I run opera mobile 9.5 (16643) on a TMobile TP2. It used to be that startup was almost instantaneous, but then a few days ago, Opera would hang for a good minute or so at startup. I did everything: cleared the cache, cookies, passwords, history, etc. I searched extensively for the past few days on the xda site and found nothing that fixed the problem.
Here's the fix:
1. In the address bar of Opera delete the "http://www." and type: opera:config
2. Find the section called "Proxy" and click the box next to "No Proxy Servers Check" and then save. (It will show a Javascript message. Click OK)
3. Exit Opera via exit on the menu (not the "x").
4. Restart Opera. The slow start problem should be fixed.
Good job, thanks for sharing!

Didn't like the homepage in PIE so changed it. (attached photo)
However, everytime i click on favorites or history tab(the ones wif the double arrows pointing downwards), i'm directed to opera mobile(it opens by itself). it's really puzzling..
On my HTC elf, clicking on favorites opens up my favorites, and clicking on history opens up my history. On my HTC cruise it doesn't.
I tried to go into opera's settings to unclick it from being default but it seems opera mobile doesn't even have this option.
Can anyone help me wif a registry tweak or something?
this could be due to file association problems. maybe when u installed opera mobile it changed file assoc. for webpages (html, shtml, php, etc.) to open w/ opera mobile only ..
i have opera mobile but i don't have that prob. check the reg for file associations.

could you give me some directions as to where that might be?
I have PHM regedit on my hp..
Is it just me that can't get the opera start page to change? I can set it in the settings to google.com (or whatever) and when I hit the home button it goes there, but no matter what I do I can't get it to open to that page when opera starts up.
Additionally, after I updated my music library with windows media mobile, when I launch opera from the programs menu it loads windowsmedia.com.
When I launch from the "Search the Web" shortcut in landscape tf3d, it launches the stupid yahoo search page.
Someone please help me, I'm pulling my hair out here. I won't both of the above to open opera to about:blank.
(I have searched but I didn't find any mention)
After setting it in settings, you need to make sure that you hit the check mark at the bottom. Don't just hit OK.
Somehow my internet browser switched to a different one for default.
Opera to IE
I want Opera to be the default browser, how can I fix this?

I have the same problem but vice versa. I like IE and NOT Opera.
I had this same issue after installing Skyfire. I found the solution for restoring Opera to default here :
http://discuss.pocketnow.com/showthread.php?t=25543
[TIP] Restore Opera Mobile as default browser
If you have tried Skyfire and are wishing you could restore Opera Mobile as the default browser, there is an easy way to do this.
1) Open Opera Mobile
2) Type opera:config into the address, this gives you access to tons of preferences
3) Expand the install bullet
4) Check Browser First Time Launch and press Save
5) Exit Opera
6) Restart Opera
The first time you restart it will take a while, and may even close without showing you the browser, but now open a link from e-mail or other source and it should use Opera to open.

Thank you very much. It works!
Thank you much -- it worked for me as well. Don't know why, but Skyfire was awful on my Fuze -- slow, jerky, and wouldn't even render some pages?!?
after i install this hayruko's version it seems that i'm having a problem with my browser. even when i change the uia string via about:debug to change it to desktop version after a while the browser goes back to mobile version are you guys having the same problem? i hate mobile browser version is there anyway to permanently change the uia string instead of keep changing it everytime i go to my browser?
Actually, if you configure it on googles site (search preferences) to use full html you will be fine. It is not an issue with the browser, but with google automatically dumming down the pages it lists in search results.
1) Go directly to google.com and select the settings link.
2) Truen off "Format web pages for your phone"
3) Save.
Hope this helps. If you clear cookies you will have to do this again.
did not help. there's gotta be some option to change user agent permanently...
I know Opera mini reroutes through a server to decrease the data actually downloaded to the phone. Does the pre-installed Opera 9.5 work along the same lines, or does it download the full page as per a regular browser?
If you activate Turbo in Opera Mobile it will function like Opera Mini and route the data through a server, but in 'out the box' configuration it is like any other browser, direct from the server of the page you are accessing (simplistically speaking anyway)
Thanks!
Does anyone know whether Skyfire reroutes or loads directly?

I don't see any option to turn it on and off. Did I miss it somewhere?
nevermind, I guess I had to use the command opera:config and change it in there. I though tit would be some kind of quick toggle switch in setting.
