Navman PXA255 - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
First, greetings for best forum on pda i ever seen!
Now, my problem:
i have found an old navigator from navman icn 320 with intel processor pxa255 at 200mhz, sdram 256mb from samsung K4S561632E, rom AL008D90BA102 (spansion), screen LTP283QV-F02 (samsung 240x320 i think) fits too in Eten G500.
it has a sd slot and i have soldered a mini usb on the pcb.
the navigator just works fine but it has the maps very old (2004).
the problem is: i want to install win on it. i don't want a specific version, just one that works fine.
after one week of reading various forums and sites i decided to make my question here. hope someone will give some idea.
so, if i press power on and center buttons on the screen comes this thing:
Navman icn 320 (32MB RAM)
Primary Bootloader 3.20.0003
Built on Jul 29 2005 at hour...
Insert a SD into slot...
if i put into sd slot his original sd, starts to flash and after restart.
from what i've saw on duff.dk this nav don't have a real OS.
so the problem is:
how can i rewrite the first bootloader? what do i need to make it?
if a connect the usb at winxp, it tells me there is a unknown component without drivers.
not even under linux 2.6.28-15 works. linux see this navman with
ID 0a99:0002 , and it's stops. if i load navman module, it will load too usbserial-generic and it will say registered new interface for navman.
and that's all what i can do. on duff.dk says: on this nav only read it's possible.
if i will press power on and ok buttons, comes out a menu with various options - test lcd, sound and so on. the last option it say X Enable usb debug.
if enabled this option, with usb cable connected when turn on the power will come out for one second this:
Navman icn 320
Bootloader 3.24.1012 built on jul 29 2005 hour.....
Debug out USB detected
Switch off permanently from the maintenance menu
Press ESC now to cancel (NORMAL debug output)
if the debug it's disabled when connected to usb of the computer the nav will load the splash screen and after that hangs. otherwise, without usb cable loads the splash screen and goes ahead to search the maps on sd.
so, can i write the first bootloader in some way? can i backup the first bootloader in some way?
i'm disposed to sacrifice this navman and to waste about 100 euro to understand and make writing of the bootloader. where, which one bl, which interface i need an so on.
i need to know if it's possible to load the first bootloader from sd or usb, and if not which interface i need to do it (jtag maybe, if yes, which one).
i hope someone here will help me with some idea.
escuse my poor english.
thanks

Possible Stupid Question. Lost USB connectivity.

Hi folks.
My Tornado (imate sp5) was flashed from factory WM5 to WM6 with VJ Grace 3.3, it worked just fine. One day I lost conenctivity via activesync over the usb cable. BT activesync still works fine. I had not done anything to the connecter port other than using USB cable to activesync occasionally, and to use the wall charger.
After 2 months of going like this, I decided to upgrade to a newer Nitrogen ROM, and I enter the bootloader mode by pressig the camera button and plugging in the usb cable. The three color screen comes just fine.
Now, when I attach the USB cable, I do not see the small writing "USB" at the lower left hand corner.
Also I cannot connect it with Terraterm pro or the RUU utility, says phone is not connected via the USB.
But my usb cable still charges the phone when connected to the PC, even though activesync doesnt do anything.
Is there anything I can do?
Can it be a hardware error? Or a registry change I might have done using smarttweaks (enable/disable charging over usb-- I dont remember). If so can it be restored or undone?
I tried hard resets (clear storage and leftsoftkey/rightsoftkey/powerbutton combinations), but still it doesnt recognise activesync.
My other windows mobile devices get connected to same pc activesync with no problem, using the same data cable. Heck I even repaired by reflashing a friend's Wizard using the same pc and cable last week.
Is it possible that my tornado's usb connector port might have gone poof (it still charges the phone), and is there any remedy to that?
Thanks for reading, and please help..
Regards,
Steve
I've got the same problem. I can't connect via AS:/
I had a similar problem once in a while when I upgraded my phone to WM6; it seemed almost random. One day, the phone wouldn't switch out of Vibrate mode, and ActiveSync wouldn't synch with the phone. The first time it happened, I had VJGrace's 3.3, and 3.4 had just come out, so I went ahead and flashed it. I didn't format binfs or anything (which, in my experience isn't necessary for a functioning OS flash, just a clean one) but it flashed a fresh WM6 on, and the problem went away.
Then, a couple weeks later, I had the same problem again. It was right around the time that VJ's 3.7 came out, so I flashed that (again without format binfs) and it fixed the problem again.
Then, a couple weeks later, I had the same problem yet again. This time, Nitro's Platinum Edition had just come out, so I flashed it. Haven't had the problem again.
Interesting note - since I got my Tornado, my first Smartphone, I have only ever done the format binfs once - the first time I flashed WM6. Haven't done it since. It's my opinion that format binfs gives you a CLEAN install of WinMobile, but is not strictly necessary.
So, to summarize: try direct-flashing a new WM6 install. Just plug in the USB cable - ignore ActiveSync when it fails to synchronize - and run the updater program. It'll take care of the rest, even if AS doesn't synch.
djsleepwalker:
If you lost USB connectivity, how did you flash your phone?
Should I read between the lines that the bootloader connected properly and that it was a WM6 driver problem?

