheduling.
2. Although it allows to specify the backup path (very good), It changes the filename, so I cannot pick one and the same file to be overwritten over and over again.
But you're very close, I appriciate the try.
To sum up my requirement with one last note, I want the backups to be happening without any action on my part, I want it to be done completely automaticaly, either by a schedule or by detection of callendar change that will trigger the backup (like for example dropbox application).

It doesn't.
I found another app "my backup", which is the closest one to my needs. It has scheduled backups, and it does allow me to select only callendar. The only thing missing is that it adds automaticaly the date at the end of the backup file.
In the end I found an application fitting my bill close enough. It's called My Backup, it makes backups of many things, but I cen specificaly sellect callendar only. It allows me to select the backups path, and although it does add the date to the end of the file of backup, it allows me to set how many of those backup files will be there in the destination path. So if I choose 1, it will be making backups over and over again, with new filenames, but it will always just leave the most recent one, and the rest will be deleted automaticaly, which is also a good solution on it's own, combining it with dropbox.
The only problem they have with application which they told me are planning to change, is that the restoration of the callendars can happen on either local or online callendar, and it's not determined by the user, but it happens by chance (very strange if you ask me). Second is that they backup all events local as well as online, while I would preffer only local to be backup'd, since online ones are being stored on google servers anyway.
But, all in all the application fits the bill, and when they include those 2 fix for the above issues it will fit perfectly. Thanks to all people who tried to help.
