Is there any news about official release of windows 6.5 because today is 6th October. The day it was supposed to be released.
you know that the fact that it get released will not mean consumers can buy it
right ?
only thing is means is that manufacturers who promised that some models would get it gets it
and newer models can be released with it

Thanks Rudegar!
At least the developers Or ROM cookers can release good ROMs based on official release.
Just had a mailshot from a large mail order supplier here in the UK. They have supplied my employer for several years, so there is no reason to suspect them of being deliberately misleading.
HTC Touch2 6.5 available now.
HTC HD2 6.5 - Expected from 11th November.
Acer neoTouch F1 6.5 available now. (May be non HTC. Can't confirm.)
P.S. Better mention that all three devices are unlocked. (No contract.)

Has anybody heard of any official update coming from mother HTC?
They haven't released even a SINGLE update and the device desperately needs one (for example to get the newer HD "more flat screen friendly" dialer etc.)...
Haven't heard a thing of them ...
There piss poor engineers are waiting for xda coders to fix the problems, then they will change the code just a little bit and release a "update".
It's kinda sad, since I chose an HTC product because of XDA-devs AND because the mother company tends not to forget to update the products.
Yes cases like the "non-2D/3D-accelerated" problem with previous models comes to mind, but if for example we compare HTC to HP, we are talking about Paradise.
I still expect some OFFICIAL update from HTC. We've seen them releasing updated firmware on devices based on the same platform as TP, so why not make the simple port?

They probably are thinking that it is working perfect HTC really stinks when it comes to support, I am using my Nokia E71 more and more and hardly ever use my TP.
Hope this is the right place to ask this.
Will both these devices be running on WM 6.5 out of the box or just the Firestone?
I ask because I have seen conflicting reports on this.
I am told that even if the Touch Pro doesn't come with 6.5 it will be offered as an upgrade by HTC as soon as 6.5 is available?
I never got a Touch HD in the end or X1 because I saw 6.5 was on the way & thought I would wait for that & if I am going to get a HTC device I want to know 6.5 will be in the equation.
Your information is correct. If 6.5 comes out before the new phone, the phone will contain 6.5. If the new phone comes out first then it will contain 6.1 and an upgrade will be available.
While I have yet to see a definitive list, the general concensus is the phones that were released in the last year or so Raphael, Diamond , Blackstone, et.al, will have an upgrade to 6.5 available from HTC, the older Touchs, Kaiser, Titan Mogul, will not have 6.5 updates avaiable.
But around here does it really matter what HTC or the carriers choose to make available ?

That's interesting to hear as I thought they weren't going to offer 6.5 for devices such as the Touch HD. Be interesting to see if 6.1 and 6.5 devices released in 2008/2009 will be able to be upgraded to WM 7.
While HTC's profits lie in selling new phones and there is no profit in supporting older phones, there is a certain PR standard that has to be maintained. I should think that to not offer an upgrade for a phone that was released less that a year ago ( Blackstone ) wouldn't sit well with many customers and potential buyers.
But as I said, around here it is a rather moot point as I was running a 6.1 rom well before 6.1 came out, and have been running 6.5 for over a month, well that is until M$ issued their cease and desist order, at which point I complied and immediately downgraded to 6.1.

We have all probable seen the pictures of how WM 6.5 differs as far as the UI is concerned by how different is it 'under-the-hood' so too speak?
I just saw this
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/17/windows-mobile-6-5-to-officially-launch-on-may-11/
Does anyone know how this release will work? will HTC pick this up and offer it as a upgrade on there recent devices like they did with WM6.1?
I really Hope this is the case.
From what I've heard about this, "release" only means the emulator images will be officially released, maybe along with a little showcase from Microsoft. Windows Mobile 6.5 shouldn't officially hit devices for a while after that (I'm guessing a month or two at the very least).
However, XDA's fine community of ROM chefs will have this running on every device long before HTC. And although Microsoft's official upgrade guidelines require only that the device have at least a 400MHz processor and 128MB RAM, the OEM has the final say in whether a device gets an official upgrade or not. HTC has only confirmed that the Touch Pro2 and Diamond2 will get official upgrades, but the MIX '09 conference had a Touch Pro running 6.5, so at least we know it can run it alright.
In my poor old Kaiser's case, I'm positive I won't get an official one; HTC wants me to buy a new device, not to keep using my old one. That doesn't make them any money. But like I said, the brilliant chefs will have this running on every un-upgraded eligible device in no time. But I think the answer is maybe/yes, in the sense that very recent HTC devices will get officially upgraded.

So as a fellow sprint customer and having the TP2, we all have been waiting when they will be will release Win Mo 6.5 and they keep pushing the date and pushing the date. Well i have a friend who has the Tp2 for T Mobile and that phone has Win Mo 6.5 features and its especially different then my Sprint TP2. Well about a week ago for about a sec i pressed the start menu on the top right corner and instead of it going straight to the programs menu it gave a the feature that seen Win Mo 6.5 Tp2 phones have and was wondering if anyone will know if i possibly have the update or do you think that it was some sort of test cause IDK? Any information will help
You wont have 6.5 until you download the updated ROM, when released, to your computer and flash the phone. It isnt going to magically show up in the phone.
^^ agreed!

None of which would stop you from putting any number of WinMo 6.5 roms on your phone right now. Flashing the TP2 is not rocket science and there are very stable 6.5 roms out...or questionably stable 6.5.3 roms if you're feeling adventurous.
Has anyone from the States tried the Win Mo 6.5 upgrade from HTC's site and had success with it from any carrier?

what upgrade from HTC's site??? what phone is it for???
Rhodium I think, but that's for the GSM version of the phone. You might brick the CDMA version of it.
Sprint TP2 > 6.5 Update
While Microsoft recently estimated a Sprint Touch Pro2 update to 6.5/x was due February 2010, that has changed.
The MS Mobile site was updated yesterday and it now reads:
Touch Pro 2 HTC Sprint Date not yet available
I was hoping to avoid flashing (with the native HTC Messaging issues), I'm more than disappointed to have the ETA changed.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ~
boooooo
yeah this delay kind of sucks. I hope sprint somehow pushes out a unique new 6.5 rom that's better than vzw and at&t's.