To be totally honest, I'm not 100% certain. See, ActiveSync wouldn't SYNCH with the phone, but I could still "Explore" the phone. WM6 was active and working, and charged via USB cable, it just wouldn't synch.
So, after I connected the USB cable and ActiveSync popped up a message that said it couldn't synchronize with the phone, I just started up the ROMUpdateUtility program. It rebooted the phone into the bootloader for me.
I honestly never tried to start it back up in bootloader mode. The only reason I decided to just flash a new ROM was because I had already downloaded the ROM, but where I was at the time, I had no internet access (and therefore couldn't remember the steps before flashing the new ROM.) A friend of mine who has a Wizard (and who, I think, might be a member of this forum) suggested that I didn't *have* to format binfs to put an updated ROM on the phone, so I said screw it. I needed it out of Vibrate mode (my phone is my second alarm - my second line of defense against oversleeping) so I flashed the new ROM.
ninja edit: If ccpraveen is getting *nothing* when he connects the USB, then my suggestion probably won't help. But if Windows recognizes something being connected, and he can *explore* the phone, but ActiveSync just won't synchronize, then he's probably having the same problem I was. I can't tell for sure from reading his post.
Sweet...
Thanks for the comments, its all dejavu again
Djsleepwalker's comments did make me wonder, hey this is exactly my problem, except that mine doesnt connect in any manner.
Lots of similarities, problems started with VJ 3.3, on and off for a while with USB, then totally lost connection.
I am not concerned with formatting BINFS now, I somehow want to get the phone recognized.
Exitao has actually asked a VERY VALID query. It is indeed impossible to flash a phone without any USB connectivity (unless via an SD image or something). Djsleepwalker's issue was minimal, only that the PC was not showing up the activesync as connected, but indeed there WAS a connection, he could explore the phone from the pc etc, and I bet if he did go into the 3 color screen, he would have seen the "USB" on the left lower portion.
So, mine is just that. No connectivity. Nada. PC just sits dumb. Phone just gets charged, and finally into the fully charged green LED. Thats it.
Could there be something in VJ's ROM that is doing this?
I wonder, because a Wizard I once tried to repair would not let me flash upgrade either. I had to go back to a basic BUTTON ROM to get the upgrades running properly again. But there atleast I had connectivity then.
After I read DJ's comments, I tried running the RUU straight, without getting into the bootloader (for a change). Again its the same error 260. Here is a screenshot.
Anybody?

Steve
It seems, from the description, that the activesync profile became corrupt.
Deleting any device profiles from Activesync and connecting the phone as a new device might also solve the problem. However, it might be active synch on the phone that is the problem...
Anyone unsure how serious their problem is should just turn off the USB connect in activesync, start the phone into boot loader and do an "info 2" with terraterm pro.
If terraterm discovers the device, the USB is not the problem. It's activesynch.
Terraterm pro would not connect either.
I started the phone into bootloader by plugging in the usb while keeping the camera button pressed. Started the terraterm pro, selected Serial > USB, clicked Ok, Terraterm says ERROR, Cannot Open.
One minor thing, what do ppl normally see in their bootscreens? I see these lines, Tornado IPL 2.00 Tornado SPL 2.00.0000 and another line Tornado IU.
I dont remember seeing this third line saying Tornado IU before. Is it normal? It is in the middle zone( green coloured zone).
I believe my usb connector port might have a physical error. What else it could be. PC just will not detect ANY sort of USB connection.
Thanks again Exitao, I am stumped.
Regards
Steve
Have you tried any other USB ports on your computer? I know it's a longshot, but on my desktop PC one of the onboard USB ports just doesn't function at all. The other three do.
ninja edit: Maybe try it on another computer, too?
I tried on all four USB ports of my laptop, as well as on another Desktop PC I have.
Even without activesync installed, plugging in this should bring out a DING, saying something has been connected to the PC USB. (and asking for drivers, if Activesync was not installed. Here nothing happens, no DING). Remember, the same USB port is being used to sync my Wizard, Blackjack 2 and my old Himalaya even now.
Another possible reason, I was using a dumb chinese charger for charging the phone, after I lost the original one. Could that might have fried the usb pins?

