TP2 and Orb with Core Vs Win Media - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I have Orb running at home and have used it with TCPMP in my Mogul for two years with no problems. TCPMP does not work on the TP2, so I upgraded to Core Player, but the Core player (which works fine for video files on the device) plays audio files that I orb, but crashes everytime I try to stream the TV feed.
Windows media player will play the TV feed, but the playback is so choppy as to be worthless. Even Sprint TV plays better than Orb on Windows Media
.
Has anyone had a problem with Core 1.3.6 build 7427 and Orb?

Actually I found Kinoma Free/Play while searching for a better way to access my Orb server than just the website. I have had no issues with the FreePlay option, with the exception of a couple of things I browsed through were in a codec only available with the paid version of Kinoma Play.
Might be worth checking out for your Orb access.

I run into issues every now and again with Orb and Core Player. My suggestion is to go in your Orb settings and change what kind of stream it is. I have had good results with .asx

In regrades to ORB and Core try this. I have done it and it work and as a side note orb seems to stream better too. Loged into ORVB on your phone goto settings>Streaming Formats>and select Winamp format (.pls). This will use winamp for your mobile but still use ASX for your desktop. The only problem is everyting you have to log in on your mobile you will have to change it to PLS if your cookies get deleted from your phone. As I stated this streams MUCH MUCH better and buffering is better too. Hope this helps

A Better Media Player?

I just got a new stereo bluetooth headset (Samsung SBH-170) and I had feared this would happen.
Up till now I've been using TCPMP to view my videos and listen to my music, since it can pretty much do everything that Windows Media Player is missing. But now I run into something that WMP offers that TCPMP doesn't: compatibility.
None of the buttons on the headset will work with TCPMP. However, WMP doesn't let me create/save playlists, watch DivX/XviD encoded movies, and eats up my program memory.
So is there any other media players out there that would work, or perhaps an updated version of TCPMP or WMP to fix these issues?
I have Sompy on my computer, but I can't recall why I'm not using it.
Edit:
I have a Wizard and have updated to T-Mobile's latest release.
I've been actively searching for something, but I can't find much. There are some apps that support music only, but who would want three media players on your device? I've also found a program that allows creation and editing of WMP playlists.
Update:
Found CorePlayer, which appears to be the commercial version of TCPMP (let me know if I'm late on this), but there is still some issues with stereo bluetooth control.
Wait for jan 2007 when Betaplayer will be released (www.betaplayer.com)
Well thats confusing. Why is CoreCodec releasing an opensource player to compete with their commericial player?
Oh, and I found another reason to hate WMP. When listening to my music, it will become distorted (either noticably slower or faster so the tone changes) and then stop, then start again with the distortion and get better later. This does not happen with TCPMP though.
This is lame.
More info on BetaPlayer here: http://www.corecodec.com/forum/index.php?topic=3565.0
Did never had those speed fluctuations ou mentioned with WMP on 2003SE as you mentioned.

Windows Mobile Media Players?

I love my iPhone because it can be my media player and my phone. But, I need more functionality offered in Windows Mobile.
So, do you guys use your Windows Mobile device as a Media Player? Or do you have separate Zunes/iPods/etc. to do the work of the media player?
If you do use Window Mobile, let me know what program you use for your media!
TCPMP is an excellent media player. I have not found an unlocked audio or video file it could not play. If you search for TCPMP in this forum or in the XDA-Developers Wiki you'll find most anything you'd want to know.
That said, while TCPMP is a nice player, it is not an organizer nor does it have a fancy "choosing" function for selecting files. Perhaps someone could recommend an application that makes launching TCPMP more intuitive.
Both have their place
I've got a Zune 30 that I bring along when I know I'll want plenty of music to choose from. My main reason is that battery life on my Tilt is not what I'd like it to be because my 8 gig sd card has plenty of room for tunes, and S2P is one of the slickest programs I've ever seen. You would be comfortable with it immediately. I do listen to Audible content (newspaper) on my phone every morning with the Kinoma player. It's actually easier to get the content onto my phone than to get it on my Zune. Audible's manager program blows hard. The Kinoma player can handle pictures, video, and streams as well. I use it for Youtube all the time.
As an added bonus for us Zune owners, I recently discoverd that ZunePass subscription content can be synched to our phones with Windows Media Player and plays just fine in either WMP or S2P, so I have been putting more music on the SD card lately.
on those occasions when i only want to carry one device then I use S2P to play audio files on my Trinity.
S2P on the Tilt for music, TCPMP for movies. Done.
Is s2p free? What media formats does it support? Is it A2DP compatible? And does it have any way of controlling music in standby mode (Can you click the D-Pad while the screen is off to skip a song??? Can you control volume using the toggle switches?
Thanks for the tips guys!
I use the HTC Audio Manager, which has a very similar interface to the classic iPod. You can use the D-Pad to control it and the volume switch to change the volume (but I think the device has to be on)
It supports A2DP.
You can also control it from the home screen (http://www.unwiredview.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/htc-touch-diamond-official.jpg)
Kinoma Player
I've used this free program called Kinoma Player which is brilliant.
It has full touch friendly interface, it can stream youtube files, supports many other files, it's great overall, even has podcasts.
I'd recommend that program, you can get it off of Windows Mobile Total Access or from Kinoma's sight directly.
Hey, about the ZunePass stuff, my subscription music doesn't work on my T-Mobile Wing. Any clue why? probably cuz of the DRM's but you guys said urs worked, so it leaves me wondering.
Do you sync ur Zune music to your phone using Windows Media Player sync? Or do you just drag & drop the music to ur card?
Sync the ZunePass content through WMP
and it should work. At least that is what works for me.

