Thanks for that. It looks good.
Q: Is there a way to remove app2sd?

3.0 for some reason doesn't work. It keeps telling me no data connection. 2.0 and now 2.1 do work however. Any ideas?

excellent ROM,
been from 2.0 upto 2.1 and now 3.0
only thing is that i don't see "secondary SD memory" in settings?
formated using SDParted script Swap=32Mb, EXT4=512Mb, rest FAT32 (8Gb class 6)
Internal Phone Storage stays 280~290Mb, so i presume Apps2SD is working ?
cheers

Magic 32B (originally Vodafone UK, now AKIRAH 3.0 in Jakarta)

i hope someone can port to 32A for us...

very simple ROM but with some nice goodies. Keeps it simple and efficient.
Question, w/ compcache enabled at start, should I customize my own userconf / unserinit.sh to set swap size, and whether to use linux or backing swap?
What are the default settings?

Default is just 24Meg of compcache. Of course you can put user.conf and userinit.sh on /system/sd and it will take values from there.

hi, i have a problem: i did wipe and i flashed this ROM from recovery, but the boot stops at the screen "android"...
i had a 4.0.4 cyanogen with 3 partitions: fat32, ext2 and swap...
how can i solve this problem?
thanks

question about micro (magic 32B)
Hello,
first of all, thanks for your work, and all your current updates.
Second, I have not tried what I am going to ask, but anyway here it is.
Since Cyanogen found out the way to create "dual" roms for the dream and magic everyone has been doing them that way, but in all of them I have always had problems with the microphone sensitivity when in a call.
There is a little fix (pushing the audio files from an original 32B to the rom), wich works perfectly.
Now the question: Is this the normal procedure? no one has noticed this error before? can this still be done in Donut (I think the location of the files is the same)? Is this just a problem only I am having?
(ok, maybe more than one question )
The fix refered is the following:
adb push AudioPreProcess.csv /system/etc
adb push AudioPara4.csv /system/etc
adb push AudioFilter.csv /system/etc
Thanks for all

Is there any way of getting the Hero email client working in Donut?? Mass delete functions are seriously needed on my device.

Would be great to have whole SENSE UI on Donut Small question ADP1 means ? I`m using MAgic 32A ... Would it be compatible ? I`m newbie with Android... Thanks for reply

To be honest I am not really that bothered with the senseUI having played with pretty much all the hero builds, speed and stability is more important to me but androids inbuilt email client is about the worst one I have ever tried, the hero version is slightly more usable though.
I am surprised that there are not more email client apps in the market, all I can find on there is k9.
Also while I am here, will the blur theme work on 3.0?? I quite liked that one and it has been overwritten.

For 32A users:
I haven't tested this yet, but if someone wants to give this a try, it should work.
Download: http://briancrook.ca/magic/akirah-3.0-32a-port-signed.zip
md5: 4f431ae885633518e0ee804470125ef8
Push this and the full ROM from the front page to your sdcard. Reboot into a recovery that allows you to flash a .zip that isn't only named "update.zip" (like Amon_RAs RAv1.2.1). Apply the ROM from the first page, them apply this patch. It will change the kernel to a 32A compliant one with BFS 300 (thanks to Radix999 for keeping on top of the BFS/kernel situation).

Whenever you go from Cupcake to a Donut to a Hero ROM or visa versa you have to wipe your ext3 partition as well or it boot loops. The easiest way to do this is to upgrade to Amon_RA's recovery and it gives you the option without having to go into console.
So wipe the phone, wipe the ext3 and repair ext partition, then flash the ROM.
Amon RA's Recovery
I know the recovery says Dream but I have it on my 32B with no issues, as well as several other people.

Anyone know if MyFaves works with this? I don't want to install it then have it FC.

up and running since 8 AM with only a single issue, but I think thats BFS300 related bc I experienced the same issues on the hero builds using it.
edited user-conf so Im running 192 MB backing swap, 80 swappiness, and 100% good compress.
Only thing I want now is a dark theme, but seeing how stable and reliable this build it, its only a matter of time before it picks up the momentum to attract theme makers.

am i correct in sayin this is better than cyanogens recovery image and will work with all the same things as cyanogens recovery does ??

you are confused. this is a rom not a recovery image. did you post in the wrong thread or something?