Please excuse me if I'm stating the obvious, or if I'm a bit off, as I don't haven't used my Tornado in a bit (upgraded to Touch Cruise), but in the last ROM I used, NitroGen's latest WM6 version, there was an option in settings to disable usb connectivity and only allow USB charging. Perhaps VJ's ROM has the same option and you activated it. Have you already checked this?
Did you remeber to uncheck "Alllow USB connections" in activesync before you connected the boot-loaded phone?
This may be a hardware problem. Is it possible to use a can of compressed air to blow out any dust or debris from the USB socket on the phone?
Do you have WMStorage on your phone? If not, can you load it onto your storage card and install/run the app and see if the PC will recognise your device as a USB mass storage device?
I guess you also want to check the Device Manager in Windows and check for any exclamaition marks (!) or "bangs." Both with the phone disconnected and connected, and maybe even with wmstorage enabled. If it does show your phone in the device manager, delete or remove the device in the manager and reboot.
(To get to device manager, you can right click on "my computer" and select "properties", or press the Windows key and the Pause/Break key, or go to the control panel applet.)
BTW: is this XP?
If you are using Vista, try the following:
Step 1: Press Start
Step 2: Select settings
Step 3: Select (6) Connections
Step 4: Select (0) More
Step 5: Select (1) USB to PC
Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems
connecting ActiveSync.
Step 6: Disable the option - Enable advanced network functionality
Step 7: Press done 3 times
Step 8: Return to main screen.
Step 9: Uninstall unrecognized USB device in device manager (on PC)
Step 10: reboot Phone and reconnect

If XP, keep going...
You've stated that the PC is recognising your other devices. Isn't there a limit to the number of windows mobile devices you can sync or associate with one installation of activesync? Can you delete a device and try again?
Is USB charging enabled or disabled in your phone? Try toggling the setting to opposite whatever it is.
If you are using a firewall app, add these programs to your firewall's exemptions:
# Wcesmgr.exe
# Wcescomm.exe
# Rapimgr.exe
Or simply disable any firewalls, network traffic optimisers or possibly antivirus (some have network protections) app to test if that has an effect.
Ok guys..
I will try doing all these, step by step and lets see
And accept my sincere gratitude from my heart for detailing all these info for me, I am soo deeply moved
Sincerely
Steve

No need for thanx. If I helped, just give Nitro a donation on my behalf.
Well guys, with deep regret, I must say, even after trying all that, the phone stays put. PC wont recognise it, neither as a phone nor as a mass storage device. The connector port must have gone kaput.
I kinda feel stupid, u know, with all the tweaks and hacks out there, what use it is, if the dumb thing wont be recognised? Hmm.. So much for the tornado, now stuck at VJ 3.3 (unless someone find a way to flash via an SD image or something).
Well, thanks guys, your support did make me feel better, in the WM world, all is not lost, as long as there are good souls like you, willing to help, live and let live.
Regards
Steve.
PS: If the phone was not recognised in the bootloader mode, (ie even before the operating system has kicked in), I guess there should not be any difference if activesync was installed or not; and if or not mass storage option is enabled or not, right? Well, correct me if I am wrong, I think so. Could be wrong.
This is probably a useless comment, but have you tried using bluetooth instead of usb to connect to your computer?
Have u tried to delete the network card from XP device manager ?
U can also disable advanced network functionnality from your smartphone in "settings" -> "connections" -> "USB to PC"
Good luck
Can You Tried Different Usb Cable :d
i have some problem, after flashing to WM6 activesync or WM5torage can't connect..i have HTC prophet too, and i use same usb cable & PC, my HTC Prophet still can connect via activesync or WM5torage

[Q] Build Windows XP for Android Tablet? Possible?

Hello,
I have a pretty cheap but good android tablet made by craig, it is a Craig CMP 738a Android Tablet, and I was wondering with the specs that the tablet contains, that it might be able to run Windows XP.
I will do everything myself, like rebuilding the XP to run with drivers that might make the touchscreen and stuff work, but I've run into a major problem that I cannot seem to figure out.
I cannot figure out how to boot from say, a bootable flash drive on the tablet to where I can install Windows XP. I can't figure out how to load the files to install the OS. (The tablet does have a USB Port to use)
Can anyone possibly figure out how to boot from a flash drive instead of the default Android OS?
Thank you, and I would also love to try a Linux OS like Ubuntu on that tablet as well. Might be easier.
Android Tablet Specs
RAM: 256 MB
CPU: 700 MHz
HDD: 4GB Flash Memory w. External SD Card (8GB Memory)
Hardware: 7" (i think) 720x480 Resistive Touch Screen
Hard Home Button, Hard Option (menu) button, and Power Button, the back button is software.
Volume buttons and a power switch, Mini HDMI Port, USB Host, USB Port (for connecting to computer), SD Slot (up to 32GB memory).