streaming media

hey guys, just wondering if there are any good media streaming apps out there, an app kinda like orb for the iphone where i can stream movies and songs from my pc to my phone. obviously there will be some apps out there that will do it but i just wanna see your recomendations, preferably freeware but if its paid i dont mind. i have a hd2 aswell so im not sure about compatability issues, resolution, touchscreen etc so hopefully someone with a hd2 has an app like the one i have described and can point me in the right direction
seriously no one knows of anything like im asking?
Have you tried Kinoma?
I use Kinoma to stream Audible content and Youtube daily. It has an Orb client built in as well. I haven't had great success with the Orb though. I think my library is so large that it takes a while for each screen of the library to appear. Once a file is selected the streaming works fine.
Well, for Windows Mobile I have written a widget with a streams database. The only negative point of the widget is that you can't stream from your computer, however you will have access to a database with over 11.000 television, webcam and radio streams.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525482
A paid version (and another demo version) can be found in the MarketPlace, the full version has quite some options.
But since you want to stream from your pc, you could try myStreams from the MarketPlace. You can add stream urls to the application, so if you setup your computer to stream the music (for example as radio or another setup) you can add the url to myStreams and play it from your mobile phone with your favorite player (and myStreams has also quite a huge database). However, only a paid version is available.
Kind regards,
Themuzz

[Q] Streaming Media from UPnP Server

I have a 4 TB NAS appliances on our home network loaded with all our family's media. This works great for our other networked devices (blu-ray players, wii, 360, etc) and using the builf in file manager on the G I can map to the NAS. Problem comes whenever it hits some xvid/divx/mpg video files, it just won't play.
Any recommendation of an app that can do media from a network server?
There is a dlna app that comes with the droid x that I don't believe is tied into the framework. I will see if I can link the files for it.

Getting a decent uPnP client is on my list of ToDo's - I'm hoping that we can port the Archos video player over, just for that purpose.
Found a link to the APK, but I haven't tried it yet...
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-discussions/2818-droid-x-dlna-app.html
<edit> Parse Error: There is a problem parsing this package. when trying to install it via Root Explorer.
<edit2>Copied the link wrong which caused the parse error, APK installs correctly and the app runs fine as a DLNA server. ( I didn't verify connectivity), but it force-closes if you select "Network Settings Set up Wireless Access Points" possibly due to the TnT version of Settings?
either way, it makes your gTablet a server, not a client so you won't be browsing your NAS with this APK...
ah well, looks like we might be waiting for kernel source or a custom compiled kernel to get streaming video.

I found an app called UPnPlay in the market that is working really well for me. If you are familiar with the Archos media player this has very similar capability. If you haven't done the market fix you probably won't find it though.
I was just watching a movie streaming from my Windows home server on my G tablet. Played nice.. Took it a few minutes to initially find my server but it did.

Nice tip used it and rockplayer worked perfect
This is a nice app - tried it and it found my media player (PS3MediaServer) fairly quickly. It did crash once, but it's certainly better than nothing.
It plays audio and photos well, but video seems a bit choppy on my setup so far. I have all different types of containers / codecs so I might have to find the sweet spot - Xvid / MP3 / AVI's seem to play best.
Thanks for the find!
No mkv support, but otherwise looks good
Heck, this thing even found our DirecTV HD DVR as well as the uPnP NAS!