Beautiful rom, but I've some problems:
- gps starts, but never give me my position.
- the bar on the top of the screen (the bar that contains notification, icons, clock...) suddenly disappeared
thank you (and excuse me form my bad English )

NOTE
For this rom to working correctly you will need to have 3 partitions on your memory card.
Fat32
ext2/3
linux-swap
in that correct order The swap partition will need to be atleast 32 mb. Making larger won't help as that is the size I have left to. may change later but 32 seems to be more then suffcient.

Alternative Method: (suggested)
Install RAv Recovery to format your SD Card

WARNING BEFORE FLASH !!!
ONLY For those who have already a Partitioned SD Card and Tried many times ROMS !!!
1) Mount your SD Card and copy the Rom over it
2) Rename it in update.zip
3) Go in Terminal or ADB
4) Delete your /data/app_s/*.* manually in this way:
Code:
adb shell
cd data
cd app_s
rm *.*
reboot
5) Press immediately HOME+POWER before the splash screen
6) Do a Nice Wipe Data
7) Apply sdcard:update.zip
Installed Apps are on ext2/3 and a Wipe Data doesn't seems to clean them well !
Other Installed Apps are on /data/app/ and I let you decide to clean them or not
Eg.
If you installed any app from Market you will always have it installed, also after a Wipe
Features:
Camera works
MULTILANGUAGE
G-Sensor - GPS - WiFi
Full Market with Paid apps !
IME Support for all languages
I used Noverca Audio files, best one IMHO
Small Size Rosie.apk (just deleted a lot of useless background)

Added Funny Notification Sounds
Added More Funny Notification Sounds provided by Bhavski

[ROMs] JACxHERO 1.0 and 1.2, JACHeroSki 2.7.4r2 for Magic 32B

These are entirely unchanged from the ROMs on the thread over in Dream land below (apart from one small fix for Exchange in version 1.0)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534479
These are JAC and Drizzy's ROMs, not mine - all I've done is unpack the ROM, change one file in boot.img to make it work on a Magic, and then repack it all and sign it. So we'll forego the sigfile saying "if you like my work please buy me a Ferrari". However, this whole thing is a bit of a faffy operation and not something that's simple to set up (although is easy enough once you have everything you need in place) so I thought I'd share and save others the grief rather than hogging all the fun for myself.
These have come about because I wanted a Hero ROM, but wasn't entirely satisfied with the best one available for the Magic (Qtek's, IMO). It worked well, but the swap version dropped SMS messages sometimes, and the Compcache version was buggy, sluggish, and wifi didn't work.
JACxHERO seems to have a number of the same issues that Qtek has - dropped SMS messages (it seems that the lack of memory on the device causes the SMS/MMS process to die), and the Compcache version has broken Wifi. I said earlier on that I thought this version was oddly sluggish, but after setting up Compcache with backing swap I am loving it. By far the best Hero ROM on my own setup so far. No Wifi is a drag but I can live with it for now.
JACHeroSki 2.7.4.r2 in contrast is an older build, and one suspects they're using an older kernel; it has a working Compcache setup, but no conventional swap at all, and no multitouch. A good call if you have a slow SD card, can live without multitouch, and positively have to have wifi.
Bottom line as I see it:
Fast SD card? Use JACxHero v1.2. But you might lose SMSes (that said, no-one's reported any yet - I just worry about lack of memory issues)
Slow SD card but need wifi, and can live without multitouch? Use JacHeroSki 2.7.4 r2.
Slow SD card and want multitouch, or you insist on Compcache for other reasons, and not interested in wifi? Use JACxHero v1.0.
I personally am running 1.0 and after not being keen initially, it is growing on me and turning into a keeper. I only ever use wifi when at home and can do without it there, so it's not a problem for me.
----
JACxHero Version 1.2 - seems fast, but no Compcache
http://www.4shared.com/file/123726235/aa3ee695/jacxhero12-pn-magic.html
JACxHero Version 1.0 - Compcache, WiFi doesn't work properly. Works well if you enable backing swap and up the swappiness. See my user.conf on page 3 of the thread.
http://www.4shared.com/file/123729537/191c816a/jacxhero10-pn-magic.html
http://www.4shared.com/file/123821706/7250ac6b/jacxhero10-exfix.html (version with Exchange fix - I haven't tested this but it should be fine)
(version 1.1 didn't seem to be enormously different than 1.2; I did try it and have a working .zip but don't see much point uploading it)
JACHeroSki v2.7.4r3 - Compcache works by default, as does wifi. Note, though, there's no multitouch in the browser, which is a bit fail.
http://www.4shared.com/file/123798395/c61c220a/jacheroski274r2-pn-magic.html
NOTE THAT ALL OF THESE NEED THE USUAL THREE PARTITIONED SD CARD! i.e. fat32/ext2/swap
why have the v1.2 no compcache?
eljuego
As a note remember that JACxHero Roms dont have Compcache enabled by default.
The first post in the Dream Forum JacxHero thread tells you how to enable it - you need to edit the user.conf file, which i think is in /system/bin, can't remember right now.
It tells you which settings to change to get each combination of linux-swap and compcache
(BTW I know as it's working for me...)
Is it for 32A or 32B?
The rom for 32a or 32b ?