We can only hope, but I doubt it.
The day that 6.5 came out on October 22 I was checking my phone every hour trying to get my update to 6.5 not knowing that it wasn't going to be released. Oddly enough I DID get an upgrade notice, but when I went to install it I got an installation failed message. The Orange 6.5 logo popped up and everything. I was so mad when I found I wasn't going to be getting my upgrade anytime soon.
I mean I bought the Touch Pro 2 for two reasons, its keyboard and its upgrade to 6.5; so far I feel like I'm being half ass'd by Sprint and HTC.
The thing that REALLY gets me is not just that I am still waiting for the 6.5 upgrade but how much longer am I going to have to wait in order to get a 6.5.3 upgrade!? I mean forget about the possibility of a 6.6 next month, I still am waiting for 6.5! It is total bull! The only thing that keeps me satisfied is the fact that I pay $20 less a month than other carriers for a similar plan.
I'd go down to my Sprint store and complain in the hopes of getting some money back on my phone but customer service is so dead these days it would be in vein.
The only thing I am NOT looking forward to in 6.5 is the calendar app for Titanium. I love my Touchflo 3D but once I upgrade I'm going to turning it off to save some battery life. Decisions Decision, one day I'll be able to make them. :|
Sprint Touch Pro 2 update
I have an inside scoope from the local corporate store and the techs there are telling me in February 2010 they are realising the updated rom of Windows Mobile 7 for the sprint touch pro 2.
i dont know anymore about it I was trying to find out what extras if any are different than what we have.

lol...In addition to not even having WM7 betas (I bet they're not even at a full-on alpha stage), it's already known that the only [HTC] device that can support the official WM7 ROM is the HD2 due to its capacitive screen and 1Ghz CPU.
I do have a friend who works more in the corporate IT side of things at Sprint. He was the sole reason I stayed with Sprint and got my TP2 instead of moving on. What he told me he was able to find out is that Sprint is still working on enhancments to teh WinMo6.5 platform and it may acutally truly be the 6.5.3 version they have. Even he was getting mixed info and he works in the ifrastructure of the IT area.
But with all the other things that Sprint offers on their units like the NFL, Sprint Cup, enhancements to implement 4g, etc, etc, they are making certain it is as reliable as possible before releasing it. Since they've had such a black eye over the last few years due to Customer Service issues and such, they are trying to do the right thing and not tick off alot of customers by ruining their phones with an update. they have been watching the other companies that hav rolled out releases and essentially using them as beta testers.
Hopefully, when the new release comes out, everyone will think ( or at least a majority will) that it was worth the wait.

The amount of smiley faces in this post made me disregard it faster than the improper and possibly misinformed reference to Windows Mobile 6.5 as 7.

If this is the truth I'd be very pleased. We are four months into Windows Mobile 6.5 and none of us 'normal folk' have heard a peep out of Sprint about anything close to an upgrade other than a vague "Quarter 1". The way this is going I might have to start asking the question if they mean Q1 of 2010 or 2011?
All I can say is that IF when we do finally get 6.5 and it is 6.5.3 I'd be 100% satisfied with the wait I endured. I want my repositioned start button!!!
Why can AT&T, Verizon & T-Mobile get the WM6.5 update for the TP2 much earlier than Sprint? I hope the wait gives us 6.5.3 vs 6.5. I would rather have 6.5 now, vs waiting for 6.5.3 for another two months. I must use a carrier supplied released for my business.
The sprint site clearly states that 6.5 is comming in the first qtr of 2010... not 7.0
Release Date
I'm a Sprint employee and can confirm that the release date will be sometime this month (Feb. 2010). My rep didn't have any details of 6.5 or 6.5.3, but did promise a release this month.

it is not already known. there never was any official statements from htc or microsoft. there are also no full wm7 specs published.
When can we expect support to continue until for our trophys and omnias through official roms? Tango? Apollo? Unknown?
Bump (10char)
well i dont think even microsoft employees know this for sure so its just guessing for now... id say the apollo will be the last update available for us ;]
Apollo is WP8? With only one generation of phones available, I'm eager to see how (and if) MS will take care of the old devices in a year or so. Did they ever say something in this regard?
Yea, apollo is rumoured to be the next big mango like release and bring WP8 while tango will be the nodo like one.
I think that actualization will be available as long as hardware in our mobiles will be sufficient.
So this is official support. Although unless hardware requirements change I'm sure we will still get some custom roms afterwards which will give us new updates etc.
Btw when are tango and Apollo suspected to be released? Would make sense for Apollo (provided it is indeed wp8) to be released with Windows 8 which is rumored Q4 2012. How long after Apollo will there be a new update and will we still be supported?
I am assuming most of us are on a 2 year contract so if the updates are "to die for" I don't see it being too much of a problem as we could possibly just upgrade to a next Gen windows phone device
Nothing official or unofficial has been said that I know of. However I think Apollo would be the last update available for us.
It would make sense for them to support phones for at least two years, that way hardware won't hold back the progress in regards to the actual operating system. Plus after 2 years most people in the US are eligible for an upgrade!
Zune players
The Zune players have been supported for many years. So we can at least hope for the same with the phones to receive updates as long as the hardware supports it. The only problem is that now it depends on the OEMs and carriers as well.