I don't believe your tab has the power to run XP. You'd need at least a gig of ram. Also this project is futile. You'd need to compile a new boot loader and technically it would be illegal based on Microsoft software stuff. It's a nice idea but just buy a Windows tab. In the end it'll be cheaper lol.
Its damn near impossible considering we don't have the source code for XP. All programs that run on desktops and laptops are compiled to run on x86 processors, just about all mobile devices are using ARM processors so you would need to recompile the code for ARM.
All it was really was an idea to do in my free time, and no source code for XP would be a problem, though, I do have 98 laying around somewhere. What about linux? Would that be easier to do?
EDIT: I've solved the booting problem though. I just need to unlock the device's bootloader. I need to know how to enter bootloader mode on this device though, can I do it through ADB? It is a rooted device.

Cenovo MiniPC

Hi guys. Help greatly appreciated.
I bought a Cenovo MiniPC from Gearbest 2 months ago and from day 1 I've been getting blue screen errors. I immediately reported this to Gearbest and as you can imagine with the time difference between here (Sweden) and there (China) I was getting slow responses. Cut a long story short they 1st offered me a $20 refund from a $90 device, I accepted at the time as the errors have not appeared for over a week and thought it could be the end of it. 2 weeks after this the errors came back and it wasn't just blue screen on startup but it would freeze up during a session. I again reported this demanding for a full refund and they refused. I opened a dispute with PayPal and after a while they offered me a further $20 which I refused, they then sent me an email and said if I close the dispute they will give me a full refund. I was hesitant whether this was a scam but I went along with it and to their word I got a refund 3 days later.
After I got my refund I thought I may as well try and fix it myself now so I started in BIOS and fiddled with some switches for the emmc, one was 'secure erase', I don't know what was going through my head or what I thought the outcome would be but I enabled it and restarted. Now it just boots into BIOS and I am guessing the reason is that the emmc is now blank.
So ive now got a minipc with a blank emmc, I have loaded a bootable copy of Windows 10 setup to a usb and forced a usb boot in the bios but nothing happens.
I have opened the case to look for a emmc card I can take out and put in my laptop to reformat with an os but I couldn't find anything, there was a metal grill on one side that looks like it is hiding stuff and it is impossible to lift the grill off.
There is a tf card reader on the side so i am thinking that I can extract a Android image onto the card and boot from the card but I am not sure how and whether it will work.
Can i get some assistance in this please.
James
Hello, I've got same problem, 0xc000025 error code, arrived my tentative to upgrade the PC to Windows 10 (the PC arrived with 8.1 installed)
No way to boot my USB in the bios. Have you solved? Someone can help?
try and format the usb stick to 4k sectors before using the win10 media creator, think that's how i did it
Thank you for replying and sorry for the late response.
Have you got the same mini pc?
How do you format stick into 4k sectors? What format did you use (Fat32,NTFS...)?
fat32, in windows format dialog box its "allocation unit size" set to 4096
to boot from usb the stick has to be recognised as bootable before u can run the bios command to override boot device
yep i figured it out thanks. ive now got another problem and this is totally my fault if it cant be fixed...
in bios i unchecked the option to use integrated graphics so now when i boot i see nothing

intesting, daft thing to do tho, u could try borrow a usb gfx card?
Does anybody know how to reset the bios, because I've disabled the usb ( stupid x 10000 ) and I cannot use the usb ports (mouse and keyboard)
same problem here... I've disabled xhci support and no USB right now. The problem is that removing the battery does not make the bios to default.
I've still got the issue with no picture. I need to reset the bios but not sure how. Or maybe I can connect it to my laptop and get it working from there
yo. just got myself a cenovo mini pc 2, and it runs windows 10, but it's not legit. That bothers me, so I want to run android or linux. You guys mention that it's running a BIOS, but i think perhaps the mini pc 2 is running non-BIOS/EFI, because there's no preboot screen, and USB drives don't boot up at all.
Hi !
Did anyone got a chance at installing another os ?
I have a Cenovo mini pc 2 and I had troubles with sound. I had no issue for a week or two and then (maybe windows update, who knows) the sound would switch to the speakers output instead of the hdmi one. (it was plugged on my tv) so I decided (stupidly) to uninstall the audio components with the hope that windows would redetect and reinstall them with better drivers. Well, that didn't work and now in my device manager are two unknown components which don't work and I have no sound at all. If anyone found the global drivers for the device, or could make me a screenshot of their devices panel...
In the meantime I would probably try my luck to install openelec or kodibuntu on it but I couldn't manage to boot on bios. Did anyone tried using the Advanced startup option of windows 10 ?