No idea mate. I suspect it was because of the issues with WiFi that they removed it until they could fix it.
One oddity I've noticed - the weather widget doesn't work. i select London as a city, it has a bit of a churn saying "loading weather", and no weather ever turns up. Clicking into the weather app workable fine.
Snap judgement - it's not as fast as Qtek's Rom. Just feels a bit "off". Maybe it's just me.
Loccy, the widget are buggy you sure you have ported the version 1.2 not the version 1.1 ? In version 1.2 the widget are fixed
edit : The widget have no border, but the rom is really fast probably the fastest rom i have tested !!!!

Am pretty sure I called 1.2 the right filename but I was drowning in roms by the end so it is possible I got them mixed up. Can't check until I get home now though.
Either way I'm not too impressed - more bugs than Qtek and it is eating battery (although I have been hammerring the phone more or less constantly over the few hours I've been out). I think when I get home I'm going to build the final JacHeroski Rom and see how that goes, I believe that has Compcache running.
Dazcox, how are you finding this Rom? You've been running it longer than me.
Actually I've been using QTek today... but about to install this one will let you know

Really? It's not a patch on Qtek for me. How fast's your SD card?
Am just downloading the final release of JacHeroSki - v2.7.4r2 - and will give that a try. I wonder if some of these new releases are a little too bleeding edge to be useful. If a worthwhile update.zip for the 32B emerges I'll post it here.

Ah. I have the stock 2Gb Vodafone pile of ****e (plus an "8Gb class 6" that I bought from ebay that causes a reboot loop on my Magic ). That'd probably be the problem for me.
Right chaps, here's another one for you. This is JacHeroSki version 2.7.4 r2. Someone else here has done JacHeroSki previously*, but I don't think they ever updated to the final release. It's a little behind the curve in that JAC seems to have gone on to work with Dizzy, and in a different direction, and it won't see any more development. It has working Compcache, but lacks the fancy config scripts of later builds. If you want to play with your Compcache settings, you need to edit the a2sd script in /system/bin. No conventional swap or facility for one. I'd say this is pretty much where Qtek was trying to go with his Compcache ROM though:
http://www.4shared.com/file/123729537/191c816a/jacxhero10-pn-magic.html
Am not sure I'm going to stick with this, however. I've just seen in the thread on the Dream forum that you can get Compcache working in JacXHero 1.2 by nabbing the boot.img from 1.0, so I'll give that a go too. What I'd really like is a working ROM with Compcache and swap as a backup.
edit: * speak of the devil, it's just turned up on the front page of the threads, they did do the final release, but it was for 32A not 32B. Oh, and am very disappointed to find no multitouch in the browser.

