Need help, PIE or Opera will not load with Wifi - General Questions and Answers

Okay for some weird reason, I have trouble opening PIE, and Opera. Iam able to connect to my router, and it does show the connected wifi icon on top.
-I have indeed disabled proxy.
-I have made Wifi slider to high performance.
-My router is set to b/g not n, and is set to Auto(WPA or WPA2), TKIP andAES.
-I also made my htc networkcard connect to internet, and set all adaptors to
server assigned.
-Oh yeah I also have disabled the router network passkey, but still could
get the same PIE error.
I spent alot of time trying to find the answer for this but nothing seems to work. If anyone has a remedy, or any suggestions please post..

settings->connections->connections->advanced->select network
is it set to my home network or whatever wifi connection and not isp connection
is called on your device?

What do u mean by home network or wifi network? The only options are medianet, at&t isp, my isp, and my work network.
If you mean my work network, I had it on the bottom selection where it says automatically connects to private network. The one on top says automatically connects to the Internet.

Wifi before gprs for email +web

Hi all - i have my xda mini s setup to connect to the internet and collect my exchange emails all works fine.
i use it at work + at home a lot and both locations have a wifi broadband network.
i would like my xda mini s to only connect to GPRS for web browsing and emails when a stored wifi network is not in range (eg when im on the road)
Is it possible to enter in this preference anywhere? thanks in advance for any help
Actually, as far as PIE or any program that connects to the internet is concerned WiFi takes precedence over GPRS by default.
The problem is MS push mail. It forces GPRS even if WiFi is connected. If you try to serf to a graphics heavy site wile connected to both GPRS and WiFi you will see the speed difference.
I am not sure what the logic behind this MS stupidity is, and unfortunately I don't know of any cure except deleting the GPRS settings.
hi - and thanks.
damn.
well i did have a qucik test i went on the web and it seemed to be connecting to gprs (while i was already connected to a wifi network)
i will have a play.
There's one other thing I forgo to mention:
When connection to WiFi make sure you select the correct value under "This network connects to".
I assume your GPRS settings are under My ISP and that is what's selected in Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Network selection.
You should then select "The internet" for the WiFi network.

No internet via wifi?

Hi guys,
I've recently become the proud owner of a vodafone touch pro. However when connecting to wifi, opera etc will not find any webpages. Now i know my wifi is working and the phone connects fine and picks up the DHCP ip address.
What could I be doing wrong? I've noticed data connections is disabled but I believe this is just for GPRS etc? Either way how can I confirm my wifi connection is being used?
Many thanks
EDIT - NM it was because it was not set to work
Hi Scribe,
I had the same problem as yours. No solution so far. Had no problem with GPRS.
I have mine working good on either wifi or GPRS.
Probably it's wifi problem? Have you tried on another wifi connection?
what was not set to work?
I have the same issue, connects to wifi but no internet. laptop connects and browses fine, but touch pro (and also diamond) don't
Make sure when you set your wifi connection up you say that it is used to connect to work not the internet, also make sure your adapter settings say this.
The problem is that the phone will always default to GPRS/3G for the internet but if it senses a local work network it will use that first.
Stupid I know!
I have the same prob, I changed some settings and it works. Try change Authentication to Shared instead of WAP-PSK, Data Encryption to WEP instead of TKIP. After you have internet connection, you can change to previous wifi settings with same network key.
Mine has gone again! I swear it's because 'Connects to the internet' wont save in the proxy settings - nope not that and still wont work, I've also tried by disabling all security

Dataconnection priority

hey, I have a problem with my HTC TP.
it always prefers the HSDPA link when connecting with a web based application souch as opera or MSN.
Even if I have it connected to a Wi-Fi it still boots up the HSDPA and goes online using that link.
I'm new to WM, so this is a bit vague, but I had the same problem, but I fixed it at some point last week...
There is a setting, somwhere (I told you it was a bit vague!), that tells programs to use WiFi as the default connection. I can't for the life of me remember where, and I've flashed roms since, but I'm sure it was a windows setting in "settings > Connections".
Sorry I couldn't be any more help, but at least you know there is a fix, somwhere...!
Hehe, thanks, I've tried looking for this feature for hours, becouse I can't for the love of whoever understand why there wouldn't be an option for it
there isn't one because it shouldn't need it. As long as your Wi-Fi is set to Internet, and Not work, it should always use that as long as it is connected.
Just having Wi-Fi turned on doesn't cut it.
There are certain applications that will always use the cellular network, like pushmail, but in general, all apps will use whichever internet connection is available. and if Wi-Fi isn;t connected, it will automatically connect to GPRS/3G.
Wellt hats the problem, I connected it t my home Wi-Fi set it as internet connection and the problem remains. I have redone the settings several times and it still prefers the HSDPA connection.
if I turn of all other alternatives to connect to the web, like removing APN settings for GPRS and HSDPA it uses the Wi-Fi, but as long as there is another Access link to the net the Wi-Fi isn't used
I have the same problem with Hotmail syncing (not defaulting to Wi-Fi), but not with Opera. I do have to change the connection settings though first from the T-Mobile Internet (and their magic transparent proxy) before Opera can work over Wi-Fi, but I thought the connection settings were just for HSDPA/GPRS connections. I'm finding this increasingly frustrating that I need to reconfigure everything depending where I am.
BTW, to get Hotmail to use Wi-Fi I have to go to the Comm Manager and turn off "Phone", turning off "Data Connection" doesn't work, because it craftily turns it back on, seconds later!

Can't connect to wifi network (WPA PSK)

So, after browsing a bit about this I'm still unable to connect to my work wifi network. Every other network I'm able to connect just fine.
I put the wifi password, authenticates, goes to "obtaining ip address", goes back to authenticate.. and doesn't connect.
Forcing (using manual IP configuration) connects but doesn't open websites, even tho I'm using the connect gateway / dns servers. (even used 1st dns same as gateway).
Got a LG 4x next to me connecting just fine, problem is only on my nexus 5.
So far happens on 4.4.2 and 4.4.3.
Tried some tips that I saw around the web like disabing nfc or turning on and off airplane mode (although there isn't much logic in these), but still nothing.
Wifi password is correct.
Problem it seems is somewhere obtaining the ip from the router or something, as it goes back when it reaches this point, but then again forcing it allows me to connect but doesn't open websites.
Any tips? I'm suing WPA2 PSK at home and it's fine.
The network is in a 2ghz range channel 10.
Any help is appreciated.
PS - Router is a linksys WAP54G.
Thanks a lot!

How can I use cellular data while connected to a wifi without Internet access?

I have Pi 4's that create a network in my car and boat for music control (J. River Media Center). But since those Pi's aren't connected to any 4G modems Messenger, mail, web reader and other Internet connected stuff does not work while connected to dem. I have read that going to developer's options and activate "Cellular Data Always Active" should work, but it doesn't. I still get no data in to them while I'm on the wifi without Internet.
I have also read that I can set the gateway on these two networks as empty, and then phone will automatically get Internet data from the cellular network. Only one problem: That's not possible because the "Save" button is grey when there's no default gateway added. Is there anything else I can use for this?