I think it's limited by the video player - and MKV support on the GTab is very limited, unfortunately.
Fantastic Find! Thanks Sprdtyf350-
Nice!
This finds my MythTV server. I am able to play .wmv videos on the MythTV server, with the default player. But it is unable to play the MythTV recordings of OTA digital (HDTV). These are a form of mpeg-2 video, similar to what a standard DVD is. If we can find a player that can play DVD files, then I think it will play MythTV recordings too.
ORB LIVE is the answer.
Orb is the Answer to this... if we can make it work.... I use Orblive on my EVO and it works amazingly. I can stream from anywhere and it decodes most files. It runs over Wifi, 3g and if I am on the same network as my server, it goes direct without hitting the Internet. I works GREAT.
But unfortunately, it doesnt work right on my GTAB. This could be specific to my device, but it cannot stream the files. This sucks because this is one of my main uses for buying this device. With Flash fixed, I can stream through the internet via the orb.com webpage. But the App works much better. If anyone that understands the codecs of these things can figure out how to make the orblive app work, it would be amazing.
To the G tablet users using UPnPlay, how do divx files do for seeking/searching? I'm using UPnPlay on my Evo with both Rockplayer and Vplayer and neither searches or seeks particulary well..... or at all. If the video file plays with Androids native video player, it seeks just fine.
I don't want to be forced to always begin playback and the start of the video and not be able to resume where I left off if I have to leave the player/app.

Stream videos from PC harddrive?

Does anyone know of a way of watching videos that are saved on my PC's harddrive on my phone via WiFi? It seems like this should be reasonably simple to do.
Thanks
Get MyMediaWP7 on the marketplace and have tversity on your pc. Great app.

TVersity Pro (only this one have some sense) is buggy and extremely pricey. $70 for "household" license - what these guys are thinking?.. Also, Pro version out of box can transcode not more than 10% of my media (HDTV video rips).

Huh? The OP was asking for a possibility to stream media from his home PC to his WP7 device. So why would it need TVersity Pro? I use the free server and the trial on my WP7. Streaming works absolutely fine even over 3G.
Free version can do "on the fly" transcoding for WP7? What kind of videos works fine on your PC (bitrate, dimensions, containers), and what is your's PC CPU? I've tried to transcode "on the fly" full HD rips packed to mkv (dual core P4, 2.8 GHz) - no luck at all.

Most videos are simple divX encoded avi files. Transcoding works absolutely fine for me. Of course I wouldn't even try to watch a full HD RIP. Way too much data for transcoding and streaming on the fly.
Remote Potato 1.x and higher can be installed on computers running Windows XP or higher and no longer requires a Windows Media Center to work. There are several apps on Marketplace that can stream video files from Remote Potato to Windows Phone 7.

I thought that this seemed the most viable of the solutions, but Smart Potato doesn't seem to have any option anywhere to view videos, and Media Buddy fails to play anything giving errors.
And the server doesn't have an option to only allow local connections, which I think it should. Granted I can fix that in my firewall, but that's not the point.
I couldn't try the TVersity solution, even though MyMedia WP7 looks excellent, because I didn't accept their licence agreement.
Does anyone know of any solutions that work? Perhaps something that would work with an XBMC server?
Thanks
Since this thread is 6 months old, has there been any update on this? Like any new apps or imporvements in Mango to help streaming of video?
I want to find a way to reproduce the functionality of an app like AirVideo on my iPhone - I find WP7 VERY frustrating with the lack of decent streaming video apps and support. (In desperation I tried to write myself an HTML5 one but almost nothing plays on in IE9 in WP7 despite MS saying the versions on PC and WP7 are identical - guess it's a codec problem.)
Why is it possible for me to stream *any* video faultlessly via AirVideo on my 4 year old iPhone 3G but the latest, greatest WP7 phone from 2011 refuses to play anything not in MS's narrow range of accepted formats?!?! I just want to stream AVI and MKV files (not HD rips, just TV shows and music videos etc) to my Windows Phone!!
Try Qloud Media, very good app, streams almost any type of video file.

Thanks for that - will try it out at home tonight... just one Q - does it stream most or all videos, transcoding on the fly, or do the videos already have to be encoded to WP7?

It transcodes all videos on teh fly, I use it and it works really nice.
Excellent, thanks again. I've downloaded the trial version so I can't wait to get home and get it set up.... if it's as good as you say (which I'm sure it will be) I'll buy the full version. Then I can hopefully (finally!) ditch my old iPhone!