Honest answer? I don't know. I got a couple of text earlier when running JACxHERO 1.2, and I was hammering the browser at the time (if icanhascheezburger.com isn't going to run you out of available memory, I don't know what is). But I think a definitive answer will have to come from people who text more than I. Unfortunately texts seem to be an issue on all Hero ROMs on the G1 and the Magic 32B, because of memory - hence why my goal is to get a build with as much "memory" as possible, even if most of it is swap and compcache sleight of hand.

Which one? I found I had to completely clean off my ext2 partition before it'd run (coming from the Qtek ROM). Well, actually what I did was go into the recovery console and shift everything the Qtek had left in ext2 into another directory so that this ROM didn't get confused by it

If you were coming from Qtek's Rom, like I did, It does boot loop unless you clean your ext partition first, then wipe and reinstall the rom. It runs like a champ.
to erase the ext: boot into recovery
then from adb shell : run
mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
rm -rf /system/sd/*
then do whats stated above and no boot loop anymore.
PS: Loccy thx for the port.
PPS: to get this working with compcache instructions are in the first post of the dream rom

De nada. All I did was just change a few files.
I'm done for the night now people. I did try to get 1.2 running with 1.0's boot.img, but ended up with a ROM that had no working wifi and no apparent Compcache. I figured that wasn't any better than 1.0 proper (which I'm going to give another crack and see if I can tidy up the Compcache settings to my satisfaction - I can live without wifi for now).

[ROM][32A][32B] 13/09 2.2 - MoDaCo Custom ROM, Hero to Sapphire (optional 4.1.11.1)

READ FIRST - I am no longer updating my ROMs - details.
If you're following the Hero scene, you'll know that I have published a custom ROM based on the 1.73.405.5 shipping ROM. I have a Vodafone Magic (32B) and a T-Mobile G1 kicking around (and HTC want my PR review unit Hero back!), so figured it would be cool to firstly build a really simple way for me to package my ROMs for all 3 devices, and secondly try and produce an update.zip that runs on all 3!
Well, the first step is here, I have the MoDaCo Custom ROM ready to install on your Sapphire 32B device (and a 32A version is available to test).
Things you should know...
- Contents are IDENTICAL to the MoDaCo Custom ROM versions detailed here.
- I have used cyanogen's kernel from 4.0.4 (big respect to cyanogen, he's doing awesome work!)
- Now compcache ready - use this script for a big performance boost!
It has room for improvement, but it runs really sweet already IMHO!
The download link (in update.zip format for flashing in the usual way via recovery image) is at: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-modaco-custom-rom-hero-to-sapphire-32b-port/
I've packaged Cyanogen's 4.1.11.1 BFS enabled Kernel and wlan.ko as an update.zip too (see above thread) - nandroid backup before applying!
I've quoted some of my original Hero post here, so you know what you're getting. Enjoy!

This ROM is based on the Generic 2.73.405.5 release version of the 'new update' (together with my own optimisations) for the best possible performance! The ROM is now available in 2 versions - 'core' and 'enhanced' by popular request.
Included in both 'core' and 'enhanced' versions
- Rooted with 'adb remount' permission and superuser APK

Is this ready to go as far as elimintating the blurry screen AND wifi ??
Just asking as the 1.5 and 1.51 both gave me fuzzys, and applying the update eliminated the fuzzys but took away wifi !
Either way. Thank You SOOO much I knew if I waited you'd give us something nice for the holiday !
You think a wipe would be needed going from 1.51 to 2.1?

to avoid any possible issues, I'd suggest a fresh wipe. I didnt add to much after the last rom I flashed so im gonna start over with my sdcard as well
A wipe is always wise, but SHOULDN'T be necessary...
P
Going to try this one now. How is the bluetooth support? Can paired headsets now actually work when calling?
re: support for ANYTHING other than WiFi and Camera (which both work), I don't know!
Let me know stuff that doesn't work, and i'll try to fix it in the next version.
Consider this a starting point...
P
For 32A I recommend the 2.6.29 kernel that redglasses uses on his Hero ROM:
http://www.2shared.com/file/7555649/5881ee4a/myhero-110.html
Might be stuck, d'oh!
So far, did a nandroid, wiped, etc. Updated, rebooted, and after asking for the language and network settings it's sat at a blank screen for some time. Status bar at the top, if left alone and hit the call button the dialer will appear and afterwards you'll see the unlock screen. But it just unlocks back to a blank screen. :/
So far this is the first ROM I've run into that's done this interesting bit. Will maybe reformat SD Card and rewipe, or something.
Nevermind. Rebooted, and it somehow proceeded this time around. Strange, though :/
dont really care for blutooth sound, but will it work for wireless tether ?? thats what I miss from using non hero roms.. having wifi back is also nice !!
Success!
Only noticeable thing is that when you go to far away from the home screen (going into settings, the dialer, etc), and return, it has to reload again for about 10 seconds. But once it's there it's fairly snappy.
Bluetooth pairs and works like it should! I might just hold onto this version of the ROM and tinker with it for a while.

