Fraud: Turning inbound call into outbound. WM 6.1 Pro - Possible? - General Questions and Answers

Hi Guys and Girls
I got an inbound call from 08432114198 today. My Touch HD froze when I wanted to accept and when it finally did I found myself on hold and eventually connected to a voice mail box with the company not identifying themselves. I only then noticed, when ending the call, that I called out and incurred a charge. Obviously, if I press pick-up when they ended the call I call out. Just wondering whether there's a way for the inbound caller to make my HD freeze as it did to trick me into calling out and getting a chunk of my call costs? It probably is a stupid question just wondered as it was an unsolicited call from a high rate number and the caller didn't identified themselves. HD works fine on any other call. Is it me being paranoid?
Thank you for your time and thoughts.

Call forwarding from landline to XDA

I need to forward a land line rom my home to my XDA1 occasionally. It is a standard PSTN line.
On my Nokia the calling number comes up as number>, indicating a forwarded call, and on Motorolla the calling number comes up as forwarded call - number
Onthe XDA there is no indication that the number is dialing the XDA direct or dilaing the landline number and being forwarded.
Is there a fix, or a way of indicating a forwarded call?
Thanks. BB
MAN! you should ask your local landline phone company to enable "call forwarding" feature!
it is nothing about your XDA!
cgigate, i think you totally misunderstood the poster. if you ever used the call forwarding feature, you would notice on most normal mobile phone, the would be indictaors like ">", "->", "Call Divereted" displayed before the incoming number, so that you would know that a call that comes into your mobile phone was in fact a forwarded / transfered call (from another landline or mobile).
i have the same problem as well. it seems like this is a Phone Edition feature (or lack of feature), it doesn't support showing the call origin indicator. or maybe the Microsoft developers have just discarded this and therefore never bothered to programme to display them.
it's really a hassle as I now have no way to tell if a call was made to my mobile, OR a call was made to my office but transfered to my mobile.

Yes, I misunderstood it.
I'm using call forwarding every day.
"Call Divereted" displayed before the incoming number, actually it is very hard to notice , even it is Nokia/SE/Mot phone.
it's mobile phone dependent feature actually.
My last Siemens phone display a small arrow in front of the number like -> , and the little arrow stayed there as long as it's ringing, but disappeared when you look at the call register later.
I'm hoping somewhere along the line, maybe developers of Caller ID alike could pick this up and add to the feature.

XDA always missing some good features as a phone
Anyone has any suggestion?
There is no solution yet.
Not solution yet?
Now we have Wm2k3SE. Is there any solution for bbourke's problem.
I do really miss this feature, because I use dual sim adapter and sometimes call goes to "inactive" SIM and is forwarded to active SIM...
does anyone know how to discover calls comming from forwarded lines?

Is is truly unbelievable to me that in this day and age such an essential phone function could have been overlooked! I have been searching for days and days and found NOTHING or got stupid responses such as "use Google" (Online only, uses Data and for US Citizens only) or "use voicemail" (expensive cellular provider subscription add-on)... I mean, come on! When even the cheapest home phones can be gotten with built in answering machines, how come this essential feature is nowhere to be seen on android phones?
What's the deal, what's the technical hangup, what's the problem? Can anyone explain the REASON why there are NO call answering machine-like apps of any kind out there?