I still have the problem with no graphics.
I know the problem as I disabled the onboard graphics in bios... I know **** head move.
I have tried to remove the lead leading from the bios to the motherboard in hopes it will reset it but nothing.
Is there anything I can do from USB do you think? Such as flash a new bios.

You guys mention that it's running a BIOS, but i think perhaps the mini pc 2 is running non-BIOS/EFI, because there's no preboot screen, and USB drives don't boot up at all.

I have a Cenovo Mini PC 2 with 2GB/32GB. BIOS/EFI/set-up is accessed via pressing F2 after boot. Sometimes it will accept the F2 request, sometimes not. Not sure if this is an issue related to the keypress timing after boot being critical, or the unit being generally fussy (maybe selection of which of the 4 + 1 USB sockets for keyboard is critical?). Only wandered around the BIOS settings a few times but there was all manner of Android-specific options available.
Strangely, when the F2 key is accepted, a message is flashed briefly on the screen saying "Esc key pressed" or similar, as if the "Esc" key was the BIOS access key.
The NexBox T11 InsydeH20 UEFI / BIOS / set-up options are near identical to the Cenovo Mini PC 2. There is a video walkthough of the Netbox T11 Setup Utility although it does not mention the very first screen and options seen when F2 is pressed. The Cenovo Mini PC 2 very first screen titled "First Page" can be viewed at

Hi ! Did anyone got a chance at installing another os ?... I have a Cenovo mini pc 2... I would probably try my luck to install openelec or kodibuntu on it but I couldn't manage to boot on bios. Did anyone tried using the Advanced startup option of windows 10 ?

I initially had issues attempting USB boot of Macrium Reflect with my Cenovo Mini PC 2. Eventually solved by one or more amendments of changing brand of USB stick, using Rufus to generate the bootable USB stick via formatting to FAT32 with 4096 bytes cluster size, and disabling fast UEFI in settings. USB stick was inserted into the Mini PC 2 and UEFI / BIOS was accessed by pressing F2 immediately after boot. From the first setting screen, "Boot Manager" was selected and the USB device was visible and able to be highlighted to boot from.

if anyone has the drivers for this device please share them i would be grateful and if needed i can make a guide on how to turn this little device in to a full windows computer its locked on windows 8 in the bios and most settings in the bios is locked to but i have obtained bios editor tools for this american trends i will give it a try later once i have full gpu control the rest i do not care as it will be used with bluetooth but intel hd drivers or the device if would be appreciated
Kind Regards

Pipo X9S (Intel Z8300, 64G eMMC, 4GB Ram) Unbrick

Hello everyone
my Pipo suddenly decided not to boot anymore, so I went its BIOS and mistakenly disabled USB OTG feature.
Now it refuses even to let me browse within the BIOS to restore it (can enter BIOS but keyboard's not working), sadly unplugging CMOS battery for hours did not help so it must be in NVRAM or something like that.
Tablet has Intel dnx feature (enabled pressing both volume buttons) but not micro USB connector (only 4 USB type a, one of them is blue)
Tablet also has sdcard slot.
There's any known solution to reset BIOS ?
Sadly tools like CH341A and flashing its winbond 25 chip are beyond my skills
many many thanks

Bricked Allview Wi901N windows 10 tablet

Hello,
i have a big problem with an Allview windows 10 tablet, during windows 10 reset i got a blue screen and my tablet got stuck into a boot loop restarting after windows logo appears. It didnt boot from windows usb stick that i made with rufus in multiple ways with different settings and when i was trying to get it boot from usb i accidentally disabled XHCI or EHCI from bios ,the attached keyboard does not respond, otg cable connected keyboard does not respond, touch not working.
Any solution will be greatly appreciated,
Thank you.
The only option I can suggest is to open it up, desodder the battery (as it's soldered to the motherboard). Wait for a couple of minutes (maybe even hours) and then solder the battery back in and see if the BIOS has been reset.
This may work similarly to taking out the CMOS battery and putting it back in.
I can provide you with this info as I've just stumbled upon your post having the same issue as you. I haven't yet tried this method as I don't have the tools required to desolder the battery right now but I'll post an update as soon as I can to let you know if it worked.
There's also a debug header available on the board but no resources online on how to use it.