My swap's a bit rediculously larger. It's not that bad a lag, but only really noticeable when going back "home" from an application.
No swap or compcache etc. out of the box yet, let's fathom out the best settings together!

I'll upload a 32A version for someone to test...

modaco,
I am having all kinds of problems with this rom im still getting a blurry screen, it froze on me 3 times, im stuck in portrait and i keep getting the htc loading screen. I downloaded the file twice to eliminate possiblity of a faulty download as well.
mytouch...amonra 1.2.1, ext3. might have to go back to 1.51 that one worked great
I can confirm that this is running beautifully on my 32A device using redglasses/myhero boot.img and wlan.ko.
Seems to be significantly faster than the 1.73 builds, thank you modaco! Now you just need the 2.84+ build as well

[ROM] 09/09 2.2 - MoDaCo Custom ROM - Hero to Dream port (optional 4.1.6)

READ FIRST - I am no longer updating my ROMs - details.
If you're following the Hero scene, you'll know that I have published a custom ROM based on the 1.73.405.5 shipping ROM. I have a Vodafone Magic (32B) and a T-Mobile G1 kicking around (and HTC want my PR review unit Hero back!), so figured it would be cool to firstly build a really simple way for me to package my ROMs for all 3 devices, and secondly try and produce an update.zip that runs on all 3!
Well, the first step is here, I have the MoDaCo Custom ROM ready to install on your Sapphire 32B device (if anyone can point me at a boot.img / kernel that runs this on 32A, i'll include that in the package (I can't test 32A)).
Things you should know...
- Contents are IDENTICAL to the MoDaCo Custom ROM core version detailed here.
- I have used cyanogen's kernel from 4.0.4 (big respect to cyanogen, he's doing awesome work!)
- Now compcache ready - use this script for a big performance boost!
It has room for improvement, and given the serious lack of ROM on the G1, I think optimising is a priority. Hopefully it will also provide a useful base for some other chefs. All that said and done tho, I don't think in it's current state it's unusable!
The download link (in update.zip format for flashing in the usual way via recovery image) is at: http://android.modaco.com/content/h...-09-2-1-modaco-custom-rom-hero-to-dream-port/
I've packaged Cyanogen's 4.1.6 BFS enabled Kernel and wlan.ko as an update.zip too (see above thread) - nandroid backup before applying!
I've quoted some of my original Hero post here, so you know what you're getting. Enjoy!

It is based on a newer build of Hero. So it should technically be better. May need some optimization for the G1 though.
I'm running CM v4.1.4 right now, I can just flash this without any other modification? Would a wipe be advisable?

Yeeeahhh.
The blaze is about to be set!
Got a question....
Are there any devs out there that can build a ROM from the ground up? Maybe a Hero clone that doesn't require so much space and resource? I've noticed (not being anything close to a dev) that you guys take a ROM developed by some techie at HTC and cook it to bring the rest of us enjoyment and peace with our phones, but does any dev have the know-how to develope a "Hero" ROM designed for the G1?
If this is retarded, just ignore the post and tell me to go brick my G1. Word...

if you have the money to pay my bills whilst I quit my day job and can wait several months. Then yes.
It takes TEAMS of people that get paid a **** ton of money MONTHS to develop a ROM from the ground up.