Im looking for the same thing and can't find it too!
Here is my need. I have a business phone number and my personal cell phone number. All my customers should call me to my business number which I can set to auto-forward to my cell only at the time I want to. But some of my customers know my cell phone number and they keep having this bad habit of calling me on it instead of my business phone number.
I'm looking for a app that will be tracking in the background the caller id number of incoming calls, if the number is a on list of unwanted that I have set, it will auto-answer, play an audio file recorded by me (like: "Please dial 111-222-3333 to reach me, thanks you") and then hang-up.
I don't feel alone with the need of a solution like this. And there are apps that can auto-answer call according to the caller id and there are apps that can play audio in a call, I don't see why it could not be technically possible to combine both.
wow
can't belive it, i was looking for the same and found several threads like this one, that's sad
let's hope sth comes up
Yeah, I used to have this function on my old fliphone from way back in 2002! Also, on my Windows Mobile phones after that...
Exactly. My nokia flip from ages ago (ran symbian OS) has an app on it called "Advanced Answering Machine" or "Advanced Call Manager" or something similar.
I could set it up so that it would direct calls to different greetings depending on the caller ID. An example of this is, I wont accept calls from "unknown" or "blocked" etc numbers. ACM/AAM would handle this perfectly. It would answer the phone, play the Telstra (thats a telco in australia) message "the number you have called is not available from this service." twice, then hang up. Later on I found out I was missing some important calls (the message confused some people such as the landlord who had a blocked number) so I changed it to "I do not accept calls from blocked numbers. To unblock your number, dial 1831 in front of your number. It wont cost you any more". This fixed the problem.
It was also programmed to answer calls after 30 seconds of ringing and play a standard greeting then take a message.
It was a very versatile program. I could (for example) divert certain calls to a party line if I didnt want calls from that particular number; however I didnt, as the diverted leg would cost me a fortune.
Its a shame on these advanced handsets today that such a simple, commonly available on landline phones, feature is not available. I can control televisions, fly remote controlled toys and vapourize components with a big bank of capacitors over bluetooth using my phone, yet it cant perform a simple answering machine function.
From what I hear the API that handles these functions is not directly accessable to developers; probably because "malware" could hook in and dial high priced premium calls and rack up huge bills all the while the phone owner not knowing until the monthly account comes in.
I did see one answerphone somewhere but it utilised the speaker so if it took a call (for example while your at the pub) the caller would not hear your greeting, or on the train everyone around you would hear your greeting and then the callers message, so not very practical. It would NOT work properly while the phone was on mute.
xperia phones come with buit-in answering machine feature. or use jail broken iphone and u have half a dozen apps which can do it.
unfortunately in android noway.. even if u r rooted.. no way

[app request] auto answer

Hello,
During the last days I got a lot of so called "ping calls".
Someone is calling from abroad, let the phone ring just a very short time, hoping I call back the expensive number he submitted.
This is really arguing and disturbing.
Now I am looking for an app (android), that answers the call (from a pre selected area code) immediately, without activating the mic. Maybe playing a funny MP3...
Of course it should mute the ringing.
Thank you for your help and ideas.

They have fake number apps on the app store, they call via wifi and when you call them, you can play your silly music.
I don't want to call them. I want to answer their call, because this would cost them money.

Incoming gsm/lte phone connection priority over other communicators audio connections

HI all,
My gf's phone behaves in a really strange way...
During an audio call using common communicators, say skype, whatsapp, messenger, if a new incoming gsm/lte connection is coming, then it automatically takes priority over communicator call. Communicator call is put on hold.
What is most annoying, is that you are not able to inform the person on other side of the line that there is a new incoming connection - no, the second incoming connection is appearing on screen, current connection is put on hold. To clarify, user can chose whether to accept or cancel new incoming call, but the 'communicator' call is already on hold;(
I find this most annoying coming from iphone environment, where I have full control on all live and incoming connections and where no connection is prioritised. When im on a whatsapp audio call and a regular gsm connection is coming, I can let other person know that I have incoming connection and decide to answer, cancel or put current call on call. I find this rather normal behaviour. Unfortunately this is not the case on my gf's phone which drives me nuts
Please let me know if this is case of specific ROM, or android os in general? I hope you could guide me toward an easy solution, hopefully not requiring reinstalling new rom. Many thanks!
Phone is running MIUI Global 10.2.1.0, Android 8.0.0.

Can you get hacked by calling a number?

I searched a lot to find a forum for this topic I couldn't find one so here it goes.
I live in Canada and I received 5 or more calls from this number (716-895-3300) .. it is a Buffalo, NY number and it is a medical facility fax number or something from what I found out in my search. I received 5 calls within half an hour from this. Every time it would leave a voice message and the voice message is silent except some beeping noises. I didn't answer the call even though I was tempted but I made a big mistake. I accidentally called it... I was trying to call my voice message number but my finger hit this number and it went on until my phone vibrated(meaning probably that call went through) and then I hang up. After calling this number the calls stopped. Again suspicious.
So my question is... can you get hacked if you call a suspicious number like this?
I changed my banking app password but didn't change my multiple email address passwords.... too lazy. So can you get hacked if you call a suspicious number and the call goes through and just when they are about to pick up you hang up?
What makes you think you been hacked?
It may be true that your device was compromised, but not from those calls.
I don't think that your mobile phone will get hacked if you just call a suspicious number.
Probably ok for such a short time frame call...