Scratch that. If you have the money to pay every cooker here for several months then yes it could be done.
EDIT: I'm only talking for myself and JAC, but a lot of the stuff JAC or I include in our builds we built from the source at http://android.git.kernel.org/

CM6.1-Miui-Style - Rom - 32B/2708 Radio

This rom is based on CM 6.1 final.
Its been injected with the latest MIUI, during this process, many of the graphic features have been Ported.
Features:
- All the CM goodies
- Automatic Apps2sdext
- Low Memory Killer settings on Boot
- Base Cm, none of the non essential applications
- Base of the Google Apps, by this i mean all those files you need to use market and sync,CarHome(i didnt find it on the market),PassionOffice to handle attachments, the others are Download-able from the market, so no need for them.
- Transparent GenieWidget, androotfile manager
- MiUi-Music!
- Original MiUi Bootanimation, scaled down ofc.
- Pershoot's kernel 2635.9,oc,uv,xtra,ram,fp#120810
- Custom Host file, ad-blocker
Req.
-87+ Mb on the system partition
-Ext partition 2/3/4 for apps2sdext
-Radio: 2.22.27.08|2.22.28.25
-SPL:1.33.0013d(Dream/Sapphire )/1.33.0013 (Sapphire ONLY)
Note, you could run this rom on 32A or old radio with 32B devices if you flash another kernel, recommended in that case: 32B-NON-2708 | 32A
How to install:
Start with a full wipe!
Flash it like any other rom.
Let it boot up, don't try to start to set it up till, at least, when the screen goes black.
If you get a LatinIME error Reboot and resume the setup from there, should go away.
On the SDcard you will find the adw launcher backup files, load them up, or make your own custom look. Bare in mind once you flash this rom, if you had other ADW back-ups on the sdcard root, they will be gone.
-Run fix_permissions first of all
-To configure the lowmemory killers run this: from ADB or Terminal:
a2sd lowmem-moderate|lowmem-optimum|lowmem-strict|lowmem-aggressive|lowmem-extreme|lowmem-ultimate|lowmem-default
-pick one of the options, im using lowmem-aggressive, looks pretty good
Credits:
XDA, CyanogenMod team/community, Pershoot, ezterry (all the 2708 work!), those MIUI DEVs, ASimmons (Theme Injector), Brut.all (all the apk toys), Darktremor (A2SD), DelsaDj for the idea !
Updates:
Seams i had to include a auto-kernel coz there are different boards and such , so for those who have issues, redownload.
Download:
Dropbox | Megaupload
- MD5: 311124f71c766b2ab9b44bb47ca81038
Extra:
HTC_IME Keyboard - nowipe update, flash in recovery.
Newer AndRoot download (flash in recovery)
*androot - home
No replies yet? Really?
I'll try this out right now, see whatsup.
Looks a lot more promising than the theme being developed in the other thread, no offense.
Tried installing, no LatinIME error but I'm getting fatal errors on com.android.phone. I'll reboot and see if that can fix anything. Tragically, if I can't get over this very large error, I may not be able to play.
HT-03A (Docomo branded Sapphire)
Radio: 2.22.27.08
SPL: 1.33.0013d

EDIT: ok no reboots so far rom is fast responsive and stable! will use it a couple days.
I flashed it with no problems but the boot animation wont show...only the G1 screen stays
Is it really Automatic a2sdext?
I found the ext is not auto mounted.
And I have to set the theme to stock_black to make colour appears correctly.

It is auto, unless ofc for some reason it cant mount your sdext partition. Well you just need to change the clock color, that bar is transparent because thats how it was in the MIUI rom.
@mahroze what radio& spl do you have ?
I can't get the swap to work automaticaly. Generally swap works, but after each reboot I must enable it and set swappiness.

tried out this ROM and seems to be working great. After a wipe and still get all my apps back from ext. I was actually expecting a ported MIUI framework but it was just a pimped out ADW Launcher.
Went back to MT3G AOSP 2.2.1 ROM. Getting all the stability that I need.

well, i didn't change anything in adw launcher(i simply think its the best launcher), so yea what MIUI you see here is from framework-res. I did try to mess with the launcher but for what ever reason he didn't like any theming, plus the other rom has a adw theme with miui icons, no point in making another
